[ADAMS, GEORGE B.] Born November 26, 1883, in Barnard, Mr. Adams was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Adams. On April 12, 1927, he was married to his wife who survives him. A member of the Christian church, Mr. Adams was occupied as a grocery clerk for eight years prior to November 1939. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Rachel Adams of Barnard. Other survivors are two daughters, Miss Patty Adams of Barnard and Mrs. Margaret Groneweg of St. Joseph; a son, Kenneth Adams of Evansville, Minn.; and two stepchildren, Clarence and Irene Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Christian church in Barnard. Burial will be at the Barnard cemetery.

[BLACKNEY, LULA MARY SHELTON] Born Dec. 19, 1894, at Hopkins, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Ida Gray Shelton. On Nov. 8, 1922, she was married at Hopkins to Burt Blackney, who died Jan. 17, 1962. She was a member of the Christian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Stewart, Bedford, Iowa; and Mrs. Mary Buhler, Altadena, Calif.; three sons, Edward and Lewis Blackney, Hop-kins; and Donald Blackney, Omaha, Neb.; one brother, Harley Blanchard, Skid-more; three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Bush, Maryville; Mrs. Iva Masher, Coin, Iowa, and Mrs. Maude Glines, Clarinda, Iowa; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Blanchard. Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Price Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fred Paxton officiating. Burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery.
[BORDNER, DONALD HOMER] He was born September 29, 1918, the son of Mrs. Mattie Bordner of Clarinda. He formerly lived in Hopkins and graduated from Hopkins high school. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Donna K. of Kempner, Tex., his mother and two sisters, Mrs. Geneva Johnson, Clarinda, Ia., and Mrs. Eleanor Crawford, Avoca, Ia. Funeral and burial services will be held in Lampasas, Tex.
[BUTLER, BERTUS G. HAMM] Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Price funeral chapel and burial will be in the Hopkins cemetery. Rev. V. C. Clark will be in charge. Mrs. Butler was born June 14, 1874, at Hopkins, the daughter of Mason A. [lan] and Sarah Hamm. Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Paul Yeaman of Junction City, Kas.; and one son, George W. Butler, of Inglewood, Calif. A nephew, K. M. Strawn and a niece, Miss Mercedes Strawn, both of St. Joseph, also survive.
[CHANEY, WILLIAM HENRY] [CLUTTER DORIS] Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Wray Memorial United Methodist Church, Hopkins. The Rev. Gerald Sappington will officiate and burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery. She is survived by an aunt, Mrs. Troy Baker, St. Joseph. The body is at the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins.
[COBB, EMMA BLAGRAVE WINBOLT] Funeral services will be held t 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Hopkins, conducted by the Rev. J. Howard Thompson. Burial will be in the Hopkins cemetery. Mrs. Cobb was born Nov. 11, 1852, in Cleveland, Ohio. She spent her childhood days in Chicago, Ill. She was married to George O. Cobb, December 18, 1867 at West Brooklyn, Ill. In 1870, Mr. and Mrs. Cobb took a homestead at Abilene, Kan., where they remained for ten years, coming to Nodaway County in 1880. They at first lived on a farm west of Hopkins, moving into Hopkins about twenty years ago. Mrs. Cobb was a charter member of the Women's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist church at Hopkins, a member of Chapter K. P. E. O. of which she was chaplain for fourteen years and an active member of the W. C. T. U., being president of the Hopkins organization for manly years. Mrs. Cobb is survived by one son, H. [enry] B. [ruce] Cobb, Los Angeles, Calif., and ten grandchildren, including Miss Ruth Hopple of Hopkins, who had made her home with her grandmother practically all of her life. A daughter, Mrs. B. M. Hopple, died August 7, 1898. Mr. Cobb, Civil War veteran and state representative during 1887 and 1888, died March 14, 1908. Mrs. E. F. McFarland, Omaha, Neb., a cousin of Miss Ruth Hopple, came to attend the funeral services.
[DITTO, SETH EVERETT] He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nellie Ditto; two daughters, Mrs. Paul Smith, Maryville, and Mrs. Earl Ephland, Denver, Colo.; two sons, Everett Ditto, St. Joseph; Roy G. Ditto, Cleveland, Ohio; four brothers, Art Ditto, Maryville; John, Des Moines; Edward, St. Joseph; and Robert, Joplin; and three sisters, Mrs. Frank Jackson, Glendale, Calif.; Mrs. Bert Bratcher, Kansas City; and Mrs. Charles Wonders, Maryville. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
[DONLIN, ALTA COCHRANE] Funeral arrangements have not been completed but will be held at the Masonic Temple and burial will be in Hopkins. The only surviving relatives are three cousins, Frank, Fay and Everett Whitney, all of Hopkins.
[FILSON, GRACE BELL ROBBINS] She was the daughter of Hezekiah Robbins and Evelena Norton Robbins. Survivors are two sons, Edwin Filson, Hopkins, and Robert Filson, El Segundo Calif.; a brother, Arthur Robbins, Kansas City, and a half sister, Mrs. Opal Crawford, Chewelah, Wash. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. The Rev. Fred Paxton will officiate. Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery. The body is at the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins.
[FILSON, ROBERT CLYDE] Born Sept. 7, 1889 in Hopkins, Mr. Filson had lived his entire life in the community. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the A. F. and A. M. Xenia lodge No. 50. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Edwin Filson of the home and Robert G. Filson, El Segundo, Calif.; four grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. William DeMott, Hopkins; Mrs. L. L. Sturgeon, Wewoka, Okla.; Mrs. Blanche Busby, Watonga, Okla.; and Mrs. Roy McGuire, Hopkins; and one brother, Orville Filson, Wewoka, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Christian church in Hopkins, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. A. V. Hart, assisted by the Rev. Norman Lewis, pastor of the Baptist church. Burial will be held at the Hopkins cemetery with masonic funeral ceremonies. The Swanson funeral directors will have charge of the burial.
[GILES, AVERIL ELLEN WEBB] She was the daughter of the late Joseph Webb and Fannie Prater [Prather] and was born Sept. 13, 1890, in Harrison County. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Her husband, Grover Giles, died in November 1958. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Hubert Pool, Hopkins; Mrs. Ed Desch, Clarinda, Ia.; and Mrs. Carl Carmichael, Irwin, Ia.; two sons, Russell Giles, Council Bluffs, Ia. and Joseph Giles, Mt. Moriah, Ia.; 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Rites will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins. The Rev. James Gray, Kansas City, Kas., will officiate and burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery.
[GILES, GROVER CLEVELAND] Mr. Giles was born Aug. 30, 1885, in Gentry County. He was married to April Webb, who survives. He was the son of the late William Giles and Belinda Cooper Giles. Mr. Giles was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors are his widow of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Hubert Pool, Hopkins; Mrs. Carl Carmichael, Maryville; and Mrs. Ed Desch, Clarinda, Ia.; two sons, Russell Giles, Hopkins and Joseph Giles, Mt. Moriah; three brothers, Cam, Boyce and Cooper Giles, all of Langdon, N. D.; two sisters; Miss Mabel Giles and Mrs. W. H. Kitchin, both of Langdon, N. D., and 17 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins. The services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday.
[GOODSON, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN] He was a son of the late Dr. and Mrs. B. F. Goodson of Hopkins. He left Hopkins when he was a young man.
[GRAY, LINNIE LODEMA MCKEE] She was born Nov. 6, 1886, at Pickering and was the daughter of the late William Reed and Mary Jones McKee. She was married Dec. 10, 1913, at Pickering, to William Ward Gray, who preceded her in death. She had lived the past five years in Maryville, but had been a lifelong resident of the Pickering community. She was a member of the Pickering Christian Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at the Atchison Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville. The Rev. L. B. Day will officiate and burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Vilas Surplus, Maryville; three sisters, Mrs. John Meyer and Mrs. John Loch, Pickering, and Mrs. Pebble Swaney, Maryville; four brothers, Claude, Leland and Raymond McKee, Pickering, and Fay McKee, Maryville; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The family will meet friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p. m. today at the Atchison Chapel.
[GRAY, LINNIE LODEMA MCKEE] The Rev. L. B. Day officiated and burial was in the Hopkins Cemetery. Mrs Garvin Williams played organ selections. Pallbearers were Forrest Lett, Leland Nicholas, Loren Hackett, Virgil Hyde, Clarence Mathers and Paul Carmichael.
[GRAY, WILLIAM WARD] Born August 15, 1870, on a farm five miles southwest of Hopkins, Mr. Gray had lived all his life in the vicinities of Pickering and Hopkins with the exception of three years spent in Colorado. Pickering has been his home for the last eleven years. He was married Dec. 10, 1914, to Miss Jennie McKee at Pickering. She survives with one daughter, Ruby, at home. Other survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Jennie Chambers, Loveland, Colo., Mrs. Ella Ulmer of Hopkins and Mrs. Elsie Cockayne, Ravenwood. Mr. Gray was engaged in farming until his removal to Pickering.
[HECTOR, EFFIE MAY CREECH] The message stated that the body is being brought to Hopkins for burial, probably Saturday. Although Mrs. Hector never resided in Hopkins, she had visited her mother there at various times and was known to many people. She is survived by her mother; her husband, Lon Hector, of Phoenix, Ariz., two sisters, Mrs. Roy Gunn, of Arlington, Tex., and Miss Lucinia Creech of Hopkins, and by three brothers, Joe Creech of Phoenix, Ariz.; Walter Creech of Easton, Kan.; and Ben Creech of Arcadia, Calif. The body is being accompanied to Hopkins by her brother, Ben Creech.

[HEWETT, TABITHA STICE] [HEWETT, TABITHA STICE] The funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Griffith of the Baptist church. Burial in Hopkins cemetery. Mrs. Hewitt was born in Montgomery county, Ill., December 31, 1822, and lived in that county until her marriage to H. [anson] H. [arvey] Hewitt of the same county. They came to Hopkins in 1880 and she has lived there continuously since. Mr. Hewitt died in 1904 and since that time Mrs. Hewitt has been tenderly cared for by her sons. One daughter and four sons survive.
[HUBBARD, CORA DONLIN] Mrs. Hubbard was 77 years of age. She was born near Creston, Ia., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Donlin. She was a rural teacher in the Hopkins community for several years. She was married at Hopkins and with her husband went to Colorado Springs, Colo., where they lived for awhile before going to California. Her husband died more than a year ago. She is survived by three children all of Los Angeles, and her sister, Mrs. Sargent.
[JACKSON, JESSIE MCGILHRIST] Mrs. Jackson was born in Glasgow, Scotland, but had been a resident of the Hopkins community for forty years. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Art Yeager [Yager] of Hopkins and eight sons. They are Wallis Jackson, Hopkins; Edward and Charles Jackson, Sioux City; Grover Jackson, Bedford; Albert Jackson, Coffey[ville], Mo.; Jesse Jackson, Davenport, Wash.; Sam Jackson, Post Falls, Idaho; and James Jackson, Sheridan, Wyo.
[JACKSON, JESSIE MCGILCHRIST] Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Wallis Jackson home. Rev. Ray A. Dick, pastor of the Hopkins Baptist church will conduct the services, assisted by Rev. B. H. Harmon, pastor of the Christian church. [JEFFERS, ISABELLA ALLEN MILLER] The body of Mrs. Jeffers accompanied by Mr. Jeffers and daughter, Mrs. N. H. Brown, arrived at Hopkins last night.
[JEFFERS, MAGGIE BELLE JEFFERS] At the age of six years, Mrs Jeffers moved with her parents to the home place, located four miles south of Siam, Ia. It was on this farm that the major part of her life was spent. When a young girl she joined the Good Hope Methodist Church near Hopkins, Mo. She attended country school in Taylor County, Ia and her later schooling was obtained at Hopkins, Mo. She was united in marriage to James Edward Jeffers on Nov 27, 1890. To this union were born nine children, which included triplet sons, one of whom, Roy, died at the age of eight months. Soon after marriage she and her husband moved to his home in Potosi, Wisc. After two years they returned to Hopkins, Mo. and later established their home on the Jeffers farm. Mr. Jeffers preceded her in death July 18, 1943. Since then, she had made her home with her sons, Boyd and Ray. Mrs Jeffers with her ready wit and warm heart, was known as "Mother" not just to her own large family but to many friends, neighbors and relatives. To know her was to love her. Mourning their loss are her six sons, Coy of Hopkins, Mo., Loy, Boyd and Ray at home in Clarinda, Ia., Floyd of Shambaugh, Ia., Rol of Clarinda, and two daughters, Mrs. Katie McGinnis of Cheyenne, Wyo, and Mrs. Clara Miller of Clarinda; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held Dec 14 at the Walker Funeral Home in Clarinda and burial at Hopkins with the Rev D. C Davis officiating Clergy. The grandsons and grandsons-in-law were bearers.
[JEFFERS, RAY] #657 He was born March 13, 1902, at Hopkins, Mo, the son of James Edward and Maggie Belle Jeffers. He had lived in the Hopkins and Siam area before moving to Clarinda. For several years he cared for his mother before her death. Survivors include a sister, Clara Miller of Clarinda, and two brothers, Coy Jeffers of Hopkins and Boyd Jeffers of Clarinda. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home with Rev. Lewis Hunter officiating. Burial was in the Hopkins cemetery. John Davison was soloist and Grace Perry organist. Casket bearers were Arnold Davison, Orville Manley, Joe Updike, Larry Cimock, Harold McClarnon and Darwin Buch.

[JEFFERS, WILLIAM MARTIN] Mr. Jeffers, a retired farmer and garage man, had lived in Hopkins forty-five years, previously living near there. He was born at Muscatine, Ia. Mr. Jeffers was first married to Miss Isabel Miller, who died twenty years ago. Later he was married to Mrs. Bertha Bebout, who survives. Other survivors include two children, Mrs. Chloe Brown of Maryville and Glen Jeffers of San Francisco; three grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Belle Jeffers, New Market, Ia., and Mrs. Vada Snodgrass, Haven, Kas. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Hopkins conducted by the pastor, Rev. Paul Barton, assisted by Rev. R. C. Lockwood. Burial will be in Hopkins cemetery.
[KELLOGG, HARRY OTIS] He was born Feb. 22, 1883, in Nodaway County, and was the son of the late R. A. and Judy Ann Cousin [Cussins] Kellogg. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Braddyville Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Sunday at the Braddyville Methodist Church and burial will be in the Clearmont cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Kellogg of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Robert K. McClure, Braddyville, Ia; one brother, George Kellogg, Vancouver, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Hazel Holbrook, Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Kellogg, in 1945.
[KEITH, ANNA MARIA SPEIDEL] Mrs. Anna Keith, a resident of Nodaway County practically her entire life, died at 7 o'clock last night at her home in Hopkins. She would have been 80 years old in April Mrs. Keith was born in Ohio and was a small child when the family migrated to Missouri and settled in this county. She is survived by a daughter, Miss Mabel Keith, Des Moines, Ia.; a son, Roy Keith, who made his home with his mother; and a sister, Mrs. A. J. Gordon, Hopkins. Funeral arrangements will not be made until the daughter arrives this evening from Des Moines.
[KEITH, MABEL ZULA] Miss Keith, who was a member of Wray Memorial Methodist Church, Hopkins, was born May 29, 1883, to William Keith and Anna Marie Speidel Keith at Hopkins. She is survived by two cousins, Galen Gordon, La Mesa, Cal and Glenn Gordon, Hopkins. Services will be conducted at 2:30 p m Sunday at the Hopkins Methodist Church with the Rev. Gerald Sappington officiating. Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery. The body is at Swanson Funeral Home, Hopkins.
[LANGSTON, MIRA NANCY MCCHESNEY ESHELMAN] Mrs. Langston had not been well for several months and on April 16 she suffered a stroke of paralysis from which she had never recovered use of her left side. Mrs. Langston was born July 9, 1859, in Hancock county, Ill., the daughter of Harriet and James McChesney. She was married to John Eshelman February 2, 1882, who died July 10, 1899 [1898]. To them were born eight children, all of whom survive with the exception of one daughter, Mrs. Jessie Hayes, whose death occurred in 1907 [1908]. Mrs. Langston's second husband, Christopher Langston, to whom she was married in 1911, died in March 1923. Mrs. Langston united with the Maryville Christian church about 1905, later transferring her membership to the church of Hopkins. She leaves the following children: Mrs. Purd Ashford, Quitman; Homer Eshelman, Burlington Junction; Mrs, Harvey Howard, Hopkins; Mrs. King; Mrs. Lloyd Burch, Bedford; Roy Eshelman, Durango, Calif.; and Mrs. Galen Ulmer, Hopkins. A sister, Mrs. Lillie Cunningham of Los Angeles, thirty-five grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church in Hopkins by Rev. Sherman B. Moore of Maryville. Burial will be in the Hopkins cemetery.
[LINCOLN, SUSANA MAUDE SIMMONS] Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Pickering Christian Church of which she was a member. The Rev. Charles Hagee of Stanberry will conduct the services. The body will lie in state from 12 noon until time for the services at the church. Burial will be in the Hopkins cemetery. The Price funeral home has the body. She was born November 14, 1861 in Putnam County, Missouri, the daughter of the late Levi and Alice Harris Simmons. She was married to Henry M. [artin] Lincoln June 8, 1882. Mr. Lincoln died August 18, 1924. She is survived by five sons: Oa Lincoln, Villisca, Ia.; Ray Lincoln, Malvern, Ia.; Xa Lincoln, Maryville; Ross H. Lincoln, Tucson, Ariz. and the Rev. Orlo S. Lincoln, Pickering; one daughter, Mrs. Alva Lett, Pickering, 26 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
[LONG, WILBUR LEO] #648, #665, #657 Mr. Long is survived by his wife, the former Helen K. Ulmer, and one son, Wilbur Jr. of Elmo, and a daughter Mrs. Larry (Carolyn) Dew of Pickering. His sister is Zelpha Patterson of Skidmore. The Rev. Ray Forsyth, pastor of the Maitland United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be at the Ohio Cemetery at Burlington Junction. |
