Virginia Ruth Coder

Virginia Ruth Coder, daughter of Frank D and Lola B Coder, was born at Burlington Junction, Missouri,, March 22, 1923 and departed this life March 3, 1924, age 11 months and 9 days.

Besides father and mother she leaves to mourn her departure, one sister, Mabel, three brothers, Ray, Boyd and Robert, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C W Coder, Mr. and Mrs. L A Majors of Shambaugh and a host of relatives and friends.

Although of short duration little Virginia’s life was one not soon to be forgotten by those who knew her.  Her pleasant smile and sunny disposition reminded one of just a little bit of heaven.  A gentl hand, unforeseen by us has plucked our tender bud.  By this alone our grief is blest.  It was the hand of God.

The funeral was held at Burlington Junction Wednesday.

Dillard L Larabee

Dillard L Larabee, 77, St. Joseph, Missouri, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2005, at his home. Born on March 10, 1928, in Elmo, Mo., he lived in St. Joseph for most of his life.

In his early years, Mr. Larabee was a farmer and caretaker of his mother. Mr. Larabee was employed with Wire Rope Corporation of America for 24 years and also worked for Woodley Janitor Service for the last year. He attended Maxwell Heights Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Steel Workers Union No. 5783. Mr. Larabee was a very caring, giving and compassionate person, always putting everyone first.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Bertha Ellen (Macrander) Larabee; a son, Adrian Larabee; four brothers, Eldon, Harold, Orval and Vern Larabee; and two sisters, Violet Larabee and Edna Tadlock.

Survivors: a daughter, Erin Cindrich, and her husband, Jay, St. Joseph; a sister, Essie Brands, and her husband, Clarence, Kansas City, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Eula Larabee; three grandchildren, Lonnie Larabee, Avore Lee and Sidney Kiger; and several nieces and nephews.

Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, St. Joseph. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Friday. The family suggests memorial gifts to Maxwell Heights Presbyterian Church.

Pauline Frances (Wood) Dotts

Dotts, Pauline Frances (Wood), age 91, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2003, at her home in Tennessee. She was born January 17, 1912, on the family farm near Elmo, Missouri, to Frank and Francis Wood. Raised in Missouri, she moved to Guymon, OK during the dustbowl to work as a beautician. There she met her future husband, Virgil Hughes Dotts. They were married in Perry, OK in 1944 when Virgil return from the South Pacific. Pauline and her husband began their family in Oklahoma City and moved to New Mexico in 1957. After the death of her much-loved Virgil in 1970, Pauline stayed in Artesia, NM raising her youngest daughter Mary, working with the Artesia General Hospital Auxiliary and entertaining all her many friends with her stories and kindnesses. Pauline moved to Alcoa, Tennessee with her daughter Mary in 1994 and became a big fan of the VOLS and an expert on the weather. After discovering the cancer that she had fought in 1999/2000 had returned, she went on a road trip to see many friends and relatives in Georgia, Texas, New Mexico and Missouri. She regretted not having the time and energy to see other dear friends and family further away but enjoyed talking to them often by phone. She was preceded in death by her husband Virgil and oldest daughter, Carol Vee (Dotts) Collins and six brothers and sisters. daughters, Diane Dotts of Santa Fe, NM, Mary L. Dotts or Alcoa, TN, son-in-law David Collins and his wife, Susan Collins of Georgetown, SC, numerous nieces, nephews and their children and many long and beloved friends. She chose not to have a service but to have her ashes taken back to be buried next to Virgil in Artesia, NM. She will be remembered for her many crocheted gifts of afghans, hangers and hot pan lifters as well as her piano playing and many stories of the family history. Mrs. Vere Hall, 66, Died Tuesday; Services Friday

Mrs. Hazel Ruth Hall, 66 years of age, died Tuesday, May 22, 5 pm, at the Saint Francis Hospital, Maryville, where she had been a patient since the previous night.  She had suffers a long illness and had undergone surger for the amputation of her right leg on April 23.

Funeral services will be held Friday, 2 pm at the Wray Memorial Methodist Church.  The Rev Stephen Johnson will officiate and burial will be in the Hopkins Cemetery.  Swanson Funeral Home will be in charge of funeral arrangements.

She was born March 29, 1896, at Hopkins, the daughter of Paul Joseph Ulmer and Ella Mae Gray Ulmer.  She was married December 23, 1915 to Vere Albert Hall, who survives.

Mrs. Hall had lived nearly her entire life in the Hopkins Community.  She was a member of the Good Hope Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband of the home, Mrs. Hall is survived by five sons, Vernon Hall and Joe Hall, Maryville; Bill Hall,, Clearmont, Donald Hall, Joplin, Missouri and Ralph Hall, Boonville, Missouri; four daughters, Mrs. Eldon Sparks, Estherville, Iowa; Mrs. Kenneth Steenstry, Avondale, Missouri, Mrs. Junior Thompson, Dunnell, Minnesota, and Mrs. Dan Adamson, Dearborn, Missouri; 27 grandchildren, seve great grandchildren and two brothers, Lyle Ulmer, Hopkins and Leroy Ulmer, Maryville.

Pall Bearers will be Raymond Cross, Danny Gamel, Jack Ulmer, Maurice Riley, Virgil Shan and Earl Earl.

Herman Dean Williams
Herman Dean Williams, age 76, of Cross Timbers, Missouri, passed suddenly Friday, January 14, 2005 at his home. He was born on December 23, 1928, at Hopkins, Missouri, the son of Dean Riley and Nora Oxley Williams.
On February 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Billie Ruth Shockley at St. Joseph, Missouri. They made their home in St. Joseph while he attended classes in the ministry. He first served as a Lay Minister at Fair Play Methodist Church. He then served the Edwards Circuit in Edwards, Missouri serving the Methodist Churches of Edwards, Bethel, Wiseman and New Hope. In the early 1990's, they moved to Tustenoogee, Florida where he served the Tustenoogee Methodist Church. They later moved to Live Oak, Florida and he served the Rocky Sink Baptist Church.
On December 14, 2001, they moved to their retirement home in Cross Timbers, Missouri. First and foremost was his work in the ministry, and caring and providing for his family. He had served as a safety maintenance engineer assisting with safety inspections at many industrial plants throughout the United States. In 1961, he worked for Southwest Electric as an electrical lineman for 11 years. He loved horses and had trained Tennessee walking horses. He had entered them in several horse shows where he received many awards and trophies. He had been a member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association. He was a member of the Cross Timbers Methodist Church of Cross Timbers, Missouri.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Surviving is his wife, Billie Ruth Williams, of the home, four sons, Chuck Loar of Alachua, Florida, L.D. Williams of the home, S.D. Babcock of Preston, Mo., and Riley Williams of Crawfordville, Florida, two granddaughters, Tiffany Driskill of Chilhowee, Missouri and Nichole Christian of Preston, Missouri, two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Also surviving is one brother, George Williams, of Maryville, Missouri, four sisters, Frances Espey and Evelyn Birkenholz, both of Maryville, Mo., Helen Sample of McLouth, Kansas and Dorothy Mick of Hopkins, Mo., numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends throughout the country.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 18, 2005, at the Cross Timbers Methodist Church in Cross Timbers, Missouri with Rev. Don Rickman officiating. Cremation to follow services. Body will lie in state after 9:00 A.M., Monday at the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw. Memorials may be made to the Cross Timbers Methodist Church in care of the Reser Funeral Home, Warsaw.

Frances Katherine (Williams) Espey
Frances Katherine Espey 92, of Maryville, MO passed from this life on Monday, November 1, 2011 at the St Francis Hospital, Maryville.
Frances was born on January 25, 1919 in Hopkins, MO, to William Riley and Nora Naomi (Oxley) Williams, she had lived all of her life in northwest Missouri.
On September 4, 1938, Frances was united in marriage to Eugene M. Espey in Maryville, they spent 58 years together until his death on April 28, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Paul Williams, and Herman Williams; 2 sisters Evelyn Birkenholz, and Helen Sample.
Frances was a Hopkins High School graduate and had attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. She was a member and attended the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, and was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Seth Ray David VFW Post 442, Maryville.
She was the co-owner of the Farmers Elevator Company in Hopkins, and the Farmers Produce and Feed Company in Maryville. She had worked at the elevator for many years, even after they sold the business.
Left to mourn her passing is her daughter, Gail and husband, Randall Ingram, Maryville, MO. Three grandchildren, Travis and wife, Shannon Ingram, Maryville, MO, Tyler and wife, Courtney Ingram, Maryville, MO, and Mollie and husband, Hugh O’Donnell, Prairie Village, KS; brother, George Williams, Maryville, MO; sister, Dorothy Mick, Savannah, MO; six great granddaughters, Stephanie, Shanna, Presley, Jersey, Grace, Journey; and one great grandson, Jet Ingram; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, November 4, 2011 at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO, Pastor Scott Moon will be the officiant. The burial will be in the Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, MO.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Friday. Memorials are suggested to the St. Francis Hospital Pre-School Program, 2016 S. Main, Maryville, MO 64468.

Mary Etta (Linebaugh) White
Clearmont Woman Died Yesterday

Mrs. Harley White of Clearmont. age 70, died at a.m. yesterday at the Nebraska Methodist hospital in Omaha, where she had been a patient more than .seven weeks.
She had been ill for four months. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Methodist church in Clearmont and burial will be in the Clearmont cemetery. Born Sept. 24. 1871, at Clearmont, Mo., Mrs. White, the former Mary Etta Gray, was first married to James Alexander Huls, Sept. 10, 1890. at Clearmont. who died April 14, 1917 at Clearmont.

On Dec. 14, 1917 she was married to Mr. White, who survives. She had lived for 61 years at the home two and three-quarter miles northeast of Clearmont.

Besides her husband she is survived by a son Eldon Huls, Clearmont: four daughters Mrs. Tommy Virden, Cheyenne, Wyo.: Mrs. Albert Wallace, Clearmont, Mrs. Harry Holmes. Clarinda, la.; Mrs. Eva Livingston, Red Oak, la; 10 grandchildren;11 great-grandchildren; and a sister. Mrs. Julia Farrens, Clarinda, Iowa.

Loeva (Neff) Brown

Loeva Brown, 88 of Ephrata, Wa passed away on August 8, 2016 in her home surrounded by people who loved her. She was born on June 12, 1928 in Elmo, Missouri to Galen and Nora Neff.

Loeva was the eldest of six children: Richard Neff (deceased), Barbara McIntyre (deceased), Carolyn Hamm, Henry Neff (deceased), and Gladys Beckel (deceased).

In 1949, she married Clifford E. Brown moved to Ukiah, Oregon where Clifford worked for a lumber business. In 1961, Loeva and her husband, and their three kids moved to the Columbia Basin where she started work for the Bell Telephone Co, and worked there until her retirement in 1983.
Loeva and her husband bought a cabin in 1974 to enjoy with their kids and their families.

In 1988, they sold the cabin and bought twenty acres to build a cabin in the Leavenworth area with her kids and their families: Terry and Debbi Brown, Patty and Richard Stephens, and Sheri and Jack Durham. She loved to spend time with her three children, eleven grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren. She was loved by all and will be missed.

Joseph Holker, Farmer Of Near Hopkins, Dies

Joseph Henry Holker, 68 years of age, who resided four miles west of Hopkins, died at 6:35 o'clock this morning at the St. Francis hospital where he had been a patient two weeks. He had been ill about three months previous to that time.

Mr Holker, a well-known stockman, who had resided in Nodaway county all of his life, was born April 25, 1875 in Hopkins, the son of the late Henry and Matilda Holker.

He was married June 4. 1900, to Miss Margaret Ellen Coleman.

 Mr Holker was a member of the Catholic church.

Surviving are four sons, Henry Holker. Corning, la.; Elvin and Orville Holker, Kansas City, and Joseph Holker, jr., Hopkins; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Moran, Kansas City, and Miss Gertrude Holker, of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Behm and Miss Anna Holker, Hopkins; one brother, Edward Holker. Pickering; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, Elizabeth; two brothers, and two sisters. Funeral Arrangements have not been completed.
