Mattson, Georgia Arminta Kimmet -

Georgia Arminta Kimmet Mattson, 88, Maryville, Missouri passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Golden Living Center, Maryville.

Georgia Arminta Kimmet Mattson was born December 23, 1920 at the old St Francis Hospital, the daughter of Andrew C Kimmet Sr. and Mary Arminta Jackson Kimmet. She received her name, Georgia, from her Aunt, Sr. Georgia Kimmet OSF, a surgical nurse at St Francis Hospital and her father’s sister and Arminta from her mother. She grew up on a farm East of Maryville. Georgia had a sister Wilma and later they had a brother: Andrew Jr. She went to elementary school in a one room school house but graduated from College High School in Maryville.

After high school she worked at the Hospital and roomed with her cousin Mary Margaret (Jackson) Dorrel. She met Sammy at a dance at “Punk’in Center”. They married in 1941 and because Georgia never wanted to drive a car, Sam was always the driver/chauffer for the family. She worked as a receptionist for Dr Boyles and later at a dress shop in Maryville.

Georgia and Sam moved to Rock Port when Sam worked for Mahan’s Hardware Store.
They returned to Maryville in the mid 40’s

She lived with her parents, “Minti” and Andy Kimmet while Sam was in the Service. Sam’s niece, Betty Boner Baker lived with them also during this time. Later Andy Jr., his wife Jeannette and their daughter Judy moved into the household.

When Sam returned from the Service he worked at Sears Roebuck in Maryville. While here, they enjoyed dancing and often went with Lorita and Bill Wilson. Their families grew very close. Georgia was like a second Mother to the Wilson children.

Sam was transferred to Jefferson City to manage the Sears Roebuck Store there. While in Jefferson City Sam and Georgia adopted Carol Ann in 1952. They lived on Lee Street where they had neighborhood barbeques. Sam and Georgia did the barbequing and always enjoyed Sunday morning coffees with their neighbors in Gump and Rachel’s backyard.

Retuning to Maryville in 1960 Sam and Georgia began the Mattson Custom Made Drapery business out of their home. They later moved their business to a store on North Main Street. Betty Baker and Frances Dowden helped Georgia with the sewing and Sam did the installation work.

Because of her sewing skills, Georgia made the cheerleading skirts for her daughter Carol and nearly all the other Cheerleaders during Carol’s junior high and high school years. Sam and Georgia attended all the activities Carol participated in. Georgia also found time to make many of Carol’s cloths over the years. In addition, Georgia liked to bowl, golf, knit, crochet and do crossword puzzles. Sam was very active in the American Legion and Georgia assisted him, cooking at “Fish Fries”, running the baseball concession stand and helping with other activities.

Many weekends and evening were spent fishing with Jean and Norm Butrick or Betty and Ed Baker and their children at area ponds. They spent many holidays together too.

In the early 1970’s Georgia and Sam moved to Ashland, Missouri where they operated a small restaurant. They lived there till the late 70’s when they moved to rural Eldon, Missouri where Georgia worked in the jewelry department of the local Wal-Mart store. During this time many fishing outings were spent with their close friends Lee and Anna Mae Loy and A B and Evelyn Loy.

In 1975 Carol married Jerry Kiel. They lived in Lakewood, Colorado. Sam and Georgia made many trips to Colorado to visit, especially after their grandson, Josh and granddaughter, Courtney, were born. Georgia loved watching her grandchildren grow and hearing about their activities.

In the late 1980’s they retired and returned to rural Maryville. On July 21 1991 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Elk’s Club. Sam died December 25 1993 and Georgia moved into town in January 1994 where she spent the remainder of her life.

Musick, Marvin Lee - Graveside funeral services for Marvin Musick, age 78 of Lenox, formerly of Hopkins, Missouri, who died Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the Lenox Care Center were held Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lutson Cemetery north of Sheridan, Missouri. Visitation was held Wednesday morning from 9 until 10:30 at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford. Memorials can be given in his name. Memories can be shared with the family on our website at www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.

Marvin Lee Musick was born November 7, 1929, in Sheridan, Missouri the son of Archie E. Musick and Velva Musick. He grew up in the Sheridan area, graduating from high school with the Class of 1948. After graduation he farmed with his father in the Sheridan, Missouri and Bedford, Iowa areas. He was united in marriage to Joann Morehouse and the couple had two children, Chuck and Melody. The couple later divorced and the children moved to Arizona.

Marvin later began working for Northwest Missouri State University in the Maintenance Department, a position he held for many years. After his eyesight began failing, he moved to Bedford and later to Taylor Ridge Estates in Lenox. When his health began to fail he moved into the Lenox Care Center. At both facilities, Marvin was known as a ‘true gentleman’, always being very courteous to everyone he came in contact with. Since his eyesight diminished his view of the world, Marvin always knew who was coming into his room by the ‘sound of your footsteps’. Always a happy man, Marvin made sure the entire staff had candy each holiday season, although he never ate any. His favorite colors were orange and pink and he would enjoy listening to people read the stories from Doc Lucas’ books “Birth In A Chickenhouse”. As a younger man, he enjoyed being outdoors and the lifestyle of farming.

Marvin is survived by his two children, Chuck and Melody, both of Arizona; a half-brother, Larry Musick and wife Pat of Hopkins, Missouri; a sister, Jean Cordell and husband Eldon of St. Joseph, Missouri; several grandchildren and a community of friends from the Lenox area.

Preceding Marvin in death were his parents and step-mother; a sister, Edith Ware and a half-sister, Marjorie McNeese.
