Belcher, Dorothy Mae Hatcher - Dorothy Maye (Hatcher) Belcher passed from this life on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

Dorothy was born August 6, 1927 in Pickering, MO to Berton Allen Hatcher and Sadie Naomi (Bomar) Hatcher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her only brother, Ralph LeRoy Hatcher and husband William Ervin Belcher Jr.

She is survived by son Steve Belcher and wife Marianna, Joplin, MO and daughter Billye Sue McCrary and husband Ron, Maryville; 4 grandchildren, Andrea Seutter, Firestone CO, Jason Melnick, Kirksville, MO, TJ Belcher Joplin, MO and Holt McCrary and wife Jenna, Pickering, MO; 7 great grandchildren Sydney Seutter, Corben Seutter, Jaden Melnick, Tyne Melnick, Aubrey Melnick, Eric Belcher and Finley Belcher.

Dorothy was a very dedicated fan of NWMSU Bearcats football, and the Kansas City Royals. She bowled in various leagues most of her life with trophies to show. She loved sports and music.

Her greatest joy was family, with the grandchildren and great grandchildren at the top of her list in recent years.

Her children remember her generosity, love and kindness and having great times with her while growing up.

Visitation will be 5-7 PM Friday, November 10th at Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville.

Graveside Service is 11 AM Saturday, November 11th at Miriam Cemetery, Maryville.

Michael Eugene “Mike” Calfee, 67, of Elmo, MO, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, as a result of an accident near Elmo, MO.

Mike was born on September 22, 1950 in Elmo, to Everett Wendell “Pete” Calfee and Mary “Margaret” Mahoney Calfee, he had lived most all his life in Nodaway County.

Mike graduated from West Nodaway High School in 1969. He later attended heavy equipment school in Montana. For the past 26 years he was an equipment operator with Lincoln Township, MO. He had formerly worked many years at Exide, Forrest City, MO.

He proudly served his country in the US Army. He was a Combat Engineer in Vietnam, and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for injuries suffered there.

Mike was of the Catholic faith, and was a member and attended the St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Burlington Junction, MO. He was also a member and past commander of the Bradley-Carver American Legion Post 492, Elmo, MO. He had helped with many veteran celebrations at local cemeteries throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Teresa Calfee; his brother in law, Paul Leeper; and his sister in law, Allison “Poppy” Calfee.

Mike was a kind, caring, patient and gentle man, who loved his family very much.

Shirley J. Carter, 75, of Burlington Junction, MO, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at the SSM Health/St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, MO.

Shirley was born on May 5, 1942, in Lodi, CA.  Her parents ere L.B. and Louise (Barnes) Ratcliff.  They preceded her in death.  She was also preceded by her son, Jeff, in 2012, and her husband, Robert Leroy Carter, Sr.

She had lived in California before moving to West Plains, MO in 2001, and later moved to Burlington Junction, MO.  She had been a Psychiatric Tech for many years in California. She had completed 2 years at a Community College in California.

Her survivors include her 3 sons, Michael Todd Carter, Burlington Junction, MO, Robert Leroy Carter, Jr. Stockton, CA, and Charles Carter Burlington Junction, MO; her sister, Carol (Hank) Nieheus, West Plains, MO; grandchildren, Michael, Robert, Christopher, Alexis, Nicole, Bobbi Jean, and Angel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.  No services are planned at this time.

Carroll J. Coulter, 69, of Conception Junction, MO, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, November 25, 2017.

Carroll was born at the old St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, MO, on December 31, 1947.  His parents were Keeran Taft and Anna Maye (Schneider) Coulter, and they preceded him in death.  He was also preceded by his brothers, Dale, Tommy, Francis, and Rolland Coulter, and his sister, Elaine Wallace.

He had lived all his life in the area.  He attended Laura Street Baptist Church in Maryville.

Carroll enjoyed the outdoors.  He liked to garden, and to watch westerns on T.V. 

Carroll worked hard all his life, and had formerly been employed at the Maryville Milk Plant.  He was the plant manager at Maryville Metal Culverts from 1972 to 1993, and had worked at Kawasaki in Maryville.  He received his G.E.D. in Conception, MO.

In 1965, at the Bolckow Methodist Church, Carroll was united in marriage to Mary Alice Pitts.  She passed away in 2011.

His survivors include his 3 children, Scott Wayne (Terri Wiley) Coulter of Maryville, Dana Sue (Tom) Parker of Maryville, and Thomas Lane (Amy) Coulter of Hopkins and Kathryn Coulter of Maryville; 2 sisters, Sue Ann Pedersen of Guilford, MO, and Mary (Jerry) Murphy of Maryville; 5 grandchildren, Cody Scott Coulter of Overland Park, KS, Kaylee Bryann Coulter of Kansas City, MO, Garret Daniel Parker, Maryville, Breanna Leigh Coulter, Kenna Lynn Coulter of Hopkins and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Coulter, Tricia Gayle - Tricia Gayle Coulter, 43, of Stanberry, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at her home.

Tricia was born on December 17, 1973 in Maryville, Missouri to Jimmie L. and Marilyn Y. (Umbenhower) Coulter. Tricia was a graduate of Maryville High School and member of Laura Street Baptist Church. She worked for the Gentry County Postal Service.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Survivors include five children, Cayson Files, Callie Files, Bryson Files, Gage Stephenson and Chase Stephenson; her mother, Marilyn Coulter; four sisters, Shanda Furr, Linda Adwell, Darcie Rougeau, Melanie Coulter; one brother, Dustin Coulter and her grandmother, Yvonne Hilsabeck.

Derks, Joel, Fr - Fr. Joel Derks, OSB, 80 of Conception, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. Stephen's Infirmary at Conception Abbey.

Fr. Joel was born on July 23, 1937 to Lawrence and Gertrude (Walter) Derks.

He was a graduate of Conception Seminary College and Professed as a Roman Catholic Monk since September 12, 1958 and Ordained as a Catholic Priest, September 21, 1963. He served as a Parish Priest, Chaplain and Almoner.

Fr. Joel was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Bea Brillheart and Dolly Ciemiega, four brothers, Martin, John, Cletus and Wilfred "Ted" Derks.

Dolan, Jean Frances, Sister - Sr. Jean Frances Dolan, OSB, 80, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017 at Our Lady of Rickenbach, Benedictine Convent of Perpetual Adoration, Clyde, Missouri.

Jean Frances Dolan was born on June 20, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Raymond and Mildred Frances. She was a graduate of Trinity High School, River Forest, Illinois.

She joined the Benedictine Convent of Perpetual Adoration on July 16, 1955 and was given the name of Sister Jean Frances Dolan on June 24. She made her first profession of vows March 13, 1958 and her final Profession on March 21, 1963.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Peggy Margaret Franklin, brother, Raymond Dolan, Jr.

Survivors include her Monastic family; sister, Mary Pat Handrigan and many nieces and nephews.

Doran, Patricia Louise Schuster - Patricia Louise Doran, 91, of Kansas City, Missouri formerly of Maryville, Missouri passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017 at her home.

Patricia was born on January 20, 1926 in Humboldt, Iowa to Louis and Madeline (Fuehlen) Schuster. She graduated from Corpus Christi Academy in Ft. Dodge, Iowa and American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa.

She was a homemaker and member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church and the Bloom?eld Club.

Patricia married Eugene R. Doran on February 26, 1949 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

Survivors include her children; a son, Mark Doran (Gretchen), Punta Gorda, Florida; a daughter, Nancy Doran Cobb (George), Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren Ryan Doran (Danielle) North Ridgeville, Ohio; Jeremy Doran (Lauren) Granville, Ohio; Robert Doran (Kristyn) Chesapeake, Virginia; and Cambrin Cobb of Kansas City, Missouri. John Kenneth Dragoo, 66, of Burlington Junction, MO, passed from this life on Sunday, November 19, 2017, in Maryville, MO.

John was born in Burlington Junction, MO, on March 8, 1951 and was a lifelong resident of the area.  His parents were Byron Eugene and Mary Jane (Dewyre) Dragoo. 

John graduated from West Nodaway High School in 1969.   He joined the US Army and served in Vietnam.  John was a machinist all his life.  He had worked for Energizer, Laclede Chain, and Uniroyal, all of Maryville.

He was of the Christian faith.  He was a member and past Commander of the Rolla Dicks American Legion Post 315, Burlington Junction.  He enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, playing cards and visiting his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, James Eugene Dragoo.

His survivors include his 2 daughters, Valerie (Brett) Maddox, Humble, TX, and Jolene Burton, Spring, TX; his sister, Betty Dragoo, Burlington Junction, MO; 5 grandchildren, Maddi, Zane, Carli, Libby, and Emma; 2 nephews, Byron (Michelle) Dragoo, Savannah, MO, Luke (Melissa) Dragoo, Roanoke, VA; and great nieces and nephew, Skylynn, Jaiden, Alayna, Taylor, and J.T.

Thomas Joseph “Tom” Drobny, 67, of Hopkins, MO, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Monday, December 18, 2017, in Hopkins.

Tom was born in Plainview, NE, on May 5, 1950. His parents were Willard Thomas and Antionette Marie “Toni” (Maule) Drobny, and preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his brother, Frank Drobny.

He graduated high school in Chamberlain SD, had lived in a variety of locations over the years before settling in Hopkins. He was a mechanic all his life, worked for B & B Construction of Colorado, and as a chain manufacturer of Laclede Chain Manufacturing of Maryville for almost 14 years.

Tom attended the Wray Memorial United Methodist Church, Hopkins, MO. Tom was an avid outdoorsman and some of his favorite hobbies included snowmobiling, dirt biking, boating and camping. In more recent years target practicing and collecting guns was one of his favorite pastimes with his family.  

On June 12, 1971, Thomas was united in marriage to Sylvia Elizabeth Lincoln in Glenwood, IA. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his 2 daughters, Frankie (Bryan) Titus, Hopkins, MO, and Kaitlin (Steve) Howdle, Sioux Falls, SD; 2 sisters, Jane (Jim) Mattern, Crofton, NE, Judy (Richard) Taylor, of SD; brother, Larry Drobny, and wife, of SD; 2 grandchildren, Maulie and Mackenzie Titus; his maternal aunt, Eva Maule; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Velma Scharlene Drydale, 96, of Savannah, MO, passed away on Saturday January 20, 2018.

Velma was born on January 8, 1922, near Graham, MO, to Otis and Della (Keller) Brown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Virgil J. Drydale who passed on May 25, 2000, brother, Lavon Brown; sister, Bonnie Brown; nephew, Lavon Brown Jr.; and daughter in law, Charlene (Johnson) Drydale.

Velma was a 1940 graduate of Graham High School. For most all her life she was a member and attended the Bethany Christian Church, Barnard, MO, and later started attending the First Christian Church in Savannah, MO. In her spare time, she loved to quilt, embroider, and crochet. Velma was a housewife and helped Virgil on the farm.

Survivors: two sons, Jerry (Anna) Drydale, Leon Drydale and friend Dixie Hughes; four grandchildren, Mark Drydale, Lynatte (Rodney) Boston, Kimberly (Eric) Billings, and Gregory Drydale; eight great grandchildren, Tylan and Keian Drydale, Kaylee and Dane Boston, Sidney, Kaci, Tate, and Sienna Billings; two nieces, Velinda Brown and Michelle Brown.

Funeral services for Velma Drydale will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home in Maryville. Burial to follow at the Nodaway Memorial Gardens of Maryville.

Duff, Robert "Bobby" - Robert "Bobby" C. Duff passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 at Shady Lawn Nursing & Rehab at Savannah, MO.

He was born March 16, 1948 to Robert Dean and Helen Mae (Wright) Duff in Maryville, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy B. Bryce.

Bobby graduated from State School #26 Maryville, MO in May1968. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Maryville and participated in Special Olympics for many years. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 180 and retired from NOCOMO Industries after 40 years.

Survivors include sisters, Mary F. (Leon) Brinson, Savannah, Carole A (Fred) Rohlfs, Jackson, MS and brother, George R. (Sara) Duff, Maryville, plus Mary L. Noel-Owens, St. Joseph, MO considered as a sister. He enjoyed his many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Bobby's Life will be 2:00pm Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville, at a later date.

Winifred Christine Dunshee, 95, of Maryville, MO, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 15, 2017, with her family at her side.

Winifred was born in Marshall, MO, on December 7, 1921.  Her parents were Frank and Clara Mary (Sellmeyer) Crass, and preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert E. Dunshee, MD, in 2016, and her sister, Helen Ann Brooks, in 2008.

Winifred had worked as a model for Monsanto Co., and was once featured on the St. Louis Cardinal score card.  She was well known for her baking ability, especially cookies, and being an amazing hostess.

On September 7, 1946, Winifred was united in marriage to Dr. Robert E. Dunshee, MD, and they were married for almost 70 years before his death.  She was a homemaker and had helped at her husband’s medical office.

Left to mourn her passing is her daughter, Debbie Dunshee-Garrison, St. Joseph, MO, her granddaughter, Beth Garrison, and her husband Jamieray Hutchins, St. Joseph, MO, and her nephew, John Brooks. 

Mrs. Dunshee has been cremated and her memorial services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.  The inurnment will be private at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville.

Gerald O. Everett, 87, of Barnard, MO, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville.

Gerald was born on May 11, 1930, near Mound City, MO.  He had lived most all his life in the area.  His parents were Gilbert and Bertha (Edwards) Everett, and preceded him in death.  He was also preceded by his brother in law, Howard Ware.

He proudly served his county from 1953-55, in the US Army.

He attended and was an Elder at the Bethany Christian Church, Barnard, MO.  His memberships included the Graham Lions Club, and he was a board member of the Graham Housing Association. 

Gerald was a self-employed farmer his entire life.  He loved to fish, to snowmobile out West.  He loved to garden, and loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

On May 16, 1956, Gerald was united in marriage to Neva Lucille Ware, she survives of the home.

Other survivors include his son, Marlin (Rosalie) Everett, Barnard, MO; 2 grandchildren, Kristen (Bill) Russell, Maitland, MO, and Rick (Jennifer) Everett, Maitland, MO; 8 great grandchildren, Dasen, Tommy, Madison, Rachael, Dillon, Brenden, Addison, and Braxten; his sister in law, Vinita Ware, Savannah, MO; 4 nieces and nephews, Brenda, Rodney, Lori Sue and Steve.

Flanagan, Jean Lois Carter - Jean Carter Flanagan, Maryville, Missouri, formerly of Clearmont, Missouri, entered into the eternal arms of Jesus at Oak Pointe Assisted Living on January 19th, 2018 at the age of 95 years & nine months.
Jean was born on April 3, 1922 in Skidmore, Missouri to Ralph and Marjorie (Graves) Carter. Jean was a 1939 graduate of Daleview High School located near Fairfax, Missouri and until she married Ernest MacDonald (Mack) Flanagan on July 27, 1940 in Tarkio, Missouri, she lived in the Fairfax and Skidmore area. Mack and Jean’s marriage was officiated in the home of Reverend O.T. Grummett, where scents of homemade bread baking were abiding in the air and with only he, his wife and the two of them present and as Grandma would say, “That’s how they did things back then.” Two children were born to this loving union; Sharon Kay in 1947 and Randy Mack in 1950. While Mack served in World War II, Jean worked on the Army posts of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Fort Campbell, Kentucky as a bookkeeper and Chief Clerk which held many fond memories to her even up until her last days. Upon being discharged from the war, she and Mack moved to Clearmont, where they began farming and together they ran and operated their farm on Highway JJ for thirty-one years until Mack’s death in February of 1977. Jean then relocated to Maryville.
At the age of eight years old Jean made the lifelong decision to make Jesus, Lord and Savior of her life and was baptized in her Uncle Ernest’s cattle tank at the Walkup’s Grove Baptist Church near Fairfax, Missouri. She recently shared how that, unless it had rained and the roads were muddy, preventing the horses from making the two-mile trek, going to church on Sunday was a must. Once settling on their farm outside of Clearmont, Mack and Jean became faithful members and attenders of the Clearmont Baptist Church. Upon moving to Maryville, Jean became a member of the First Baptist Church.
Homemaking was a passion of Jean’s throughout her years of marriage. Canning bountiful garden harvest, baking up heart-warming cobblers and making certain that dessert of some kind was served at every meal. She was a member of Business and Professionals Women’s Club, Soroptomist Club, St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary and Eagle’s Auxiliary. In the 1960’s Jean served for two years on the Federal Grand Jury which was one of the greatest highlights of Jean’s life. Family was one of her greatest treasures and she cherished every moment that they spent together.
Grandma was a special presence and it was obvious by the ways that she loved others and the way others loved her in return. Due to her many years employed at Uniroyal, Farm Bureau, and Shelter Insurance, nearly everywhere she went, she saw someone she knew and she always had an encouraging word and a friendly smile to share. Grandma’s appreciation and enjoyment for playing cards (most especially Bridge, but Pitch as well) has connected her with many clubs and innumerable friendships; most especially her evening foursome at Oak Pointe, her every-other Friday afternoon Hopkins/Pickering girls group and her every Tuesday bunch at the Senior Center. In June of 2016, at the age of 94, Grandma began “slowing down”, hung up her car keys and made Oak Pointe her final home. It was an instant settling as she quickly reconnected with old friends and quickly became acquainted with new. Playing cards, cards, cards and Bingo, too, attending activities, sharing meals around the table together and mingling amongst her “neighbors”. The staff loved Grandma well, cared for her perfectly, embraced her warmly and were not only her family but have become our family as well. As a family we find ourselves so ever thankful for their impeccable & sacrificial attention in making her each and every day “hunky dory” even when in her last days she found her physical health declining. Their dignity, intentionality & professionalism go unmatched.

Gaukel, Patsy Crapson - Patsy B. Gaukel, 79, of Maryville, Missouri passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville.

Patsy was born on July 7, 1938 in Stark, Kansas to John H. and Sarah E. (Ford) Crapson. She was a graduate of Tarkio High School and was a homemaker. She had also owned and operated a ceramic Store while living in California.

She married Charles E. Gaukel on December 20, 1962 in Stockton, California. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2000. She was also preceded by her parents and daughter, Sarah Morrison.

Survivors include her children, Brenda Murphy, Maitland, Missouri, Mary Wildebour, Oelwein, Iowa and Charles Gaukel, II, Ammon, Idaho; ten grandchildren and two sisters, Esther Nuckolls, Ammon, Idaho and Joyce Henifin, Lodi, California.

Mrs. Gaukel has been cremated under the care of Price Funeral Home. There will be no visitation or services held. Inurnment San Joquin Valley National Cemetery, Santa Nella, California at a later date.

Galen Dale Graham, 61, of Burlington Junction, MO, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at a nursing home in Moberly, MO.

Galen was born in Council Bluffs, IA on March 16, 1956.  His parents were Wilbur “Tobe” and Juanita (Plymell) Graham.  His father preceded him in death, as well as his sister, Alice Faye Pierpoint, his brother, Russell Graham, and his grandparents.

Galen lived most all his life in the area and graduated from West Nodaway High School, Burlington Junction, MO.  His was a laborer and truck driver.

He is survived by his mother, Juanita  (Bob), his children, Jeremy L. Graham, Elmo, MO, and Nicole (Shawn) Lotter, Burlington Junction, MO; 6 grandchildren, Treston (Adanna), Elijah, Ian, Skyler, Jake, and Jordan; and his great grandson Tobey; and several nieces and nephews. 

Galen has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.  Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 22, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church, Burlington Junction, MO.  No formal visitation is planned.

Lucas Allen Greever, 28, of Burlington Junction, MO, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017, west of Burlington Junction, as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

Lucas was born on June 5, 1989, in Maryville, MO.  His parents are Lawrance “Allen” and Sandy Elaine (Whited) Greever.  He was preceded by his grandparents, Albert L. and Maggie Greever, and James (Mary Jane) Whited, and uncle and aunt, Robert (Charlott) Greever, and uncle, Jim Whited. 

He worked in construction erecting grain bins for Tomkinson Construction.  He was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed “living life”.

His survivors include his parents, Allen and Sandy Greever, Burlington Junction, MO, his 2 children, Hayle Jane Jolene Greever, Burlington Junction, and Blaize Landon Terry Greever, Falls City, NE, sister Tracy Kirchert, and brother, Tony Haffner; aunts and uncles, Corrine (Danny) George, Springfield, MO, Ginny (Kent) Thompson, Clarinda, IA, Debbie Schmidt, Council Bluffs, IA, Ruby Farlin, Joplin, MO, Larry Whited, Bedford, IA; and numerous cousins.

Hall, David Thomson - David T. Hall of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Prairie Elder Care in Overland Park, Kansas.

A native of Texas, Dave graduated from Garland High School in 1960 and attended the University of Texas at Austin prior to receiving a congressional appointment to the Naval Academy. He graduated with the Class of 1966 with Minors in Nuclear Science and Mathematics. He was a member of the 16th Company.

Following graduation, he entered Admiral Rickover’s Naval Nuclear Power Program, attended Submarine school, and was assigned to the USS Sam Rayburn (SSBN-635). He served on the Sam Rayburn for three patrols and a shipyard overhaul and refueling as an Engineering Division Officer.

He resigned from active duty in 1971 and attended graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin on an AEC Fellowship.

He graduated in 1972 with a Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering. In 1972 he began his engineering career with Westinghouse Nuclear Energy Systems in technical support for Nuclear Steam Supply Systems marketing. In 1973 he joined Houston Lighting and Power Company where he was responsible for construction permit licensing of the two unit South Texas Nuclear Project with Nuclear Energy Commission.

In November, 1974 he joined Black & Veatch Engineers, where he met Louella Collins and was married on May 10, 1975.

Dave spent 27 years with Black & Veatch working in various project management capacities for electric power plant design and development. He was involved in conceptual design, detailed design, planning, development and retrofit of various electric power generating facilities which included nuclear, fossil and solar technologies. He was a registered professional engineer in six states.

In 1989, he was selected a Vice-President of Black & Veatch Power Development Corporation (BVPDC), a new subsidiary formed to develop, design, construct and own non-utility generating plants. He spent over 10 years with BVPDC working on domestic and international development projects rising to Executive Vice-President before retirement. Additionally, he was elected a partner in Black & Veatch in 1992. Dave was also active in civic and community activities. He served on the Board of Directors for the Leawood South Homes Association, Siena Homes Association and Leawood Country Club, where he was President during his final year. He was a founding member of a new Toastmaster’s club.

Upon retirement from Black & Veatch, he continued pursuit of his life-long hobbies of golf, reading, fishing and home design.

He is survived by his wife, Louella of the home and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hays, Gerald - Gerald D. Hays, age 80 of Sedalia, MO passed away on January 7, 2018 at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. 

Gerald was born on January 23, 1937 in Watson, MO; the son of William Hampson and Stella Mae (Smith) Hays.  He grew up and attended school in Watson, graduating from Watson High School in 1955.  He then went on to school at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, MO. 

He served in the United States Air Force, entering service in 1958 and serving until his honorable discharge in 1965. 

On April 9, 1961, Jerry was united in marriage to Florence O. George in Raytown, MO.  He worked for the Ford Motor Company at the Claycomo Plant in Kansas City and then did construction/building at Lake of the Ozarks.  Jerry belonged to the Springfield, MO Shriners and Masonic Lodge #272.  He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sedalia, MO. 

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Florence Hays of Sedalia, MO; sister-in-law Frieda Ingram of Sedalia, MO; four nephews; other family and friends. 

Gerald was preceded in death by an infant daughter Kimbel June in 1962; his parents and sister and her husband: Linda and John Rash. 

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at High Creek Cemetery near Watson, MO.   Burial will follow the services

Marjorie Ann Carroll Henderson 73, of Maryville MO, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at Mosaic Life Care, St. Joseph, MO.

Marjorie was born in Maryville, MO, on November 6, 1943, to Truman and Geneva (Carpenter) Carr. They preceded her in death.  She was also preceded by an infant son; her husband L.D. “Buck” Carroll, and later her second husband Tom Henderson; her sister Roma Roming, and her brother, Cecil Wayne Carr.

She was a graduate of Maryville High School. She liked to coon hunt.  Marjorie lived in the Ravenwood and Maryville area her entire life.

She and her husband Buck, owned and operated an auction house in Ravenwood until his death. She and Buck were married for 36 years. She had been the mayor of Ravenwood, MO for 16 years.  Later she worked in the Bakery at the Conception Abbey, Conception, MO.

Left to cherish her memory are 7 brothers and sisters: Manford C. Carr, Ottawa, KS, Twila May Stone, Colony, TX, Henry T. Carr, Seymour, MO, Wilma (Runyan) Grant, Higginsville, MO, Barbara Cochran, Lincoln, MO, William C. (Bill) Carr, Howitt, TX, Richard W. (Rick) Carr, Maryville, MO, and many beloved foster sisters and brothers and numerous nieces, nephews, and so many children who she helped raise and called her own.

Holbrook, Lowell Dean - Lowell Dean Holbrook, 91, died Wed Nov 1, 2017 in Kansas City, MO.

Born Oct 26, 1926 in Clearmont, MO, to Jess and Madge Holbrook. He retired from Iowa Power and Light Company in Council Bluffs, IA. The only other job outside the military was for Coca Cola in Clarinda, IA.

Lowell graduated from Clearmont High School in 1945. He was then drafted into the Navy where he served in WWII. Lowell was all state in Missouri basketball for 4 straight years while in high school. He loved sports. Basketball, football and baseball were his favorites. He also like to read the newspaper from front to back every day.

Lowell was a union member of the IEBW for 56 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Maryville, MO, and he was a member of the American Legion.

Lowell was loved by all. People that he knew, would say he was a kind, nice, selfless, humble and generous person with a huge heart,

He married Betty Jean Hayden on Dec, 26 1946, in Atchison, KS. Betty preceded him in death June 8, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents Jess and Madge, and 3 brothers Leo, Kenneth and Merlin. He is survived his sister Louella Fuller; his son, Michael Holbrook, daughter-in-law Juanita, grandson Shaun, married to Becca Holbrook, grandson Travis Holbrook, and his significant other, Anne Curtis; her daughter Breyonna Curtis. His great grandchildren Tyson, TJ and Taylynn Holbrook; step grandson Richard Doyle, and step great granddaughter Madison Doyle.

Joslin, Ermel Loriene Throckmorton - Ermel Loriene Joslin, 85, of Maryville, Missouri passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Maryville Living Center.
She was born September 18, 1932 near Barnard, Missouri to Charles Eldon and Susie Pearl (Langley) Throckmorton.
Ermel Loriene married William Virgil Joslin on June 14, 1950 in Maryville, Missouri. Graduated from Barnard High School and worked for St. Francis Hospital as a nurse’s aide for 24 years. She was of the Christian faith.
Ermel Joslin was preceded in death by a daughter, Candia June Ebrecht in 1999, sister, Donna Black, brothers, Donald Throckmorton and infant brother, John Calvin Throckmorton and her husband William Virgil Joslin in 2006.
She is survived by her children, Virgil Dale, Erma Sue (David) Dredge and Russell Gale (Elizabeth) all of Maryville; 21 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Lee Kohlleppel, 55, of Parnell, MO, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 13, 2017.

Kenny was born on June 17, 1962 in Maryville, MO, to Benedict Herman and Dorothy (Strueby) Kohlleppel. His father preceded him in death.

Kenny grew up near Parnell and graduated from Ravenwood High School, Ravenwood, MO. He was of the Catholic faith.

He had worked for over 20 years at Laclede Manufacturing, Maryville. He also farmed and raised cattle in the Parnell area.

He liked to hunt, but mainly his work and farming was his passion.

His survivors include his 4 sons, Jeff (Kimberly) Kohlleppel, Maryville, Tyson Kohlleppel, Ravenwood, Cody Kohlleppel, Maryville, and Michael (Monica) Kohlleppel, Maryville; his mother Dorothy Kohlleppel, his 6 siblings, Ben (Mitzi) Kohlleppel, Burlingame, KS, Jeremy Kohlleppel, Ankeny, IA, Nick (Sarah) Kohlleppel, Parnell, MO, Vicki (Tom) Spire, Maryville, MO, Amy (Danny) Parnell, Arkansas, and Gail (Shane) Calfee, New Market, IA, 4 grandchildren, Caelyn, Colton, Gracie, and Kenzley Kohlleppel, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lager, Mark Benedict - Mark Benedict Lager, 57, of Maryville, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 17, 2017.

Mark was born May 15, 1960 in Maryville, Mo., the son of Herman and Lorine (Bliley) Lager.

Mark lived a full and extraordinary life. Mark had the ability to love unconditionally, forgive always, discover wonder in the ordinary, believe in the best in people and be an example of how we should approach life. He was an inspiration to everyone who had the good fortune to meet him; once Mark met you he did not forget you. He brought a special joy to everyone he met.

Mark was a member of St. Gregory’s Church. Mark graduated from State School #26. He then worked at NOCOMO for numerous years. He was active in the Nodaway County Special Olympics, a favorite sport was bowling. Mark lived for 25 years in the Edwards Group Home where he enjoyed many special activities and met many special people. He was blessed to spend his final days at the Group Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Lorine Lager; brother, Greg Lager; sister, Mary Gast; sisters-in-law Pat Lager and Jane Lager and nephew, Matthew Carroll.

He is survived by sisters - Carrie (Bernard) Eiberger, King City; Agnes (Dennis) Drain, Florida; Catherine (Kurby) Law, Maryville; Teresa (John) Nielson, Maryville; Rita (David) Carroll, Maitland and brothers - Joe (Susan) Lager, Belton; John Lager, Maryville; Cletus Lager, Conception Jct.; Gene (Patrice) Lager, Maryville; Bob (Terri) Lager, Maryville, and brother-in-law Robert Gast, Olathe, KS. Langley, Betty Jean Hart - Betty Jean Langley, 83, of Maryville, MO passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO.

Betty was born on March 17, 1934 in Quitman, MO to Pearl A. and Beulah O. (McAtee) Hart.

She worked at Uniroyal in Maryville until the plant closed. She married Norman W. Langley on January 21, 1953. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2004. She was also preceded by her parents and two sisters, Evelyn Seipel, Bonnie Messner and two brothers, Leon and Larry Hart.

Survivors include four children, Gary Langley, and Linda Auffert both of Maryville, MO, Bonnie Blood, Des Moines, IA and Becky Goodew, Aurora, CO; nine grandchildren, Tim Auffert, Tammy Arnold, Greg Dragoo, John Stanfield, James Duffy, Beth Duffy, Megan Duffy, Katie Goodew and Scott Young and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Doris C. Lewis, 88, of Graham, MO, passed from this life on Friday, January 19, 2018, at the Maryville Living Center.

Doris was born on January 8, 1930, in Graham, to Johnny and Maude (Taylor) Hart.  They preceded her in death.  She was also preceded by 2 brothers, Donald Paul Hart and James W. Hart.

She graduated from the Skidmore Missouri High School, and attended Baker University, Baldwin City, KS, for 2 years.

On September 14, 1951, in Maryville, MO, Doris was united in marriage to Curtis G. Lewis.  They lived briefly in San Diego, CA, while Curt was in the service.  She then moved to Skidmore, and in 1968, moved to Graham.

She liked to cook, garden, canning and freezing what she had raised, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.   Doris loved taking the grandkids out to eat.

Doris was a member and attended the Graham Union Church.  She was a member of the United Workers, and the Graham Progressive Club.

Her survivors include her husband Curt, of the home; 3 children, Teresa (Harold) Lyle, Maryville, MO, Jane (Randy) Floyd, Gilbert, AZ, and Rodney (Brenda) Lewis, Graham, MO; 1 brother, Dick (Mary Ellen) Hart, Marion, OH; 5 grandchildren, Lewis (Karissa) Lyle, Ashley Lyle, Tyler (Mikayla) Floyd, Curtis (Abi) Lewis, and Patrick Lewis; 4 great grandchildren, Trevor, Garrett, Dakotah, and Declan.

Loch, Betty Lou Butler - Betty Lou Loch, 96 of Maryville, Missouri was born May 23, 1921 in Maryville and died November 1, 2017, at Oak Pointe Assisted Living and Memory Care.

She was the daughter of William Lawrence and Maude Shrubshall Butler and was a 1939 graduate of Maryville High School.

On July 12, 1941 Betty and Robert E. Loch Sr. were married.

Betty was a member of the Maryville First Christian Church and Rosanna Chapter of the Eastern Star.

Betty enjoyed a long and satisfying life. She and Bob enjoyed traveling, spending New Year's Eve in Las Vegas, winters in Palm Desert, California, yearly fishing trips to Canada, and summers at Lake of the Ozarks, fishing and boating.

Betty loved to knit and created beautiful afgans for all family members and some friends. She made Christmas tree skirts and Christmas stockings for family members. She was a sports enthusiast. She played tennis in high school and followed tennis the rest of her life. She enjoyed the Spoofhounds, Bearcats and MU football and basketball teams. During the winter in California she became a fan of the LA Lakers. She played golf on Tuesdays at the Maryville Country Club as well as many tournaments with her partner Em Devore, in nearby towns.

A loving mother to her sons and daughters-in-law, Betty was the perfect grandmother to her four grandchildren and six great-grandsons.

Also surviving Betty are her two sons and daughters-in-law: Bob (Millie) Loch and Bill (Jessica) Loch, all of Maryville.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2007, her parents and two sisters Maxine Butler Garten and Esther Butler McMahon.

Mathes, Dale Eugene - Dale Eugene Mathes, 77 of Maryville, Missouri died on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at Maryville Living Center.

He was born March 17, 1940 in Shenandoah, Iowa and he married Glenna Yates in Red Oak, Iowa on December 30, 1961.

He was a 1958 graduate of Shenandoah High School and attended Iowa Western (Associates Degree) and NWMSU. He was employed by, and retired from, St. Joseph Light and Power in 2001 after 31 years of employment.

Dale served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of the James Edward Gray American Legion Post #100, Maryville.

His memberships include the Maryville Jaycees,
Elks Club, (Past Exalted Ruler Lodge #760, one term),
James Edward Gray American Legion Post #100,
a Volunteer Fireman, 15 Years with Maryville Public Safety (Captain for 6 years), Maryville City Council 12 years and Mayor of Maryville for 3 Terms.

Dale was preceded in death by his mother Treva Mathes.

Surviving are three children: Scott Mathes, Garden City, MO, Calvin (Angela) Mathes and Holly (Alan) Wilmes, both of Kearney, MO.,

McClure, Nina Mae Kelley Holt - Nina Mae Kelley Holt (McClure) was born October 7, 1926, in Elmo, Missouri, to Elmore H. Kelley and Georgia Alice Kinman and entered into rest on January 12, 2018 at the Ambassador in Sidney, Iowa. Nina was raised on the farm in the Braddyville, Clearmont, and Gravity areas along with her siblings, Lowell, Helen, and Carolyn. Nina attended school in Gravity.

On April 22, 1943, Nina married Horace Denzil Holt in Kansas City, Kansas. To this union was born five children, Larry, Steve, Jerry, Deb, and Greg. They lived in the Ravenwood, Missouri area on a farm. Following a tractor accident that killed Larry, the family briefly moved to Maryville, Missouri, and ultimately to Sidney, Iowa in 1960. Nina and her husband, Horace started Holt Gas Co. which is still operating today. Following Horace’s death, Nina remarried Robert McClure and for a short time lived in the Braddyville area and then returned to Sidney, Iowa as his health deteriorated. Nina kept the books for many years at Holt Gas and even went to the grocery store in the tank wagon a time or two to get the family’s groceries. Nina was always a determined individual who lived her life to the fullest as long as her health allowed. She loved traveling and going to the casino. As her health deteriorated, it was hard for her to realize that she was slowing down. Nina ate with her family every day at Holt Gas. She liked to bake cakes or brownies for her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, who enjoyed them, as well as being able to visit and see them. Nina decided to enter the Sidney Ambassador in March of 2014 as it got harder and harder for her to manage at home. She adjusted well and liked playing bingo as well as visiting with the other clients.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Horace and Robert, son, Larry Denzil, brother, Lowell, daughters-in-law, Charlene Faye Fox Holt and Joann Holt. Nina is survived by her children Steve (Lori) Holt and Jerry (Karen) Holt, both of Sidney, Iowa, Deborah (Dick) Payne, Maryville, Missouri and Greg (Tracy) Holt, Sidney, Iowa, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Helen Walker, of Ohio and Carolyn (Ed) Day, Skidmore, Missouri as well as many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, January 15, at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, preceded by a visitation from 1:00-2:00 PM.

Burial will follow the services at Miriam Cemetery, Maryville

McIntyre, Lawrence Winfred - Lawrence Winfred McIntyre, 89, of Burlington Junction, Missouri died on December 19, 2017, at Missouri Veteran's Home in Cameron, Missouri.

Born January 4, 1928, second son born to Milford Lawson and Mary Ellen Walter McIntyre. He married his High School Sweetheart Wilma Wright, November 25, 1951at the Skidmore United Methodist Church.

He served his country in the Korean Conflict and received a Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Star and others.

Lawrence retired after 36 1/2 years at Laclede Chain, Maryville and he farmed.

He was a member of Burlington Junction United Methodist Church, Disabled Veterans, and the 24th Infantry Association. 

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; son Rick McIntyre (July 25, 2011) brothers Roland and Gene McIntyre, brothers-in-law John Elifrits and Jim Collville and nephews Brad and Ben McIntyre.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years Wilma, of the home, brothers Larry (Sylvia) McIntyre and Lanny (Debbie) McIntyre of Burlington Junction, Gary (Jackie) McIntyre, Maryville, Forrest (Susan) McIntyre, Clearmont, MO
sisters Connie Colville, Pickering, MO, Carolyn Elifrits, Oregon, MO, and several nieces and nephews. 

A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the United Methodist Church, Burlingtion Jct., MO with a funeral service folowing at 2:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow the service at the Ohio Cemetery, Burlington Jct..

Moore, Debbie Jo - Debbie Jo Moore, age 65, Grant City, Missouri, died Monday, December 4, 2017 at Northwest Medical Center in Albany, Missouri. 

Debra “Debbie” was born September 14, 1952 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of the late Ira Junior 
and JoAnn (Hoffman) Perry. 

Debbie was a graduate of Skidmore High School, Skidmore, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Robert Dean Moore on September 28, 1969 in Maryville, Missouri.

Debbie had been an over the road truckdriver for both Schneider and Crete Trucking Companies before retiring.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father A.D. "Babe" Stinnett, one brother Bob Perry and a son Lewis Teegarden.

Her survivors include: Husband Robert of the home, a daughter Michelle Moore, and her grandson Jeremy Foster, all of Grant City, sisters Gail MacMurray, Nita Poppa, and brother Scott Spillman.

Mrs. Moore has been cremated. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at the Worth County Fairgrounds Building in Grant City. Pastor Bendi Burgin will be officiating. Inurnment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore, Missouri

Neff, Mary Christine "Chris" Bracken - Mary Christine "Chris" Neff, 88, of Maryville, MO passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Village Care Center.

Chris was born on January 3, 1929 in the Maryville area to William and Augusta
(Rutledge) Bracken.

She was a graduate of Horace Mann High School. She was a homemaker and a waitress at Gray's Truck Stop for over 35 years. She loved to garden and play pitch and also raised and butchered chickens.

Chris married Marcus Neff on February 14, 1946 in Troy, KS. He preceded her in death on December 15, 2002. She was also preceded by her parents, two sons, Richard "Dickie" Neff on September 18, 1996 and Bob Neff on February 8, 2008, three brothers, Richard, Harold and Charles Bracken, great-granddaughter, Abrielle Neff, great-grandson, Cole Searl.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Virginia Neff of Maryville, MO and her children, Tammy Martin (Jimmie), Mark Neff (Brenda) and Kevin Neff; daughter-in-law, Louise Neff, Burlington Jct., MO and her children, Tina Robbins (Cliff), Kim Koch (Billy); 13-great-grandchildren, 4-great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Newton, Elizabeth Anne Blair - Elizabeth A. Newton, 89, of Maryville, Missouri formerly of Skidmore passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Nodaway Nursing Home.

Elizabeth was born on June 23, 1928 in Rosendale, Missouri to John W. and Alice E. (Gilmore) Blair. 

She was a graduate of the Fillmore High School. She was a homemaker and member of the Skidmore United Methodist Church.

She married R.G. "Zeke" Newton on February 23, 1947 in Troy, Kansas. He preceded her in death on September 7, 2006. She was also preceded by her parents, infant twin brother and sister and three sisters, Barbara Hayworth, Margaret Smith and Wanda Davison and brother, John W. Blair, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Patti (Raymond) Riley, Graham, Missouri; four brothers, Blaine Blair, Ft. Worth, Texas, Robert Blair and Donnie Blair both of Savannah, Missouri, Dean Blair, Clarksdale, Missouri; two sisters, Karen Shirley, St. Joseph, Missouri and Sharron Ott, Riverside, California; four grandchildren, Kristin Patterson, Shannon (Joshua) Milbourn, Justin (Hannah) Patterson and Lukas Riley; seven great-grandchildren.

Ruth Jean Parman, 87, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of the Barnard and Graham areas, passed from this life on Monday, October 30, 2017, at her home, with her family at her side.

Ruth Jean was born on November 26, 1929, in Barnard, MO.  Her parents were Sam C. and Ruby H. (Gilbert) Burns, and preceded her in death.  She was also preceded by her husband, John L. Parman, on September 28, 2009.

She graduated from Graham High School, and had attended NWMSU, in Maryville.  She was a farm wife, and had worked at JC Penney’s, and Gray’s Insurance, both of Maryville, and had been a hospice volunteer in the area.

On May 22, 1949, in Barnard, MO, Ruth Jean was united in marriage to John L. Parman, he passed away in 2009.

She leaves behind her 2 sons, Kurby Parman, Barnard, and Bob (Nancy) Parman, Barnard; 2 grandsons, Cody (Necama) Parman , Barnard, and Austin (Katie) Parman, Barnard, 2 granddaughters, Bobbi J. (Seneca) Holmes, Aurora, CO, and Jessie L. (Nathan) Prettyman, Barnard; 10 great grandchildren, Seneca, Santonio and Soren Holmes, Parker, Paxton, Piper and Porter Prettyman, Blair Allen, Sadie Parman, Jackson Parman, and 2 honorary great granddaughters, Ivy and Eliana Goldsmith.

Proffit, Tracy Lee - Tracy Lee Proffit, 63, Maryville, Missouri died November 3, 2017, at home after a long illness.

He was born in Holt County, Missouri January 9, 1954 to Delmer Eugene "Doc" and Loretta June Mackey Proffit. Tracy attended Skidmore High School and married Debbie Priest October 11, 1972.

Tracy was a mechanic who, along with his wife, owned and operated Maryville Muffler and Auto for many years. He was a gun advocate, had a gun shop at one time and also loved having coffee talk at home with friends, family and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother Marty.

Protzman, Cheryle Wanita Reed - Cheryle Wanita Protzman, 93, of Maryville, Missouri passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Oak Pointe of Maryville.

Cheryle was born on March 10, 1924 in Corning, Iowa to Clarence and Wanda (Johnston) Reed. She was a homemaker and member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, antiques, music, singing, playing piano, playing cards and garage sales.

She married William L. Protzman on July 17, 1942 in Atchison, Kansas. They were married for 52 years. William passed away on March 3, 1995. She was also preceded by her parents and four brothers, Bill, Eddie, Kenny and Donnie Reed.

Donna Coleen Riley, 82, of Maryville, MO, passed from this life on Friday, December 15, 2017, at the Parkdale Manor Nursing Home, Maryville, with her family at her side.

Donna was born near Gentry, MO, on July 3, 1935.  She had resided for most of her life in the area.  She had spent 2 years in Louisiana while Drexel was in the Army, and they had wintered in Mission Texas for over 30 years.

Her parents were Lester Martin and Aulta Gondola (Smith) Wilkinson, Sr.  They preceded her in death.  She was also preceded by an infant sister, Betty Jean, her son, Gareld Riley, in 2012, her sisters, Mary Midyett, and Carol Jean Palmer, and her brother, Lester, Jr.

Donna graduated in 1953 from Parnell High School, Parnell, MO.  She was a homemaker and had helped Drexel with all the farm chores and had kept the books for the farm.  She loved to garden and canning.  Her family was very important to her, she liked big Sunday dinners and gatherings.  She doted on her grandchildren. 

On February 8, 1953, Donna was united in marriage to Drexel Duane Riley, at Camp Polk, LA.  He survives of the home.

She is also survived by her 3 daughters, Connie (Danny) Cline, Pickering, MO, Judy (Tim) Norris, Braddyville, IA, and Sally (David) Palmer, Bolckow, MO; her daughter in law, Vicki Riley, Hopkins, MO; 2 sisters, Beverly Walker, and Shirley Downing, both of Maryville; 11 grandchildren, Adam (Vivian) Riley, Kathy (John) Brown, Jennifer (Dave) Riedel, Matthew (Cari) Cline, Brad (Keely) Cline, Michael (Lori) Norris, Chad (Mellissa) Norris, Brian (Ethera) Norris, Angela (Aaron) Lane, Brandon (Kelby) Palmer, and Nathan Palmer; 29 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

James C. Roberts, 86, of Burlington Junction, MO passed away unexpectedly, on January 1, 2018.

James Roberts was born March 14, 1931 in Tarkio, MO. His parents were Herman Cecil and Wilma Leilla (Britton) Roberts. They preceded him in death.

James was a graduate of Tarkio High School. He served his country in the United States Army.

Mr. Roberts was a life long farmer. He also had a corn sheller business for several years.

His true love was farming and raising cattle. He also loved the outdoors.

His survivors included a sister, Norma Mchale of Thorton, CO. One niece Janet Gail Kleckner of Thorton, CO, and one great nephew, Chris Puckett of Burlington Junction, MO.

Schafer, William Joseph - William Joseph Schafer, 77, Maryville, MO died Friday, December 1, 2017, at North Care Hospice in Kansas City, MO.

Bill was born June 3, 1940 in Maryville to the late Henry and Margaret Jaeger Schafer. He and Dorothy Spire were united in marriage August 5, 1967 in Parnell, MO.

A lifelong farmer, Bill was a member of St. Gregory's Barbarigo Catholic Church and the Knight's of Columbus.

Preceding him in death were his parents, son Kenneth Schafer, brothers: Herman, Robert, Ernest, Martin, James, John and Leonard Schafer and son-in-law Frank Szabo.

Bill is survived by his wife Dorothy Schafer, of the home; son Edward (Amber) Schafer, Maryville, daughters: Christine Szabo, Platte City, MO, Rebecca Schafer, Kansas City, MO and Elaine Schafer, Platte City, daughter-in-law Toni Schafer, Maryville, sisters: Clara Ann Johnson, Omaha, NE, Dorothy Rose Mullinax and Mary Margaret Hernandez, both of St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren: Trevor, Mason, Evalyn, Adalyn Schafer and Zach Szabo. Dorothy Ann (Clark) Schmidt, 84, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Pickering, MO, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018. She had resided at the Maryville Living Center, Maryville, MO, as her health had declined for several years.

Dorothy was born on December 10, 1933, in Matfield Green, Kansas, the first child of Frank G. and Pauline (Heying) Clark.  Three sons joined the family in the following years; Frank, Harold, and Gary.

She graduated from Greensburg, KS. High School in 1952 and married John R. Runkle, a Marine, who had recently returned from the Korean War. Three children were born of this union. They resided in Meade, KS and Dodge City KS. The couple later divorced.

Dorothy had a love for gardening. She treasured her summer vegetable garden and had beautiful flowers from early spring to late fall. She was especially fond of deep red and pink Peonies that grew in her yard. She looked after the squirrels and birds in the winter months and ensured they were fed. She adopted orphaned kitties and found homes for others. She was active in her little community and volunteered at numerous events. She loved country music and loved to dance the two-step!

She retired from the ARMARK food service at Northwest Missouri State University and had worked in retail stores to include PAMIDA in Maryville, Mo.

Dorothy is survived by her 3 children, Lori K. Davies of Glan-Munchweiler, Germany, John A. Runkle of Indianapolis IN, Donald R. Runkle of Charlotte, NC, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Frank (June) Clark, Marionville, Mo, Harold (Georgia) Clark, Stanton, Iowa. Gary Clark, St Joseph and other extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Pauline Clark.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Methodist church.

Graveside services and burial will be 1:30 PM, Saturday, January 20, 2018, at the Maitland Cemetery, Maitland, MO.

Franki was born on January 18, 1989 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Kenneth L. and Penny D. (Holst) Etter.

She was preceded in death by her father.

She was a homemaker and married Christopher "Chris" Schubert, He survives of the home. Seipel, John Mannschreck - John Mannschreck Seipel passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, at his home in Maryville, Missouri on October 19, 2017.

John was born in Maryville on June 28, 1950, where he lived almost his entire life. After graduating in 1968 from St. Bede’s Catholic High School, he returned home to work for Maryville Packing Plant, his family business, until it closed. He went on to work at Kawasaki for 26 years, before retiring in 2016.

John was a devout member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. He loved doing anything and everything outside and watching sports-especially the MU Tigers, Green Bay Packers, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. But, most of all, he loved his family.

He will be remembered for his kind heart, generosity, mischievous sense of humor, and for being the most loving and devoted dad and “papa” anyone could ever wish for.

He is survived by his parents Hubert and Maryle, children Melissa Seipel (William Gerhart), Megan Ostendorf (Mike), Josh Seipel, his partner and friend Carol Owens, grandchildren Jackson, Patrick and Amelia, siblings Sandi (Dave), Dave (Rebecca), Nan (Randy), Sally (Larry), Doug (Diana) and eleven nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11a.m. Monday, October 23, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Maryville. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Maryville. Zelma Beatrice Leona Munsey Shackelford, 100, of Blockton, IA, and formerly of Maryville, MO, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the SSM Hospital in Maryville.

Zelma was born on September 26, 1917, in Graham, MO, and moved to Maryville in 1943.  Her parents were Ira E. and Martha Josephine (Burchett) Munsey, and preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, on March 4, 1999; and 2 brothers, Glen Munsey and Davis Munsey.

Zelma was a housewife most of her life, and always raised a garden near her home.   She had worked at Registered Arrow, a bow and arrow factory in Maryville, the former Knotty Pine Motel, the former Cardinal Inn and was a cook for 15 years at former Noah’s Ark daycare center, all of Maryville.

She taught Sunday school for over 60 years at the Community of Faith Church, Maryville, and had taught the Missionettes, a Christian girls club, and had been president of the Golden Agers Club.  In 1986 she started playing the piano for local nursing homes and entertained all over the Maryville area for many years.

On June 18, 1940, Zelma was united in marriage to Wayne H. Shackelford in Burlington Junction, MO.  He preceded her in death.

Her survivors include her children, Jack (Sherry) Shackelford, Blockton, IA, and Sharon Shackelford, Maryville, MO; 14 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.  The burial will follow in the Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, MO.

Jeanette Shipps, 83, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at Oak Pointe in Maryville.

Jeanette was born in Fairfax, MO, on January 12, 1934. Her parents were Frank and Mildred (Burke) Stouffer. 

She graduated from Fairfax High School in 1952, then graduated from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in 1956, and taught Kindergarten briefly in Kansas City, she had spent time as a waitress in Colorado.

She met her future husband at a dance in Parnell, MO, and on July 25, 1957, in Fairfax, Jeanette was united in marriage to Garland N. Shipps.

She taught Kindergarten in Maryville, ushering many great students into grade school. She retired from teaching in 1964 to raise Greg in 1964, then Gary came in 1968.  She proudly made a home for her family and worked with Garland at farming, raising cattle, hogs and crops and eventually working at their grain elevator. 

Jeanette loved to garden and can, to host supper clubs, and even an occasional barn dance, enjoying antiquing and had a knack for finding the perfect gift. Dogs had a special place in Jeanette’s heart.

Her greatest joy came from watching her grandkids grow. She loved to entertain them and spoil them rotten, always ready to bake their favorite cookie, invite them to decorate for Christmas with the village, and later watch a game, whatever the sport, or attend their concerts.  Second only to her family was her love of bridge, and recently 5 Crowns with her friends at Oak Pointe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Greg in 1997, her husband in 2005, her brother and sister in laws, Ed Meyer, Earl and Nellie Shipps, and Bob Lamb.

Jeanette was a proud member of the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, and of many local bridge clubs.

Jeanette leaves behind a sister, Dolore Meyer; son Gary (Mary Beth) Shipps; grandchildren, great grandchildren, in laws, Joanne and Jerry Peter, and Gayle Lamb; nieces, nephews and families, and many friends and neighbors.  She’ll keep a spot open at her table for us to join her.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 PM, Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville. The burial will follow in the Miriam Cemetery, also of Maryville.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

John Leo “Jack” Stiens, 81, of Maryville MO, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017, in St. Joseph, MO.  Born September 8, 1936, John farmed and lived on the Stiens family farm that was established in 1912 by his grandfather.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Jean Auer Stiens; children, Kirby (Rosemary) Stiens, Alan Stiens (Dee Marriott), Rhonda (Craig) Bernard, and Jennifer Oliver (Kregg Rahn); grandchildren, Ryan (Kayla) Stiens, Jordan, Jessa, and Derek Stiens, Brieann, Cole and Cassidy Stiens, Savannah, Jonathon, and Andrew Bernard, Dylan Oliver and Logan Rahn; great-grandchildren, Rylee and Jack Stiens.  Also survived by siblings, Jim (Della) Stiens, Dorothy Miller, and countless nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Stiens; siblings, William Stiens, Doris Porter, Mary Tobin, Richard Stiens, and son in law Chad Oliver.

John had an infectious smile and an uncanny comedic timing for storytelling and jokes.  We will all miss his sense of humor and ability to make us laugh.

Visitation will start at 5:30 PM, on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at St. Gregory’s.  Where the parish prayer service will be at 7:00 PM.  Then visitation will continue after the prayer service.

Stinger, Howard Leroy - Howard L. Stringer, 92, Maryville, Missouri passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Howard was born on March 9, 1925 in Hopkins, Missouri to Charles and Maude (Hopple) Stringer.

He served in the Army during World War II as an x-ray technician. He was a member of the Hopkins United Methodist Church, Township Trustee for several years and a member of the Pickering Lions Club.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Thelma Bainum and brother, Sam Stringer.

He married Neola A. Nicholson on December 31, 1945 in Kansas. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include son, Richard Stringer six grandchildren, Christina Ziph, Ann Estes, Richard A. Stringer, Amy Coulter, Dustin Stringer and Rebecca Lawrence; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters.

Straub, Berniece H. Richards - Berniece H. Straub, 75, of Maryville, Missouri passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at her home.

Berniece was born on March 29, 1942 in Rockport, Missouri to Allen and Phyllis (Hughes) Richards. She was a homemaker and enjoyed her grandchildren and sunshine.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Maria Straub.

Survivors include her children, Lynette Straub, Maryville, Missouri and son, Jay Straub, Leavenworth, Kansas; brother, Tom Hughes, Tarkio, Missouri and two grandchildren, Lane Florea, Maryville, Missouri and Joseph E. Straub, Platte City, Missouri.

Rosann Taylor, 75, Mound City, Missouri passed away Saturday, November 11, 2017.

She was born October 7, 1942 to Jack and Evonne (Strickler) Clement.

Rosann took much pride in her appearance, her dancing, and her barn.  Her love for her horses and dog Sky was unending.

When she and her son, Buddy would dance, many times the floor would clear so the people could simply stand and watch.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Evonne Wright, and Jack and Barb Clement; daughter, Ann Evonne; and brother Del Clement.

Survivors include son, Gary Glenn “Buddy” Taylor, Jr. (Terri Ann), granddaughter, Montana Marie; brothers, Warren Wright, Jesse, Greg, Royce and Scott Clement; numerous nieces, nephews and host of friends.

Her granddaughter, Montana was very, very special to her.  We will miss you Mom and Sis- Happy Trails till we meet again.

Taylor, Russell Ray - Russell R. Taylor, 67, Platte City, Missouri, passed away November 16, 2017. He was born September 10, 1950.

Russ served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam era. He worked as a dental tech at the V.A. Leavenworth.

He was preceded in death by his parents Kathleen E. Farnan Taylor and John B. Taylor and brother Douglas Taylor.

He is survived by brothers Steve (Debbie), Ron (Janell) and Nathan Vanice and sisters Charlotte Schneider (Joseph) and Georgia Taylor and Dana Ingels.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 24 at Miriam Cemetery, Maryville.

Doyle Tompkins was born to Glenn and Lillie Tompkins on February 3, 1926.  He lived his entire life in the Barnard and Maryville, Missouri, area. Doyle graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1944 and served in Japan at the end of World War II.

On September 6, 1952, Doyle married Phyllis Duncan and together on the farm near Barnard they raised two children, Dwight and Brenda. Doyle was a lifelong farmer and a retired employee of MODOT.  He cherished his farm and continued to care for it up into his late 80’s.  He enjoyed the outdoors, road and camping trips with his family, reading National Geographic, and caring for his cattle and pets.  Doyle especially loved his three little wiener dogs.  As a young man, he attained his pilot’s license and throughout his life was fascinated with airplanes.  Doyle was a devoted member of the Barnard Church of Christ.  

Everyone who knew Doyle admired his earnest, kind, and gentle nature.

Doyle was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, his brother, Verlin, and his son, Dwight.  Survivors include his daughter, Brenda Ryan, and her husband, Pat; daughter-in-law, Mary Tompkins; granddaughter, Kimberly McNamara, and her husband, Kevin; and great-granddaughters, Brynn and Elowyn.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 6, 2018, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home in Maryville, MO. Burial will be at the Barnard Masonic Cemetery.

The family will receive friends and family on Friday, January 5, 2018, from 6-8:00 PM at the funeral home.

E. Willis Walker, 82, of Maryville, MO, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Parkdale Manor in Maryville, with his family at his side.

Willis was born on October 7, 1935, near Sheridan, MO.  He grew up in the Parnell and Ravenwood, MO areas and moved to Maryville in 1955.

Willis graduated from Parnell High School in 1953, and had attended NWMSU in Maryville. 

On November 20, 1955, Willis was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Wilkinson, she survives of the home. They were married for over 61 years.

Willis enjoyed farming on his own ground near Ravenwood, and tending his cattle and sheep.  He liked to fish, and had played softball for his church team.

He was a member and Deacon at the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville.  He became a Deacon in 1959.  He was the song leader at the church and had sang many solos during the years.  He was a volunteer fireman in Maryville, and was a 20 plus year member of the Gideon’s International.

Willis was preceded in death by his parents, L.B. and Nora (Chapman) Walker, and his twin sister, Wilma Smith.

54 years ago, he founded, owned and operated the Walker Body Shop in Maryville, he retired in 2004, then helped for several years part time at the shop.  He started in the body shop at the former Curnutt Motors.    

He is survived by his wife Beverly, of the home; 4 children, Bill, and wife Stephanie Walker, Maryville, Dr. Dan, and wife Susan Walker, Creston, IA, Peggy, and husband Jeff Ostrander, Waukee, IA, and Ben, and wife Brenda Walker, Creston; 10 granddaughters, Jodi Loucks, Terra, and husband Mark Snyder, Ann, and husband Daniel Barnett, Ellen Walker, Allison, and husband Kenny Froment, Kelsie, and husband Taylor Royster, Nicole, and husband Tony Henry, Hailey Walker, Abby Walker, Grace Ostrander; 8 great grandchildren, and one on the way; his siblings, Laymon Walker, Bellevue, NE, Evelyn (Vern) Summa, Maryville, Bill (Vicki) Walker, Parnell, Rolland (Donna) Walker, Maryville, Harley (Jerri) Walker, Parachute, CO, and brother in law, Ronald Gene Smith, Savannah, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Weldon, George Calvin - George Calvin Weldon passed away peacefully on October 28, 2017, in Maryville, Missouri at the age of 92. He was a life long resident of Nodaway County.

George was born on August 30, 1925 in Barnard, Missouri, to Harve Thurman Weldon and Florence Belle South. George's mother died when he was five years old. His father later married Vie Pitsenberger.

He is preceded in death by his son, George Kurby, his parents, and two brothers Thurman (Loree) and Oral (Margaret).

George is survived by his wife, Eldora, and his daughter, Wanda Knauer of Ft Collins, Colorado. Surviving are daughter-in-law Vickie Weldon, grandchildren Amy (Brad) Wolf and Adam (Sherra) Weldon; great-grandchildren Layla, Micah, Hadley and Zoey Wolf, and Addison, Brinslee and Harper Weldon. In addition, he is survived by three nieces, Darlene Patton, Arlene Weldon, and Dee Weldon White. Also surviving are Eldora's four children: Tom (Deb) Marble, Susan Duvall, Brenda Couch and Kim McCary.

George graduated in 1943 from Horace Mann High School in Maryville where he enjoyed playing football, basketball and especially softball. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines and served aboard the Edmund B. Alexander and David C. Shanks United States Army Transport ships as a cook and chief storekeeper from 1944-1946.

He married Helen Stanton in 1947. Together they had two children: Wanda Marie and George Kurby. They later divorced and George married Eldora Marble from Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1991. They lived in Graham in the house that George built in 1966.

George farmed northeast of Graham until he began building grain bins for Stormor of Beatrice, Nebraska. He retired (reluctantly) from Stormor after 54 years of service. His work was his passion. He loved building grain storage and servicing storage equipment during the harvest season.

George was a member of the Graham Lion's Club. He enjoyed the service projects and served a term as president. George and Eldora enjoyed spending winters in south Texas pitching horseshoes and dancing.

A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Maitland United Methodist Church, with Pastor Dave Shadinger officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George's life. Burial will follow in the Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham, Missouri. After the burial, a dinner will be held at the United Methodist Church in Maitland, 217 South Maple Avenue, Maitland, MO 64466.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Evelyn (Calfee, Yarrington) Wessley, 91, of Bountiful Utah, formerly of Burlington Jct., Missouri and Kansas City passed away at the North Canyon Care Center at Bountiful.

Mrs. Wessley was born March 12, 1926 at Elmo, Missouri, the daughter of Virgil and Bessie (Adkins) Calfee. Evelyn was a homemaker who was raised in Burlington Jct. She graduated from Burlington Jct. High School in 1943. She married Eldon Yarrington and they moved out of the area. After their divorce, she met and married Louis (Wes) Wessley.

Mrs. Wessley is survived by a daughter, Tanya Hedges of Kansas City, Missouri, a son, Thomas K. Yarrington and wife Kelly of Kaysville, Utah, two step-daughters, Patty Lewis and husband Jerry, Arma, Kansas and Jeannie Thomas and husband Joe, Kansas City, Missouri, daughter-in-law Dana Yarington, Leawood, Kansas, a brother, Lowell Calfee and wife Carol of Burlington Jct., grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wessley was preceded in death by her parents, husband ‘Wes’, son, Trygve Ken Yarrington, brother Donald Calfee and sister Ila Beery.

Mrs. Wessley has been cremated according to her wishes.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 10, 2017 at the Clearmont Cemetery, officiated by her great nephew, Pastor Benjamin Poole.

George Irvin Williams, 92, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at the Veterans Home in Bellevue, NE.

George was born in Siam, IA, then lived and was raised in Hopkins, MO, where he graduated high school.  He lived in the Maryville area since the early 1940’s. 

George received his BS at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, then his Masters of Science for Teachers at the University of Missouri/Columbia.  He taught Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Advanced Math for 20 years at the Maryville High School.  He also was a bookkeeper and had done the books and income tax preparation for many area businesses. 

His memberships included the First United Methodist Church, where he was the Treasurer and bookkeeper for many years.  He was a member, the bookkeeper, and Past Exalter Ruler of the Maryville Elks Lodge #760, and was also District Deputy of the Elks.  He was a lifetime member of the James Edward Gray American Legion Post 100, Maryville, and recently was a member of the Papillion NE, American Legion Post 32.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Margia M. (Cates) Williams, in 2006, they were married in Maryville in 1943, his siblings, and his son in law, Danny Fraze. 

He proudly served his country during WW II in the United State Army, and was honorably discharge in 1943.  

He is survived by his children, Beverly Diane Fraze, Maryville, MO, Michael I. (Joyce) Williams, LaVista, NE; 2 grandchildren, Julie (Dan) Hurley, and Nicholas Williams; 3 grandchildren, Kadeyn, Bridget and Alice.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, December 16, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, MO.  The burial will follow with full military honors in the Miriam Cemetery, Maryville.

Beverly Rae Zimmerman, 85, of Burlington Junction, MO, passed away December 30, 2017, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, MO.

Beverly was born December 31, 1931, in Los Angeles, CA. Her parents were Dr. Edward Charles Schondorf, and Anna (Twiford) Schondorf, they preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were two step brothers, Joe Upshaw and George Upshaw.

Beverly graduated from Hart High School of California in 1949.

On February 17, 1952, she was married to Karl A. Zimmerman in California he survives of the home. To this union 3 children were born, Tom (Merion Estes) Zimmerman, of Los Angeles, CA, Kathleen (Shawn) Price, of Burlington Jct. MO, and Kris (Nikki) Zimmerman, of Boise ID.

Beverly worked many years for the Safeway grocery store co. She also worked in food service and at a local vegetable stand in California. After retiring in California, she and Karl moved to Burlington Junction, MO in 2004.

Other survivors include a sister in law Kristine Upshaw of Florida and an aunt and uncle Robert and wife Marcella Twiford, of Oxnard, CA, and 7 grandchildren Colby, Gunner, Nathan of Boise, Idaho, Natalie (Jamie), of south MO, Brittney (fiancée Jaston) of King City, MO, Jenna (friend Kelton) of Maryville MO, and Jayden of Burlington Junction, MO, 2 great grandchildren Scarlett, of King City, MO, and Ashton of south MO.

Beverly has been cremated under the care and direction of Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home.

Zirfas, Wilbert Francis "Willie" - Wilbert Francis "Willie" Zirfas, 91, of Maryville, Missouri passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018 at Parkdale Manor, Maryville, Missouri.

Willie the son of John and Nora (Abels) Zirfas, was born on October 19, 1926 in rural Clyde, Missouri. He graduated Conception High School, Conception, Missouri in the class of 1945. On April 26, 1958 Willie married Monica Giesken in St. Patricks Catholic Church, Maryville.

A lifelong farmer, he was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Community in Maryville.

Preceding him in death were his parents, sister, Alfreda Zirfas and brothers, Lawrence, Roger, Cleo and Jerry Zirfas.

Willie is survived by his wife, Monica of their home in rural Maryville; sisters, Marian Mattson, Conception Junction, Missouri and Rita (Jerry) Schieber, Conception, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosary 5:30pm Thursday, January 11th at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:00pm.
