Andrews, Thelma Irene Heniger Griffith - Thelma Andrews passed away on February 22, 2017. She was born Thelma Irene Heniger July 20,1922 the daughter of Roland Dale Heniger and Alta (Firkins) Heniger in the village of Amity Iowa.

Thelma graduated high school in 1941 from College Springs High School. Following graduation, she married Perry Griffith. During WWII, she was a “Rosie the Riveter” building aircraft for the war effort in San Diego, Wichita, Boston, and the Carolinas.

Following the war they settled near College Springs where Thelma was employed as a telephone operator, worked on the farm, helped build a trucking company and began a family of three children, Joyce Marcene Griffith born 1947, Dwight Dean Griffith born 1952, and Kevin Eugene Griffith born 1956.

Thelma married Herbert Doyle Andrews on February 13, 1964 and began a life in Nebraska. They lived in Syracuse, Nebraska for many years. They had one child Norma Gail Andrews. Thelma, during this time was active in the community working for the Methodist Church (of which she was a member) as secretary. She worked for Dr. Sweat a local veterinarian, and Larry Larson who owned Larry’s Grocery store. Thelma was meals on wheel coordinator for Tabitha Nursing Home in Lincoln.

After moving to St Joseph Missouri, Thelma again put her clerical skills to work as she worked along side her husband as employees of Speedway Transportation. They retired in Northwest Missouri living in Elmo and Maryville Missouri.

Her sister Norma Heniger Spangler, brother-in-law Don Spangler, and infant child Norma Gail Andrews preceded her in death. Five grandchildren, many great grandchildren, friends, and members of the communities she has lived in survive her.

There is no formal Visitation, however Memorial Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, February 27, 2017, at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Burial will be held at LaMar Cemetery at a later date.

Mrs. Andrews will be cremated.

Bagley, Ginger M. Kelso - Ginger M. Bagley, 79, Guilford, MO, died on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at Maryville Living Center.

She was born April 16, 1937 in Rock Springs, Wyoming, the daughter of Francis Glade and Gladys Whetstine Kelso.

She was a graduate of South Nodaway High School, where she was crowned in 1954, as the first homecoming queen. Ginger and Donald Wesley Bagley were married August 14, 1955 in Guilford.

Ginger was active in all sports until she was past 50 years of age. She played racquetball, softball, basketball.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Dorothy Kelso and brothers, Frank, Bill and Glade Kelso.

Ginger is survived by her husband Donald Bagley of their home in Guilford, son Michael Bagley, Kansas City, MO, daughters, Penny Barker, Lees Summit, MO and Marsha Biwer, Enumclaw, WA; 11 grandchildren Katie, Andy, Tyler and Melissa Barker, Taylor, Kalissa, Talon and Jalyn Bagley, and Nick, Kate and Morgan Olberding; 2 great-grandchildren Edison Moody and Avery Barker and brother, Ted Kelso, Agency, MO.

Visitation will be held from 6-7 PM Thursday, February 9, 2017, Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, February 10th, also at Price Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Weathermon Cemetery, Guilford.

Barcus, Edward Rolland - Edward Rolland Barcus, 85, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Clearmont, MO, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at the VA Hospital in Kansas City, MO.

Ed was born on April 16, 1931, in Ruthven, IA. His parents were Irvin Earl and Edith Martha (McCullah) Barcus. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his wife, Ruth, on January 15, 2013. Ed spend most all his life in the area.

He proudly served his country in the US Navy, from 1951 to 1956.

On December 25, 1955, he was united in marriage to Ruth Elaine Friend, at the Clearmont Baptist Church.

Ed spend 25 years at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. He was a campus safety officer, and later was in the environmental department. In his younger days he was a farmer and trucker.

He was a member and attended the Clearmont Baptist Church, Clearmont, MO, and the Bradley-Carver American Legion Post 492, Elmo, MO.

His survivors include his 3 children, David E. (Jeanette) Barcus, Clearmont, MO, Gloria M (Joe) Reidlinger, Maryville, MO, and Darla K. (Jeff) Smith, Coin, IA; his brother, James I. (Sue) Barcus, Hopkins, MO, and his sister, Dorthy M. Fluke, Bedford, IA; 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. The burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Clearmont, MO. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM, Monday, December 19, 2016, at the funeral home.

Barry, Edward Patrick - Edward Patrick Barry, 87, Maryville, MO, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Parkdale Manor,

Ed was born January 26, 1930, in Leon, Iowa to James and Harriett (Sullivan) Barry. He was a graduate of Conception High School, Conception, MO.

On October 10, 1950, Ed and Cecelia Frances Monnett were married at St. Benedict Church, Clyde, MO.

A farmer, he also had worked in the Maintenance Department of the Eveready Plant in Maryville and as the Sextant at St. Columba Cemetery for many years.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife Cecelia Barry, son Daniel Barry, and infant brother Anthony Barry.

Surviving are his children: James (Denise), Virginia Beach, VA, Stephen, Maryville, Gerald, Faucett, MO, Raymond (Mary), Bolckow, MO, Dennis, Ridgeway, MO, Elaine (Ron) Wilson, Maryville, Alicia (Dennis) DiPietro, Appleton, WI, and Vincent (Pam), Ash Gove, MO; sisters, Catharine Ginther and Mary (Jr) Pappert, St. Joseph, MO; brother, Joe (Eileen) Barry, Liberty, MO; cousin, Virgene Brown, Leon, IA; sister-in-law, Bernice Meyer, Imogene, IA; 20 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Rosary will be held at 5:00 PM Sunday, March 5, 2017, followed by a visitation from 5:30-7:30 PM at St. Columba Catholic Church, Conception Jct., MO.

Bond, Burdette - Burdette Bond, 73, Graham, MO, left this life for the next on Friday, February 3, 2017, from home, surrounded by friends and loved ones.

The son of Forrest Marcel and Leona Eula Acklin Bond, he was born on January 4, 1944, in Maryville, MO. He graduated in 1962 from Skidmore High School and attended NWMSU.

He served in the US Army, including a year in Vietnam as an infantry sergeant, 1967-68, earning a CIB, 2 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart, among other awards.

A heavy equipment operator, he ran his own dozing business.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years, Gayle Russell Bond, his 'faux daughter' and sister in law, Nina Russell Wiederholt and husband Bob, his honorary grandkids, Sarah Wiederholt Dickman (Paul), Russell Wiederholt (Laura), and Vincent Wiederholt (Deanna), their children, nephews Robert Waddell (Debbie), and John Thomas Waddell (Anita), brother, Roger Bond (Ruth), his aunt, Dorothy Mae Acklin, great nieces and great nephews, dozens of cousins and many friends.

Visitation, 5-8:00 PM, Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. Celebration of Life, 10:30 AM, February 9, 2017, the Bethany Rural Christian Church, Barnard, MO. Brown, Dennis Wayne -

Dennis Wayne Brown, 58, of Skidmore, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at his home in Skidmore.

Dennis was born on May 31, 1958, to Charles Wayne and Ena Marilyn (Madden) Brown.  He was preceded in death by his father in 1998; and his daughter, Jamie D. Brown-Carlson, in 2014.

He was a 1976 graduate of Nodaway-Holt High School, in Graham, MO.  He recently retired as a farmer and truck driver in the Skidmore area.

Dennis enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed all country life.  He loved his family and friends, and his grandchildren were very special to him.

He is survived by his daughter, Jody Brown, Skidmore, 7 grandchildren, Halea VanGundy Maryville, Madison, Delani and Rylan Murphy, Skidmore, MO, and Cameron, Thomas and Gavin Carlson, St. Joseph, MO; his mother, Marilyn Brown, Maryville; his siblings, Joe (Kaye) Brown, Skidmore, Jerry (Tracy) Brown, Skidmore, Rosalie (Marlin) Everett, Barnard, MO, and Connie (Paul) Swartz, Graham, MO; son in law, Michael Carlson, St. Joseph; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville.  The burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore, MO.

Callow, Don Marvin - Don Marvin Callow, 64, Maryville, MO, died peacefully at his home Saturday, February 25, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Don was born September 11, 1952, in Maryville to James and Elsie (Scoville) Callow. He was a 1970 graduate of Nodaway-Holt High School and also attended Northwest Missouri State University.

On July 21, 1973, Don and Connie Lee Brookshier were united in marriage at the Bethany Christian Church, Barnard, MO.

Don was a farmer and a steward of the land. He enjoyed the outdoors, nature and all that came with it. As a farmer, he was involved in row crop production and livestock. One of his greatest passions became sweet corn. . . his was the best.

Don was a member of the Bethany Christian Church, Graham Lion's Club, Pony Express Farmer's Market, and the Pumpkin Center Coffee Club.

Preceding Don in death were his parents, brother Mike Callow and grandson Brayden Callow.

Surviving Don is his wife Connie Callow, of their home in Maryville; sons Clint (Lora) Callow, Savannah, MO, Casey (Chandra) Callow, Platte City, MO, and daughter Jessica (Wes) Uhlmeyer, Monticello, IL; grandchildren: Kelsie, Josie, Evan, Lane, Ellie, Ethan, Emily and Eliza; brothers Jerry (Kay) Callow, St. Joseph, MO, Alan (Lori) Callow, Smithville, MO, and George (Evelyn) Callow, Graham, MO; sister-in-law Dawn Callow, Boardman, OR, and extended family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Carroll, Betty Jean Beggs -

Betty Jean (Beggs) Carroll, 78, of Maryville, MO passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 16, 2017.

Betty was born near Guilford, MO, on November 7, 1938.  Her parents Robert Lee and Veda Earlene (Goforth) Beggs preceded her in death.  She was also preceded by her sisters, Mary Lou Phillippe and Janet Sue Beggs, her step father, Henry Oliver, and brother in law, Dick Allnutt. 

Betty graduated from Stanberry Missouri High School and attended a year of college. George Carroll and Betty were united in marriage in 1957 in Guilford, MO and divorced several years later.

Betty lived in Southwest Iowa from 1962 to 1987.

She worked as a job recruiter for Agri Careers, in Massena, IA and later worked with her brother in law Dick in Joplin, MO. Betty moved to Maryville in 2000 to care for her mother and step father. While in Maryville, she worked for 10 years as the First Presbyterian Church secretary.

Betty is survived by her 2 children, Mike (Tabitha) Carroll, Stanberry, MO, and Beth (Tim) Marcsisak, Atlantic, IA; her grandchildren, Maureen Carr, Matthew Dolch, Laura Dolch, Vince Carroll, and Brody Carroll; her siblings, Gary Edward (Melody) Beggs, Robert Dean (Sandra) Beggs, Rita Ann Allnutt, brother in law, Narvin Phillippe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty Carroll has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home in Maryville.

Rev. Jonathan Mitchell will officiate memorial services at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Maryville. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the church.

Inurnment will follow the services at the Weathermon Cemetery, Guilford, MO.

Chubick, Chad Andrew -

Chad Andrew Chubick, 33, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

Chad was born in Maryville, MO, on February 28, 1983. His parents were Marvin Lee and Barbara Louise (Seipel) Chubick. He lived all his life in the area.

He was a Maryville high school graduate, and earned a degree in Accounting at Northwest Missouri State University.

Chad loved the Bearcats, Royals baseball, soccer and fishing. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Evelyn Seipel and Joyce and Barney Wallace.

He is survived by his parents, Marvin and Barbara Chubick, Maryville, MO, his brother, Scott (Teri) Chubick, and nephews, Colton and Connor, Chillicothe, MO, his sisters, Lani (Jeff) Derks, and nephews, Nathan and Steven, and niece, Christina, Maryville, MO, and Ashley Chubick, and niece, Avalyn, Maryville, MO, and aunts, uncles, cousins, and many good friends from all over the world.

Chad's body has been cremated and his memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 7, 2017, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. No formal visitation is planned. Pastor Paul McKim will be the officiant.

 

Cochell, Mary "Betsey" Elizabeth Greene - Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Cochell was born on May 1, 1930, in Shelby, North Carolina. She passed on February 7, 2017, at the age of 86 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

She was the only child of Margaret Effie (Elliott) and Broadus Sylvanus Greene. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald Cochell, and two sons, Jim and Kenny.

She is survived by one son, Bill (Jeannie) of Phoenix, Arizona, a daughter-in-law, Sandra Cochell of Charlotte, North Carolina, and six grandchildren, Billie, Ellery, Eddie, Abbie, Kenneth, and Lily Mae Cochell.

When she was a little girl, her dad took her to baseball games and she became an avid sports fan. She was a fan of the Royals, and never missed a televised game of the Chiefs, Missouri Tigers, or Jayhawks basketball.

Mary Elizabeth graduated Shelby High School in 1947. She was a member of the Honor Society, Student Council, Journalism Club, Future Homemakers of America, and Spanish Club. She also was a Marshal and the Editor of Outlook.

Shortly after earning a Bachelor degree from Furman University, she met Donald Cochell on a blind date. They were married on November 23, 1951, and relocated to Albany, Missouri where they raised three sons and managed/owned two funeral homes.

In the early 1980s, they relocated to the Kansas City area, where Mrs. Cochell worked in the accounting department for Albright Chevrolet until she was almost 70.

She was an active member of P.E.O., loved playing bridge and pinochle. She was a member of the Albany and later, Raymore Christian Church.

A visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 PM Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Albany, Missouri Christian Church. It will be followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM.

Burial is at the Grandview Cemetery, Albany.

Conn, Mark Delmer - Mark Delmer Conn, 61, of Albany, MO, and formerly of Maryville, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 13, 2017, near Cosby, MO.

Mark was born on April 20, 1955, in Maryville, MO, his parents were Delmer Eugene and Charlotte Pauline (Graham) Conn. They preceded him in death.

He was a truck driver for Bullseye Trucking, Albany, MO.

Survivors: his fiancee, Vicki Pepin, Albany, MO, his children, Pat Conn, and Philip Conn, both of Omaha, NE, Jami (John) Baldwin, Council Bluffs, IA, Jenni Wiser, Story City, IA, Jessica Pepin and Glenn Moad, Albany, MO, Sara Pepin, Albany, MO, his siblings, Darla (Lanny) Estes, Maryville, MO, Gwen (Clayton) Stitt, Pattonsburg, MO, Carla (Jim) Stevens, Quitman, MO, Kevin (Teresa) Conn, Burlington Junction, MO, Michael (Stephanie) Conn, Maryville, MO, 8 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild, and nieces and nephews.

Cordell, Eldon R. -

Eldon R. Cordell, 90, of Savannah, MO, and formerly of Hopkins and Sheridan, MO, passed away on Friday, March 03, 2017, at LaVerna Village Nursing Home, Savannah, MO.

Eldon was born on July 26, 1926, in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming.  The family moved to the Sheridan area in the early 1950’s, where Eldon and his family farmed most of his life. 

He farmed and worked for Dr. Hardon in Bedford, IA. Later he helped his Dad farm near Sheridan.  He also drove the school bus at North Nodaway School and worked for Maryville Implement Co.  He was a mason and a 47 year member of the Xenia Lodge #50, AF & AM, Hopkins, MO

His parents were Joseph Ray and Leona Garland (Mayfield) Cordell.  They preceded him in death.  He was also preceded by 4 siblings; Irene Florea, Evelyn Brown, John D. Cordell and Elaine Wake.

On August 7, 1948, at the Nodaway County Courthouse in Maryville, Eldon was united in marriage to Norma Jean Musick.  They were married 62 years before her death in 2010.

His survivors include his son, Richard R., and wife Sue Cordell, Grain Valley, MO; his grandchildren, Amy Cordell, Kansas City, MO, and Bradley R., and wife Melinda Cordell, Savannah, MO; 2 great grandchildren, Sophia M. and Steven R. Cordell, Savannah, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and burial will be at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday March 7, 2017, at the Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville, MO. 

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services on Tuesday, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.

After the burial, the family invites friends and family back to the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home Community Room for refreshments

Dymond, William R. "Bill" - William Ray "Bill" Dymond, 59, of Burlington Junction, MO, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2017, at Mosaic Life Care, in St. Joseph, MO.

Bill was born on June 9th, 1957, in Fairfax, MO, to Earl Dean and Lou Etta Rose (Kerns) Dymond. His mother preceded him in death. He was of the christian faith.

Bill graduated from the West Nodaway RI High School, Burlington Junction, MO. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps. He worked installing cable and fiber optics.

He is survived by his daughters, Jenny Nicole (Prudenciano) Rocha, Kansas City, MO, and Jessica Ryan Dymond, Barnard, MO; his father Earl Dean Dymond, Burlington Junction, MO; his sister, Carol Ann Dymond, Osceloa, MO; two grandchildren, Kloey Dymond, and Taylor Christensen, and one step grandchild, Eryn Chance; and nieces and great nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dymond's body has been cremated. A memorial visitation will be held from 6-8:00 PM, Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO

 

Estes, Danny R. -

Danny R. Estes 69, 0f Skidmore, MO, died of Multiple System Atrophy on January 9, 2017, at his home near Skidmore.

Danny was born in Maryville, MO, on October 26, 1947.  His parents were Donnis and Maxine (Lattin) Wray.  He lived most of his life in the area. 

He graduated Northeast Nodaway High School in 1965; he then received his B.S. in English and Broadcasting, at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville.

Danny was drafted into the US Army in 1967 and served in Vietnam with Company D, 3/21st Infantry, Americal Division from 1968 to 1969.  He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart during that time.

He joined the Army National Guard with the 129th FA, for another 33 years of military service.  He retired as Command Sgt. Major in 2007.

During his military career, he shot rifle and pistol competitively.  He was a highly distinguished shooter, serving on The Army Guard National and State teams.  Among his many awards: 4 President’s 100 Awards, and Double Distinguished Rifle and Pistol Awards

Danny served two terms as Sheriff for Nodaway County, MO.  He had also been a Nodaway County Deputy Sheriff, and a Maryville Public Safety Officer.  He then spent 20 years with the U.S. Homeland Security Department in the Protective Service division.

He was a member and attended St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, was a member of the former Skidmore American Legion Post and the VFW, in Maryville. 

On August 8, 1970, Danny was united in marriage to Linda S. Baumli, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, in Maryville, MO.  She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his 4 children, Kelli (James) Graham, Skidmore,  MO, Alex Estes, Liberty, MO, Larinda (Matt) Hlavacek, Liberty, MO, and Dana (Philip) Maher, Liberty, MO; his mother and step father, Maxine and Donnis Wray, Parnell, MO; his siblings, twin brother Lanny (Darla) Estes, Maryville, MO, Terry (Maureen) Warren, Scottsdale, AZ, and Jr. Wray, Parnell, MO; six grandchildren, James and Ava Graham, Nina, Hayden, and Vivian, and Colton Hlavacek

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, on Friday, January 13, 2017, at the St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Maryville, MO.  Cremation will follow the Mass.

Parish and family Rosary will be at 6:00 PM, on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at St. Gregory’s. The family will receive friends following the Rosary until 8:00 PM. 

Inurnment will be later in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Maryville, MO.

Services are under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.

Estes, Hazel June - Hazel June Estes, 92, Maryville, MO died Saturday, February 11, 2017, at SSM Health St. Francis Hospital.

She was born June 30, 1924 in Braddyville, IA, the daughter of James Virgil and Stella Vesta Wilson VanFosson.

Hazel was a graduate of Elmo, MO High School and was baptised at the Elmo Christian Church. She was a retired telephone operator with United Telephone Company.

Preceding Hazel in death were her parents and brothers: Glen, Raymond, Arthur and Marvin VanFosson.

Foster, Kathleen Marie Pope - Kathleen Marie Foster, 91, Maryville, Missouri died Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Oak Pointe Assisted Living and Memory Care in Maryville.

She was born December 15, 1925 in Maryville to Vilas Earl and Marie Sturm Pope. Kathleen was a 1943 graduate of Maryville High School and then attended college. Kathleen and Gerald Gene Foster were married October 16, 1948 in Maryville.

She was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary and was a Red Cross Volunteer.

Preceding Kathleen in death were her husband Gerald Gene Foster (February 25, 2010), sons Patrick Foster and John Foster, brother Robert Pope and sister, Mary Lou Wilmes.

Kathleen is survived by daughters, Gerry (Jerry) Wagner, Bethany, MO and Rosie (John) Archer, Maryville, brother, Richard (Donna) Pope, Pickering, MO, sister, Ruth Ann (Don) Stoll, Stanberry, MO, 5 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Garnett, Terry Eugene -

Terry Eugene Garnett, 64, of Maryville, MO passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at North Care Hospice at North Kansas City Hospital with his family at his side.

Terry was born on February 20, 1952, in Elkhart, KS, his parents were Lewis Henderson and June Marlene (Garnett) Sowards. He was preceded in death by his father.

Terry married Marjorie Irene Smith on February 9, 1979, in Savannah, MO. Terry and Marjorie have been residents of Maryville, MO for the last thirty-eight years.

Terry retired after working for over twenty years at Nelson's Plumbing, Maryville. Before working at Nelson's, he worked as a diesel mechanic and owned his own diesel shop in Maryville. Terry was actively involved in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a classic car enthusiast where he enjoyed showing his 1948 Plymouth Coupe. Terry also enjoyed spending time with his nine grandchildren.

Survivors include Terry's wife, Marjorie Garnett; his four children, Carrie (Moussa) Diallo, and grandchildren Aisha, Malik, and Mariam, Kansas City, MO; Shane Garnett and girlfriend Makaya Geagley, and grandchildren Ryan, Breonna, Shyanne, Shane Jr, and Jasmine, Hopkins, MO; Derrick Garnett, and granddaughter Audrey, Maryville, MO; and Stacey Garnett and fiancée Drew Leapley, Kansas City, MO; his mother, June Sowards, Barnard, MO and his mother-in-law Donna Smith, Maryville, MO; his siblings, Janice Sowards, St. Joseph, MO; Lewis (Patricia) Sowards Jr, Maryville, MO; Keith (Sheila) Sowards, Barnard, MO; Betty (David) Ramseier, St. Joseph, MO; eight nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog Bentley Rae.

Gorman, Archie Foubert - Archie Foubert Gorman, 89, Skidmore, Missouri died Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Missouri.

He was born May 19, 1927 in Craig, Missouri, the son of Bowen Ford and Mattie Foubert Gorman. He was a graduate of Skidmore, MO High School and was a ranch hand.

Archie served his country in the army during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bowen Ford Gorman JR.

Archie is survived by his sister, Eugenia Hickerson, Parkville, MO, nieces Victoria Lynn Crandell, Kansas City, MO and Sherry Evans, Parkville, MO, nephew Mike Gorman, Kamiah, Idaho and several great nieces and nephews.

Gray, Alice Louise McGinnis - Alice Louise (McGinnis) Gray of Springfield, Missouri formerly of Maryville, Missouri went to her eternal home on February 28, 2017, her 92nd birthday, to celebrate with her devoted husband; Quentin Gray who preceded her In death. She was surrounded by her devoted family by her side at James River Skilled and Rehabilitation Center in Springfield, Missouri.

Alice was born on February 28, 1925 to James and Grace McGinnis who preceded her in death. She
started her life on a small farm southwest of Maryville. She was one of many siblings.

Stories of school days at Swallow, the one room school house, always Included the walks to school in the snow and the rides on her favorite pony. She continued her education graduating from Maryville High and going on to further her education at Northwest State Teachers College, now known as Northwest Missouri State University. Gaining a teacher certificate, she taught at Olwell School.

Alice married Quentin Gray on December 16, 1944. Together they had two children, Linda (Gray)
Garvin, Springfield, Missouri and Gloria (Gray) Akly, Marietta Georgia. As a dedicated mother, Alice was always at home to care for her family. She would lend a helping hand or ear, care for a wound or just be a playmate to her daughters and their friends.

Alice became active In the PTA at the local, as well as, the district level as her children became school age. Home room mother was another attribute. Alice served as a Girl Scout leader for each daughter's troop. She was elected president of the Girl Scout Association in 1959.

Her accomplishments did not stop there. Alice served as president of the 20th Century Club, The Mutual Improvement Club and The Soroptimlst Club of Maryville. She headed many committees within the Methodist Church. Alice did volunteer work for the Red Cross for over twenty-five years serving in many capacities. She delivered Meals on Wheels for the elderly.

With all these accomplishments, Alice was elected Outstanding Woman of the Year In 1960. No one was more dedicated as she held or served on a total of fifteen offices, positions or committees.

Alice could find time for her family and grandchildren. One could often hear one of the grandchildren
say "play cards". Known as Grandma or Bobby, she was right there for them.

When asked what she enjoyed, her reply was always: "Family, grandchildren, great grandchildren,
friends and time for some bridge." She always put everyone above herself.

Preceding her in death were her parents, James and Grace McGinnis, sisters, Mary Jane Thompson
Madden and Grace Lee New, brothers, Glen McGinnis and Denton McGinnis, Half Sisters, Roma Stark and Thelma Wilson and a Half Brother Merrill McGinnis.

Alice is survived two daughters, Linda (Gray) Garvin and husband David, Springfield, Missouri and Gloria (Gray) Akly and husband Tony, Marietta, Georiga. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Heather(Garvin) Womack and husband Tate, Hillary Garvin, Ryan and Jonathan Akly and two greatgrandchildren, Hayden and Kyndall Womack.

Visitation will be at 10:00 AM Friday, March 3rd at the First United Methodist Church followed by the funeral service at 11:00. Burial will at the Miriam Cemetery.


Hartman, Robert Edwin - Robert Edwin Hartman, 86, Maryville, Missouri died Saturday, December 17, 2016, at Village Care Center.

He was born October 15, 1930 in Barnard, Missouri, the son of Charles Edward and Mildred Lucille (Armstrong) Hartman. On July 29, 1953, Bob and Donna Lucille Ingels were married in Maryville.

A 1948 graduate of Horace Mann High School, Maryville, Bob then served his country in the U S Army during the years 1954 and 1955, with the rank of Sgt.

He was a rural mail carrier for 40 years as an employee of the U S Postal Service. Bob was a member of the Maryville First Christian Church and James Edward Gray American Legion Post #100.

Bob's love was baseball and he spent several years actively coaching youth baseball at all levels, coaching everyone from 9 to 18 years old.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents, brother John Hartman and sister Margaret Baker.

He is survived by his wife Donna, of their home in Maryville, son Steve (Sherry) Hartman, Drexel, MO, grandchildren Jamie (Bill) Gorrell, Marshall, MO and Joe Hartman, Drexel, MO, sisters Doris Neal, Maryville and Marjorie Gryka of Arcadia, CA., brother, Jim Hartman. Maryville and 6 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 20th from 5-7 PM at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Donna will be available to meet with friends on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Vincent W. Henggeler, 91, of Stanberry, MO, passed from this life on January 10, 2017, at his home near Stanberry, with his family at his side.

Vincent was born on July 3, 1925, in Clyde, MO.  His parents were Joseph C. and Mary Catherine (Runde) Henggeler.  He lived all his life in the area.

He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.

Preceding him in death were his parents; 2 sons, Stephen and Donald Henggeler, brothers, Francis Henggeler, Eugene Henggeler, Maurus Henggeler; sisters, Mercedes Lager,  Rita and Rose Marie Henggeler; infant twin brothers; his brother in laws, Hank Behm, and Harold Lager; and grandson, Patrick Vincent Henggeler.

He was a member and attended St. Columba Catholic Church, the Tri-C American Legion Post 464, and the Knights of Columbus, Council 1931, all of Conception Junction, MO.  Vincent was a farmer.

On October 10, 1953, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Conception, MO, Vincent was united in marriage to Anna Agatha McQuinn, she survives of the home.

Heywood, Orval Nicholas - Orval Nicholas Heywood, 96, of Maryville, died January 27th, 2017 at Liberty Health & Wellness Center, Liberty, MO.

He was born October 15th, 1920 in Scribner, NE the son of Bernard and Sophie (Weiman) Heywood. He married Thelma Jean (Jeannie) Carpenter on Dec 12th, 1941 in Papillion, NE. She passed on January 1st, 2007.

Orval served in the US Army Air Corp as a Staff Sergeant in WW II and was honorably discharged in March of 1946.

He began his photography career with Walt Studios traveling doing school pictures. Later he opened a studio on the Maryville square. He enjoyed many years taking pictures for NWMS, school photos, weddings, and local events.

In March of 1962 he joined Maryville Host Lions Club. He served as District Governor, Club Secretary, and was awarded Lion of the year in 1995-96 and then International President’s Leadership Medal in 2010. That year they changed the club’s Annual Golf Tournament to Maryville Host Annual Orval Heywood Golf Tournament in his honor. He was also a long time member of the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation Board of Directors and collected over $22,000 in his “Penny Jug” for them. He was an avid golfer and attributes his long life to the game of golf. One year he played over 200 rounds and at 94 years old shot a 39 on nine holes. He was a great supporter of Mozingo Golf course and donated to the new Tom Watson junior pitching and putting area. He felt it was a great opportunity to pass along a lifetime sport to kids of all ages.

Orval is survived by his sister Bernadine Zivonovic, his sister in-law, Jeanie Heywood, his son James (JB) Heywood, his granddaughters Jewel Callahan (Terry) and Jacqueline Kodas (Todd). He also leaves his 6 great-grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma Jean, his 4 brothers Dr. Leo, Herbert, Clarence and George Heywood and his grandson James (Jamie) Nicholes Heywood.

Baylee was born February 9, 2000 in St. Joseph, MO to Grady and Lisa (Schank) Hilsabeck.

She was a Junior at South Nodaway High School, where she was a member of the Scholar Bowl, and active in basketball, and track, as well as being a cheerleader. Baylee belonged to the Barnard Christian Church.

Preceding her in death were her paternal grandparents Ed and Rita Hilsabeck and her Uncle Kevin Bauman.

Joyce E. Icke, 73, of Barnard, MO, passed from this life on
Saturday, January 14, 2017, at the Mosiac Life Care in St. Joseph, MO.

Joyce was born in Maryville, MO, to William L. and Alma
(Lockhart) Brownfield, on January 30, 1943.

She was a member of the Barnard Christian Church, Barnard,
MO, and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend,
and always putting others before herself.

She was a hardworking and dedicated employee at Union
Carbide, later Energizer, Maryville, for 30 years, retiring in 2009. She lived
all her life in the area.

Preceded her in death were her parents, a brother, William
E. Brownfield, a sister, Shirley Cloud, and her husband of 28 years, Vancil
Icke.

Joyce is survived by her son and daughter in law, Mark and
Joy Beattie, Barnard, MO, her daughter, Melinda L. Dennis, Maryville, MO; five
grandchildren, Alyssa, Rachelle and Matthew Beattie, Kameron (Drew) DeMott and
Schylar (Cory) Cronk; 3 step grandchildren, Adam, Aaron and Megan Dennis; sister,

Linville, Dorothy Jewell - Dorothy Jewell Linville, 87, of Burlington Junction, MO, passed away on Friday, January 20, 2017, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville.

She was born in Skidmore, MO, on September 19, 1929, to Lee Roy Murphy and Sylvia Mae (Long) Murphy. They preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her husband Stanley, on August 6, 2000, and her sisters, Edith Irene Sportsman, Ann (Harris) Wyrick, Lois Jean Linville, and Letha Mae Reed, her grandson Lee Joseph Linville, and great grandson Tucker Monroe Conard.

She was married to Stanley Freeman Linville, on August 19, 1947, at Nodaway County Courthouse in Maryville, MO. She lived all her life in the area, and was a farm wife and raised her children.

Her memberships included the LLL Club, Quitman, MO, and the Burlington Junction United Methodist Church.

Maier, Wilbur "Pat" - Mr Wilbur J. (Pat) Maier, 75, of New Market, died Wednesday afternoon at Municipal Hospital. Funeral services will be held this Saturday at 2 pm at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda with Jon Palmquist officiating.

Mr Maier had been a resident of Bethesda Care Center for a month before going to the hospital.

He was born Oct 12, 1906, near Clearmont, Mo, the son of Joseph and Ada Griffey Maier and had lived in the Clearmont area before moving to New Market.

Survivors include three sisters, Velma Day and Mrs Everett (Beulah) West of Clearmont and Mrs Marvin (LouElla) Plummer of Glenwood, brothers Charles of Omaha and Hubert of Brighton, Co, and several nieces and nephews.

McSorley, Aidan, O.S.B., Fr - Fr. Aidan McSorley O.S.B., 75 of Conception, Missouri died on Monday, February 20, 2017, at Cameron Regional Medical Center in Cameron, Missouri.

He was born July 9, 1941 in Kansas City, Kansas to Frank William and Helen (Bergman) McSorley. They preceded him in death.

Fr. Aidan was a graduate of Conception Seminary College and was professed as a monk September 1, 1962. On November 28, 1969, Fr. Aidan was ordained as a priest. He was a rare book librarian.

He is survived by his monastic community and one sister, Helen O'Connor of Riverview, FL.

Helen was born June 7, 1922, in Oxford, Missouri, the daughter of the late Jesse and Delores (Anderson) McCrery. She married Lloyd Curtis Messner August 7, 1940 in Clarinda, Iowa.

She was a 1939 graduate of Parnell High School, was a homemaker and a retired Deputy Recorder of Nodaway County. Helen attended the
Ravenwood Christian Church.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd Messner (September 8, 1997) and son-in-law Jerry Fugate (October 12, 2015).

Mildred Lucille “Millie” Meyer, 88, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Conception Junction, MO, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at the Parkdale Manor Care Center, Maryville.

Millie was born on March 29, 1928, in Clyde, MO, to Peter Leo and Agatha (Wolfer) Meyer.  They preceded her in death; as did her husband, Donald William Meyer, grandson, Lee Joseph Linville, great grandson, Tucker Monroe Conard, sisters, Catherine Nielson, Frances Nielson, and Marie Funderburk, and brothers, Paul Meyer, and Ernest Meyer.

Millie was a homemaker and spent all her life in the area.  She was a member and attended St. Columba Catholic Church, the St. Ann’s Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary Post 464 Conception Junction, MO, all of Conception Junction, MO, and the Crazy Quilters Club, Maryville.

On June 24, 1947, at the Immaculate Conception Abbey in Conception, MO, she was united in marriage to Donald Willliam Meyer, he passed away on March 11, 2010.

She is survived by her children, Bill (Sue) Meyer, Platte City, MO, Steve (Ramona) Meyer, Raytown, MO, David (Chris) Meyer, Missouri Valley, IA, Dan Meyer, and Nancy Lyle, Grant City, MO, Martin (Janet) Meyer, Leavenworth, KS, and Donna (Russ) Linville, Burlington Junction, MO; 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and one to be born; sister Dorothy Wilmes, Bolckow, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Miller, Byron N. Jr - Byron N. Miller, Jr., 84, of Ravenwood, MO, passed away surrounded by his family on March 5, 2017, at Mosaic Life Care, St. Joseph, MO.

Byron was born in Ravenwood, MO, on August 29, 1932.  His parents were Byron, Sr, and Zella Miller.

He was a graduate of Northeast Nodaway R-V in 1951, and later received his Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Northwest Missouri State University.

He married Marlene Miller on June 8, 1952, and they were married for 64 years.  Together they had 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Byron was a man of many trades. He retired as an elementary school principal at Northeast Nodaway after 30 years.  He was also a farmer and cattleman.  He was involved in the American Legion, Lions Club, 4-H, and the Beekeeper Club.  Byron had many hobbies and spent his free time enjoying bee keeping, playing tricks and riddles, knife and coin collecting.

Byron was preceeded in death by his grandparents, parents, sister Gwynetha, wife, Marlene, and daughter Julie Lynn.

He is survived by his 2 sons, Daniel of Ravenwood, and his children, Carl and wife Karen, of Ravenwood, and their children, Brea, Justin, Colton, Summer, and Cynthia.  His daughter, Jennifer and husband Billy Ritchie, of Grand Junction, IA, and their children, Lane and Alexis.  His son, David and wife Irma of Ravenwood, MO, and their children, Kyle of Ravenwood, MO, and his son Brayden.  Daughter Kateline, of Ravenwood, and his beloved dog, Peanut Butter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the Ravenwood Methodist Church, Ravenwood, MO.  The burial will follow at the Oak Lawn Cemetery, also of Ravenwood.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM, on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville. MO

 

Moran, Maxine Elizabeth Wilmes - Maxine Elizabeth Moran, 96, Maryville, Missouri died Friday, December 30, 2016, at Nodaway Nursing Home.

She was born April 6, 1920 in Maryville, the daughter of Frank Herman and Emma Jane Breedlove Wilmes. She and Bernard Joseph Moran were married September 22, 1954 in Maryville.

A 1938 graduate of Maryville High School, she attended Hagee Beauty School and received her degree and then worked for Della's Style Shop in Maryville.

Maxine was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Maryville and also Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, St. Theresa Circle and St. Gregory Guild.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard Joseph Moran (March 30, 2002); parents; sister Emma Dee Carroll; 3 brothers, William J, Frank and Robert Joseph Wilmes; 3 nephews John Douglas Summa, Victor Wilmes and Rick Wilmes and niece Stacey Clay.

Surviving her are sister; Virginia Summa, Maryville, and nieces and nephews: Becky Sullivan, Jim Wilson, Valerie Riddle, David Carroll, Joni Nelson, Janie England, Barbara Nielson, Gina Mackey, Joe Carroll and Kevin Summa.

A Parish Rosary will be held at 5:00 PM Sunday, January 1st at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. It will be followed by a visitation from 5:30-7:00 PM.

Morin, George Everett - George Everett Morin, 90 of Ravenwood, Missouri died on Friday, January 13, 2017, at Village Care Center, Maryville, Missouri.

Everett was born August 16, 1926, the son of the late Leslie Everett and Margaret Mennetta (Moser) "Bobbi" Morin. He married Patsy Faye Casteel on June 30, 1946 in Ravenwood.

He was a 1944 graduate of Ravenwood High School and spent his lifetime farming in the Ravenwood community. A veteran, Everett served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Everett was a member of the Ravenwood United Methodist Church and the Nodaway Masonic Lodge #470 AF and AM.

Everett was preceded in death by his wife Patsy (January10, 1992), his parents, and sister Carol Rogers.

Surviving are sons, Ronald (Carol) Morin and Mark (Vicki) Morin, Ravenwood, MO, daughter, Cheryl (Ron) Rucker, Quinlan, TX, brother Richard D. Nicholson, Irma Dean O'Dougherty - Irma Dean Nicholson died Friday, Febuary 3, 2017 at the Parkdale Manor Care Center, Maryville, MO, at 89 years old.

She was born July 28, 1927 in Taylor County, Iowa, the daughter of Stewart O'Doughtery and Vesta (Kivett) O'Doughtery. She was a 1945 graduate of Hopkins High School.

Irma married Hobart W. Nicholson July 4, 1947 at the Hopkins Methodist Church.

Preceding in death were her parents, husband Hobart (April 29, 2006), brother Robert O'Dougherty, sister Pat Blanchard and granddaughter Wendy Aring.

She is survived by three children, Stephen (Mary) Nicholson, Warrensburg, MO, Elizabeth Roush, Louisville, KY and Kirk (Karen) Nicholson, Ravenwood, MO, four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 PM Monday, February 6, 2017, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:30 PM, at Price Funeral Home.

Following the service burial will be at the Hopkins Cemetery.

Ogle, Michael John Raymond - Michael John Raymond Ogle, 22, Ravenwood, MO died Saturday, January 14, 2017.

He was born November 21, 1994, in Maryville, MO and was a 2013 graduate of Northeast Nodaway High School, where he was active in basketball and softball and participated in many academic challenges, including Science Olympiad and Chemathon and Future Farmers of America.

He was a member of the Sheridan MO Christian Church, Eagle Scouts with Troop #131, Parnell and Tribe of Mic-O-Say as "Keeper of the Sacred Bundle", Little Dark Mustang.

Michael currently was employed with Federal Mogul, John Deere Assembly. He had also worked for Wilmes Tire and Orscheln, all in Maryville and H & H Trailers, Clarinda, IA.

Michael was preceded in death by his step-sister Ashley Nicole Price, uncle Joe Price, paternal grandparents John and Phyllis Price and great-grandparents Perry and Rosella Lewis; maternal great-grandpa John Paul Ogle, Great-grandparents Wayne and Phyllis Cox, aunt Tammy Ogle, and God-parents Ray and Mae Forsythe.

Surviving Michael are his parents James K. and Tracie M. Price, Parnell, grandparents Bill and Nancy Ogle, Clearmont, great-grandmother Mary Ogle, Bedford, IA; siblings: Shanon (Josh) Cook, Burlington Jct., Stephanie Price, Maverick Price and Samantha Price, all of Parnell, and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Owens, Orel Loland - Orel Loland (Ed) Owens Jr, 82, St Joseph, Missouri died Saturday, January 21, 2017, at his home in St. Joseph.

He was born November 19, 1934 in Logan, Kansas, the son of Orel and Goldie Sanford Owens.

He was a 1954 graduate of Logan Public Schools and attended college in California. During the 1950's Ed was an amateur baseball player for the Kansas City Blues.

Ed proudly served his country aboard a carrier with the U.S. Navy Aviation Fighter Squadron Twenty Four, NAS, Alameda, CA. After his military service he went to work for the Lockheed Missile Program, where he worked on the electrical re-entry system for the Minuteman Missile and the Apollo. After being laid off, he worked in construction for a time before moving to Oregon. He worked as a deputy sheriff and City Police Detective in Lake Oswego, Oregon and installed many 911 systems in the Portland, Oregon area throughout his 30 years of service.

On November 7, 1980, Ed married Diane Lee Swanson in Portland, Oregon. She preceded him in death on June 26, 2010.

On May 17, 2013, Ed married Mary Louise Noel, in Maryville, Missouri. They made their home in St. Joseph.

He was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Maryville.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Diane, son, Robert Duane Owens and brother, Theron K. "Pep" Owens.

Surviving him are wife, Mary Noel Owens, of their home in St. Joseph, four step-children: Donna Jean (Robert) Stromer, Fairview, Oregon, Julie Noel, St. Joseph, Christie (Jason) Ebersole, Florissant, MO and Melanie (Brian) Noel, Savannah, MO, five grandchildren: Autumn Stromer, Portland, OR and Robert Stromer III, Vancouver, WA, Charles Ebersole, Florissant, MO and Malia and Alexa Noel, Savannah, MO, brother, Boyce Eugene "Pete" Owens and wife Antonia "Toni", Groveland, CA.sister-in-law Dolly Owens and three nephews.

Riley, Gene Douglas - Gene Douglas "Doug" Riley, 64, Maryville, MO died Wednesday, February 15, 2017, at Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville.

Doug was born June 3, 1952 in Keytesville, MO, to Charles Richard and Betty Bruner Riley. They preceded him in death.

A graduate of Parkview High School in Springfield, MO he then continued his education, graduating in 1970, with a BA in Art, from Missouri State University, Springfield.

After graduation Doug moved to New York City, where he resided for many years. While there he always was an artist, who also ventured into the business world, working for Gentleman's Quarterly, and as the Manager of Common Ground, a jewelry store in New York City. He had resided in Maryville the past few years.

Doug is survived by his brother Larry Riley, Maryville; step-mother June Riley Higgins, Springfield; step-brothers Rick (Debbie)Barnhouse, Eagle Rock, MO; Jeff (Rhonda) Barnhouse, Greenfield, MO; step-sister Dagny (Mike) Ogle, Springfield, MO; aunt Vivian Delapp, Kansas City, several cousins and a host of friends.

Schluter, Rick Duane - Rick Duane Schluter, 48, Maryville, M0 died Sunday, February 5, 2017, at SSM Health St. Francis in Maryville.

He was born December 11, 1968 in Maryville to Raymond Harold and Betty Lou (Rahe) Schluter.

A graduate of Maryville High School, Rick also attended Northwest Missouri State University for two years. He had worked as a carpenter.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Alan Schluter and sister, Gloria Lowrance.

Schulte, Robert Eugene - Robert Eugene Schulte, 86, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at the Parkdale Manor Care Center in Maryville. He was in the company of his two children when he died.

Robert was born August 29, 1930, in Maryville. His parents were Roy Schulte and Clara (Stiens) Schulte. They preceded him in death.

He lived most of his life on a farm east of Maryville, and was a self-employed farmer. He was proud that his farm, "Mozingo Green Acres", later became part of Mozingo Lake.

Mr. Schulte was of the Catholic faith. His memberships included St. Gregorys Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the youth and church choir at the church, also the 4-H Club. He also sang and played the guitar.

He was a graduate of Horace Mann High School. He also helped establish the Vo-Tech School in Maryville.

He married Carol "Charlene" (Stoll), on May 8, 1954. She passed away on October 3, 2005, after 51 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Taylor, and husband Charles Taylor, sister Mary Jane (Hunold) Strah, his 2 brother in laws Arthur Hunold, and George Strah.

His survivors included his 2 children, Greg Schulte, and Carla (Steve) Daniels, both of Maryville. 5 grandchildren: Zane (Rachyl) Schulte of Highland Ranch, CO, Nikkayla Schulte of Maryville, Christopher Pitts of Independence, MO, Bryan Pitts (girl friend, Jessica Farrell) of Maryville, and Kolby Jenkins of Maryville. 7 great grandchildren: Kinley DeMott, Connor Schulte, Cheyenne Pitts, Benton Pitts, Chase Pitts, Braxtyn Pitts, Ellie Brendle. His siblings, John (Irene) Schulte of Maryville, Nancy (Tom) Townsend of Maryville, and Patricia (Ed) Cook, Monroe, MI; sister in laws, Vera Mamie Kansas City, MO, Rosalee Merrigan, Maryville, and Mary Jo Durbin, Lewistown, MT. Severson, ZoAnn Holt -

ZoAnn Severson, 78, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017, at the Palms of Pasadena Hospital, in St. Petersburg, FL. 

ZoAnn was born in Maryville, MO, on May 18, 1938.  Her parents were Randolph C. and Izora (Swaney) Holt.  She lived in Maryville and in the 9th grade the family started spending winters in Florida.  She graduated from the Clearwater Florida High School in 1956. 

In 1958, she graduated from the Christian College, Columbia, MO.  In 1960, she received her B.S. in Education from Northwest Missouri Teacher College, now NWMSU.   

ZoAnn taught English at Lafayette High in St. Joseph, MO, then at the Maryville Junior High.  She later taught Physical Education at St. Gregory’s School, Maryville.  She was also a partner with her husband, Robert in the Maryville Shoe Store.

She was a member and attended the First Christian Church, Maryville.  She was a member of PEO, Chapter L, the Maryville Country Club, NWMSU Booster Club, and the Tri-Sigma Sorority Alums, all of Maryville.  She loved golfing, playing bridge, watching her grandsons in their sports, and traveling with the swim team when her children participated. She liked and attended Bearcat sport events, especially football. 

ZoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and sister in law, James R. and Carolyn Holt, and her daughter, Shawna Zech, in 2003.

In 1959, at the First Christian Church in Maryville, ZoAnn was united in marriage to Robert D. Severson, and he survives of the home in Maryville. 

Other survivors include her daughter, Stacy Madhu, St. Petersburg Beach, FL, 2 grandsons, Andrew Madhu, Sunnyvale, CA, and Alex Madhu, Kansas City, MO, her son in law, Mike Zech, Maryville, 3 step grandchildren, Laura (Shawn) Graybil, Kansas City, MO, Erin (Jeremy) Nally, Bedford, IA, and Dan (Chelsi) Zech, Lenox, IA, 7 step grandchildren;  nieces and nephews, Jan (Erik) Akerblem, W. Orange, NJ, Cherlyn (Jonny) Niles, Long Branch, NJ, Adam (Elizabeth) McRoberts, Altoona, IA, Meredith (Richie) McRoberts, Altoona, IA, Paul (Debra) Rettenmaier, and Keli Glover, both of Kansas City, MO; 2 sister in laws, Marcie (Dave) Rettenmaier, Kansas City, MO, and Mari Beth McRoberts, Altoona, IA, and several cousins and a host of friends.

ZoAnn’s body has been cremated.  Her memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at the First Christian Church, Maryville, MO.  The inurnment will be held privately at a later date

 

Sharr, Ova Manford - Ova Manford Sharr, 85, Maryville, MO died Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Pineview Manor, Inc. in Stanberry, Missouri.

He was born August 11, 1931 in Maryville, the son John Austin and Elsie Groves Sharr. Ova was a 1950 graduate of Burlington Junction High School, and was the owner and operator of Sharr Garage in Maryville.

Ova served his country during the Korean War, with the United States Navy. He belonged to the Tri-C American Legion Post #464 in Conception Jct., MO.

Preceding him in death were his parents, son John Sharr, brother Wilmer Sharr and sister Burl Tise.

Ova is survived by his daughter daughter, Kandie (Gary) Lager, Clyde, MO, sons Jerry (Christina) Sharr, Maryville and Raymond (Shelli) Sharr Mountain Grove, MO, 6 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and sister, Madge Horn, Maryville.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 18th at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. It will be followed by inurnment at Orrsburg Cemetery, Parnell, MO.

Shimak, Howard Eugene - Howard Eugene Shimak, 68, Graham, Missouri died Friday, December 16, 2016, at K U Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Born March 4, 1948 in Maryville, Missouri, he was the son of Stanley Howard and Clella Irene Latta Shimak, who preceded him in death.

Howard was a graduate of Platte, South Dakota High School and was a Vietnam veteran, having served his country in the US Air Force from 1966-1970. He and Joyce (Jan) Janelle Wallace were married January 14, 1972, in Maryville.

He worked as an electrician for Laclede Chain Manufacturing Company in Maryville.

Howard is survived by his wife, Jan Shimak, of the home in Graham; two sons, Loren Dean (Rochelle) Shimak, Burlington Junction, Missouri and Keith Allen Shimak, Maryville; two grandchildren, Justin Keith Shimak, Maryville and Auburn Leigh Shimak, Burlington Jct.; brother Richard Dale (Linda) Latta, Maitland, Missouri, sister, Linda Lou Law, Graham, and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5-7 PM Monday, December 19, 2016, at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Snodderly, D.W., Mrs - Mrs D.W. Snodderly, 63 years of age, died at 6:40 o'clock this morning at a hospital in St Joseph, following an illness of several weeks.

She was born October 11, 1877, in Bates county, Mo., and moved to Clearmont in 1900. She was married January 8, 1903, to Daniel W. Snodderly and since that time had lived in the Maryville and Clearmont communities until October of 1940.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs Jessie Tiffeny, St Joseph, and Mrs Dorothea Price, Dawn, Mo.; two brothers, Fred Robison, Pawnee City, Neb., and Will Robison, Des Moines, Ia, and one grandson, Ronald Leon Tiffeny of St Joseph.

The wife of D.W. Snodderly, who lives east of Clearmont four miles, was suddenly killed by the accidental discharge of a shot gun. She was struck by the shot in the region of the heart, and died almost instantly. She was aged 37 years. Burial took place at Hazel Dell cemetery.

 

Walker, Charles Edward - Charles Edward "Ed" Walker, 80 of Maryville, Missouri died on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at Autumn House, Maryville, Missouri.

Edward was born August 3, 1936 to Charles W. and Mary E. (Jobe) Walker in Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Ed was a graduate of Lafayette High School St. Joseph, MO and was employed by Blish-Mize Company of Atchison , KS and Parks and Recreation of St. Joseph, before retirement.

A veteran, Ed served his country in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic.

Surviving are daughter Terri Harden Hurtado and grandson Anthony Hurtado both of Lawrence, KS., son Don Harden, and daughter Sharon Hurst.

Watson, Rachel Emaline Burch - Mrs Rachel Emaline Watson, age 87, a former resident of the Clearmont vicinity, died at 5:45 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Armstrong nursing home in Maryville where she had lived six years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Clearmont Methodist church with the Rev S.F. Walters, pastor, in charge. Burial will be at Clearmont.

Vocal music will be furnished by John Hood of Maryville, who will be accompanied by Mrs Glen McMasters.

Mrs Watson was born Nov 6, 1869 at Bloomington, Ind., the daughter of Abner and Stacey Burch. She came with her parents to Nodaway county when 6 years old, settling northwest of Clearmont.

Mrs Watson was born Nov 6, 1861 [sic, should say married Mar 27, 1889], at the family home near Clearmont to W.D. Watson who died June 4, 1939. Mrs Watson was a member of the Clearmont Baptist church.

She was born July 6, 1929, in Corning, Iowa to Daniel and Florence (Fecht) Sullivan.

Mary Pat and Lewis Wermelskirchen were married April 20, 1970 in Miami, OK.

She was a member of St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Maryville. Mary Pat had worked as a nurse aide for both the old and the new St. Francis Hospital, serving them for 18 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Lewis Wermelskirchen (July 3, 2002), infant daughter Mary Elizabeth, son Larry Chapasko, granddaughter Julia Lynn Rankin, grandson Daniel Chapasko, brothers Charles and Bernard Sullivan, and sister Helen Fensen.

Mary Pat is survived by her daughter Charlotte (Robert) Dunn, Maryville, son DanChapasko, Loveland, CO and daughter Debbi (Kevin) Rankin, Maryville; 3 grandchildren Trina (T.J.) Phillips, Clarinda, IA, Devin (Travis) Reed and Bradley Rankin, both of Maryville; 3 great-grandchildren Cooper and Griffin Phillips and Emma Reed; brother Dan Sullivan, Omaha, NE and sister Betty Brietenfeldt, Prosser, WA.

Visitation will be 10-11 AM, Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.

Burial will be at Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville

 

Wilmes, Joyce Kay Roper - Joyce Kay Wilmes, 70, Maryville, MO, died Saturday, February 18, 2017, at her home in Maryville, Missouri.

She was born September 4, 1946 in Junction City, Kansas, to Wesley Carroll Roper and Gladys Leona Luckenbaugh Roper.

Joyce was a graduate of Plattsburg, MO High School. On April 24, 1982 she married Earl Edward Wilmes in Buffalo, Missouri.

A member of the Laura Street Baptist Church, Joyce was a volunteer with SSM Hospice and also drove for the Division of Aging. She was always involved with and loved all of her grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Lee Roper.

She is survived by her husband, Earl Wilmes, children, Stacy Wilmes, Conception Junction, MO, Carissa (Mike) Davis, Maryville, and Eric (Jessie) Herrod, Savannah, MO, 16 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and cousin, Roger Lee Schwab, Manhattan, KS.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, February 22nd, at Laura Street Baptist Church

Joyce will be buried at the Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln, Missouri.

Wilmes, Rosalee Helen Brady - Rosalee Helen Wilmes, 91, of Maryville, MO, died Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Oak Pointe Assisted Living and Memory Care in Maryville.

She was born March 5, 1925 in Guilford, MO to John Emmett and Margaret Gertrude (Cocoran) Brady and was a graduate of Conception, MO High School.

On November 13, 1947, Rosalee and Marion Francis Wilmes were married in Conception.

A homemaker, she was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church and St. Gerard's Guild in Maryville.

Rosalee was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marion (June 21, 2006), son-in-law Tom Wesnidge, brothers Robert, Edmund and Donald Brady and sisters Eileen Schieber, Gertrude Schuster, Stella Marie Farnan and Sister Margaret Brady.

She is survived by her children: Janice (Paul) Stieb, Lexington, NE; Rosemary Wesnidge, Fruita, CO; Marlene Wilmes, Elletsville, IN;Kenneth (Donna) Wilmes, Burlington Junction, MO; Kevin (Teresa) Wilmes and Kieran (Patty) Wilmes, Maryville; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Emerita Farnan, Weston, MO.

A Rosary will be 5:00 PM Tuesday, January 17th, followed by visitation 5:30-8:00 PM. at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville.

Mass of Christian Burial is 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 18th, also at St. Gregory Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maryville.

Wolf, Shirley Irene Lymer -

Shirley Irene Wolf, 82, of Barnard, MO, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017, at the Parkdale Manor, Maryville.

Shirley was born on August 13, 1934, near College Springs, IA; her parents were Herbert D. and Bertha I. (Ripley) Lymer, and preceded her in death.  She had lived most all her life in the Barnard/Guilford Missouri area.

She was a graduate of the Guilford High School and had worked at the Maryville and St. Joseph Walmart Stores, in customer service.  Her memberships included Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the Barnard Sorority (BGO), where she served as treasurer.

On December 30, 1956, Shirley was united in marriage to Wilmer Leon Wolf, in Fillmore, MO.  He passed away on October 2, 2004.

Her survivors include her children, Ron Wolf, Kevin (Renee) Wolf, and Rod (Amy) Wolf, all of Barnard, MO; 5 grandchildren, Steven, Nicholas, Kyle, Allie, and Delaney Wolf; 2 great grandchildren, Caitlin and April Wolf; her sisters, Pat (Don) Mink, Alliance, NE, Francis (Eldon) Troth, Graham, MO, Dorothy (Arnold) Hughes, Rosendale, MO, Cheryl (Forrest) Christian, Maitland, MO, Judy Davison, St. Joseph, MO; and her brother, George Lymer, Savannah, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 13, 2017, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryille.  The burial will follow at the Barnard American Legion Cemetery, Barnard, MO.
