Abbott, Marlin David - Marlin David Abbott, 85, of Burlington Junction, MO, passed from this life on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at his home near Burlington Junction.

Marlin was born on February 9, 1931, in Elmo, MO. His parents were Miles W. and Nellie Lea (Stafford) Abbott, and preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his wife, Brigitte in 2009, his daughter, Donna K. Burnham, step daughter, Ruth Feikema, his sister, Elsie Mae Stewart, brother, Miles Stafford Abbott, and sisters Ella Katherine Guenther, and Joyce N. Reynolds.

Marlin worked as a carpenter for many years in the area.

On August 24, 1963, he was united in marriage to Brigitte R. (Lipps) Abbott, in Flint, MI, she passed away in 2009.

He is survived by his children, David L. Abbott, Yankton, SD; Steven D. Abbott, Clarkston, MI; Cheryl D. Sherman, Sears, MI; step children, Michael H. Ramsey, Harrison, MI; Pamela Ramsey, Burlington Junction, MO; and Nancy Spears, Deltona, FL; granddaughter, Anitta Ecker, Elmo, MO; 20 grandchildren, 31, and I on the way, great grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. Burial will follow in the High Prairie Cemetery, Elmo, MO.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Anderson, Jeffrey Scott - Jeffrey Scott Anderson, 46, of Maryville, MO, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Maryville on Sunday, September 25, 2016.

Jeff was born in Des Moines, IA, on May 30, 1970. His parents are Condra Marie (Connie) Ekle Anderson, and Dennis Matthew Anderson.

Jeff lived most all his life in Maryville. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, and his beloved dog, Molly.

Jeff graduated from Maryville High School in 1989, as class president. He attended NWMSU, and was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.

He worked as a agent for the Soil and Water Conservation (NRCS), at the Maryville office. He served the Nodaway, Holt, Atchison, and Worth county areas. He also owned and operated True Wheel Cyclery, in Maryville. Jeff had previously worked at Midland Surveying in Maryville.

He was of the Catholic faith. His memberships included the Missouri Association of Land Surveyors, member of the Relay for Life Steering Committee, and a board member of Maryville Parks and Recreation, and was an avid fly fisherman.

His survivors include his parents, Connie Anderson, Maryville, MO, and Denny (Rita) Anderson, Maryville; his brothers, Patrick Shawn (Jennifer) Anderson, Ft. Collins, CO, and Timothy Shain ( Kristen) Anderson, also of Ft. Collins; his former wife, Suzi Schneider-Anderson; his six nieces and nephews, who he loved and was very proud of, Gunnar Anderson, Rider Anderson, Sophia Anderson, Katie Mundo, Sara Mundo, and Anthony Mundo; numerous cousins, and his beloved pets, Missy and Pickles.

Jeff has been cremated and his memorial service will be at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 1, 2016, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville. Jeff had passions for his rescued dogs, cycling, family and friends. He was well loved and will be greatly missed.

Armentrout, Mark Alan - Mark Alan Armentrout, 56, of Elmo, MO, passed away as a result of a four-wheeler accident on Sunday, November 13, 2016, near Elmo.

Mark was born on October 29, 1960, at the Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha, NE. His parents were Lewis and Cleo “Honey” Armentrout.

He graduated from the Mound City High School, in 1979. Mark lived most of his life in this area. Five years later on January 28, 1984, Mark was united in marriage to Katherine (Kathy) Jane Kretchmer. They were married for 2 short years until they welcomed their first child, Zachery, into their lives.

Mark was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. It had been a struggle for him since the passing of his son Zach back in April. He had a close bond with all of his siblings. He always had a way to make people laugh. He would use his Donald Duck voice, singing Hootie and the Blowfish songs to his grandkids. He liked to be outside.

He had worked for 14 years at Energizer, Maryville, until the plant closed. He was currently with Farmer’s Supply in Burlington Junction, MO. Mark was of the Christian faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Zachery, his brother, Wally Armentrout, his mother and father in law; Don and Dorthy Kretchmer, and his daughter in law, Taylor Green-Sillers.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Kathy, Elmo, MO; children, Christina (Bryan) Marrison, Skidmore, MO, and Chad (Jordon) Sillers, Fairfax, MO; grandchildren, Daniel Myranda, Carsyn and Jetta Green-Sillers, and Cheyann and Ryan Marrison; great grandchild, Damon Ryan ”Bug” Lambert; siblings, Robert (Debbie) Armentrout, Springfield, NE, and Judy Colborn, North Platte, NE; 3 nephews, William Hunting II, Jeff and Jeremy Armentrout.

Beck, Betty Ramona Stoner - Betty Ramona Beck, 87, Maryville, MO, passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at the Village Care center in Maryville. She had been a resident there for several years.

Betty was born November 13, 1929, near Watson, MO. Her parents were Gilbert Oral Stoner, and Minnie Cora (Howard) Stoner. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Jack Stoner.

Betty worked at several jobs in her life, mainly in the restaurant business. She also attended college for one summer and taught school.

She married Frank John Beck, in Auburn, NE. For 22 years of their marriage the couple resided in Graham, MO.

Betty was an avid doll collector. At one time she had a collection of 3,000 dolls. All of the dolls have been sold except her first doll that her husband Frank, gave her.

Her survivors include, her husband Frank of Maryville, her daughter Kathy (Hank) Finthrock, of New Mexico, her sister, Esther Devault, of Graham, MO, and a brother, Euell Gordon Stoner of Bella Vista, Arkansas, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Bilby, John S., III - John S. Bilby III, age 63, of Bridgeport, died Monday, December 20, 2010, at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado. In keeping with his wishes, his remains were cremated. John was born January 26, 1947, in Marysville, Missouri, to Bobby and Francis F. (Bowness) Bilby. He grew up in a military family and lived and traveled with his parents in numerous locations throughout the United States, but always considered western Nebraska his home. He graduated from Sidney High School with the class of 1965. He married Deanne M. Lif September 21, 1984,at Bridgeport. John was employed by the Nebraska Brand Committee for 36 years.

John was a lifetime member of the Nebraska State Rodeo Association and was a well known rodeo photographer and competitor. He was also a member of the NRA.

Survivors include his wife Deanne Bilby of Bridgeport, his children Justin Bilby of Bridgeport, Jessica Bilby-Morrow of Chadron and Jared Bilby of Bridgeport, his mother Francis F. Bilby of Bridgeport and two brothers Bert Bilby of Chadron and Matthew Bilby of Phillipsburg, KS. His father preceded him in death.

Birkenholz, Alice Jean - Alice Jean Birkenholz, 81, of Maryville, MO, went to the open arms of the Lord on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Parkdale Manor in Maryville.

Alice Jean was born in Maryville, on July 17, 1935. Her parents were Elmer Guy and Mary “Mildred” Ross Mires, and preceded her in death.
She was also preceded by her brother, Richard Mires, her granddaughter, Heather Lynn Emery, and her best friend, Ramona Job.

She lived all her life in the area, and was an LPN at Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, for over 35 years. She was a member and attended the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville.

On April 11, 1954, she was united in marriage to Vilas Earl (Johnny) Birkenholz. To this union was born 3 daughters, Linda, Vicki Lynn and Tanya. They later divorced.

Her survivors include her 3 daughters, Linda (Rick) Emery, Pickering, MO, Vicki Lynn Birkenholz, Maryville, and Tanya Sue (Mark) Wilson, Maryville; her siblings, Marcella (Don) Hayes, Indianola, IA, Elmer (Barbara) Mires, Easton, KS, and Mary Donna (Stanley) Stanton, Maryville; 4 granddaughters, Stephanie (Travis) Dancy, Maryville, Lynette (Jason) Berg, Hopkins, MO, Melissa Strough, Pickering, and Kelsey (Aaron) Noble, Maryville; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great-granddaughters; 3 sister in laws, Sandra Mires, Maryville, Marion Nicholson, Maryville, Althea Bird, Maryville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The daughter of Hamilton Armstrong and Maude (McElroy) Irvine, she was born November 22,1906, in Blanchard, Iowa. On December 9, 1927, in Mound City, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Edson Carter Botkin, Sr., who preceded her in death on April 16, 1951. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Edson Carter Botkin, Jr.; four brothers, John, Francis, Robert and Harry Irvine; one sister, Lola Folden; and three half-brothers, Hamilton, Edward and Thomas Irvine.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lee Hall of Kirksville; a daughter-in-law, Jocelyn N. Botkin of Lee Summit, Missouri; four grandchildren, Belinda (Hall) Lynch and husband, James, Fredericksburg, Virginia, Brian G. Hall, Ann Arbor, Michigan, Melanie (Botkin) Lowe and husband, Pete, Hammontown, New Jersey, and Laura Botkin, Chicago, Illinois; and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Knepper, Perry, Iowa; a brother, James Irvine and wife, Marian, Fairfax; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary was raised in Atchison County, Missouri, and graduated from Daleview High School. After the death of her husband, she returned to college and received her degree from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in 1953. She taught elementary school in North Kansas City, Rock Port, Platte City and Mendon, Missouri, until her retirement in 1972.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church, belonged to Ruth Circle, a member of Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Business and Professional Women and a life member of the Retired Teachers of Missouri. Larry was born in Maysville, MO, on October 23, 1943. His parents were Woodrow and Verda Mae (Danner) Bradshaw. He had lived in Maysville, Stanberry, MO, Maryville, MO, Sheridan, MO, and the past several years in Ravenwood. He graduated from Maryville High School.

Larry was a truck driver all his life, and was presently employed by Meyer Farms, Maitland, MO.

He was a member of Xenia Masonic Lodge #50 AF & AM, Hopkins, MO; the Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Moila Temple Shrine, both of St. Joseph, MO.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia McMillen, his nephew, and 2 great nephews.

She was born August 20, 1917 in Maryville, the daughter Clarence and Grace Fuller Pennington. Clara and Pleas R. "Pete" Bragg were married November 21, 1942 in St. Joseph.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Maryville First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Pete Bragg (August 4, 1987), 3 brothers Herbert and Jack Pennington Jr. and Darroll Boeppler and sister Laura Vorhees.

Carmichael, Jenelda Maxine Antle - Jenelda Maxine Carmichael, 92, Pickering, MO died Friday, October 21, 2016, at Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville.

Born February 12, 1924 in King City, MO, she was the daughter of the late Leavern and Eva Taylor Antle.

Jenelda was a 1941 graduate of Coffey, MO High School. A sales clerk and homemaker, she formerly was employed by Nodaway Drug Store in Maryville. She had also served as an election judge in Pickering. She was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church.

On January 11, 1947, Jenelda and Jesse Earl Carmichael were married,
in Maryville.

She is survived by sons, Stuart (Sherry) Carmichael, Pickering, and Eric (Pam) Carmichael, Maryville; daughter, Debbie Carmichael, Sherman, TX, and step-son Michael Carmichael, Riverside, CA; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, brothers Richard Antle, Princeton, MO, Bob Antle, Stewartsville, MO and Jerry Antle, Princeton, MO; sisters, Melba Hart, Bethany, MO, Carolyn Hewitt, St. Joseph, MO, Sharon Lippitt of Liberty, MO and Connie Snapp of North Kansas City, MO.

Carpenter, Calvin Ananias - Calvin Ananias Carpenter, known as Cac when he was younger, was born October 22, 1926 on the family farm near Elmo, Missouri. He passed away on November 22, 2016 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah.

He grew up working on the farm and helping his Dad with carpentry work. He attended country schools. Calvin was 9th of 13 children.

Married Bonnie Hayes June 29, 1952 in Maryville, MO and with this marriage they had two sons.

Calvin served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947 stationed in the Philippine Islands.

Calvin farmed, drove trucks, and worked construction in Missouri until 1959 when he moved his family to Shenandoah / Essex area to operate a road grader for Page County. In 1971 Calvin went to work at Eaton Corp. retiring in 1991.

Calvin was a member of the Clearmont Christian Church and later Nishna Valley Christian Church where he served as an Elder. He loved his family, his church family and was there to help with any projects.

Calvin was hardworking and always willing to help out. Calvin enjoyed woodworking, fishing, golfing with his Essex buddies, helping others, tinkering outdoors, long walks and spending time with his family. Those that knew him say he could fix anything without buying any parts. He was a man of few words, but every word was worth hearing.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents Dana Carpenter and Pearl (Goodwin) Carpenter, sisters Velma Carpenter, Wilma Hunter, Dorothy Burch, Lois Everhart and Minnie Lee Carpenter, brothers Charlie, Byron, Galen, Landis and Wendell Wayne Carpenter, great-granddaughter Sydney Kate Carpenter.

Arlene was born Tuesday, July 5, 1932 in Isadora, Missouri to Wilzie Orville and Wilma Clarcie Walker. She married Curtis Carroll August 1, 1949 in Bedison, Missouri.

A homemaker, Arlene was of the Baptist Faith.

Chitwood, Vera Jacquelyn Gust - Vera Jacquelyn Chitwood, 86, St Joseph, MO, died October 27, 2016 at Diversicare Health Center, St. Joseph.

She was born June 1, 1930, in Nebraska City, NE to Otto and Pauline (Chandler) Gust.

In March of 1947, Vera and Bill Heard were married in Maryville, MO. She was next married to Kenneth William Wymore on August 24, 1951. After Kenneth died in 1977, she married Samuel Clay Chitwood on August 1, 1979, in Burlington Junction, MO.

Vera operated the Wymore Grocery in Elmo for 10 years and later worked at the B & B Grocery in Skidmore. She was a member of the Skidmore Christian Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands: Kenneth Wymore (1977), Sam Chitwood (1999) and Bill Heard (2003); and daughter Beverly Frijo.

Coleman, Doris Geraldine - Doris Geraldine Coleman, age 97, of Maryville, MO formerly of Hopkins, MO died October 26, 2016 at Parkdale Manor Care Center in Maryville.

Doris was born at home in Taylor County, IA, March 2, 1919, to Albert Francis (“Frank”) Cubbage and Anna Risser Cubbage. Doris had fond memoris of living within the “Risser Mile” where her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins lived and spent many happy hours together. She was united in marriage to Robert Lynn Coleman on May 17, 1941 in Albany, MO.

She was a 1936 graduate of Bedford, IA High School and attended Northwest Missouri State Teacher’s College. She had been a country school teacher in rural Iowa, including Forest Grove, Science Ridge, Siam and Valley, all country schools. Doris had a fond memory of a former student inviting her to his 80th birthday party, she went and had a wonderful time reminiscing. After Doris gave up her career as a teacher she spent time as a Teacher’s Aide and then went on to cook at North Nodaway High School.

Doris belonged to the Hopkins First Christian Church, SOS Extension Club, Unity Friendship Club. She loved to sketch and paint along with working outside with her garden and flowers. Being outside working in the soil and observing nature was something that brought peace and joy to her. Crossword puzzles were a daily habit up until about a month before she passed away. Doris used to make her own patterns and sew clothes for Kay Ann and also doll clothes.

Colwell, Shirley Rose Tunell - Shirley Rose (Tunell) Colwell 80, Maryville, MO, passed away peacefully at Nodaway Nursing Home Thursday, October 20,2016. She was a devoted, daughter, wife, mother and a friend to many. Shirley was born on April 27, 1936 to John and Rozetta Thompson Tunell in Maitland Missouri and was a 1954 graduate of Maryville High School.

Shirley asked Jesus into her heart at a young age. She attended church faithfully and was a member of Laura Street Baptist Church. Before attending Laura Street, Loran and Shirley attended the First Assembly of God Church in Maryville, where she played the piano and organ. Shirley read God's word and prayed for her family daily.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant brother John David.

On September 7, 1955, Shirley married the love of her life Loran Colwell who preceded her in death July 28, 2011. They had been married 56 years. Shirley has two children, Terry (Joan) of St. James Missouri who brought her three grandchildren, Jonathon (Jesse) of Fordland Missouri, Christie of Springfield Missouri and Laura Jenkins (Chris) of Polk Missouri. Her other son Scott (Kelly) of Maryville brought her five more grandchildren. Jason (Katie) of Maryville, Mike (Megan) of North Kansas City, John (Samantha) of Edgerton Missouri, Austin of Maryville and Nathan, also of Maryville. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren. She loved her boys and grandchildren very much.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM Monday, October 24th at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, with services to be Tuesday, October 25th at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Nodaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Maryville.

Glenn was born March 11, 1949 in Gainesville, MO to Thomas Aud and Helen Fern (Landers) Coy, who preceded him in death.

A graduate of Nodaway Holt High School, Glenn was a retired electrician.

Glenn served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

Cross, Maggie Irene - Maggie Irene Cross, 89, Hopkins, Missouri, passed away November 12, 2016 at Maryville Living Center. She was born October 24, 1927 in High Point, North Carolina, the daughter of Andrew Clyde and Mary Etta Gilmore. Maggie Married Earl Edward "Bud" Cross on December 24, 1946 in High Point, North Carolina. He preceded her in death in 2009.

She was a homemaker before going to work at Ideal Cleaners in Maryville. In 1981 she went to work at Nebs, in Maryville, until retirement. Maggie was a talented seamstress, and loved to sew for her family and friends. The last few years she enjoyed helping organize the Hopkins Picnic Quilt Show.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Cross; son, Gary (Butch) Cross; her parents; brother, Samuel Gilmore and sister, Hilda Suggs.

Survivors include three children and their spouses; Ron (Kathy) Cross, Ed (Kristina) Cross, and Kathy (Rick) Swalley; seven grandchildren, their spouses and fifteen great-grandchildren: Corey (Libby), MaKayla and Alonna Cross; Stacy (Shane), Kailee and Emma Sprague; Brad (Laurel) Cross; Gary (Cathy), Allie and Connor Cross; Rhonda (Kolby) Kinley, Chase, Chance, Kassidy and Klaire Beemer; Andrea (Jason) and Quinn Nelson; and Amanda (Sean) Owen, Allie and Easton Wonderly; a brother Jerry (Bonnie) Gilmore, Bremerton, Washington; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Emery, Herbert James - Herbert James Emery, 87 of Maryville, Missouri died Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at SSM Health St. Francis in Maryville.

Born December 24, 1928 in Maryville, he was the son of Charles Jeffries Emery and Mandy (Seals) Emery. He and Alice Marie Fannon were married December 12, 1967.

Herb was the retired owner and operator of the Herb Emery Sanitation.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers: Charles, William, Gene, Doc, Earl, Robert and Jack Emery and three sisters: Helen Downing, Mabel Cleghorn and Neva Mae Cleghorn.

Herb is survived by his seven daughters: Sheryl Meyer, Portland, OR, Kathi Boedeker and Janelle Emery, Maryville, Robin Farnan, Hopkins, MO, Cindy Laughlin, Portland, OR, Jaunita Gilbert, State of Idaho and Roma Dawson, Bellevue, NE; three sons: Herbert "Tug" Emery Jr., Maryville, Bill Emery, Pickering, MO, and Jerry Emery, Hopkins; twenty-nine grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Loretta June Farmer, age 71, passed away Monday, April 6, 2015, at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Denver, Colorado. Loretta was born August 25, 1943 in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of John and Mary Close. She grew up on a farm near Fairfax, Missouri, and attended Daleview elementary school, Fairfax High School and college in Maryville, Missouri.
After moving to Denver, Colorado with her family, Loretta started and managed a Title business successfully for many years throughout the Denver metro area.
Loretta and her husband Larry enjoyed participating in charitable marathon bike rides to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and other charities. They were active participants in many civic events, including the annual Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Loretta was full of life and brought joy to all she encountered. She enjoyed biking, traveling and exercising. Her greatest happiness was spending time playing with her grandchildren, family and friends.
Her spirit is carried on by her husband, Larry Durkee; son, Scott Farmer and wife Kim; grandchildren, Makena and Max; siblings: Mary Ellen Clapper, Bonnie Gerard and husband Jim, Steve Close and wife Peggy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She will be missed by all.

Frueh, Margaret Joyce McGinness - Margaret Joyce Frueh, 77, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016, at her home northeast of Maryville.

Margaret was born on November 12, 1939, near Wilcox, MO. Her parents were Dale J. and Thelma M. (DeNeen) McGinness. She lived most all her life in the area, but had spent 7 years in St. Joseph, MO. Margaret went to grade school in Arkoe, MO, and to high school at Horace Mann High, Maryville, MO. She worked many years at the Energizer Plant in Maryville.

On December 2, 1955, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Maryville, she was united in marriage to Bernard C. Frueh. He passed away in 2013. She was also preceded by her parents; her daughter, Brenda K. Frueh, in 1958, her sisters, Estella Clements, and Carolyn Humphreys, and her brother, Walter McGinness.

Margaret was a member and attended St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Maryville. She had taught sewing in 4-H, she enjoyed bird watching, caring for her children and grandchildren her entire adult life.

She is survived by her children, Teresa M. Frueh (Rick Rhodes), Mulberry, FL, Gregory J. (Diana) Frueh, Hopkins, MO, Lisa A. (Rick) Filley, Skidmore, MO, Melanie S. Hageman, Charles Lee - Charles Lee Hageman, 81, Maryville, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 1, 2016, in Maryville.

Lee was born in Clay Center, KS on June 22, 1935, to George and Lora (Norris) Hageman. He graduated Riley Rural High School, Riley, KS, in 1953. He attended the University of Kansas and received the Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees. Lee was a member of Theta Chi social fraternity and later served as an alumni advisor. He was a member and officer of Alpha Rho Gamma, professional fraternity.

Upon graduation from KU, Lee opened the first custom design jewelry store, the Premier Jewelry Shop, in Lawrence, KS. After ten years in the jewelry business, Lee became the Jewelry and Silversmithing teacher in the Department of Art at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, MO. He taught for 30 years at Northwest retiring in 1998. Lee served as Chair of the Department of Art from 1978 until 1998.

Lee designed and created the gold and silver Mace in 1977, for the inauguration of Dr. B.D. Owens. The Mace was later stolen from the Olive DeLuce Building. He also set the sapphires and rubies in the University of Kansas Mace.

Lee designed and created the silver Chain of Office for the President of Northwest which is worn at graduations. He designed and created six Board of Regents Medallions, worn by the Regents at graduation.

Lee was the past president of the Missouri Craft Council. He was the Missouri State Representative to the 11 state North Central Craft Council. He was a former member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths.

Lee was a patient teacher and was well liked and respected by the students and faculty. He spent many years researching and developing a contemporary pewter department. He was a popular quest speaker and taught workshops throughout the Midwest.

Lee created and directed a high school art camp at Northwest for several summers.

He taught seven summer workshops for New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, with the classes being held in the mountains at Cloudcroft. He also taught three summers at Ghost Ranch near Abiqui, New Mexico.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alberta Hageman Wagaman.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edee Hageman; two sons, Dr. Steven J. Hageman, Boone, NC, and his wife, Dr. Elizabeth R. Miller, Charlotte, NC; Scott A. Hageman and his wife, Beth Coffelt Hageman, Kansas City, MO, and two granddaughters, Ava Anne Hageman and Leah Reese Hageman, Kansas City, MO; one nephew, Marc Wagaman, Emporia, KS, and one niece, Marian Wagaman Cordill, Buhler, KS.

Lee was a devoted husband and father. He spent many hours fishing with his sons in their canoe. He taught his sons to hunt for rocks, and cut and polish them into stones. Both of his sons became University Professors of Geology.

Lee’s body has been cremated. His memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. The inurnment will be at a later date at the Riley Cemetery, Riley, KS.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Hansen, Lee Elbert - Lee Elbert Hansen, 80, Fairfax, MO, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, MO.

Lee was born on November 20, 1936, in Guthrie Center, IA. He resided in the Guthrie Center and Audubon, IA areas, until moving to the Fairfax, MO, area in 1947.

Lee was a row crop and cattle farmer all his life, and was active up until April of this year.

He graduated from the Ravenwood Missouri high school in 1955. He attended the Cowboy Church.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Bessie (Brown) Hansen; and his brother, Laverne Hansen.

On January 26, 1957, at the home of Rev. L.B. Day in Maryville,
Lee was united in marriage to Karen Mae Pitzenberger, she survives on the home.

Hill, William D. "Bill" - William Delos (Bill) Hill, 65, of Maryville, MO, passed away at home on October 16, 2016, with family at his side.

Bill was born on July 16, 1951, in Graham, MO, his parents were William Martin and Eudora (Waldeier) Hill, and preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his brother, Charles Hill.

On June 14, 1991, in Paradise, MO, he married Sandra (Lininger) Linville, and she passed away on January 7, 2012.

He was retired as journey lineman and foreman and spent 44 Years at Nodaway-Worth Electric (REC), now United Electric, Maryville, MO.

He served and was a member of the Army National Guard. He and Sandy enjoyed time on the water, boating, traveling, and spending time with kids and grandkids.

Klindt, Charles W. "Bill" - Charles W. “Bill” Klindt, 94, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016, at the Maryville Living Center, Maryville, MO.

Bill was born in Bethany, MO, on March 22, 1922. His parents were Charles D. and Esther (Taggart) Klindt. He graduated from Bethany High School, class of 1941. He had lived in the Maryville area since 1945.

He served his country from 1942-43 during WWII, in the United States Army.

On April 10, 1945, in Kansas City, KS, Bill married Arlene Pigg, and she survives of the home.

He was a self-employed salesman for all of his adult life. He was a member of the First Christian Church, member of the James Edward Gray American Legion Post 100 for the past 72 years, and a lifetime member of the D.A.V.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Chester Lee Klindt, Marjorie Hatten, Kenneth Klindt, and John Klindt.

His survivors include his wife, Arlene, of the home; his sons, Richard Norman (Carol) Klindt, Maryville, MO, and Stephen Gregory (Evelyn) Klindt, Overland Park, KS; his brother, Lyle Klindt, Bethany, MO, and his sister, Mary Mason, Pattonsburg, MO; 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was born Dec. 1, 1924 in Nodaway County, Mo., to and Louise Grimes Lawler He married Bernita Thye N: 2". 1950, in Cedar Rapids.
Mr. Lawler was an employee of Churchill Truck Lines and was a World Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, three sons. Michael. Iowa City, and Patrick and Andrew, both at home: two daughters, Jill Lawler, Burlington, and Ann Lawler, at home: his mother and two sisters, Marjorie Dabney and Peggy Nichols, all of Burlington; and five grandchildren.

Mary J. Martin, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, in Phoenix. She was born on October 8,1907, in Rock Port, Missouri, to Anna (Dott) and Lewis Bigley. Mary was reared in Fairfax where she graduated with the class of 1925. On July 7, 1925, she was united in marriage to Jack A. Martin. Mary was a homemaker and also assisted her husband in operat­ing the Corkin Funeral Home in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a resi­dent of Phoenix for 30 years.
Survivors include a son, Lewis Martin, Litchfield Park, Arizona; two daughters, Carla Sorrelle, Orlando, Florida, and
Jackie Steffens, Columbia, South Carolina; a sister, Ruth Crouse, Phoenix; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. McGinness, Illa Mae Wray - Illa Mae McGinness, 90, of Maryville, MO, passed from this life on Monday, September 26, 2016, at the Parkdale Manor in Maryville.

Illa was born on April 30, 1926, in Pickering, MO. Her parents were Albert A. and Mary Elizabeth (Leech) Wray. She had lived all her life in the area.

Illa graduated from Maryville High School, and then got her teaching certificate from Northwest Missouri State Teacher College, Maryville. She taught for several years in country schools in the area. She later retired from the custodial department at Northwest Missouri State University.

On March 1, 1946, Illa was united in marriage to Leroy B. McGinness in Troy, KS; he passed away on May 5, 2014. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and 3 siblings, Katherine, Mildred, and Eugene.

Illa leaves behind her 3 children, Gail (Gene) Poppa, Maryville, Wanda (Richard) Goodspeed, Maryville, and Terry (Donnette) McGinness, Maryville; 4 grandchildren, Nicole McGinness, Maryville, Ashley (Rick) Barthol, Olathe, KS, Kerry (Abigail Jelavich) Poppa, San Mateo, CA, and Stephanie Poppa, Maryville; 4 great grandchildren, Nathan, Conner, Landon, and Brooke Barthol, Olathe, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 30, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church. The burial will follow in the Miriam Cemetery, both of Maryville.

Merriett, Mary Jane Dew - Mary Jane (Dew) Merriett, Burlington Junction, MO, was born on July 21, 1921, to Robert Adkins and Nancy Annice (Curry) Dew, near Hopkins, MO. She was their third child in a family of ten, her mother named her after Aunt Mary Jane McCullough.

She was proud to be a “Toad Holler" girl and enjoyed driving through the countryside telling stories of her youth there. She attended Hazel Dell one room school house, with to church at Workman Chapel before moving into Burlington Junction to stay at the Wagner’s home, to help Mrs. Wagner, and to attend high school. She was a 1938 graduate of Burlington Junction High School where she played volleyball and was the 1938 Homecoming Queen. She was awarded a scholarship because of a vocal solo to NWMSTC, where she completed the two years necessary for her Teaching Certificate. Her first teaching position was at the Loraine School by Elmo, MO. She went on to teach at several other one room schoolhouses and taught fourth grade at Eursa Minor Elementary School in Anchorage, AK, where was teacher of the year in the late 1950’s.

Mary Jane married Jesse Merriett on December 5, 1942, at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Burlington Junction, MO. During their 30 years of marriage, they traveled the US as a military family, but when military life was over they returned to their beloved Burlington Junction. To this union brought to 5 children to this world: Golda Annette, Jesse Marcus III, Janet Sue, Theresa Jane, and Marsha Diane. As a teacher, she made sure her children understood the importance of higher education and what doors it could open. With her guidance, all 5 of her children graduated with advanced degrees in nursing, physiology, physical education, and business from NWMSU, MO Western, and Iowa State. She sat proudly and watched as many of her grandchildren also crossed the graduation stage for their diplomas.

In 1969, Mary Jane started working at NWMSU, first in the Student Union food service, moving to Martindale Gym, as a matron and finishing at the Hudson, Perrin, Roberta Hall complex. She enjoyed her years at the university, her friendships with the students, faculty, and other support staff were very important to her. In 1986, she was awarded the MACE Award for her service to NWMSU.

Mary Jane didn’t let retirement slow her down. She began volunteer work with the American Red Cross, enjoying going with the Singers to various nursing homes each month; working at the Senior Center in Maryville, working at the Howard Hardware for Junior & Harriett Howard, then for her son in law Robert F. Strohecker, when he purchased the hardware; and until 2 years ago, she worked at Kiss My Grits Café in Burlington Junction. She enjoyed gardening, push mowing her own lawn, and epecially sitting in her swing on her deck with her dog Sparky, watching the people walk down the “new” sidewalk and the traffic going through Burlington. She would attend the numerous events her grandchildren were involved in, dance recitals, music programs, softball and baseball games, their graduations, their weddings, and was a fixture for many years on the top row at Rocket football games.

She was a member of the Burlington Junction United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post 315, 40 & 8, Red Hatters, and Red Cross Volunteers.

Preceding her in death; her parents, her husband Jesse, her son in laws Jon Q. Nelson, Allen McGinness, and Robert F. Strohecker, her brother, James (Bud) Dew, and sisters, Bernadine Shipley, Roberta Miller, Anna Rose Boyd, Laurel Lee Younger, Bonnie Riddle, Shirley White and “baby” Jean.

Merrigan, Donald Patrick - Donald (Don) Merrigan, 87, Maryville, passed away on October 21, 2016, at Parkdale Manor surrounded by his family.

Don was born March 3, 1929 in Guilford, MO, the son of Patrick (Pat) and Irene (McLaughlin) Merrigan. He began school in Guilford, but graduated from high school in Stanberry, MO. He was united in marriage to Margaret O'Riley on March 27, 1951 at St. Patricks Catholic Church, Maryville.

He joined the Marine Corps in 1951 and served his country until 1953. When he returned from the military he began farming with his dad in Conception, MO and worked as a carpenter. He continued farming until he retired and moved to Maryville in 2001.

Don was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church and was very active in the church. He enjoyed serving his community as a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, school board, rural water board, and the senior citizen housing board of which he was instrumental in getting built, in Conception Jct. He served many years on the housing board. Don enjoyed carpentry and kept busy in his shop in the basement of their home. Community service was important to Don, but his faith, family, and Irish heritage took precedence over everything else.

Miller, Marlene J. - Marlene J. Miller, 83, of Ravenwood, MO, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Parkdale Manor in Maryville, MO, surrounded by her family.

Marlene was born on September 11, 1933, near Swaledale, IA. She was the daughter of Philip and Clara Pitzenberger. The family moved to Missouri in 1948. Marlene graduated from the Ravenwood High School in 1951.

On June 8, 1952, she married Byron N. MIller, Jr., and they had 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.

Marlene worked at several different jobs including the Platte Valley Bank, the Ravenwood Creamery, Refinished Furniture, and at Sherry's Grocery. She was the caretaker of the Wilcox School, she raised Foxes, and she and her sister opened the first Reflexology and Massage Therapy business in Maryville. They later added accupressure and pedicuring to their business. Her family always came first. She loved family get togethers, especially the one her sister and husband had every year. She also loved her flowers.

Marlene was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; brother, Clarence; sister Phyllis Ann; grandchildren, Zane and Jocelyn; and her beloved daughter, Julie Lynn.

She is survived by her husband and her sons. Mooney, James S. "Jim" - James Steven "Jim" Mooney, 67, of Hopkins, MO, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, MO.

Jim was born on November 3, 1949, in Great Bend, KS. He lived in Great Bend and Ellinwood, KS, but most all his life in Hopkins, MO. Jim was self employed.

HIs parents were John Thomas and Vada Floretta (Lanterman) Mooney, and preceded him in death.

Jim served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Navy. He was a jet mechanic and served from 1968 to 1971.

His memberships included the American Legion Post 100, Maryville, and the Maryville Elks Lodge # 760.

He is survived by his children, Tim (Laura) Mooney, Maryville, MO, and Wendy (Virgil) Parman, Grant City, MO; his siblings, Richard (Sharon) Mooney, Deltaville, VA, Nancy "Jody" Griffey, Hopkins, MO, and David (Ireene) Mooney, St. Joseph, MO; 4 grandchildren, Payton Poppa, Landon Parman, and Cooper and Bodie Mooney; numerous nieces and nephews.

Nelson, Lorna Jean - Lorna Jean Landers Nelson, 92, Guilford, MO. died October 31, 2016 at LaVerna Village Nursing Home, Savannah, MO.

She was born February 17, 1924, in St. Joseph, MO to William E. and Beulah A. Daniels Landers.

Lorna attended Weis Elementary School and Benton High School, St. Joseph.

At eight years of age, she joined the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in St. Joseph. She lived a life of faith and humility, always striving to serve her Lord.

During World War II she worked at North American Aviation in Kansas City, KS as an aircraft mechanic. Following the war Lorna returned to St. Joseph where she worked at Douglas Candy Company.

On January 27, 1946 she was united in marriage in St. Joseph with Kenneth F. Nelson of Guilford who preceded Lorna in death September 24, 2012. Their entire married life was spent on their farm southeast of Guilford, where they raised their four children.

She is survived by her children: Carl "Chris" (Kim) Nelson, Heyworth, IL; Gilbert (Dr. Polly) Nelson, Guilford; Bonnie Nelson, Maryville, MO; and Betty Peck, Guilford; and grandchildren Joshua (Lee Hanten) Nelson. Hannah (Andrew) Mortonson, Tabitha Nelson, Caden Peck and Alex Peck.
Other survivors include sisters-in-law Theresa Landers, Jeanne Landers, and Winifred Negaard, brother-in-law Norman Nelson, special niece Jennifer Stabno, and many nieces and nephews.

Lorna was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather John C. Palmer; sister May Belle Landers; brothers William Landers, Robin H. Landers, Kenneth A. Landers, and David A. Landers, and several sisters- and-brothers-in-law.

A Memorial Service will be held, November 12, at the Community of Christ Church, Guilford, at 11AM. Visitation will be at 10 AM prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date.

William James "Bill" O'Riley; age 80, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at his home in Maryville. He was born on August 15, 1920, in Skidmore, Missouri, to Margaret E. (Linville) and Francis P. O'Riley.
Bill was a 1938 graduate of Skidmore High School, Skidmore, and served in the U.S. Navy. On September 23,1946, he was united in marriage to Betty "Jane" Haynes in Maryville. Bill was a retired farmer and was a member of the St. Gregory's Parish in Maryville.

Osburn, James Richard - Services were held for James Osburn of Skidmore Saturday afternoon at the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, west of Skidmore, with Rev. Jerry Moon in charge. Interment was in Burr Oak Cemetery.
Mrs. Bob Sefrit was in charge of music, and she accompanied Royce Clement and Greg Clement who sang, "America," "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "Now the Day is Over."

James Richard Osburn was born Nov. 12, 1912 at Craig the son of H. Cooper and Allie Curry Osburn and died Wednesday, Oct. 7,1987 at the Community Hospital, Fairfax at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 25 days.
He graduated from Daleview High School. He was a member of the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, Skidmore Eastern Star, and Skidmore Masonic Lodge.
He was married to Mary Lou Noe, and they made their home on a farm in the Daleview and Dotham areas until 1943 when they moved to Skidmore.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two daughters, brother and sister: Mary Lou this summer; Barbara Jean in 1953; Judy Combs in 1981; Dale Osburn and Wilma Burke.
Survivors include one son, Donald Osburn, Columbia; one daughter, Joyce James, Houston, Tex.; six grandchildren, Holly Fisher, James Combs, Mitch Osburn, Michael Osburn, Lynn Kahln, Lori Coulter.

Mary Lou Osburn was born Oct. 15,1913 in Morristown, Tenn. and died at the hospital in Fairfax July 28, 1987 at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 13 days after a lengthy illness.
Her parents were Cora Lee and James P. Noe. They moved to Atchison county when she was a child and she graduated from Daleview high school, Class of 1931.
In 1933 she married James Osburn. They lived on a farm in the Daleview and Dotham areas before they moved in 1942 to the Skidmore area. They were parents of four children, Joyce, Judy, Barbara Jean and Donald.
She was an active member of the Burr Oak Methodist Church, the Burr Oak Ladies Aid, Skidmore OES and Skidmore Study Club.
Preceding her in death were two daughters, Barbara Jean Osburn in 1953, and Judith Combs in 1981.
Survivors include the husband, James of Parkdale Manor Rest Home, Maryville; a son, Donald Osburn, Columbia; a daughter, Joyce James, Houston, Tex.; a brother, James C. Noe, St. Joseph; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held July 31 at Burr Oak Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Jerry Moon. Interment was in Burr Oak Cemetery.

Palmer, Jeanette May - Jeanette May Palmer, 84, passed away at home in Maryville, MO, on Sunday, October 30, 2016, after a long illness.

Born in Utica, MN, on September 10, 1932, she evoked a sense of independence throughout her life. For example, at age 16, she married her husband, Dean Palmer and they were married 64 years!

During their lives together they shared a love of family; the outdoors, camping, shooting, square dancing, and bowling. Jeanette embraced it all with enthusiasm.

She was devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jeanette was often involved in PTA, Little League, Room Mother, Scouting, and Camp Fire activities to name a few, as she raised her family.

Hardworking Jeanette juggled it all in Sonoma County, California--wife, bookkeeper of the family roofing business, seamstress of the children's clothing, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables, plus motherhood. While her three children were in high school, she attended beauty college, and then opened a hair dressing salon. A passion of Jeanette's was a square dancing apparel shop she co-owned (with RoseMarie Martignoli) in Cotati, California in which she made custom square dance clothing for men and women.

In the 25 years she lived in Missouri, gardening was her love. Her yards were beautiful and people would stop to compliment on their beauty. Jeanette was also legendary in the pursuit of auctions in Maryville and the surrounding area. She loved a bargain. During the past several years, her greatest avocation had been rip-roaring games of Yahtzee! She would play for hours! Laughter could be heard throughout the house!

Jeanette is survived by her children, Deana (Jim) Butler, Herb (Cindy) Palmer, and Connie (Dennis) Backman, grandchildren; Amber (Josh) Crummey, Justin (Vanessa) Armstrong, Dennis II (Jamie) Backman, David Palmer, and Travis Butler; great grandchildren Johnnie Luke, Tyler Greene, Olivia Greene, Andaya Backman, Timberley Armstrong, Colton Crummey, Tameyra Armstrong, Rylee Crummey, Jordan Butler, Mylee Backman, Racyn Backman and Kruse Backman. She is also survived by her siblings; Kenneth (Winnette) Treder and Sharon Larsen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Vivian Treder, her husband Dean, an infant child George Leroy Palmer, and her brothers Raymond and George Treder.

John Francis Peck, 80, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Community Hospital in Fairfax. He was born the son of Renric V. and Lois L. (Dunham) Peck on December 8, 1920, in Westboro, MO. John attended school in Rock Port, and gradu­ated in 1939. Upon graduation, he attended Peru State College, Peru, NE, for one year. John en­tered the United States Army on July 1,1942, and served throug­hout Italy, France and Africa for 38 months. For his dedicated service, John received four bronze stars and the Good Conduct medal. He received his honorable discharge on November 5, 1945.
In 1951, John graduated with honors from Tarkio College in Tarkio. He received his Bachelor of Arts' degree in Business and Economics. John taught for 33 years in the Rock Port, Oregon, and Craig, MO, schools, retiring in 1982. John resided in Fairfax, and upon his father's death in 1967, he cared for his mother until 1979 when they moved to Rock Port. During 1985, John was employed part-time with the Division of Family Services un­til ill health forced his retire­ment.
John was a member of the Rock Port Christian Church, the Ralph Greer American Legion Post #49, Rock Port, and had received his 50-year recognition in 1994. He was also a former member of the Missouri State Teachers' Association and a member of the Retired Teachers' Association of Missouri.
There are no survivors. John was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be di­rected to the First Christian Church, Rock Port.

Poppa, Merel Dean - Merel Dean Poppa, 85 of Maryville, MO died at his home Friday, November 11, 2016.

He was born in Langdon, MO, June 19, 1931 to Fred Henry and Mary Erdman Poppa. Merel served his country from 1948 to 1951with the United States Army.

Merel married his first wife and mother of his children, Marjorie Riley Beason, on November 5, 1951 in Wilcox, Missouri. He and his second wife Norma Jean Fannon were married January 26, 1973.

He was a long-time Body Shop employee for Curnutts, Ingels and then Boyles car dealerships. After retiring from body shop work, he became a custodian and security guard for Northwest Missouri State University.

A member of Laura Street Baptist Church in Maryville, he was also a member of the Eagle's Lodge #49 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Norma Poppa, Stepson Randy Wallace and brothers Harold, Milton, and Alvin.

Merel is survived by his first wife Marjorie; children: Junior (Sherrie) , Sheila (Rick) Salyer and Linda (Dennis) Casey, St. Joseph; Kenny, Kirby (Maria), Mike (Nita), Maryville; Robert (Linda) Valley Falls, KS, Diana (Tim) Lombard, St. Joseph and Sam Wermelskirchen, Maryville; 20 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and companion Mamie Webber, Whitesville, MO.

Pournazari, Kealye M. Lewis - Kealye Mechelle (Lewis) Pournazari, 53, of Maryville, MO, passed away October 10, 2016, at the Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville. She died with members of her family present.

Kealye was born December 12, 1962, in St. Joseph, MO. Her parents were Garland Ronald Lewis and Barbara Jean (Ballenger) Lewis. They both have preceded her in death.

She graduated from Johnson-Brock High School in Nebraska, the class of 1981. She then went on to Southeast Commuity College and later graduated from the College of Saint Mary. She earned a B.S. in mental health.

Ms Pournazari worked as a chef for the Aramark company. She worked in Maryville, and Overland Park, Kansas. She was employed with Aramark for 14 years.

She is survived by her son, Marc (Skye) Pournazari, of St. Joseph, MO. Her siblings, Ralonda (Dean) Byre, of Lincoln, NE, Timothy (Leigh Ann) Lewis, of Maryville,MO, and Lance W. Lewis, also of Maryville. Three nieces, Paige, Alex, and Morgan Lewis, and one nephew, Dillon Byre.

A celebration of life service for Kealye Pournazari will be held Saturday, October 15, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Maryville, MO. The service time will be 1:00 PM with Pastor Scott Moon officiating. Visitation to follow.

Rankin, Joe - Donald Joe Rankin, 83, of Maryville, MO, passed from this life on Monday, October 31, 2016, at his home near Maryville.

Joe was born in Bedford, IA, on November 26, 1932, to Carl Ordell and Frances Louise Masters Rankin, they preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his brother, Rolla Rankin, and his granddaughter, Julia Lynn Rankin.

Joe served his country first in the US Air Force as an Air Policeman, then served in the US Army as a helicopter pilot.

On November 26, 1950, Joe wed Jo Earlene Peery, at the Baptist Church Parsonage, in Maryville. She survives of the home.

He was of the Methodist Faith. And was a member of the Missouri Military Officers Association, St. Joseph, MO. He was awarded the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic’s Award for 50 years as an aviation mechanic. He also received the Wright Brother’s Master Pilot Award for 50 years of safe flying.

Joe was an airport operator for 52 years, first at the Maryville Municipal Airport, then he owned and operated Rankin Airport, east of Maryville, until his retirement.

His survivors include his wife Jo, of the home, 3 children, Marcha (Larry) Anderson, Maryville, Kevin (Debbi) Rankin, Maryville, and Jay (Joyce) Rankin Rockledge, FL, his sister, Mary Rankin, Omaha, NE, 4 grandchildren, Bryon (Stephanie) Rankin, Niceville, FL, Jamie Rankin, Santa Barbara, CA, Devin (Travis) Reed, Maryville, MO, and Bradley Rankin, Maryville, several great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 4, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, the visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Cremation will follow. Joe always dressed casual, so please come to the service casual.

Barbara was born on November 5th, 1938, to Catherine Lutgen Luke and Lawrence Vincent Luke. She married the love of her life John Lewis Riley on May 2nd, 1959, at St Mary's Catholic Church Maryville Mo.

Traveling the country was second nature to her. A few of her favorites were Alaska and Breckenridge, Colorado. Texas was her 2nd home where she enjoyed spending time with her husband and numerous friends during her retirement.

She loved spending time camping and swimming, and passed that love on to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

To pass the time, she enjoyed oil painting and crocheting just to give away the projects to the ones she loved.

She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. We find comfort in knowing that she's "On The Road Again" on her trip to heaven with "The Wind At Her Back". She went to heaven to be an angel, but she had already been our angel here on earth.

The celebration of life will include a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 14th, 2016, at the St. Columba Catholic Church, Conception Jct. Mo. The burial will follow in the St. Columba Cemetery Conception, Mo.

A parish and family rosary will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday December 13th, 2016 at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville Mo, with visitation to follow until 8:00 PM.

Santee, John Lavern - On October 9, 2016 "Johnny Starr" left to play his last dance job. John was born on March 8, 1924 in Hawarden, IA to James and Nina (Wolfe) Santee. On March 12, 1945, John married Ruby "Connie" Cross and lived in Shenandoah, IA where they owned and operated "Mom and Pops Café."

In the early 50's John and Connie moved to Fort Dodge, IA where they formed together "Johnny Starr and the All Stars," entertaining at various venues throughout Iowa and many other states. They also had their own local country music radio and television show.

In the mid 60's they opened their own restaurant and lounge in Fort Dodge. In 1969 they moved to Bedford where they operated and managed the Taylor House Country Club. In 1973 they renovated a vintage building in downtown Bedford "Starlite Restaurant and lounge" where they entertained and played with many Nashville recording artists.

In 1980 they moved to Loveland CO where they operated a local motel until his wife passed away. John then worked with his son Jim as a carpenter until he retired.

John is survived by his daughter Judy Caulkins of Loveland, CO; son Jerry Santee (Debbie) of Sutherland, NE; daughter-in-law Vicky Santee of Denver, CO; one Grandson; five granddaughters; and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Connie and son Jimmy John.

Sharp, Dana Robert - Dana Robert Sharp, 82, of Maryville, MO, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at the Parkdale Manor Nursing Home, Maryville.

Dana was born on August 7, 1934, in Bruce, IL. His parents were Adalai Denton Sharp and Marjorie Margurite Davis Sharp, they preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his brother, Charles Denton Sharpe, and his sister, Iona Dewey.

He graduated high school in Newburg, MO, then went to the Moberly Missouri Junior College for 2 years. He received his B.S. in Education from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College, Maryville, and later his Master in Education from the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO.

Dana was captain of his basketball team in 1954, at Moberly Junior College. They went on to be national champions. He received the NAIA All-American Award for basketball. He then played 2 years at Northwest in Maryville.

He retired as the Eugene Field Elementary School Principal after 20 years of service. He was an educator for a total of 35 years.

Memberships include the First United Methodist Church, and Rotary Club, both of Maryville, the Wakenda Lodge #52, AF & AM, Carrollton, MO, Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, and the Missouri Retired Teachers Association.

On September 12, 1954, Dana was united in marriage to Carolyn Jean Byland, in Moberly, MO.

Dana and Carolyn enjoyed traveling and to camp in their pop-up camper. They traveled to most of the United States and Canada, but also traveled globally, especially to Panama.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife, Carolyn, of the home in Maryville; 2 children, Connie Vern Carpenter, Columbia, MO, and Curtis Denton Sharp, Liberty, MO; 2 grandchildren, Valerie (Roy) Arnold, Yukon, OK, and Rachel (Johnny) Long, Enid, OK; brother, Kenneth Wayne Sharpe, Morrison, CO; 5 great grandchildren, Calvin Arnold, Emma Arnold, Landri Arnold, Luke Arnold, and Rayleigh Long; 2 brother in laws, David Byland, Moberly, MO, and Jim Byland, Key Colony Beach, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Garland N. Shipps, age 73, passed away on Friday, May 20,2005, at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville. He was born on December 17, 1931, in Overbrook, Kansas, to Earl and Nellie (Leuf) Shipps. On July 27,1957, he married Jeanette Stouffer in Fairfax. Mr. Shipps was a farmer and founder of Shipps Grain in Maryville. He served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Preceding him in death were his parents and a son, Greg Alan Shipps (August 18,1997).

Smith, Ronald Elijah - Ronald “Ron” Elijah Smith, 16, passed away on September 18, 2016 [car accident].

Ron was born in Valdez, Alaska on May 7, 2000 to Ron and Malissa Henry. Through the foster care system Ron came to Scott and Glenda Smith at 3 1/2 months of age and was officially adopted in 2004 at the age of four. He lived in Valdez, Alaska until 2012, when his family relocated to Maryville, Missouri.

Ron was a student at Maryville Schools until two years ago, when he began homeschooling. He was currently enrolled in automotive classes at Northwest Technical School. He spent the last five summers working with his dad and brothers on the Tatyana Renee, a commercial fishing vessel in Prince William Sound, Alaska.

Ron was the skiff man.

Ron was a member of Faith Harbor Fellowship while in Valdez, Alaska, and most recently Calvary Chapel in Maryville, Missouri. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding snow machines, motorbikes, and - most recently - tractors. He was mechanically minded, and loved to work with his dad in the shop. Ron was a Gentle Giant, and had a way of putting others at ease. He will be remembered for his easy smile and adventurous spirit.

Eunice Louise Stenberg of Maryville, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2001, at the Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville. No services were held. Cremation arrange­ments were by the Price Funeral Home in Maryville. Inurnment was made in the Miriam Cem­etery, Maryville.
Eunice Stenberg, age 76, was born on July 24, 1924, in Fair­fax, to Fred and Melva May (Humes) Davenport. She had re­sided in California prior to mov­ing to Maryville in 1992. Eunice was united in marriage to Joseph R. Campbell in 1942 in Craig, Missouri. Joseph passed away in 1943. Then: ^August 7, 1954, she was married to Paul Carl Stenberg in Santa Anna, Califor­nia. Paul passed away in 1970. Eunice had been a sales clerk in the cosmetic department of a drugstore until retiring. She was of the Methodist faith.
Eunice is survived by two sis­ters, Kathryn Ernsting, Hemet, California, and Ruth Wennihan, Fairfax; and two brothers, Charles Davenport and Owen Davenport, both of Tarkio, Mis­souri. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a son, Eric Stenberg; three sis­ters, Hollis Burke, Pearl Lee and Pauline Davenport; and two brothers, Earl Davenport and Beryl Davenport.

Glenn E. Stewart, 79, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, Illinois.
Mr. Stewart was born July 10, 1932 near Hopkins, Missouri, the son of Glenn M. and Opal F. (Clayton) Stewart. He graduated from Clarinda High School in 1950 and married Paula Reaney October 6, 1956 in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering and started with Caterpillar in East Peoria, Illinois. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1958 earning the rank First Lieutenant. He continued his professional career with Fiat-Allis until his retirement.
Glenn was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge and Ansar Temple. He was a devoted family man and enjoyed sailing with friends.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Paula; daughter, Lynda (Bob) Trimpe of Bloomington, Illinois; son, Paul (Carolyn) Stewart of Carl Junction, Missouri; daughter Susan (Jeff) Gaines of Springfield, Illinois; and grandchildren, Megan Trimpe, Sarah Trimpe, Alyssa Trimpe, Mary Trimpe, Aaron Stewart, Cara Stewart, Dylan Stewart, and Reaney Gaines.

Strueby, Kathryn Lucille - Kathryn Lucille Strueby, 76, died at her home in Conception Junction, Missouri, Wednesday, November 23, 2016.

Kay was born December 5, 1939 in Arkoe, Missouri to Glenn and Helen (Mattson) Allen. She and Thomas Gregory Julius Strueby were married On August 31, 1957 in Conception, Missouri.

She was a 1957 graduate of Horace Mann High School in Maryville and had worked in the shipping and receiving department of the Maryville Wal-Mart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Tom Strueby (August 31, 2016); son Gregory Strueby; two brothers Robert and Harold Allen and two sisters Doris Curry and Lois Smith.

Kay is survived by her sons David (Jennifer) Strueby, Maryville and Jeffrey (Ronda) Strueby, Conception Jct.; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, sister Judy Lyons, Maryville and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Sturm, Mary Charlene Partridge Mozingo - Mary Charlene Mozingo Sturm, 91 of Maryville, Missouri passed away Friday, December 9, 2016, at Parkdale Manor Care Center in Maryville, having spent only one night there.

Born April 23, 1925 in Maryville, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Dora Mozingo Partridge. She married Ernie Mozingo January 13, 1945 in Troy, Kansas. Mary married her second husband, William J. Sturm November 10, 1978 in Clinton, Missouri. He died March 31, 1993.

She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Ernie Mozingo (3-19-1985), son Ernie Mozingo (6-25-2009), grandson Mike Mozingo, great-grandson Justin Mozingo, stepdaughter Donna Hubbard, step-son Billy Sturm, four brothers, Ted, Charles (Bud), Art, and Allen Partridge and sister, Martha Finter.

A homemaker, Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church and attended Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville. She was a Charter member and Past President of the Eagles Lodge Auxillary, Maryville and a former member of Rosanna Chapter #262, Order of the Eastern Star.

Mary is survived by her son, Randy (Sharon) Mozingo, Maryville, whom she has lived with for the last four years, daughter-in-law Marilyn Mozingo, Council Bluffs, Iowa, four grandchildren: Chris Mozingo, Maryville, Mark (Dawn) Mozingo, Guthrie Center, Iowa, Matt Mozingo, Bagley, Iowa and Willie Mozingo, Council Bluffs, Iowa, three great-grandchildren: Morgan Mozingo, Guthrie Center, Iowa, Jamey (Becky) Mozingo, Elkhart , Iowa, and Jason (Clista) Mozingo, Guthrie Center, Iowa, three great-great-grandchildren and two step-sons: Russ and Kevin Sturm.

Symanski, Marcia Tyson - Marcia (Tyson) Symanski, 92 Maryville, Missouri died Friday, April 13, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Maryville, Missouri.
She was born December 22, 1919, in rural Atchison County, Missouri. Marcia was the daughter of the late Edwin and Lettie (Walkup) Tyson.
Marcia was a 1936 graduate of Maryville High School and graduated from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education.
She married John Symanski December 18, 1944 in Troy Kansas. Marcia and John owned and operated the Maryville Florist business for 35 years.
Preceding her in death were husband John (12/16/2006), brothers, Edwin Louis and Turner Walkup Tyson, and a nephew Edwin C.Tyson.
She was a member of St. Oswald's Episcopal Church, rural Fairfax, Missouri.

Taylor, Clayton M. - Clayton M. Taylor, 27, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at SSM Hospital in Maryville.

Clayton was born in Maryville, MO, on March 24, 1989, and was a lifelong resident of the area. His parents are Michael Rodney and Melinda Lou (Scarbrough) Taylor, and reside in Maryville.

Clayton graduated from Maryville High School in 2007, and attended NWMSU, also of Maryville. He was a member of the Laura Street Baptist Church, and the Breaking Chains Christian Music Ministry. He was in the MHS band, and a member of the drum line. He had many area musical connections and had taught guitar. He loved to hunt and fish with his father.

He loved to cook and had been employed over the years at several Maryville restaurants.

Clayton was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Lucille Taylor, Sr., and Kenneth and Lois Scarbrough; and a sister in infancy.

Besides his parents, Clayton is survived by his daughter, Payton Bodle, Ravenwood, MO; his sister, Serenity Jones and her companion Gary Staub, Sun Valley, CA; 2 nephews, Joseph Taylor, and Micheal Cain; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mound City, MO. Pastor Paul McKim will be the minister.

Services are under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. No formal visitation is planned.

Trost, Mary Priscilla, Sister - Sr. Mary Priscilla Trost, OSB, 100, Clyde, Missouri, died on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Our Lady of Rickenbach, Benedictine Convent of Perpetual Adoration, Clyde, Missouri.

Mary Emily was born August 12, 1916, in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of George W. and Nellie Mae(Martin) Trost.

She joined the Benedictine Convent of Perpetual Adoration on December 7, 1941and was given the name Sr. Mary Priscilla. She made her First Profession of Vows September 1, 1943 and her Final Profession on September 11, 1948.

Over the years, Sister Priscilla lived at our communities in Clyde, Saint Louis, Kansas City, and Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Her tasks included the altar bread department, sacristy, and sewing. One of her favorite projects was refinishing the niches in the Relic Chapel. It took six months.

In 1978, Sister Priscilla joined Sister Pascaline and a few sisters attracted to small group living. In Oklahoma, those founding sisters wanted to create an atmosphere for contemplative prayer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: William, George and Elmer Trost and six siblings that died in infancy.

Survivors include her Monastic family; Nieces: Charlotte Reinke; Dorothy Baldwin and Cindy (Don) Miller and a cousin: Charlotte (Gil) Fischer.

Wallace, Jerry Dean - Jerry Dean Wallace, 70 of Maryville, Missouri died on Sunday, October 30, 2016, at SSM Health St. Francis in Maryville.

He was born January 12, 1946 in Maryville to Joseph William Wallace Jr. and Dorothy May (Ross) Williams Miller.

Jerry worked in recycling at NOCOMO Industries and attended the First Baptist Church, Maryville.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kenneth Lee Wallace.

He is survived by his sister, Sharon Nelson of St. Joseph, MO, one half-brother John Wallace and two half-sisters Pam Andrew and Kyla Terry and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM Wednesday, November 2nd at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Funeral service will follow the visitation at 11 AM.

Weathermon, Lela Evelyn - Lela Evelyn Weathermon, 96 of Maryville, Missouri, formerly of Guilford, Missouri, died Monday, November 21, 2016, at Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville.

She was born December 24, 1919, in Guilford, Missouri to Orbin John and Anna Myrtle Goforth Neely. Lela and Melvin Albert Weathermon were married
October 26, 1946 in Maryville.

A 1937 graduate of Guilford High School, Lela was a homemaker and also a member of the Maryville First Christian Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Sue (Wayne) Jackson, Corydon, Iowa and Rosalie Ann (Ben Graham) Weathermon, Maryville; grandchildren, Walt Jackson, New Providence, Iowa and Clark (Anika) Jackson, Indianola, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Dallas, Grace, Olivia, and Tanner Jackson, Indianola and Dalton Jackson, New Providence.

A visitation will be held from 1-2 PM, Friday, November 25, 2016, at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, with burial in Weathermon Cemetery, Guilford, MO.

Wiley, Belvadene Clements - Belvadene Clements Wiley, 67, Maryville, Missouri, died, Monday, July 9,2007, at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St Joseph, Missouri. She was born February 11, 1940, in rural Guilford, Missouri, the daughter of Clell and Helen (Weathermon) Clements.
Belvadene married Marvin Wiley August 5, 1970, in Miami, Oklahoma. A 1958 graduate of Pickering High School, Belvadene attended Gard Business College in St Joseph, Missouri. She worked at Energizer for 23 years, retiring in 2002 and was a member of the Pickering United Methodist Church, Pickering, Missouri.
Belvadene was preceded in death by her parents and a niece. Survivors include her husband, Marvin, of their home; daughter, Holly VanHoutan, Big Lake, Missouri; two stepdaughters, Teresa Wiley and Pam Wiley, Amazonia, Missouri; four brothers, Jule Clements, Ravenwood, Missouri, Russell Clements, Maryville, Missouri, Richard Clements, Pickering, Missouri and Donald Clements, Hopkins, Missouri; five sisters: Lila O'Riley, Maryville, Ruth Anna Florea, Maryville, Sherrie McEnaney, Conception Junction, Missouri, Cleota Shell, St. Joseph, and Sue Waldeier, Kansas City, Kansas; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Diana Lynn Worl was born January 10, 1957, in Davenport, Iowa, to Artie and Eleanor Smith. She grew up in the Fairfax area, attending school there and was a homemaker. Diana loved her son David and both of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed planting flowers and doing holiday crafts.
Diana entered into rest after a two year battle with cancer on November 6, 2012, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Diana is survived by her son, David Schebaum of Fairfax, Missouri; grandchildren, Titan and Mercy; sister, Sandra Kent of Quitman, Missouri; and nephew, Robert Kent, also of Quitman, Missouri.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at the Quitman Cemetery in Quitman, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to the Diana Worl Memorial Fund, 705 Walnut, Quitman, MO 64487.

Wyer, Terry Lynn - Terry Lynn Wyer, 64, of Parnell, MO, passed away on October 10, 2016, at his home.

He was born on May 10, 1952, to John Raymond and Helen (Allen) Wyer. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his foster parents, Jay and Iva Mae Goff, and a step son Danny Chapasko.

Terry is survived by his wife of 34 years, Martha Jane (Adams) Wyer; two daughters, Andrea Swafford, and companion Joe, and Tracey (David) Johnston; 2 granddaughters, Kachina Swafford and Annabelle Johnston, and 1 grandson, Jessie Swafford; mother in law, Jean Adams, 3 sisters, Mary Hudson, Kay (Bruce) Peterson, Jeannie; many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A memorial service for Terry will be held at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.
Inurnment will be at a later date.

Younger, Laurel Lee Dew - Laurel Lee Younger, formerly of the Elmo and Clearmont, MO communites, passed away on September 28th at Autumn Wood Nursing Home in Claremore, OK. She was married December 21, 1944 to Charles C. Younger of Elmo. They lived in Elmo until moving to Clearmont in 2005.

Laurel Lee was the 7th of 10 children born to Robert and Nancy Dew. She spent her early years growing up in the "Toad Holler" area east of Clearmont where she attended first grade at the Hazel Dell country school. She was the only 1st grade pupil that year. The following year the Dew family moved to Burlington Junction where she lived and graduated from Burlington Jct. High School in 1946. When Charles returned from the Navy
they moved to Elmo.

Charles worked for Standard Oil as an agent and later purchased the agency which became Younger Oil Company. In 1984 they established the "Junction T" gas station and convenience store at the junction of Highways 71 and 136. Laurel Lee was the company bookkeeper until their retirement in 1987.

During their retirement years they enjoyed traveling to Florida, Texas, and Arizona during the winter months. They chose to return annually to Valley Del Oro Resort in Mesa, AZ where they met many other "snowbirds" friends from all over the United States.

Laurel Lee was an active member of the UMW at the United Methodist Church at Elmo as well as the American Legion Women's Auxillary. She enjoyed her family, reading, crossword puzzles, and her flowers.

She is survived by three children: Tom of Olathe, KS; Nina Wills & son-in-law, Ken of Broken Arrow, OK; Rex and daughter-in-law Peggy of Clearmont; four grandsons: Kris Younger of Columbia MO; Kyle Younger and wife Alyssa of Olathe, KS; Casey Wills and wife Jessica of Owasso, OK; Ryan Wills and wife Evyn of Tulsa, OK. Laurel had 7 great-grandchildren with another to arrive in December. Also, one sister Mary Jane Merriett of Maryville and one brother John (Buck) Dew of Estill Springs, TN and many nephews and nieces.

Preceding her in death was her husband Charles, parents Robert and Nancy Dew, brother James (Bud) Dew and sisters Bernadine Shipley, Roberta Miller, Anna Rose Boyd, Bonnie Riddle, Shirley White and infant "baby Jean".

Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 8th at 11:00 a.m. in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Clearmont. The service is open to friends and family. All are invited to join the family after the service for a luncheon at the Little Red School House in Clearmont.
