Baker, Margaret Elizabeth Hartman - Margaret Elizabeth Baker, 85, Maryville, Missouri, died Thursday, September 25, 2014, at Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville.

Margaret was born April 10, 1929, in Barnard, Missouri to Charles and Mildred (Armstrong) Hartman.

A 1947 graduate of Horace Mann High School, she first worked as a telephone operator for United Telephone, and later worked at Place's, both in Maryville and then Kilpatrick's in Omaha.

She married Wesley LaVerne "Buster " Baker October 27, 1951, in Savannah, Missouri.

Preceding her in death were her parents and husband Wesley Baker (April 8, 1988).

Margaret is survived by three brothers: James Edward Hartman, Robert Edwin Hartman and John Raymond Hartman, Maryville; two sisters: Doris Ann Neal, Maryville and Marjorie Lucille Gryka, Arcadia, California; two step-daughters: Janice Barber, Urbandale, Iowa and Linda Sanders and five step-grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be 1:30 PM, Monday, September 29, 2014, at Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville.

Richard L. Bennett, 82, of Savannah, MO, and former long-time resident of the Maitland, MO, area, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at his daughters home near Oregon, MO.

Richard was born on August 8, 1932, in Maitland, MO. His parents were Ralph E. and Clara (Ellison) Bennett. They preceded him in death as well as his wife, Irene B. Bennett, in 2011; and 2 brothers, Donald and David Bennett.

Richard proudly served his country in the US Army. Afterward, he farmed for many years and later owned a tire shop and was a fence builder in the Maitland area; he was of the Presbyterian faith. Richard enjoyed visiting his with neighbors, he gardened, and enjoyed watching the birds and animals. He was a member of the Savannah Missouri American Legion Post.

On October 25, 1952, Richard was united in marriage to Irene B. (Johnson) Bennett, in Burlington Junction, MO.

Survivors include his 3 children, Susan (Anthony) Rauch, Oregon, MO, Rick (Debbie) Bennett, Maryville, MO, and Terry (Marlyn) Bennett, Worth, MO; brother, Ralph (Junior) and wife Faye Bennett, Maryville, MO; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bennett has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.

Memorial graveside services and burial will be held at 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at the Maitland Cemetery, Maitland, MO.

Berg, Erma Gene Stutesman - Erma Gene Berg, 83, Maryville, Missouri, formerly of Parnell, Missouri died Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at Golden Living Center, Maryville.

Erma was born September 29, 1929, at Parnell , to Donald and Vesta Killam Stutesman.

She attended Bunker Hill country school and graduated from Parnell High School in 1947. She attended Northwest Missouri Teacher's College, Maryville, and taught 3 years for the Snowball country school in Independence Township.

She married Francis Berg on May 28, 1949 in Parnell. They had celebrated their 63rd anniversary.

Erma was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Parnell and attended St. Gregory Catholic Church after moving to Maryville.

Erma was a homemaker and farmer. While Francis was serving in Korea, she worked as a secretary for the Kansas City Police Department.

She had a passion for riding horses. For years she showed her horses in the surrounding communities. Later she rode in many trail rides and also rode in parades on her horses and pony drawn buggy.

She played country western music on her keyboard for several years at fairs, senior centers, nursing homes and family sing-alongs. She also sang at local music shows. Other passions were dancing and coon hunting.

She enjoyed playing cards with family, friends and neighbors. Her other talents were sewing and making quilts, electrician, plumber, carpenter, cooking, especially making pies and homade ice cream, and she put on many memorable weinie roasts.

Preceding in death were her parents.

Survivors include husband Francis Berg, daughters:  Patty (Steve) Paxson, Sheridan, Missouri; Peggy (Don) Lantz, Harlan, Iowa; sisters, Joan Schmitz and Donna Auffert, Parnell, Missouri; Grandchildren : Jason and Janelle Lantz, Tanya (Brad) Hill, and Tyler (Sharon) Paxson, and Great Grandchildren Brylea and Hardie Paxson, and Wyatt and Weston Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held 5-7:00 PM at the Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville, Friday, October 5, 2012 followed by a rosary at 7:00 PM.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, October 6 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Parnell with burial following at the St. Joseph Cemetery, Parnell

Bird, John O., Mr and Mrs - Word has been received by Mrs L.M. Bird of the deaths of her son and his wife, Mr and Mrs John O. Bird of Lancaster, Calif., formerly of Hopkins, who were killed in an automobile accident at 11 o'clock Saturday night. The only information about the accident received here was that they were struck by a government truck when returning from a picutre show Satuday night.

Others who survive Mr Bird are a daughter, Mrs Elmer Miller of Angels Camp, Calif, three brothers, Eugene of Glendale, Calif, Clifford of Superior, Neb, and Wilfred of Shenandoah, Ia; two sisters Mrs Ralph Boyd of Payette, Idaho, and Mrs Clyde Olmstead of Hopkins,. Mrs Bird's home was in Kansas City.

Funeral services and burial will be held in Lancaster for the couple.

Blair, Elbert B. - Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning at the Blair home, southeast of Graham, for Elbert B. Blair, who died at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home following a long illness. Dr W.S. Insley, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Maryville, will officiate. Burial will be in the Graham cemetery.

He was born March 9, 1875, in Kentucky, and had resided in the Graham community eighteen years. He was married September 24, 1899, at Langdon, Kas.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; two sons, David Blair, Graham, and George Blair, Maitland; two daughters, Mrs Cecil Rowlett, Bolckow, and Mrs Raymond Birmson, Maitland; two sisters, Mrs A. Applegate, Hutchison, Kas., and Mrs Myrtle Leininger, Omaha, Neb.; three brothers, John Blair, Mound City, and Joe and Frank Blair, Kansas City, Kas., and twelve grandchildren.

Byergo, Virginia Jane Whorton - Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Guilford for Mrs Virginia Jane Whorton Byergo, 83 years old, widow of Enoch Byergo, who died at 11:30 o'clock Friday night at her home, one and one-half miles west of Guilford. Rev Marvin Green, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Masonic cemetery at Barnard by the side of her husband.

Active pallbearers will be Elvet Davidson, Elmer Nelson, Dale Holaday, Lemuel Waugh, John Curnutt and Herb Warren.

Honorary pallbearers will include Dan Skidmore, J.L. Hocker, C.C. Hocker, Ed Dougan, James Nielson, W.B. Torrance, Wayne Davidson and Andrew Nelson.

Flowers will be in charge of Misses Esther and Betty Files, Darlene Diggs, Bonnie Jean Sherry, Justina Hamm, Mary Lou Laughlin, Olive Lewis and Ruth Anna Wise.

Music will be furnished by a quartet from Guilford including Miss Georgia Hannah, Miss Willa Dee Anderson, Sam Jobe, and Carl Wray, who will sing "The Old Ruged Cross" and "The City Four Square." Miss Hannah and Mrs Parrish will sing a duet, "Ivory Palaces," Mrs Chester McClanahan will be the accompanist.

Mrs Byergo was born Nov 3, 1860, near Guilford and lived all her life in Nodaway county. On March 4, 1886, she was married in Maryville to Mr Byergo, a native of Denmark, and since that time had lived in the Guilford and Barnard vicinity. They observed their golden wedding anniversary with a basket dinner at their home in 1936. Mr Byergo's death occurred May 12, 1941.

Mrs Byergo had been a partial invalid for several years, her last illness, influenza epidemic, was of brief duration.

She was a member of the Guilford Methoidst church and was a faithful church worker as long as her health permitted.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs Ethel Hubbell, Guilford; two sons, Emmet Byergo, Stanberry, and Glen Byergo, Provo, Utah, who will arrive tonight; one sister, Mrs Lucy Whorton, Guilford, and five grandsons.

Cowan, R.G. - R.G. Cowan, 80 years old, of Maitland, died Sunday morning at the St Francis hospital following a long illness.

He was born May 7, 1863, near Graham, and was married March 13, 1884, to Martha Kunkel at New Point.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs H.B. Eddy, Wendell, Idaho, and Mrs P.L. Wyman, Mound City; six sons, T.D. Cowan, Boise, Idaho; R.B. Cowan, Englewood, Colo; C.C. Cowan, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Reid C. and Arthur Cowan, Maitland, and Ivan L. Cowan, Hays, Kas; two sisters, Mrs Cora Adkinson and Mrs Bevens, Idaho Falls, Idaho; twenty-four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in the Maitland cemetery, but other funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Culver, Floyd Eugene - Funeral services were conducted today at the Methodist church at Burlington Junction for Floyd Eugene Culver, 7-month-old son of Mr and Mrs Floyd Leslie Culver of near Quitman. The baby died Saturday in a hospital in Kansas City where he had been a patient since November 9.

Rev Ted Masters, pastor of the Methodist church of Grant City, officiated. Burial was in the Ohio cemetery, near Burlington Junction. The baby was born May 30, 1943.

Dalbey, Estle Scroggie Humphrey - Estle Dalbey 96, of Maryville, Missouri passed away at Parkdale Manor, Maryville on Wednesday, September 10, 2014.

She was born July 10, 1918 in Conway, Iowa, the daughter of James Burl and Bertha Anna (Welton) Scroggie. A graduate of Conway Iowa High School, Estle married James M Humphrey on October 3, 1936. They divorced in the 1970's. Estel later married George Dalbey, December 26, 1979, in Burlington Junction, Missouri.

She was a member of the Rosanna Chapter #262 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Hopkins Missouri Christian Church.

Estle had been the Office Manager for Buildings and Grounds at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, prior to her retirement.

Preceding her in death were: her parents, first husband James Humphrey (March 11, 1989), second husband George Dalbey (April 16, 1994), an infant sister, Jessie Scroggie, sister Ruby Glasmann and two brothers: Junior Dean Scroggie and Leonard Scroggie.

Survivors include her daughter Paula (Rich) Hallenberg, Maryville; step-children: John (Jessie) Dalbey, Hamilton, Montana; James Dalbey, Burlington Junction; David (Becky) Dalbey, Burlington Junction; Carol Bronson, Sawyer, Kansas; Marie Spire, Kansas City, Missouri; Linda (Greg) Parker, Maryville and Beth Dalbey, Des Moines, Iowa; two grand-children: Matthew (Tia) Hallenberg and Amy Hallenberg, all of Maryville; three great-grandchildren: Tucker, Cooper and Parker Hallenberg; fourteen step-grandchildren and many step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is 1-2pm Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Price Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2 pm with O.E.S. services by Rosanna Chapter #262. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville.

Garrett B. Dennis, 7 months, passed away peacefully at his home in Maryville on August 8, 2014.

Garrett was born on January 31, 2014, in Maryville, to Adam W. and Caitlin E. (Faulkner) Dennis.

His survivors include his brother Logan, 2 ½ y.o. of the home; his paternal grandparents, Kelly and Kevin Leedom, Pickering, MO, and Dale Dennis, and fiancée, Jamie Auten, Maryville, MO; and maternal grandparents, Richard and Tammy Faulkner, Owensville, MO; paternal great grandparent, Doris Fisher, Maryville, MO, and maternal, Richard and Betty Faulkner, Owensville, MO; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dr. Elwyn K. DeVore, 94, retired Dean and Distinguished University Professor, College of Business, Government and Computer Science, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Maryville.

Dr. DeVore was born July 24, 1920, in Clarksdale, Missouri to Kyle A. and Florence (Huffman) DeVore. Elwyn and Emma Brown were married April 5, 1942, in St. Joseph, Missouri.

A member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church he also served on the Parish Council. He was also a member of Maryville Country Club.

He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.

A 1938 graduate of Central High School in St. Joseph, he went on to achieve his Bachelor of Science in 1942 from Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College and Master of Science in 1951 from Oklahoma State University. He next pursued graduate work at the University of Colorado and University of Kansas and obtained his Doctorate in Business Administration in 1959 from Indiana University.

Dr. DeVore taught and coached for high schools in Quitman and Maryville, Missouri and Creston, Iowa 1946 to 1950.

While with Northwest Missouri State he established Small Business Administration Programs; business programs in Agri-Business, Industrial Technology and Fashion Merchandising, including M.S. and M.B.A. degrees and weekend M.B.A. programs in both Maryville and St. Joseph.

He served on many NWMSU committees, including Athletic, and Rank and Promotion; Small Business Advisory Committee for the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce.

He was secretary/treasurer, member of the Board of Directors and President (1968-1969) of Midwest Business Administration Association, an organization of college and university business faculty.

Preceding him in death were his parents, step-father Claude Garrow and sister June Ellis.

Surviving him are his wife of 72 years, Emma DeVore of their home in Maryville; son Mark (Sherry) DeVore, Branson, Missouri; two daughters, Jean Ann (Wayne) Mertens, Omaha, Nebraska; and Mary Sue (Dwight) Tompkins, Sacramento, California; seven grandchildren: Major Jarrod A. (Charlotte) DeVore USMC, Adrien Erickson, Dathan DeVore, Jase (Heather) Johnson, Keegan (Cyndi) Johnson, Jenna (Kevin) Townsend, and Kimberly Tompkins and four great-grandchildren.

Dr. DeVore has been cremated.

Emery, Wilber Lee - Wilber Lee Emery, 55, Conception Junction, Missouri, died Friday, September 28, 2012, near Savannah, Missouri.

Wilber was born, January 13, 1957, in Aberdeen, Washington to Charles H. and Lottie Rosanna Davis Emery.

Wilber was self employed, doing sheet rock and carpentry. He loved the out of doors, especially deer hunting. His memberships included the North American Hunting Club and the National Rifle Association.

Preceding Wilber in death were his parents and one brother Herbert Leroy Emery.

Survivors include: his son Jesse Emery, Conception Junction; one sister Mary Stiens, Maryville, Missouri.

Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Thursday, October 04, 2012, at the Price Funeral Home Chapel, Maryville. Mr. Emery's body will be cremated after the services.

Foreman, Frances Elaine Phelps - Frances Elaine Foreman, 64 of Ravenwood, Missouri, formerly of Lineville, Iowa, died September 28, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Maryville, Missouri.

Frances was born January 17, 1948 in Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Miles F. and Jackie E. (Fuller) Phelps.

Frances was married to Jackie Eugene Foreman, October 17, 1968, in Lineville.

Frances was self-employed as a private care giver and also worked as a janitor.

Frances was preceded in death by her father Miles Phelps; a son James Foreman and one brother, Ivar Phelps. Her husband Jack died in February of 1999.

Surviving are daughter, Eugenia (Gena) Whitwell, Maryville; son-in-law Brad Whitwell, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; mother Jackie Stephens, Mercer, Missouri; sister Crystal Stephens, Kansas City, Missouri; brother Jess (Clairee) Phelps, Lineville; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Foreman's body has been cremated. A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date in the Hamilton Cemetery, Pleasanton, Iowa.

Foster, Irene Young - Irene Young Foster, 95, Maryville, Missouri, died September 2, 2014 at the Parkdale Manor Care Center, Maryville.

Irene was born November 6, 1918, the daughter of Russell B. and Lula Mae (Parshall) Young, on a farm on the former Bilbey Ranch near Quitman, Missouri.

She graduated from Quitman High School in 1936 and moved to Maryville, Missouri soon after for employment.

On February 20, 1943 she and Carl H. Foster were married at the Presbyterian Manor by the Reverend W.S. Insley. Irene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over seventy years, having served as treasurer for five years, as well as an elder, trustee, and deacon.

She was the bookkeeper for an auto repair shop she and her husband owned for 28 years.

Survivors include her brother: Russell P. Young, Lowry City, Missouri; her sister: Kathleen Gaugh, Maryville and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006; her parents; brothers: Rolland, Barnett, Dale, Leslie, Harley, Herman and an infant brother Harold and sisters: Anna Lee Richards, Larita Mansfield, and an infant sister Carol.

Grahl, Sheryl Lynnete - Sheryl Lynnete Grahl, age 63, Skidmore, Missouri, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at her home.

She was born April 13, 1949 in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of Robert Dean and Mary Sherrow Lowrance.

Sheryl was a 1967 graduate of Nodaway Holt High School, Graham, Missouri.

On January 27, 1979, she was united in marriage to Steve Grahl, in Skidmore.  To this union one daughter was born, Christina.

Sheryl was a homemaker.  She attended Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Chapter PI MU.

Survivors include: Husband Steve, of the home, Skidmore; daughter Christina (Nate) Rice, Skidmore; mother Mary Hass (Hale), Kansas City, Missouri; father Robert Lowrance, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; brother Mark (Susie) Lowrance, Garden City, Kansas; and one sister Janet Lowrance, Garden City, Kansas.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 19, from 6-8 PM at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville, where funeral services will be held Thursday, September 20 at 10:30 AM.   Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore.

Gray, John F. "Jack" - Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Baptist church in Hopkins for John F. "Jack" Gray of Clearmont who died Thursday. The pastor Rev Dan R. Gott, officiated. Burial was in the Hopkins cemetery.

Pallbearers were Clifford Edwards, Martin Burch, Eldon Huls, Wilbur Maier, Ola Hutson and Judge Everett Gray.

Flowers were in charge of Mrs Lucile Burch, Mrs Dora Edwards, Mrs Margaret Huls and Mrs Cleo Maier.

Wanda was born March 6, 1926, in Barnard, Missouri to Nial and Alice Buie Wyatt.

She and Edward Robinson Gray were married June 1, 1946, in Maryville, Missouri.

Wanda was a 1943 graduate of Maryville High School and also a graduate of Northwest Missouri State College. She worked as a secretary with her husband at Gray Insurance Agency of Maryville.

Wanda was a member of the Maryville First Christian Church and had recently celebrated her 50 year anniversary as a member of Chapter HT P.E.O.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband: Ed (May 23, 2005); and brother Donald Wyatt.

Wanda is survived by her daughter: Gretchen Doran and husband Mark, Vermilion, Ohio; son: Edward Wyatt Gray and wife Nikki, San Diego, California; five grandchildren: Ryan Doran and Danielle, Broadview Heights, Ohio; Jeremy Doran and Lauren, Granville, Ohio; Robert Doran and Kristyn, Chesapeake, Virginia; Leah Gray, San Diego, California; Nelson Gray and Casey, Folsom, California; brother: Gary Wyatt and wife Jean, St. Joseph, Missouri sister: Darlene Wyatt Jackson, Maryville, brother- in- law Ron Gray, Dana Pointe, CA., and five great grandchildren.

Norville T. Harris, 77, of Maryville, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 09, 2014, at the St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Norville was born on January 16, 1937 in Ravenwood, MO, to Orville J. and Nora L. (O’Day) Harris. He was preceded by 2 brothers, Donald Harris and Vincent Harris, his parents, and several brother in laws.

He was a lifelong resident of the area. He attended the First Christian Church, Pickering, MO, was a 4-H Leader, a member of the Pickering Lions Club, and the Missouri Dairyman’s Association.

Norville graduated from Horace Mann High School. He ran his own dairy farm and later raised beef cows. He retired after 17 years as the Supervisor at the Pellet Plant at NWMSU in 2009.

On August 30, 1959, Norville was united in marriage to Geneva E. Nelson, in Maryville, MO, she survives on the home.

Other survivors include his children, Terry (Cindy) Harris, Pickering, MO, Teresa (David) Blackford, Maryville, and Dennis (Patty) Harris, Maryville; 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Gerald (Vivian) Harris, King City, MO, and a sister, Leareta Clements, Pickering, MO; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville. The burial will follow in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, also of Maryville.

Headrick, Georgia Shelton - Georgia Headrick, age 95, Maryville, Missouri, died September 22, 2012 at Parkdale Manor Nursing Home.

She was born February 22, 1917, in Quitman, Missouri; the daughter of the late Ernest Fleet and Blanche Marion Job Shelton.

Georgia was a graduate of Quitman High School and earned her teaching certificate from Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College, Maryville. She taught elementary education in several one room country schools.

Georgia was united in marriage to C. Edwin Headrick on June 4, 1939 in Quitman. They moved to California in the 1950's and had resided in Escandito, California before returning to Maryville.

Georgia attended the Wilcox Methodist Church, was a member of the Rosanna Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #262, and the Shell Grove Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband (1999), three brothers Truman, Bill, and Edward Shelton.

Dora Jean Henry, 70, Clearmont, Missouri, died Thursday, August 14, 2014, at Heartland Regional Medical Center, Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Dora Jean was born August 29, 1943, in Andrew County, Missouri to Marvin Drexel and Wilma Maxine (Boyles) Snowden. Maxine passed away when Dora Jean was five years old. She was raised by her step-mother Dorothy Helen Snowden. They all preceded her in death.

She attended high school, worked as a waitress at Gray's Truck Stop, attended St. Joseph Beauty College and worked as a beautician. She was employed at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda, Iowa and also did custom sewing, crafts and embroidery work.

Dora Jean and Billy Dean Henry were married June 5, 1960 in Burlington Junction, Missouri.

She was also preceded in death by her brother Edward Wallace and sister Velma Royalty.

Survivors include her husband Billy Dean Henry, Clearmont; daughter Ronda Deann Henry, Maryville, Missouri; son Roger Lavern (Loyalea) Henry, grandson Rodney Allen Henry, all of Braddyville, Iowa; brother Ralph (Louise) Wallace, Clearmont, sister Kay (Joe) Christian, College Springs, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

Hooper, Frances Ruth Goodpasture - Frances Ruth Hooper of Maryville, Missouri passed away August 13, 2012 at Nodaway Nursing Home of complete kidney failure.

Ruth was born July 8, 1913, in rural Holt County, near Maitland. She was the younger daughter of George Bethel and Grace M. Goodpasture. Her older sister, Lillian I. Hammond, died in 1990. Ruth was married in Mound City on November 29, 1933 to Thomas Reid Hooper who preceded her in death in 1989.

She graduated Northwest Missouri State College in 1954, the same year her son Charles graduated the University of Missouri, Columbia. She taught at Eugene Field School in Maryville from then until her retirement in 1978. She rarely forgot the name of one of her former students and could often remember their classmates and incidents that happened in their particular fourth grade class.

She was a graduate of Cottey College. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter HT (MO); Order of the Eastern Star; the Republican Party; Daughters of the American Revolution, and Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She was a proud supporter of Northwest, the Maryville Public Library, and the Nodaway County Historical Society.

Ruth was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Maryville at the time of her death, but claimed that a part of her always stayed with the United Methodist Church in Maitland where she grew up. She served on various church boards for many years and remained interested in the congregation’s members and mission even after moving to Nodaway Nursing Home this summer.

Ruth declined to travel in her later years, but she and Tom moved from state to state, town to town, several times before settling in Maryville in 1949.

Mrs. Hooper is survived by her daughter Shirley McKee (Terry) of Beavercreek, Ohio; granddaughter, Marcy Novak (Rich); grandsons Tom, Mike (Heather), and Richard Hooper; great-grandchildren Ben, Amanda, Sam Novak, and Hannah and Reid Hooper; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will also be remembered by her church family and her "kids" from Eugene Field School.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, August 16, from 7:30 to 8:30 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30 on Friday, August 17, at the First Presbyterian Church, Maryville with Pastor Jonathan Mitchell officiating and Robert Ceperley assisting. Burial will be at Maitland Cemetery, Friday afternoon at 2:00.

Hutson, Mable Irene Harris Keever - Mable Irene Hutson, 95 of Quitman, Missouri died on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at her home in Quitman, Missouri.

Mable was born June 16, 1917 in Skidmore, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Nettie Harris. She was united in marriage to Dillard Keever in 1934.

She was a member of Nazarene Faith and had attended the Fairview Country School.

Surviving are sons, Daniel (Connie) Keever, Gladstone, MO, Darrell "Buzz" Keever, Quitman, MO and a daughter, Donna (Lloyd Dean) Pitts, Burlington Junction, MO; twenty three grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, numerous great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sons, Donald and Dwight Keever; daughters, Doris Caudill and Stillborn Dorothy Keever; brothers, Merlin and Harlan Neal, sisters, Edith Wellington, Gladys Williamson, Melba Neal and Eva (McClain) Koger.

A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri. Interment will be in Quitman Cemetery, Quitman, MO.

Dorothy Alice Ingram was born on October 16, 1922 in Hopkins, Missouri, the daughter of Earl W. and Mary Jane (Huey) Hall. She graduated from Hopkins High School, and then from Platte Business College.

On February 16, 1944 she married Eugene “Gene” Ingram in Hiawatha, Kansas. They owned and operated jewelry stores in Hopkins, Plattsburg, and Rock Port.

Dorothy passed away on Monday, September 1, 2014 at the Pleasant View nursing home in Rock Port at the age of 91.

Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Daniel Ingram; brother, Huey Hall; and sisters, Lola and Pauline.

Frances Evonne Jones was born September 30, 1924, on the family farm outside of Wilcox, MO, to Glen and Edna (Meyers) Adams. The second of five children, she and her siblings attended Shell Grove Country School, then Horace Mann High School where she graduated. While attending Northwest Missouri Teacher’s College, she worked at Bakers Department Store in Maryville, and then went on to teach at the Lorraine School, near Burlington Junction, MO, for 2 years.

Evonne married her high school sweetheart, Harold Dale Jones, Jr., on March 11, 1945. They went to Florida where he was stationed in the US Air Force. Moving back to Maryville she became a housewife and mother, while Harold worked building houses. They purchased the Plant House in 1967, and it became the family business, expanding to Maryville Florist, The Plant House and Cameron Greenhouse, in Cameron, MO, and Myers Watson Florist, in St. Joseph, MO.

Evonne was a member of the First Christian Church, Maryville, MO, the IFA Club, CWF, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Maryville Soroptimist Club. After their retirement they enjoyed many years together, enjoying their grandchildren and traveling the United States. She passed away August 18, 2014, at the Parkdale Manor Nursing Home where she had resided the past three years.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2007, and her parents; her step-mother, Lucile Adams, brother, Lloyd, and sister, Wilma Dawson.

A graduate of Pickering, Missouri High School, she retired as a Switchboard Operator for United Telephone.

She married Shelby Douglas Keever June 15, 1948, in Maryville and was a member of the Parnell United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Shelby Douglas Keever Sr. (October 11, 2011); daughter-in-law Carol Keever; brother Ralph Bosley; sisters: Verna Meek, Dorothy Morgan and Eileen Gladfelder.

Betty was born on September 5, 1926 in Graham, Missouri, the daughter of the late Chester Udall and Esther Ruth Owens Gordon.

Betty was a 1944 graduate of Graham High School and attended Hagey Beauty Academy. She had worked at Coulter's Beauty Shop, Maryville Daily Forum, Vansickle Business Services and Law Electric.

Betty was united in marriage to Junior Benjamin (J.B.) Law, April 3, 1946 in Maryville. He preceded her in death on December 17, 2009.

She was also preceded in death by one brother Donald Gordon, sister Ila Gray and a daughter-in-law Pam Law.

Betty was a member of the Maryville First United Methodist Church and the Levi and Lace Square Dance Club.

Lewis, Evelyn Ruth Frazee - Evelyn Ruth (Frazee) Lewis, daughter of Alpha William Frazee and Margaret Theola Brown, was born April 28, 1920, near Barnard, Missouri. She passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014, in the Villisca Good Samaritan Center, after a lengthy stay at the age of 94 years.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence Lewis, August 15, 1938, in Red Oak, Iowa. Lawrence and Ruth spent most of their adult years farming around the Villisca area, while Lawrence took on extra jobs like driving the school bus and eventually, school bus manager. Ruth was a stay-at-home mom for most of her life although she worked in the school cafeteria and assistant to Dr. Richey for many years. She enjoyed reading and writing poetry and, in fact, had two poems published. Ruth entered the Villisca Good Samaritan Center in July 2000 and has been a resident there since that time.

Lawrence and Ruth had four children: Darwin "Dar" Lewis (deceased); Margaret (Dale) Spencer, Villisca, Iowa; Roger (Evelyn) Lewis, Indianola, Iowa; Lawrence "Bernie" (Gail) Lewis, Erie, Colorado.

Preceding her in death were: her parents, Alpha and Margaret Frazee; her siblings: John Alpha Frazee (1998), Wylie Frazee (1986), and three infants, Lucille, Rosella and Bruce; one son, Darwin Lewis (2012), one granddaughter, Adrianne Heard (1962), and one great-grandson, Nathaniel Heard (1992).

Survivors include: her husband Lawrence of Villisca; children, Margaret Spencer, Roger Lewis, and Bernie Lewis; grandchildren, Trent (Jeanna) Heard, Des Moines, Iowa; Debbie (Lee) Hughes, Villisca, Iowa; Cindy Lewis, Washington, D.C., and Daniel (Lisa) Lewis, West Des Moines, Iowa; and many loving great-grandchildren, cousins and friends.

Marion, L. Marvin - Dr. L. Marvin Marion, Professor Emeritus, passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2012, in Maryville, MO. He was a native of East Tennessee, born on September 11, 1930. He resided in Maryville, MO. He was preceded in death by Jo Ann Stamm Marion, the love of his life, his sweet wife. Also her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stamm, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marion, and an only brother.

He had no living immediate family members; he had some close friends, namely Dr. Justis Ehlers, Nancy Farlow, and many others. He is survived by first cousins in East Tennessee; Mona Beckner, Louise Cook, Jimmy Gordon, Betty Johnson, Jo Ann Marion Marshall, and her sister, Judy Marion.

He received his Bachelor’s degree from Carson Newman College, his Master’s degree from the University of Tennessee and his Doctorate at East Tennessee State University. He taught thirty-five years in public schools. After graduating, he took a position at Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph where he supervised student teachers and taught teacher methods courses. He also taught at Northwest Missouri State University.

He was the former president of St. Joseph International Reading Association (IRA). Jo Ann could not come to the last planning meeting on a Saturday morning, April 8, 1978. She called him at noon, and they met and planned for four hours at a restaurant in St. Joseph, since she was the newly elected president of the IRA. He fell deeply in love with her. They had several dates. She taught at the Horace Mann lab school at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville where she was a professor. When his summer school ended she had one more week at Horace Mann. He drove to Tennessee to visit his dad, and she flew to Knoxville the following Saturday. On Monday, they took a picnic lunch and ate by a stream in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. After lunch, they drove to the top of Old Smoky where he proposed. They were married October 27, at the First United Methodist Church in Maryville and resided at two different homes until she passed away in April of 2009. He has looked forward ever since to join her for eternity in heaven.

His funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Maryville at 10:30 AM Saturday, August 18, 2012. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, MO.

Nancy Jane Mason , 71, of Maryville , MO passed away Friday August 8, 2014 at the Heartland Regonal Medical Center in St. Joseph. She was surrounded with loving family members by her side. The daughter of Herman and Jane (Rassmussin) Witt she was born on August 12, 1942 in St. Paul, MN.

While serving in the United States Navy she met Gary Edsel Mason. They married on September 20, 1963. He survives her.

To this union 5 children were born: Celeste (Karl) Beemer of Owosso, MI, Dawn (Charlie) Beemer of Munger, MI, Gary Edsel (Connie Jo) Mason Jr. of Olathe, KS, Jeff (Len) Mason of Debary, FL, and Darel (Donna) Mason of Kansas City, MO.

Nancy Jane is also survived by 11 granchildren: KaraLee Beemer, Kyle (Jessica) Trinklein, Rebecca (Ed) Pingel, Morgan , and McKenzie Mason, Alexandra Mason, Melessa (Stephen) Ponce, Olivia Mason, Yasmin (Justin) Shafer, Logan and Parker Mason. Lois W. Medsker, 95, of Graham, MO, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2014, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, Mo, with family members at her side.

Lois was born on January 28, 1919, in Graham, to Jacob and Eva (Stiverson) Eckles. She was a lifelong resident of the area.

On February 18, 1938, Lois married Homer S. Medsker in Manhattan, KS. He preceded her in death in November of 2000. She was also preceded by her parents; brother, Ralph Eckles; 2 sisters, Glola Blosser, and Olive Scott; and 2 grandsons, Kyle Stewart Medsker, and Ross Stewart Medsker.

Lois was a farm wife, and also kept busy with her different Graham memberships. She attended the Graham Union Church, was a member of the Good Luck Club, Graham Hobby Club, Graham Missouri Historical Society, Graham Community Betterment, Prairie Home Cemetery Board, and the Well Baby Clinic, where she was the Registrar.

Millikan, Corwin F. - The ashes of Corwin F. Millikan of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Maryville, arrived in Maryville today for burial. He died November 30 at his home in San Diego and was cremated December 5.

He was born February 27, 1883, at Graham, and was the son of the late Mr and Mrs Andrew Millikan. He had resided in the Maryville and Graham communities until eight years ago when he went to California.

He is survived by two brothers, Harlon Millikan, Billings, Mont., and William Millikan, Kellogg, Ia.

Mr. Paul F. Mitchell, 89, of Maryville, MO passed away on Friday, September 19, 2014, at his home in Maryville.

Paul was born in Maryville, MO, on June 19, 1925; his parents were Vern and Florence (Kinney) Mitchell and preceded him in death.

He attended Lasher country school and graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1943.

After high school Paul joined the US Army and was sent to Fort Leavenworth for basic training. He received his training at Fort Belvoir, VA with the 259th Engineer Combat division. After a short stay at Pearl Harbor, he was sent to the Japanese Islands. After the war he returned and farmed with his parents west of Maryville, and held multiple jobs around the area.

In 1948, he married Betty Darlene Porter who preceded him in death. In 1964, he married Doris Darlene Hurst and she also preceded him in death. Then in 1981, he married Lois Shrubshell and she passed away in 2000.

He was preceded in death by his step son Gary Shrubshell in 2005. Paul was a member of the O’Howell-Strader Legion Post #102, Barnard, MO. He was of the Baptist Faith.

He retired after many years as the Superintendent of the Maryville Water Department.

Survivors include his daughter Paula (Lon) Guthrie, Maryville, MO, step daughter, Karla (Doyle) Bounds, Albany, MO; step son, Ed “Don” Shrubshell, Columbia, MO; seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren,

Moyer, William "Bill" Fredrick - William “Bill” Fredrick Moyer, age 85, formerly of Parnell, Missouri died Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the Parkdale Manor Care Center, Maryville.

Bill was born August 18, 1929 in Maryville the son of the late Ralph E. and Mary M. (Stundon) Moyer.

Bill attended St. Patrick’s, Maryville High School and Northwest Missouri State University all of Maryville. He held a BS in both Agriculture and Education from Northwest.

Bill was a United States veteran having served his country as a Naval Aviator.

March 14, 1953, Bill was united in marriage to Esther B. Waske in Maryville. To this union six children were born; Steve, Peggy, Dave, Mick, Terry and Alan.
Bill was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Curry-Richardson-Sparks-Waldeier Post #528, both of Parnell.

Bill was an avid pilot following his 4 years in the Navy Air. He loved farming, especially cattle, but taught high school math and science for 16 years (1960 - 1976) in Albany, Missouri to help support his family. After retiring from teaching he began work as a rural mail carrier. Bill carried mail for Parnell from 1979 - 1993. He loved photography and computers. He wrote a daily blog and posted many pictures of his kids and grand kids there over the years. Bill loved the technology we have available today and wasn't afraid to tackle any new electronic device.
Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Ralph E. Jr., Don and Paul Moyer, an infant granddaughter and two great grandsons.

Murray, Lula Totten - Mrs Allen T. Murray, age 52, died at 1:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home in Skidmore following an extended illness. With the exception of a few years spent in Nebraska, Mrs Murray had lived in and near Skidmore all of her life.

Mrs Murray was the former Miss Lula Totten. Born July 27, 1888, on a farm west of Skidmore, she and Mr Murray were married there September 30, 1907.

She leaves her husband; a daughter, Mrs Charles Burnett, Beatrice, Neb; one son, Edgar, of the home; a granddughter, Bonnie Jean Burnett; four brothers, Floyd Totten, Mound City; Henry Totten, Quitman; and Ova and Ivan Totten, Lincoln, Neb., and one sister, Mrs Ida Stoff, Maitland.

Larry Lee Neal, 70, Maryville, Missouri, died Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at his home in Maryville.

Larry was born December 21, 1943, in Clarinda, Iowa to Robert Dean and Evelyn Lucille (Lee) Neal.

A 1962 graduate of Villisca High School, Larry was a meat cutter for Hy-Vee Food Stores, retiring after 46 years.

Larry married Connie Ann Rucker September 1, 1968, in Villisca, Iowa.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Maryville, and had served with the Iowa National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Robert Allie Rucker.

Larry is survived by his wife Connie Neal, of their home; son Kevin (Patty) Neal, Villisca, Iowa and daughter Nicole (Mike) Shields, Bethany, Missouri; his parents Robert and Evelyn Neal, Villisca, Iowa; grandchildren: Bryce, Cooper, and Kort Neal,and Grant and Ava Shields; mother-in-law Loah Rucker Hawhee, Bedford, Iowa; sisters: Janet (Jim) Beerman, Omaha, Nebraska, and Anne Pedersen, Fort Madison, Iowa; sister-in-law Jill (Don) Case, Villisca, Iowa and brother-in law Dennis (Melissa) Rucker, Algona, Iowa.

Neil, Kate - Mrs Kate Neil, age 68, a resident of Barnard seven years, died at her home at 3:30 o'clock this morning after a week's illness of influenza.

Mrs Neil was born June 22, 1875, near Springfield, Ill., the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary H. Turley Sell. She was married January 8, 1896 at Barnard, to John Neil, who preceded her in death December 10, 1934.

She is survived by five sons, Olive L., Blondin B., Stanley L., and Everette E. Neil, all of Barnard, and Pvt Walter L. Neil of a medical detachment of the U.S. army, who has been in active service in the South Pacific area since last November; one brother, George A Sell, Barnard; one sister, Mrs Grace Oliver, Kansas City; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clcok Thursday afternoon at the Christian church at Barnard. Burial will be in the Masonic cemetery at Barnard.

Junior was born January 16, 1922, in Guilford, Missouri the son of Alma and Tony (Meinecke) Nelson Sr.

A 1941 graduate of Guilford High School, he also attended Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa for two years. Junior was the owner and operator of the Nelson General Store in Guilford.

He married Brenda Kay Hedrick in Guilford in November of 1972

Junior served his country with the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Alma was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Guilford.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Kay Nelson (April 16, 2012);

Nelson, Kenneth Floyd - Kenneth Floyd Nelson, 92, Guilford, Missouri, died Monday, September 24, 2012, at Laverna Village Nursing Home, Savannah, Missouri.

Kenneth was born September 24, 1920 in Guilford, Missouri to Alma and Tony J. Meinecke Nelson, Sr.

He attended Whiteford Elementary and the Guilford High School (Class of 1935), and recieved a BS in Agriculture from the University of Missouri in 1940.

As a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army serving as a paratrooper during WW II, he saw combat in Rhineland, Rome-Arno, Sicily, Central Europe, and Naples -Foggia. Kenneth recieved a silver star, and a purple heart in February 27, 1945, Croix De Guerre, and 6 Bronze Stars for campaigns served in.

Kenneth married Lorna Jean Landers, January 27, 1946, in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Kenneth was baptised into the RLDS Church at Age 8, and was a member of the Community of Christ Church, Guilford, where he was an ordained minister.

He was preceded in death by three sisters: Lucy Marie Land, Bertha Miller Smith and Fiona Charlotte Greene.

Karla was born March 30, 1962, in Maryille, to Elaine (Simmons) Millsap and Gary Kunkel. She was a graduate of Maryville High School and had worked as a United Auto Worker at the Ford Motor Company in Claycomo, MO.

She was united in marriage to Steve Oglesby on August 24, 1996, at Bridal Cave in Camdenton, MO.

Preceding her in death were her maternal grandparents, O.L. "Buster" and Betty Simmons; paternal grandparents, George and Lula Kunkel; stepfather, Buster Millsap; stepbrother, Charlie Millsap; and a brother-in-law, Kirby Oglesby.

John Henry Pistole, 93, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014, at his home in Hopkins, MO, with his family by his side. John had been lovingly cared for by his wife, family, and SSM Hospice of NW Missouri.

Born on September 1, 1920, near Hopkins to Lena (Blake) and Ave Pistole, he was a 1930 graduate of Hopkins High School and a loyal member of the First Baptist Church in Hopkins.

On June 22, 1949, he was united in marriage to Edith Jean Browning in Maryville, MO. To this union two children were born, Wesley and Janyne.

Mr. Pistole served his country during World War II from 1942 to 1946 in the European theater. John was a teletype operator preforming duties in message centers in the First and Seventh Army in Germany, sending and receiving codes and clear-text messages.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dale and Charley, sister, Elizabeth Tribolet; grandson, Nicholas Leland and great-grandson, Hagen Leland.

He is survived by his wife Edith, of the home; son, Wesley (Marla), Hopkins, MO; daughter, Janyne (Robert) Leland, Evanston, WY; sister, Darlene Andrews, Hopkins; 4 grandsons; 4 step grandsons; 6 great grandsons; two great granddaughters; and 1 great-great grandson. He was born November 13, 1935 in Burlington Junction, the son of Horace Franklin and Fern Alfreda (Walker) Pitts. A graduate of Burlington Junction High school, Jack served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

He had worked for himself and many others during his lifetime.

Ramp, Carrie Rickard Coberly - Mrs Carrie Ramp, 74 years old, who made her home with her sister, Mrs Ida MClurg of Rea, died about 7 o'clock this morning at the St Francis hospital.

She was born in Indiana and was the former Miss Carrie Richard. Mrs Ramp, a former Nodaway county school teacher, was married to Douglas Coberly and moved to the state of Washington. He preceded her in death. Later she married Nathaniel Ramp, who died about six years ago. Since that time she has made her home with relatives.

She is also survived by another sister, Mrs Will Taylor, near Maryville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Price funeral Home.

Betty was born November 29, 1928, in Burlington Junction, Missouri to Harvey and Dora (Justus) Culver. She was a 1946 graduate of Burlington Junction, Missouri High School and attended Kansas City Business School.

Betty and Ferman D. Reed were married August 31, 1947, in Burlington Junction, Missouri.

A member of the Laura Street Baptist Church in Maryville, she was also a member of the Rolla-Dicks American Legion Auxiliary.

Preceding in death were her parents; brother Floyd Culver; sisters: Velma Hall, Marjorie Culver and Darlene Hogue.

Gene Renshaw 85, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville.

Gene was born on April 20, 1929 in Maryville; his parents were L. Cleo and Lora B. (McDowell) Renshaw. Gene was a lifelong resident of the Maryville area.

Gene was a graduate of the Maryville High School. His memberships included the First United Methodist Church, and the former Levi and Laces Square Dance Club. He was also a member of the Army National Guard.

Gene was a farmer and farmed west of Maryville his entire life until just recently.

On September 23, 1950, Gene was united in marriage to Judy G. Stickley, and she survives of Maryville.

Ringold, Elizabeth Ann Anderson - Elizabeth Ann Anderson Ringold 94, of Maryville, MO, passed peacefully from this life on August 22, 2012, at her home in Maryville.

Elizabeth Ann Botkin was born on January 13, 1918, to Halfred Payne and Lucy Edna (Barber) Botkin 4.5 miles west of Skidmore in the Burr Oak community. She attended Burr Oak country school and graduated from Skidmore High School in 1935. She taught in country schools while attending Northwest Missouri State Teacher College in Maryville, and upon graduation in 1940, became the first grade teacher at Horace Mann, where she stayed for three years.

On August 26, 1943, she married Elvin Lloyd Anderson in St. Joseph. They lived and farmed at the corner of Route DD and Burr Oak Road until they sold the cattle, rented the farm and retired to Maryville in 1980. In addition to being a farm wife, Elizabeth was involved in church work and 4-H. She loved flowers and gardening, and as 4-H leader for flower arranging, worked with several children who prepared demonstrations of flower arranging. Her goal was to make them comfortable with public speaking as well as learning to arrange flowers. While a 4-H Community Leader, she organized skits that involved the entire club and parents, and they won local, district and state awards for several years running. She was also often involved in organizing church programs of local and area talent. She eventually served a term on the extension council.

She was always a big user of the Maryville Public Library and was selected as their 1997 Hall of Fame recipient. She served as vice president of the Friends of the Library, 1981-86, as Friends president, 1986-88, and on the Board of Trustees, 1987-89.

Elizabeth and Howard Ringold were married on May 3, 1987, some time after losing their spouses, who passed away only a few days apart. Elizabeth became more involved in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), after she moved to Maryville, especially in the Junior America Citizens program. She and Howard, also a long time teacher, traveled to the schools in the county, encouraging principals and teachers to have their students participate in the various contests that involved writing and art, and they usually returned to celebrate the students’ success with a party as they had numerous state and national winners. At Opal Eckert’s request, she also became involved in collecting Heritage essays that were placed in the Maryville Public Library. The Nodaway County Historical Society invited her participation in their 1940’s oral history project. For these and other activities throughout her life, Nodaway Chapter honored her with the DAR Women in American History Award in 2008.

Elizabeth’s memberships included the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, Nodaway Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Association for Childhood Education (ACE), Mutual Improvement Club, and the Naomi Phoebe Circle of the Maryville First United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her first husband, Elvin L. Anderson, her second husband, Howard Ringold, and her sister Mary Rebekah Ruddell.

Sanford A. Rogers, 67, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Somerville, TN, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at his home in Maryville.

Sanford was born on October 9, 1946, in Somerville, to Marvin H. and Bennie M. (Temple) Rogers, Sr. His father preceded him in death. He was a US Army Veteran, and worked as a Radar Specialist.

In 1977 Sanford became a member and leader of the Boy Scouts of America. He was the Troop Leader of Troop 400, and Scout Master of Troop 74, both of Maryville, and the Crew Advisor for Crew 503. In 1982, he became a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say with Camp Geiger in St. Joseph, MO, and was currently Medicine Man Helpful Bowman. He was the District Representative to the Council Camping Committee; on the Council Executive Board, and after his retirement was on staff at Camp Geiger. He received the District Award of Merit in 1986, the Silver Beaver Award in 1990,and completed the Wood Badge Course.

He was also a NRA certified instructor in archery and pistols.

Sanford was of the Mormon faith and attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Maryville, MO.

In 2013, Sanford retired from NOCOMO in Maryville, MO, after 34 years of service. He had been the Production Manager, and later the Wood Shop Supervisor.

Saxton, Bert Lerry Jr - Bert Lerry Saxton, Jr., 90, Graham, Missouri, died Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at Tiffany Heights Nursing Home, Mound City, Missouri.

Bert was born April 22, 1924, in Maryville, Missouri to Bert L. and Margie DeWitt Saxton.

Bert was a farmer and a veteran of World War II serving in the Phillipines.

He first married Alta Jean Stull February 5, 1943, in Mound City, who preceded him in death August, 2008. He then married Evelyn Graham, on March 30, 2009, in Maryville, Missouri, who survives.

Preceding him in death were his first wife; son: Larry Saxton; sisters: Blanche McWilliams, Helen Marie Saxton, Mildred Collins and brothers: Ralph Ray, Richard, and Homer Lee Saxton.

Survivors include: his wife: Evelyn Saxton of their home, son: Rick Saxton, Fillmore, Missouri; daughters: Sandra (Joseph) Wojtowicz, Saint Joseph, Missouri, Linda Clark, Maryville, Missouri; brothers: Merill Saxton, Independence, Missouri and Kurt Saxton Conception, Missouri and sisters: Edna Saxton, Afton, Oklahoma and Norma Hammontree, Harrisonville, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Edna C. Schafer, 76, of Maryville, MO, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at her home with her family at her side.

Edna was born on March 6, 1938 in Maryville to A.A. and Eunice (Miller) Madden, who preceded her in death. She was preceded by her husband, Robert Schafer (1989); her daughter, Anita Schafer (1983); her son, Michael Schafer (1991), and by siblings Gerald Madden, Don Madden, Jim Madden, and Patricia Wilmes.

A lifelong resident of the Maryville area, Edna graduated from Ravenwood High School. She was a faithful member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Rockford Community Club. Edna loved to knit, cook, bake and spend time with family. She was formerly employed at Kawasaki, in Maryville, and the Smokehouse Restaurant, in Graham.

On February 23, 1957, Edna was united in marriage to Robert Schafer at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Maryville, MO.

Edna is survived by her children, Carolyn Schafer, Steven (Sara) Schafer, Lori (Stan) Kelleigh, Sharon (David) Miller, and Samuel Schafer, daughter in law, Mary Schafer; her siblings, Martha (Bob) Pope, Carole (Byron) Duke, Mary Coleman, Barb (Jerry) O’Connell, Ken (Carol) Madden, Ellen (Jim) Bolger, sister in law Connie Madden, and brother in law, Bill Wilmes; grandchildren, Tyler (Joel) Oliver, Luke Schafer, Dyllan Schafer, Nick Schafer, Allison Schafer, Garrett Miller, Ethan Miller, and Matt Wisdom; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her four-legged friend, Gizzy.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Maryville. The burial will follow in the St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Maryville, MO.

A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM, Friday, September 12, 2014, at the church, with visitation to follow from 7-9:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the SSM Hospice of NW Missouri or the Heartland Clinic Cancer Center, Maryville facility.

Schieber, Christine Ann Marth - Christine Ann Schieber, 55, Ravenwood, Missouri, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at her home in rural Ravenwood.

Christine was born November 29, 1958, in Saint Paul, Minnesota to Roger Baldwin and Margaret Beatrice (Hofer) Marth.

She was a Walker Minnesota High School graduate, attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Missouri, and was a homemaker.

Christine married David Schieber on November 29, 1980, in Maryville, Missouri.

Christine was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville.

Preceding in death was her father Roger Baldwin Marth.

Survivors include husband David, Ravenwood, three children Heather Schieber and husband Jeff Campbell, Matthew Schieber, Maryville, Alicia Schieber, Ravenwood, mother Margaret Marth, LaPorte, Minnesota, brother Mike (Cathy) Marth, Moorhead, Minnesota, sisters: Michelle (Bill) Brittain, Ft. Charles Jay "C. Jay" Smith 83, Clearmont, Missouri, died Thursday, September 18, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri.

C. Jay was born September 13, 1931, in Clearmont, Missouri to Charley Jerome and Edith Pauline "Pete" Wallace Smith.

A 1949 graduate of Clearmont High School , he received a B.S. in Education in 1958 from Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College, and received a Master of Arts degree at Colorado State College in 1962. He retired as a teacher and coach at Iowa Western, Clarinda, Iowa.

C. Jay served his country in the Unted States Air Force. and married Agnes Faye Neff on November 17, 1952, in Bryan, Texas.

A member of the Clearmont Methodist Church, he was a former Mayor of Clearmont, where he worked for the betterment of the Clearmont community. He played softball and coached girl's softball. C.Jay was known as a "good" softball pitcher.

Preceding in death were his parents, a son Richard Jerome Smith,
and a sister Gertrude Smith.

Survivors include his wife Faye Smith of their home, daughter Kathryn (Robin) Smith, Iowa City, Iowa, and son Michael (Mary) Smith, Maryville, Missouri, sister Charlene DeShazer, Pell City, Alabama, and grandchildren Meghan Smith, Samuel Smith, Lucy (Nate) Swartzentruber, and Aubrey (Joseph) Green.

Spagnotti, Peter Angelo - Peter Angelo Spagnotti, Sr., 89, of Omaha, NE, died in his home on September 15, 2012. He was born October 25, 1922, in Mohawk, MI, to Dominic and Anna (Martori) Spagnotti. He attended school at Calumet High School. He left school and later completed his GED at Offutt Air Force Base. Peter was drafted into military service in 1943 and served in the Pacific. He was stationed at bases in the Marshall Islands, Guam, and Okinawa where he built runways. He loved to tell of seeing the entire Pacific fleet gathered in preparation of invading mainland Japan prior to their surrender. Peter chose to make the military his career and served multiple tours of duty until his retirement in 1985 which includes 20 years of active military and 19 years of civil service. During his time as an NCO, he received several commendations for his exemplary service. He achieved the rank of Tech Sergeant. One of his favorite moments was unloading President Kennedy’s car from Air Force One for the President. Peter finished his military career at Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, NE, and made his home in Omaha, NE, where he married Betty Jane Baker in June 1965 and had three sons.

Peter was one of the hardest-working, most thrifty men you could know. After his retirement, he kept busy recycling steel, copper, tin, aluminum, and cardboard. He was a master at repurposing items and would let nothing go to waste. He was a skilled gardener and always produced bumper crops. He cultivated grapes from vines that were originally brought from Italy by his family before his birth. He would lend a hand to anyone who needed help. He enjoyed hunting deer and almost always filled his tag.

Peter is survived by his three sons, their spouses, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren: Peter Spagnotti, Jr., Tena Rodgers, and Peter Spagnotti III of New Hampton, MO; William and Linda Spagnotti and Noah, Josiah, Elijah, Lilliana, and Matthias of Hooper, NE; Patrick and Jill Spagnotti and Jacob, Logan, and Sophia of Omaha, NE; Ashley Carmona of Clearfield, IA; and Samantha Smith of Omaha, NE. He is survived by his sister Sarfina Codere of Lake Linden, MI, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, Feb 22, 1994; parents, Dominic and Anna; his brothers James, Dominic, Antone, and Anniable; and his sisters Mary, Christina, Anna, Carolina, and Rose.

Visitation will be from 2-4pm with a wake service at 4pm on September 23rd at Price Funeral Home, and a Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00am on September 24th at St. Gregory in Maryville, MO. Burial will follow the service at the Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, MO.

Spire, Mercedes Wilmes - Mercedes Spire, 79 of Maryville, Missouri died on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Village Care Center, Inc in Maryville, Missouri.
She was born January 5, 1933 in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of the late William and Laura (Thompson) Wilmes. She was married to Phillip H. Spire, February 11, 1953 in Maryville, MO.
She was a 1950 graduate of Maryville High School. In 1978 she graduated from the NWMSU Licensed Practical Nursing Program. Mercedes worked in the nursing field for over 19 years and was employed by St. Francis Hospital before her retirement. She was also a 30 year volunteer for the American Red Cross.
Mercedes was a member of the Business and Professional Women and was chosen as their woman of the year in 1993.
She was a member of St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church and the church Guild, Maryville, Missouri.
Surviving are son, Mark J. (Deloris) Spire, Bedford, IA, daughters; Joan (Fred) Contreras, Shawnee, KS, Beth (Wesley) Parker, Maryville, MO, brothers; Bill Wilmes, Fred Wilmes; sisters; JoAnn Cordell, Mary Luke, Patricia Schieber, Laura Luke, Dorothy Schmitz, Jenny Jermain; four grandsons; Travis Spire, Justin Valentine, Wesley Parker II, Colton Parker and one granddaughter Beth Meek; 10 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband Phil (July 9, 2011), son, James Spire, brother, Jim Wilmes, and son-in-law, Craig Corrough.

Stafford, Verda Esther Frey - Verda Esther Stafford, age 103, Maryville, Missouri, formerly of Savannah, Missouri died Monday, September 17, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

She was born February 19, 1909 at West Plains, Missouri, the daughter of the late S.B. (Samuel) and Ethel I. Smith Frey.

Verda was united in marriage to Ernest L. Stafford, December 26, 1930 in Skidmore, Missouri. He preceded her in death in January of 1975. Others preceding her in death were two brothers S.E. and Carl Turpin Jr., sister Lou Ella Mitchell and her step-father Carl A. Turpin, Sr.

She was a graduate of Ordway High School, Ordway, Colorado and Northwest Missouri State Teachers College receiving a B.S. in Elementary Education. Her teaching career spanned 38 years in both Nodaway and Andrew County Schools. Verda taught piano lessons and served as an accompanist on many occasions.

Her memberships include: Savannah First Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Savannah Retired Teachers, Sew More Quilters Club, all of Savannah and the Missouri Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include a brother William (Chris) A. Turpin, Springfield, Missouri; sister Mary (Wayne) Sharp, Skidmore, Missouri; nieces, nephews; great nieces and great nephews; and a host of friends that brought great enjoyment during her one hundred plus years of life.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, September 20, in Miriam Cemetery, Maryville under the direction of Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Strohmeyer, George - Brother George Strohmeyer OSB. 92, Conception, Missouri died Monday, August 25, in St Stephen’s Infirmary, Conception Abbey.

Br. George was born June 20, 1922 in Benoit, Wisconsin, the son for Engelbert and Frances (Boehm) Strohmeyer. He served in the US Army as a young man.

Br George professed as a Monk on January 15, 1978 at Corpus Christi Abbey in Texas. While there he worked as a carpenter, tailor, maintenance supervisor and Prior. He transferred to Conception Abbey in April of 2002.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers: Leonard and Lawrence Strohmeyer; sisters: Cecilia Pezderic, Lucille Urinko; Agnes Watson, Ann Hause and infant: Frances Strohmeyer.

Survivors include his Monastic Confreres; sisters: Mrs. Clara Racine, New London, Wisconsin; Mrs. Deloris Suminski, Ashland, Wisconsin and Miss Alice Strohmeyer, Washburn, Wisconsin and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thompson, Virgil M. - One person killed in traffic accident in 1943 - The one traffic death for the county, a like number for 1942, was Virgil M. Thompson, Burlington Junction farm worker, who was hit by a truck driven by a Westboro man as he was walking home on the highway in August. He was crossing a bridge in the same direction as the truck and the driver did not see the man, who was returning from town with an armload of groceries for his family, due to the fact that it was dusk and the lights of an oncoming truck obstructed his vision. He swerved to avoid the man, but the edge of the stock rack caught Thompson and threw him into the concrete walls of the bridge. ...

Wallace, Welton - Welton Wallace, 92 of Maryville, Missouri passed awayThursday, September 6, 2012, at Parkdale Manor Care Center, Maryville, Missouri.

Welton was born March 6, 1920, the son of Albert and Ada (Huls) Wallace in Wilcox, Missouri. They later moved to east of Clearmont, Missouri where he grew up and lived in his early married life. He married Frances Howell, May 18, 1940 who preceded him in death, April 13, 1994. As a young man Welton professed his belief in the grace of Jesus Christ at the Christian Church in Clearmont. He and Frances moved to west of Hopkins in 1948 where they lived until moving to Maryville in 1981. Welton was active in the Christian Church of Hopkins and later at the First Christian Church, Maryville.

Welton farmed or assisted his son with the farming into his 80's.

He sold Cargil seed corn and from 1963 to 1983, he was an insurance agent for Farmer's Mutual and Columbia Mutual. Welton enjoyed the farm, family activities and traveling to see family, maintaing his yard, sports (especially the St. Louis Cardinals), sending and receiving cards, and listening to music. When able, he was a regular at the Ravenwood music shows and Junction Cafe's music in Bedford, Iowa. Welton was a board member of the Hopkins Fire Protection District.

Welton is survived by his two children, Carolyn (Darwin) Bears of Macon, Missouri, Dick (Dee) Wallace of Hopkins, Missouri, four grandchildren and their families Bret and Brad Wallace, Maryville, Carmen Ceresa, Naperville, Ilinois, and Graig Bears of Denver, Colorado, one brother, Gerald Wallace of Clarinda, Iowa, one sister, Mary Payton-Love of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and 6 great grandchildren.

Welton was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one sister, Shirley Wallace.

The family will receive friends 12:30-1:30 an hour prior to the service Monday, September 10, 2012, at the First Christian Church, Maryville. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Clearmont.

Widger, Helen Lucille Howlett - Helen Lucille Widger, 86 of Maryville, Missouri died on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at St Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

She was born February 9, 1926 in Dewitt, Nebraska, the daughter of the late Cyril and Audrey Nicholas Howlett. Helen was united in marriage to Calvin Richard Widger, November 28, 1952 in Dewitt. He preceded her in death January 8, 1993. She was also preceded in death by one sister Louise Buhrmann.

Helen was a graduate of Dewitt High School, and recieved her BS in Elementary Education from Peru State College, Peru, Nebraska. She had formerly taught elementary school at Wauneta, Nebraska.

Her memberships and hobbies included, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Maryville, being an active volunteer at the Maryville Ministry Center, and an avid Bearcat fan.

Surviving are daughter, Diane Widger, Overland Park, KS; one aunt Alice Niemann, Wilbur, Nebraska; one niece Deanna Suhr; one nephew Mark Buhrmann, both of Lincoln, Nebraska and a host of friends and cousins.

Juanita L. Wooten-Brand, 70, of Savannah, and formerly of Maryville, MO, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014, at her home in Savannah.

Juanita was born on February 15, 1944, in Nodaway County Missouri, to Robert Bruce Jabusch, and Mary Ellen (Rowlett- Veylupek) they preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her brother, Jim Jabusch, and her sister, Linda Blackford, both in 2014.

Juanita graduated from Maryville High School, she had been a homemaker, and later did home health work in the Savannah area. She formerly attended the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville. Juanita lived the past 32 years in Savannah.

She leaves behind her 2 sons, Randy (Karla) Wooten, and Robert (Sue) Wooten, both of Maryville, MO; 6 grandchildren, Ryan Jones, Westley Wooten, both of Kansas City, MO, and Mataya Wooten, Maryville, MO, Zane Stiens, KatieLynn and Remington Wooten, all of Maryville, MO; 3 great grandchildren, Colby Jones, and Gracyn Jones, both of Kansas City, MO, and Quentin Stiens, Maryville, MO; 2 sisters, JoAnna (Donald) Pankau, Pickering, MO, and Janice (Denny) Meeks, Lander, WY, and brother Richard (Linda) Veylupek, Cody, WY.

She was cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. A memorial to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
