Catherine was born April 29, 1923, in Nemaha County, Nebraska to Chester and Ruth (Peabody) Clifton.

Catherine was a homemaker.

She married Vernon Leroy Hall November 4, 1942, in Maryville, Missouri.

Catherine was a member of the Laura Street Baptist Church, Nodaway County Garden Club and the Nodaway County Chapter of the Red Cross Volunteers.

Preceding Ruth in death was her husband Vernon Leroy Hall on February 28, 1983.

Survivors include: son Robert Hall, Darien GA. and daughters Verlene Taggs, Fort Dodge, IA. and Judy Acklin, Waterloo, IA; brother Raymond Clifton, Tecumseh, NE; and sisters Rose Kerner, Tecumseh, NE, and June Thomas, Hamburg, IA.; nine grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.

Hall, Hazel "Ruth" Shannon

Hazel "Ruth" Hall, 87, of Maryville, MO, passed away on August, 6, 2013, at her home with her family at her side. Ruth was born October 24, 1925, in Middle Fork Township, Gentry County, MO, to Charlie and Maggie (Harris) Shannon.

She graduated from Worth High School in 1943, and later worked for 15 years as a Secretary/Receptionist for Dr. W. R. Jackson. She then spent 15 years as the secretary for Laura Street Baptist Church and as a part time waitress at the Cardinal Inn, all of Maryville, MO.

On July 29, 1944, she married Vincent Warren Hall in Troy, KS. They spent 47 years together before his death in 1991.

Ruth had been a member of the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, for 56 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; sisters, Leona and Thelma Shannon, Amanda Myers, Fern Bollinger; and brothers, Elvin, Carter, Basil, Earl and Leland Shannon.

She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Collier, Maryville, MO, Hazel (LaVern) Cummings, St. Joseph, MO; 3 grandchildren, Annette (David) Bennington, Saint Joseph, MO. Brent (Debbie) Collier Valentine, NE, and Tina (Andy) Welty Lincoln, NE; 8 great Grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; and several Nieces and Nephews

Hansen, Marjorie Michau McDonald - Marjorie Michau Hansen, 60, Maryville, Missouri, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at Lake Regional Hospital, Osage Beach, Missouri.

Marj was born November 4, 1952, in Maryville, Missouri to Cyrus Miles and Lillian Bohm Townsend McDonald.

A 1970 graduate of Maryville R-II High School, she then received her Bachelor and Master's Degrees from Northwest Missouri State University. She taught elementary education for more than 30 years, beginning with two years at Nodaway Holt School, before retiring from Eugene Field Elementary School, Maryville, where she taught third grade.

Marj married Paul Alma Hansen, Jr. May 19, 1973, in Maitland, Missouri.

Marjorie was a member of the Skidmore United Methodist Church, Missouri Retired Teachers Association, Missouri State Teacher's Association and Community Teacher's Association, where she held many offices including President.

Preceding her in death were her parents and father and mother-in-law: Paul and Donna Velma Hansen. After Marj's mother passed away in 1969, friend Neola Rauch stepped in and continued raising Marj and her two brothers.

She is survived by her husband Paul, of the home in Maryville, son Justin Hansen and wife Jen, St. Louis, Missouri; daughter Ashley Reynolds and husband Heath, Columbia, Missouri and grandson Van Hansen, brothers Don (Debbie) McDonald and Mick (Kayla) McDonald, both of Leawood, Kansas, stepmother-in-law Donna Hansen, Hamilton, Missouri and many nieces and nephews

Hansen, Paul Alma - Paul Alma Hansen, Sr, 87, Skidmore, Missouri died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville, Missouri.

He was born November 20, 1925, in Lamonte, Missouri to Thomas and Vivian Bailey Hansen.

Paul married Velma Peter March 25, 1944 in Troy Kansas. She preceded him in death January 5, 1999.

On June 5, 2006 Paul and Donna Cummings were united in marriage in Troy, Kansas.

A lifetime farmer, Paul was a member of the Sam Albright American Legion Post #5ll, Skidmore and was a past president of the Nodaway County Farm Bureau.

He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

Also preceding him in death were his parents, son-in-law Jackie Lee Appleman (September 15, 2008), two brothers: Keith and Kelmer (Roberta) Hansen and sister Thelma (Charles) Johnson.

Surviving are son, Paul Hansen, Jr (Marjorie) Maryville, 2 daughters, Sherry Flanary (Paul), Maryville and Jean Appleman, Bella Vista, Arkansas; 8 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Cora Hansen Donahoo, Cole Camp, Missouri; 2 step-sons: Rick (Mickie) Cummings and Kent (Cindy) Cummings; 2 step-daughters: Jackie (John) McGee and Julie (Todd) Evans, all of Hamilton, Missouri;

Mrs. Emogene G. Hardisty, 89, Maryville, MO, and formerly of Burlington Junction, MO, passed away on Sunday, February 03, 2013, at the Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville.

Emogene was born on September 10, 1923, in Silver City, Iowa, to Ernest G. and Osie L. (Leedy) Growcock. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alva Hardisty in 2005; sister Carolene Growcock; brothers, John Granger, Chester Growcock; grandson, Mark Corbalby.

Emogene was a member and attended the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Maryville, MO. She worked as a sales clerk with JC Penneys.

Survivors; daughter, Dayle J. (Jay) Murphy, Palmdale, CA; sister, Lois M. Short, Burlington Junction, MO; brother, Robert (Emma Lea) Crowcock, Clarkridge, AR; 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hardisty has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO.

Helen Marie Harr, 97 of Maryville Missouri, died on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at her home in Maryville.

Helen was born November 17, 1915 in Merrill, Wisconsin, the daughter of Percy and Ella (Zeuske) Cotey.

She was a graduate of Merrill High School in Merrill, Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin  in Stevens Point, after which Helen taught school in Junction City and Clintonville, Wisconsin.

She married Dr John Lauren Harr on September 19, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois.

A teacher and homemaker, Helen was a member of St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Community, St

Gregory’s Guild, the Wisconsin State Teachers’ Organization and the Faculty Dames of  Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville.

Preceding Helen in death were her husband: Dr John Harr on September 10, 1991; her parents; a sister: Nina Krueger and Brother: Patrick Cotey.

Survivors include her children: Bill Harr and Patrick (Teri) Harr, both of Maryville; Robert (Paula) Harr, Leawood, Kansas; Barbara (Joe) Logan, South Padre Island, Texas;  sisters: Evelyn, Wachtl, Wausau, Wisconsin and Gail Diver, San Diego, California; grandchildren: Elizabeth (Francis) Pineda, Lori (Brian) Sheehan; Nick Glasnapp, Traci (Mark) Kennedy; Tony (Laura) Logan; Lisa (Kevin) Youngblood, Audra Harr, Krista Harr and Robert Harr;  great-grandchildren: Alexander and Anderson Bricksin,  Austin Pineda, Alec Frasier, Brianna, Kyle and Jessica Sheehan, Luke and Joseph Logan, Lauren and Brooke Youngblood and Damien Tunell.

Hart, Opal Lucille Groomer - Opal Lucille Hart, 94, Lenexa, Kansas died on Friday, March 1, 2013, at Lakeview Village Retirement Center.

Lucy was born December 29, 1918 in Pattonsburg, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Leola (Buster) Groomer.

She was united in marriage to Francis Gerald Hart, August 3, 1937.

Lucy was a graduate of Paseo High School, Kansas City, Missouri.

Her life was defined as a devoted wife to Frank who preceded her in death fifteen years to the day; they were  members of the Camdenton United Methodist Church. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters Ann Lloyd and Marjorie Dyer.

Surviving are sisters, Roselee Wilkes, Bisbee, AZ, Dorothy Dyer, Overland Park, KS, eleven nieces and nephews.

Hawkins, Laverta Ethel Gray Riley Wilson - Laverta Ethel Hawkins, daughter of James Walter Gray and Ethel Swaim Gray was born on November 19, 1918 in Taylor County Iowa and passed from this life on November 15, 2013 at Parkdale Care Center in Maryville Missouri, four days before her 95th birthday.
She graduated from Hopkins High School in 1937 and married Frank Oren Riley on May 22, 1937 in Grant City, Missouri. To this union three sons were born: Maurice Dean, Larry Gene and Frank Walter Riley.
Her first husband Frank, was killed on March 26, 1943 in a truck accident in Oregon. Laverta returned to Hopkins, Missouri. On January 20, 1945 she married Milo Wilson. Together they operated the Wilson Supply Store and the Wilson Grocery Store in Hopkins, Missouri for many years. Milo passed away in January, 1975. She married James Hawkins in Mesa, Arizona on January 26, 1980. They enjoyed traveling, living in Arizona in the winter months and spending time with friends and relatives. Laverta was a fifty year member of the Order of Eastern Star and held several offices over the years. In addition, she was a Worthy Advisor for the Rainbow girls. She was a member of the Hopkins Christian Church.
Laverta was raised during the Great Depression and was the oldest of five daughters. She learned to work hard with her dad. She kept the same work ethic her entire life and instilled the same in her sons. Laverta faced many obstacles in her lifetime. She was widowed at the age of 24 with two young sons and expecting a third one. In 1975 she was again widowed and left with a business to run.
Those relatives who preceded Laverta in death were her parents, husbands: Frank Riley, Milo Wilson and Jim Hawkins, brother John Harvey Gray, sisters Irma Gill, Marcella O'Brien, Emily Arieta Gordon and Irene Schwindt, her brothers-in-law, step-daughter Linda (Hawkins) Villar, granddaughter Lisa (Riley) Willey and great-grandson Phillip Landess.
She leaves to cherish her memory sons Maurice (wife Donna) Riley, Hopkins, Missouri, Larry (wife Barbara) Riley, Greenfield, Iowa and Frank (wife Dianne) Riley, Osceola, Iowa, step-son Duane (wife Beverly) Wilson, Winnemucca, Nevada and cousin Theda Bennett, Sun City Center, Florida. In addition, she is survived by 14 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. She enjoyed spending time with her family. They were the love of her life.

Henderson, Thomas G. - Thomas G. Henderson, 75 of Maryville, Missouri died Friday, March 29, 2013, at his rural Maryville, Missouri residence.

Born February 22, 1938 in Aberdeen, Idaho, Tom was the son of Clyde Clay and Dorothy May (Jarmin) Henderson. He was one of eight children. Tom married Marjorie Ann (Carr) Carroll January 10, 2008 in Princeton, Missouri.

A high school graduate and a retired shop foreman, Tom was a member of the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, and Missouri Campers On A Mission.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and his parents.

Surviving are his wife Marjorie of their home, son Mike Henderson, and daughters, Marilyn Drebar, Susie Myers and Vicki Jo Falkerson and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

An 11:00 AM memorial service will will be held Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville

Henggeler, Donald Francis - Donald Francis Henggeler, 54, Maryville, Missouri, died April 27, at his home in Maryville.

Donald was born September 19, 1958, in Maryville to Vincent William and Anna Agatha McQuinn Henggeler.

A 1977 graduate of Jefferson C-123 High School, Conception Jct., Missouri, he was a Forge Technician at Federal Mogul Corporation, Maryville.

He married Marilyn Sue Ginther August 16, 1986, in Stanberry, Missouri.

Donald was a member of the St. Gregory Catholic Church, Maryville, Knights of Columbus, Stanberry and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and his family.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Henggeler.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn Henggeler; children: Sarah and Matthew Henggeler, all of the home in Maryville; four brothers: Raymond (Geneva) Henggeler, Ravenwood, Missouri, James (Cathy) Henggeler, Guilford, Missouri, Michael (Anita) Henggeler, Ravenwood, Missouri and Martin (Kim) Henggeler, Barnard, Missouri; sister, Teresa (Greg) Stuart, Stanberry, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A public and family rosary will be held 3:00 pm, Tuesday, April 30 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Tuesday, also at the church. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 pm following the visitation.

Frances Louise Henry, 89, Maryville, Missouri, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at Heartland Regional Medical Center, Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Frances was born April 27, 1924, in Cainsville, Missouri to Virgil Joseph and Grace Amanda (Craig) Willis.

A graduate of Horace Mann High School, Louise formerly operated a daycare center.

She married Welburn Hill "Tommy" Thompson on August 4, 1943 in Troy Kansas, who preceded Louise in death (May 10, 1985). On March 14, 1991, Louise married Donald Richard Henry in Maryville. He also preceded her in death (March 15, 2009).

Frances was a member of the Laura Street Baptist Church,Maryville, Rolla Dick American Legion Auxiliary, Burlington Junction, Missouri, and the Widowed Persons Group of Nodaway County.

Preceding in death were her parents, husbands and brother Lloyd Willis.

Survivors include son Dr. Lloyd (Evelyn) Thompson, Lake Mary, Florida, grandson Trevor (Cathy) Thompson, Neenah, Wisconsin, half sister Bessie Lorene Harris, Bethany, Missouri and great-grandchildren Zachary and Zoe Thompson.

Hilbert, Wilbur LeRoy

Wilbur LeRoy Hilbert, 91, of Maryville, Missouri, (formerly of Skidmore, Missouri) died Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Golden Living Care Center, Maryville.

Wilbur was born on January 20, 1922, West of Maryville, the son of Curtis Clarkson and   Mildred Cora (Brown) Hilbert.  After  graduating from Skidmore High School he joined the US Army.  Wilbur was awarded three (3) Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, a Presidential Citation and a Purple Heart for his service during World War II.

After he was discharged from the Army in 1945, he came home to Nodaway County to farm with his family.

Wilbur was a member of the Skidmore, Missouri Christian Church.

Preceding Wilbur in death were his parents and a brother: Lawrence Hilbert.

He is survived by nephews: Larry Hilbert, Soloman, Kansas; Roger Hilbert, Bennett, Colorado Rick Hilbert, Mound City, Missouri and John Hilbert, Bloomfield, Iowa; three cousins:  Margaret Goslee, and Eva Peter, both of Skidmore and Beverly Myers, Canton, South Dakota.

Holbrook, Lorraine "Sis" Partridge - Lorraine "Sis" Holbrook, 73 of Maryville, Missouri died on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Lorraine was born February 20, 1939 in Maryville, Missouri, daughter of the late Charles and Mildred (Mayes) Partridge, Sr.

She was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Holbrook, December 12, 1960 in Caruthersville, Missouri. Bob preceded her in death as did one son, Robert "Sonny" Holbrook Jr.; and three brothers Jack Partridge, Sr., Thomas and Charles "Buddy" Partridge, Jr.

Lorraine was a graduate of Horace Mann High School and was an independant sales representative for Avon Products. Her memberships included Calvary Chapel Church and the Eagles Lodge Auxillary both of Maryville.

Surviving are daughters, Codi (Jamie) Wymore, Hopkins, Missouri, Dawn "Tonei" (Juan Hernandez) Holbrook, Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Julia Partridge, Maryville; sister-in-laws, Ginnia, JoAnn, and Sue Partridge; three aunts, Mary Louise Byergo, Mary Sturm, and Beverly Mayes; grandchildren Whitney and Antonio Holbrook, Halee, Jordan and Chaselynn Wymore, and Stacey Kenter; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 -11:30 AM on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Eagle's Lodge in Maryville, where a luncheon will follow the services.

Hollingsworth, Lavon Rae -Lavon Rae Hollingsworth, 89, Maryville, Missouri, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at her home in Maryville. Lavon was a retired nurse and co-owner of Hollingsworth Peonies Nursery.

Lavon was born May 31, 1924, in Atchison, Kansas to Albert John and Mari Willa (Mayfield) Wohlgemuth.

A 1942 graduate of Atchison High School, and also a graduate of the Cushing Nursing School, Leavenworth, Kansas in 1945.

She first married Robert Parker Tretheway, October 16, 1945. After Robert's death she married Don Hollingsworth on July 30, 1993, in Atchison, Kansas.

Lavon was a member of the Camp Creek United Methodist Church, Cummings, Kansas, American Peony Society, and the Pony Express Iris Society and Past President of Maryville Garden Club,

Lavon's nursing career mirrored Robert's TWA career, taking her to Pasadena, California and St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. A move to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia found Lavon caring for other members of the American community. Returning to Kansas City, she worked at the TWA Overhaul Base, Worlds of Fun, and Swope Park Nursing Home.

Lavon became a true peony enthusiast working alongside Don in developing a thriving commercial peony nursery. During the past 20 years she immensely enjoyed attending the annual APS conventions, kindling dear friendships and promoting Hollingsworth originations and propagations.

Preceding in death were her parents, her first husband Robert Tretheway,
February 14, 1981, infant son Dean George Tretheway, and two brothers Albert John Wohlgemuth and Melvin Wohlgemuth.

Jackson, W.R. - W.R. Jackson, 93, Bolckow, Missouri, died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Living Community of St. Joseph, Saint Joseph, Missouri.

W.R. was born December 2, 1919, in Maryville, Missouri to Roy E and Lila Marie (Wells) Jackson.

He married Arvina Christina Mueller, May 17, 1969, in Chillicothe, Missouri.

A 1937 graduate of Guilford High School, he was a retired meat inspector for the United States Department of Agriculture, and former Chief Deputy for the Nodaway County Sheriff's Office from 1958-1964. Prior to that he had raised livestock and was a grain farmer.

W.R. was a member of the Elks Club Lodge #760 ( Past Exalted Ruler and Past District Deputy) and the Eagles Lodge # 3669 both of Maryville.

Preceding in death were his parents and brothers Lloyd T. and Trubee Jackson.

Survivors include his wife Arvina Christina Jackson, stepson Larry Walby, Chandler, Arizona, nephew Lloyd Jackson, Bolckow, Missouri, niece Lila Jackson Pennington, Jefferson City, Missouri and several great and great great nieces and nephews.

Jacobsen, Trudy Jane Clark

Trudy Jane Jacobsen, 44, of Maryville, MO, passed away, Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, MO, after a short illness.

Trudy was born on October 30, 1968, in Corning, IA, to Gene and Judy (Page) Clark. She graduated from Creston High School in 1987, and then came Maryville to attend college. She received her B.S. in Business Management from Northwest Missouri State University, and had also worked on her Master’s Degree at Northwest. She was a resident of Maryville for over 20 years, and a great supporter of athletics at Northwest

Trudy worked as a Supervisor for Aramark Food Services on the Northwest campus for the past 16 years. She attended the First United Methodist Church, and was a member of Today’s Civic Women, both of Maryville.

She married Monte D. Jacobsen in Maryville, MO, and he survives of the home. James, Kyle Alan - Kyle Alan James, 24, Burlington Jct. Missouri died Monday, March 25, 2013.

He was born May 11, 1988 in Maryville to Rodney and Denise Merrigan James.

He was a 2006 graduate of West Nodaway High School in Burlington Jct. and was employed with Farmer Frame and Auto in Quitman, as a paint and body worker.

Kyle was preceded in death by his grandfathers: Jim Merrigan, Larry James and Robert Drummond.

Survivors are his mother and step-father Denise and Donnie Drummond, Burlington Jct.; father and step-mother Rodney and Rhonda James, Maryville; Brother Jason (Roxy) James, Ravenwood; 4 step-sisters: Tiffany Shively, Brandi Shively and Nikkayla Schulte, Maryville and Shelly (Steven) Marriott, Clearmont; step-brother Nathan (Crissy) Drummond, Tarkio; grandmothers Bereneda James, Bethany, Rosalee Merrigan and Scharlene Drummond, both of Maryville and aunts, uncles, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Birt H. Johnson, 95, of Skidmore, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, MO.

Birt was born on May 10, 1917, in Toad Holler, near Clearmont, MO. He had formerly resided in the Clarinda and College Springs, IA, vicinity, and moved to Skidmore when he was 12 years old. He graduated from Skidmore High School.

His parents were Elmer A. and Letha Maude (Davison) Johnson, and preceded him in death. Birt was the last living of 10 Johnson siblings. Those that went before him were: Martha Cade, Margaret McKinley, Zora Orme, Lester Johnson, Sam Johnson, Leona Brown, Delmer Johnson, Katherine Lewis, and Ruth Wilson

On October 23, 1938, Birt was united in marriage to Mary Alice Newton, in Skidmore, MO.

In 1943, Birt was drafted by the US Navy, and served his country during WW II.

His memberships included the Skidmore Christian Church, Skidmore Masonic Lodge #511, AF & AM, Skidmore Lions Club, member of the former Sam R. Albright American Legion Post 411, an original member of the Skidmore Housing Board, Community Betterment Board of Skidmore, and the Skidmore Pumkin Show Committee.

After service, Birt owned and operated the Johnson Skelly service station for over 45 years in Skidmore. After retiring, he continued to repair T.V.’s and appliances in the area.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Johnson, of the home; 2 daughters, Connie Wilson, Centennial, CO, and, Sharon Ann (Kenneth) Strauch, Skidmore, MO; 4 grandchildren, Kelly (Brett) Coffelt, Kansas City, MO, Casey (Angie) Strauch, Salem, NE, Tama Serfoss and Tyson Serfoss, both of Centennial, CO; 2 sister in laws, Inez Boyer, St. Joseph, MO, and Liz Newton, Savannah, MO; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore, MO. Friends may stop by the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home to sign the register after 2:00 PM Friday. No formal visitation is planned. The family will gather at Newton’s Hall in Skidmore after services.

Johnson, Franklin Dale "Frank"

Franklin Dale (Frank) Johnson, 60, of Graham, MO, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at his home in Graham.

Frank was born on March 10, 1953, near Skidmore, MO, to Dale Dorman and Virginia Sue (West) Johnson, they preceded him in death.

He was a graduate of West Nodaway High School, Burlington Junction, MO. He then received his B.S. in Mathematics and a minor in Computer Sciences at Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, MO. He later received his Master’s Degree from Northwest. He had lived in Espanola, N.M. before moving to Graham in 2012.

Frank was a computer programmer and computer trouble shooter for the State of New Mexico for over 25 years, retiring in 2012, he had also done computer work for T.W.A. in Kansas City, MO. Frank also was employed with the New Mexico Mounted Police for many years, working nights and weekends.

He was a member of the N.R.A., and the New Mexico Sheriff’s Association

His survivors include 2 sisters, Vivian (Sam) Wright, St. Joseph, MO, and Frances Hammond, Omaha, NE; a cousin who was raised with Frank, John E. (Jane) West, Kansas City, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. The burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore, MO. Rev. Don Barnett will be the minister

Johnston, Donald Gene - Donald Gene Johnston, 69, Kansas City, Missouri, died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Truman Medical Center, Lakewood, Kansas City, Missouri.

Don was born in Maryville, Missouri March 27, 1944, to John William and Lila Marie Gray Johnston. They preceded him in death. He graduated in 1962 from West Nodaway R-1 High School, Burlington Junction, Missouri.

Don worked many years in the banking industry and then later also worked for the Drug Enforcement agency in Kansas City.

A lifetime member of the Clearmont, Missouri Methodist Church, Don was a devout Christian.

Surviving Don are his brothers Gary Johnston, Clearmont and Ronald (Ron) Johnston and wife, Ada, Raymore, Missouri and many nieces and nephews.

There will be open visitation where friends may stop by anytime at Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Wilda Josephine Kearby, 83, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville.

Josephine was born in Bolckow, MO, on December 15, 1929, to Alfred L. and Pauline (Davis) Wilson. She had lived many years in the Maryville area, and worked in housekeeping at area motels.

Survivors include her daughters, Verna L. Kearby, and Sue Ellen Kearby, both of Maryville, MO, and other relatives.

Mrs. Kearby’s body has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. No services or visitation are planned at this time. The inurnment will be at a later date in the Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, MO

Keever, Carol Joyce - Carol Joyce Keever, 67, Maryville, Missouri, died Monday, February 4, 2013, at her home, Maryville, Missouri.

Carol was born September 14, 1945, in Maryville to Charles Gleason and Lyna Mae (Helmer) Womack who preceded her in death.

A graduate Northeast Nodaway High School and Gard Business College, St. Joseph, Missiouri, Carol worked at Pit Stop, The Senior Center and was currently employed at the Holiday Inn Express.

She married Shelby Douglas Keever, Jr. on December 26, 1970, Winston Missouri.

Carol was a charter member of the Eagles Lodge Auxiliary, Maryville.

Preceding in death were her parents and father-in-law Shelby Keever.

Survivors include her husband Shelby Douglas Keever, Jr. of their home in Maryville, mother-in-law Emilee Keever, Maryville, brother-in-law Kirby (Brenda) Keever, nephew T.J. (Vanessa) Keever, both of Burlington Jct., Missouri, niece Ashley (Aaron) Brown, Maryville, great niece Olivia Keever, and many other friends and loved ones.

Keirsey, Margie Lou Elam - Margie Lou Keirsey, 83, Maryville, Missouri, died Monday, November 11, 2013, at Golden Living Center, Maryville.

Margie was born August 27, 1930, in Carson, Iowa to Melvin and Annie Belle (Parham) Elam.

A 1948 graduate of Maryville High School, she was a homemaker.

She married Robert Keirsey on November 18, 1951 in Huntsville, Arkansas.

Margie was a Charter Member of the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, Vacation Bible School Teacher, and served on many church committees. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, singing, and was a master pie maker. Margie liked working in the yard, keeping her family's home, and welcoming visitors to it. She valued and enjoyed her friends and church family, and loved to travel with her close friends, the Walkers and the Downings.

Preceding in death were her parents and sisters Doris Evelyn Goslee and Eula Belle (Boots) Harbin.

Survivors include her husband Robert Keirsey of their home, daughter Shanda Kay Keirsey, Maryville, son Randall Eugene Keirsey, Claremore, Oklahoma, five grandchildren: Angela Keirsey, Ozark, Missouri, Anna (Jason) Poole, Quannah, Texas, Jon (Lauren) Keirsey, Amarillo, Texas, Rob Duvall, Kansas City, Missouri, and Pell (Bren) Duvall, Omaha, Nebraska. Four great grandchildren: Jack Poole, Millie Kate Poole, Indigo Duvall and Colton Keirsey, two brothers William (Delora) Elam, Carthage, Missouri, and Dean Elam, Warsaw, Missouri, and many nieces and nephews.

Ronnie was born August 14, 1941, in Maryville, Missouri to Harland Howard and Ruby Opel (Ross) Keith.

Kelmel, Terrance Lester - Terrance Lester Kelmel, 66, Maryville, Missouri, died Monday, October 21, 2013, at his home in Maryville.

Terry was born July 17, 1947, in Maryville, Missouri to Lester Cornelius and Mary Magalene Bailey Kelmel.   They preceded him in death.

A 1965 graduate of Northeast Nodaway High School, Ravenwood, Missouri, he married Lola Cecilia Wilson December 6, 1972, in Auburn, Nebraska.

The Owner and Operator of Kelmel Construction in Maryville, Terry was a member of the St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Maryville.  He was also a 42 year member of Cement Masons Local 518, Kansas City, Missouri.

Kenny, Logan Wesley

Logan Wesley Kenny, 18, Skidmore, MO, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013, at his home near Skidmore, with his family at his side.

Logan was born in St. Joseph, MO, on April 1, 1995; his parents are Kurby L. and Marylou (Sharp) Kenny and survive of the home. He lived all his life in the area.

Logan graduated from Nodaway- Holt R-VII High School, Graham, MO, he was on the Academic Team, was in 4-H, FFA, and he played basketball. He also helped on the family farm and enjoyed tinkering on his tractor.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold D. and Mary Louise (Alloway) Kenny.

Besides his parents, Logan is survived by his sister, Clara E. (Ace) Stinnett, and their children, Lorelai and Sawyer, Skidmore, MO; his brother, Jess G. (Janet) Kenny, and their children, Harley Kenny, Naiton Gannaway and Trenton Gannaway, St. Joseph, MO; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Mary Sharp, Skidmore, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. The minister for the service will be Dr. H.D. Mitchell. The burial will be in the Groves Cemetery, Skidmore, MO.

Kenny, Norman Lee

Norman Lee Kenny, 75, Skidmore, MO, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at his home.

Norman Lee was born on October 21, 1937, in New Point, MO, the son of Freddie and Ethel (Randall) Kenny.

He graduated from the Graham High School, in 1955, and served in the US Army Reserves from 1960-1963.

On October 6, 1961, he married Norma Hilton in Maryville, MO. They farmed together for over 50 years in the Graham area.

He was a member of the former Graham Christian Church.

Norman Lee was preceded in death by his parents, and twin granddaughters, Marci & Michala Rosenbohm.

The biggest enjoyment he got in life was farming, and going with Ciecel to drink coffee and visit with friends. But his greatest enjoyment came from his grandkids visits.

Survivors include his wife Norma, of the home; daughter, Marsha (Mike) Rosenbohm, and 2 grandchildren, Marc & Megan Rosenbohm, all of Graham, MO; sister, Carla (Loren) Markt, Oregon, MO; 2 sister in laws, Marolyn (Jim) Alloway, Graham, MO, and Barb (Allen) Heck, Savannah, MO; 5 nieces, 1 nephew, and cousins.

King, Edwin Wendell - Edwin Wendell King was born July 4, 1920 to Ray L. and Lois (Remmington) King in Hopkins, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, August 16, 2013 at Mt. Ayr Health Care, Mt. Ayr, Iowa. Edwin and Lorraine were both cremated and will be buried together at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton, Iowa following a memorial service at a later date. Edwin Wendell King was born July 4,1920 to Ray L. and Lois (Remmington) King in Hopkins, Missouri. He departed this life Friday, August 16, 2013 at Mt. Ayr Health Care, Mt. Ayr, owa.                                
Edwin attended school in Hopkins, and graduated in 1938. He joined the United States Army in 1943, and was in the 150th Battalion, 34th Squadron, stationed in the Philippines and New Guinea. When he returned from the service in 1946, he returned to farming with his parents.
On October 12, 1946 Edwin was united in marriage to Luetta Lorraine Cavin in Atchison, Kansas. They had over sixty-six years together.
Edwin was of the Christian faith, a member of the Blockton American Legion, Clearfield Lions Club and Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by their two sons: Phillip and wife Myrna of Bedford, Iowa and Daniel and wife Esther of Redding, Iowa; grandchildren: Elicia (David) Rople and Heather King of Des Moines, Sydney King of Lacrosse, Wisconsin, Christopher (Megan) King of Corning, Iowa, Lacey and Jennifer King of Redding, Iowa; great-grandchildren Benjamin and Catherine Rople; step grandchildren Cynthia and Charles; sister Margaret Florea of Hopkins, Missouri, nieces and nephews.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Lois, wife Lorraine (May 7, 2013), brother-in-law Orlin Florea, nephews Larry and Wayne Florea, niece Lois Janell Florea.
Edwin and Lorraine were both cremated and will be buried together at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton, Iowa following a memorial service at a later date.

King, Luetta Lorraine Cavin - Luetta Lorraine King was born July 17, 1927 in Savanah, Missouri, to Lonnie Gilbert and Mary (Brumfield) Cavin and departed this life May 7, 2013 at Mt Ayr Health Care in Mt Ayr, Ia. Lorraine graduated from Blockton Iowa High School. She was active in the Blockton community as long as her health permitted. She was a member of the Methodist Church, Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Garden Club and Sunshine Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Wesley Eugene Cavin and sister Lillian May Cavin.

Lager, Mercedes Theresa - Mercedes Theresa Lager, 83, Maryville, Missouri, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Laverna Village Nursing Home, Savannah, Missouri.

Mercedes was born September 27, 1929, in Clyde, Missouri to Joseph Charles and Mary Catherine (Runde) Henggeler. She married Harold Herman "Harry" Lager February 22, 1949, in Conception, Missouri.

She attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School.

Mercedes had worked at the Conception Abbey Press and Business office and later for the Maryville License Bureau for several years before her retirement. Mercedes was a former member of the St. Gregory's and St. Columba Parishes, St. Gregory's Guild and St. Ann's Alter Society, Beta Sigma Phi and Laureate Gamma RHO Sorority, Tri-C American Legion Womens Auxillary Post #464.

Mercedes loved to quilt, crochet, paint, sing and tend to all her flowers.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Harry Lager (November 29, 2007); two daughters: Anita Lewis and Lois Pierson, four brothers: Bernard and Alois Henggeler (twins), Francis Henggeler, Eugene Henggeler, Maurus Henggeler, sisters Rita and Rose Marie Henggeler. Survivors include children: Jeanne Murray, Ashland, Ed (Jody) Lager, Barnard, Lori (Jeff) Hayden, Platte City, Patty (Pete) Trull, Paola, Kansas, Robert (LaRee) Lager, Barnard; eighteen grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, two brothers Vincent (Anna)Henggeler and Cletus (Joy) Henggeler, both of Stanberry and sister Bernita Behm, Phoenix, Arizona; three sisters-in-law; Ann Marie Henggeler, Maryville, Rose Henggeler, Stanberry, Darlene Lager, Independence; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lager, Patricia Ann Crites - Patricia Ann Lager, 66, Conception Jct., Missouri, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.

She was born December 14, 1946, in Maryville, Missouri to Howard Everett and Arelene Mae (Lainhart) Crites.

A 1964 graduate of Jefferson High School she was a homemaker and also did babysitting in her home. Pat was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Tri-C Post #464, Conception Jct., Missouri

Cletus Lager and Pat Crites were married May 25, 1968, at St. Columba Catholic Church in Conception Jct., Missouri.

Preceding her in death were her parents and brother, Ron Crites.

Surviving Pat are her husband Cletus Lager, Conception Jct., Missouri; two sons: Kevin (Lori) Lager, Conception Jct. and Jerry Lager, Maryville, Missouri; two daughters: Laura (Mike) Galbraith, Conception Jct. and Jessie (Derek) Hailey, Maryville; nine grandchildren and sister-in-law Agnes Crites, Rea, Missouri.

Lance, James Edwin - James Edwin Lance, 73 Maryville, Missouri died on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at his home.

Jim was born October 17, 1939, the son of the late Edward Everett and Mary Fleenor Lance.

Jim was a 1957 graduate of Graham High School and memberships included St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Maryville, the National Rifle Association and the Republican Party. He also formerly served in the Missouri National Guard.

He was united in marriage to Peggy Ann O'Connor, April 16, 1966 in Lawler, Iowa. Jim was a lifelong farmer in the Graham and Maryville area.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife Peggy of the home, Maryville, three sons Tim (Cindy) Lance, Barnard, Missouri, Chris (Rebecca) Lance and Eric (LInda) Lance both of Skidmore, Missouri, ten grandchildren Andrew (Jenny), Aricca, Bailee, Brian, Cassi, Kyle, Kevin , Kendal, Buffie, and Maddie Lance, one great granddaughter Audrey Lance, one brother Wayne (Jackie) Kline, Loveland, Colorado, many nieces, nephews and a host of other friends and loved ones.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, June 1, 2013, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Maryville, where a parish prayer service will be held at 5 PM on Friday, May 31. Visitation will follow the prayer service from 5:30- 7:30 PM. Jim's wishes were to be cremated after the Burial Mass. Law, Erma R. Jones

Erma R. Law, 83, of Graham, MO, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at her home in Graham with her family at her side.

Erma was born on March 4, 1930, in Quitman, MO, to Oakley and Edith (Bose) Jones. She graduated from Skidmore High School, Skidmore, MO.

On August 26, 1950, at the home of Rev. L.B. Day in Maryville, MO, Erma was united in marriage to Alfred W. Law, he passed away in 1991. She was also preceded in death by her son, Calvin Law in 1967; and 2 sisters, and a step sister, Marilyn (Susie) Connor.

Erma and Alfred lived for a time in California while he was in the service, and then they had lived in Graham since 1958. Erma had attended the Graham United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 30, 2013, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. The minister will be Pastor Scott Moon.

The Burial will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham, MO. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM, on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at the funeral home.

Lekey, Cleatus Earl Jr - Cleatus Earl Lekey, Jr., son of Cleatus Earl, Sr., and Nellie (Ramsey) Lekey was born on December 3, 1931 at Burlington Jct., Missouri. He passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, February 4, 2013 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 81.
Growing up, Earl spent time in the four communities of Wichita, Kansas, Maryville, Missouri, Burlington Jct., Missouri and Sunnyside, Washington before settling in southwest Iowa after moving to Clarinda.
Earl proudly served his country during the Korean War. He enlisted in the Army on July 19, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri and served until being honorably discharged at Wolters Air Force Base in Texas on July 18, 1953.
On November 6, 1955, Earl was united in marriage to Lois Joan Elrod in Clarinda, Iowa. To this union five children were born, Cleatus Bert, Debora, Russell, Tina and Timothy. Following their marriage they made their home in Clarinda until later moving to Shenandoah.
Earl worked for several different employers through the years. They included: Griffin Pipe in Council Bluffs, Mount Arbor Nurseries and he worked as a farmhand for local farmers, Norman Bierbaum and Jesse McIntyre. He was a member of the Fifth Ave Methodist Church in Council Bluffs and the Shenandoah Eagles Club. In his spare time he loved to go fishing and he liked sitting in the yard under a big tree enjoying the shade during the summer.
Earl was preceded in death by his son Cleatus Bert Lekey, nephew Darwin Smith and great-granddaughter Deiyia Ruth Berry. Those left to cherish his memory include is wife Lois Lekey of Shenandoah, daughter Debora Lekey of Shenandoah, son Russell Lekey and wife Linda of Piedmont, South Dakota, daughter Tina Fox of Council Bluffs, son Timothy Lekey of Shenandoah, four grandchildren Jennifer, Tami, Julia, Steve and 10 great-grandchildren

Lemar, Gordon - After a brief illness and brave fight Gordon Lemar, 78, Graham, Missouri, passed away peacefully Monday, April 22, 2013, at Laverna Village Nursing Home, Savannah, Missouri with his family at his side.

Gordon was born April 7, 1935, in Craig, Missouri to Russell Milton and Frankie Lucille (Wickiser) Lemar.

A high school graduate of Pickett High School, St. Joseph, he attended Northwest Missouri State University and was a farmer in the Graham community for his lifetime. Gordon enjoyed playing cards, attending activities with his grandchildren, tractor pulls, snow mobiling, and dancing.

He liked to hear and tell a good joke. He loved farming and his cattle and calves.

He married Charlotte Fae Fuston on March 24, 1957, in Graham, Missouri. Charlotte preceded Gordon in death January 20, 2012.

Preceding Gordon in death were his wife, his parents, and a sister Phyllis Tiedeman.

Survivors include son Scott (Cindy) Lemar, Graham, daughter Lori (Kip) Beer, Kansas City, MO, grandchildren Lauren (Mike) Shoener, Zach and Frankie Lemar, sisters Rita Lea Heitman, Smithville, MO, and Rhonda (Roger) Messner, Graham, brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, and cousins

A visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Thursday, April 25, 2013, at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, April 26, 2013, at the Graham United Methodist Church, with burial following in the Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham.

Linville, Charles E. "Junior" - Charles E "Junior" Linville, 89, Skidmore, Missouri, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Golden Living Center, Maryville, Missouri.

Junior was born April 11, 1924, in Skidmore, to Charles Everett Sr. and Hazel Naomi (Hart) Linville.

Junior was a graduate of Kemper Military Academy, Boonville, Missouri and was a lifetime resident of the Skidmore area. He owned and operated Skidmore Oil Company for a number of years and helped his wife Frieda in Barrett Tax Service and retired as a Veterans Service Officer with the Missouri Veterans Commission.

He married Frieda Barrett Linville on July 31, 1943, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Frieda preceded him in death on March 17, 1996.

He was a US Army veteran serving in WW II as a 1st Lt. in the 1st Infantry in both Italy and the Philippines.

Junior served on the Skidmore City Council and as city clerk, the board of Nodaway County Group Homes, Services for the Developementally Disabled and the Senior Citizens Tax Board. He was a 50 plus member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge, member of Moila Shrine, Lions Club, Elks Club 40/8, 338th Infantry Association, Order of the Eastern Star, Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, longtime member of the Maryville Bowling Association, and the Skidmore United Methodist Church.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

He is survived by son Charles Frederick Linville of the home, a sister-in-law Vernal Lawnick, Maryville, and several nieces, nephews and cousins

Dr. Bruce R. Litte, PhD, 69, of Maryville, MO passed away, Sunday January 20, 2013, at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, MO.

Dr. Litte was born on January 6, 1944, in Melrose, MA. His parents were Rudolph and Irene Elsie (Sivachek) Litte and preceded him in death. Dr. Litte was a graduate of the Lincoln Sudberry Regional High School, class of 1961. He then received his Bachelors of Arts degree in English from Kalamazoo College, in Kalamazoo, MI, in 1965, and later received his Masters and PhD. in English from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS. Dr. Litte was a member and attended St. Gregory’s Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville, MO. Left to mourn his passing is his sister, Marcia Irene Litte, Coos Bay, OR; his friend, Kenton Wilcox, Maryville, MO; and many former students as well as children in spirit.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the St. Gregory’s Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville, MO. Cremation will take place after the services.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM, Friday, January 25, 2013, at the Church, and prayer service will be at recited at 7:00 PM.

Lowrance, Barbara A. Giggar - Barbara A. Lowrance, 42, Hopkins, Missouri, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri.

Barbara was born September 19, 1970, in Maryville to Edward Eugene and Margaret Louise (Davis) Giggar. She had worked as an Aid in nursing homes in Nodaway County.

Survivors include: one son Ellis Maxwell, Jr. (DJ), Shenandoah, Iowa, two brothers Robert Eugene Giggar, Albany, Missouri, Timothy Allen Giggar, Yorktown, IA, mother Margaret Louise Giggar, Gentry, Missouri, Father Edward Eugene Giggar, Conception Junction, Missouri, aunts, uncles, cousins and several friends.

Miss Lowrance has been cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Miriam Cemetery, Maryville

Funeral services for Arlene Lusk, age 90, of Clearmont, Missouri, who entered into peace Friday, February 1, 2013 at Golden Living, Maryville, Missouri, will be held 10:30 Monday, February, 4, 2013 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Alvin Reed officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 2-4 p.m., Sunday, February 3 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Braddyville Cemetery, Braddyville, Iowa.

Lois Arlene Lusk was born December 10, 1922 near Braddyville, Iowa at the family home to Lloyd McCurdy and Beulah (Nicholas) McCurdy. She grew up in the Braddyville area and had three brothers and three sisters. Arlene attended Center Country School and graduated from Braddyville High School in 1940. While in high school she played on the girl's basketball team. On April 22, 1942, she was united in marriage to Truman Lusk in San Diego, California while he was in the service. They were blessed with three children, Danny, Nancy and Lou Ann.

Arlene had a very strong work ethic, working several places during her working career. She and Truman owned and operated the Braddyville grocery store and later worked at Morris Grocery, Clearmont; was a cook at the Clearmont and Burlington Junction schools and retired from the Lisle Corporation.

Arlene was a life long member of the Braddyville Christian Church. She enjoyed watching basketball, crafts, gardening and especially her flowers. Arlene was very close to her sisters and enjoyed activities with them including bowling, craft projects and cooking together making donuts and other goodies for all of the kids to enjoy. Her family was a priority and she attended all of her children's and grandchildren's activities. She loved to make cookies to send home with her grandchildren and Danny remembers the many cakes, cookies and letters she would send while he was in Vietnam.

Preceding Arlene in death were her parents; husband, Truman (03/03/1969); brothers, William McCurdy, Truman McCurdy and Stanley McCurdy.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Danny Lusk and wife Nancy of Braddyville, Iowa, Nancy Burtch and husband Buddy of Clarinda, Iowa and Lou Ann McComb and husband Scott of Clarinda, Iowa; grandchildren, Danelle Fox and husband Gary of Burlington Junction, Missouri, Daphne Newberg of Clarinda, Iowa, Kayla Wymore of Schaumburg, Illinois, Emily McComb of Clarinda, Iowa; great grandchildren, Shelbey Fox, Kayliann Fox, Triston Fox, Ty Newberg; sisters, Annabelle Fuller of Clarinda, Iowa, Mary Lou Murphy of Braddyville, Iowa, Bonnie Miller of Clarinda, Iowa; many nieces; nephews and friends.
