Adams, George Thomas Jr - George Thomas (Tom) Adams Jr. was born to George and Al Ena Adams on July 10, 1925 in Wilcox, Missouri. He attended school at Shell Grove Country School and then Horace Mann High School in Maryville, Missouri. He was in the Army Air Corp during World War II as a radio operator on a B-24. After the war, he went to school at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, where he met Ardus Gaffney. They married in 1947 and had three children. In 1960, he received his master's degree at Colorado State College in Greeley and went on to Fonda, Iowa as high school principal. Tom and Ardus raised their family in Fonda and then moved to Lohrville, Iowa in 1976. In their retirement, Tom and Ardus moved to Shenandoah, Iowa in 2004.
Tom adored his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed golfing, square dancing, wood working, traveling and gardening in his spare time. In 1996, Tom and Ardus spent the winter in Pharr, Texas and continued to travel to Texas every winter. Tom loved to play cards and drink coffee with his buddies.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his brother, Jack; his sister, Blanch Elaine; his wife, Ardus, and his daughter, Sheral.
Tom is survived by his sister Dortha (Gordon) of Twin Falls, Idaho; brother John (Mary Jane) of Gladstone, Missouri; son Bruce (Patti) of Shenandoah, Iowa; son Sam (Ellen) of Valparaiso, Indiana; 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews

Adwell, Caleb Dean - Caleb Dean Adwell, age 15, Ravenwood, Missouri died on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at his home, after a two and a half month battle with a rare brain cancer.
Caleb was born September 22, 1998 in Maryville, Missouri the son of Shane Dean and Jennifer Marie (Goedken) Adwell.
A student at Northeast Nodaway R-V, Ravenwood, Caleb would have been a freshman in the class of 2017.
Caleb was a member of Ravenwood Christian Church and very active with the church's youth group. He was also a member of the NEN 4-H Club.
His survivors include his parents Shane and Jennifer, sister, Kerrigan, brother, Ethan and sister Meredith Adwell, all of the home, Ravenwood; maternal grandparents, Martin (Lisa) Goedken, Conception Junction, Missouri; maternal great grandparents, John (Phyllis) Birzer, Ottawa, Kansas; paternal grandparents, Dean (Omi) Adwell, Ravenwood; paternal great grandfather Hiromi Fujimura, Pearl City, Hawaii; aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of other friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 18, 2013 at Northeast Nodaway R-V Gymnasium, Ravenwood. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Ravenwoo

Alkire, Merna Ruth Graves
Merna Ruth Alkire 81, of Maryville, MO, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, with her daughter at her side.
Merna was born on August 29, 1931, in Fairfax, MO, to Melvin Lester and Claudine (Wennihan) Graves, she had lived all her life in northwest Missouri. She was a member and attended the Barnard Christian Church, Barnard, MO.
On February 14, 1953, Merna was united in marriage to Virgil Nyal Alkire in Maryville, MO. They farmed in the Barnard, MO, area until his death in 1981. Merna continued living on the family farm until moving to Maryville 12 years ago.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Stephen Nyal Alkire, in 1973; and her husband Virgil.
Merna worked as a Nurse’s Aid at the Nodaway Nursing Home and Parkdale Manor, Maryville, MO, then retired as activities director at the LaVerna Heights in Savannah, MO. She continued to work for Tiffany In Home Services, of Maryville, until last year.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Kay and husband, Duane White, Maryville, MO; her granddaughter, Meva and husband, Monty Williams, Kansas City, MO; great grandchildren, Mikai and MaKaynli Williams, Kansas City, MO; and her brother, Dean Graves, Mt. Vernon, MO.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. A reception for friends will follow the service at the funeral home community room. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be later at the Barnard Masonic Cemetery, Barnard, MO

Allen, David M.
David M. Allen, 50, of Craig, MO, and formerly of Maryville, MO, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at his home in Craig.
Dave was born in Maryville, MO, on November 7, 1962, to Don G. and Wilma J. (Van Houtan) Allen. He had lived in the Maryville area until moving to Craig 5 years ago.
Dave attended the Word of Life Church, in St. Joseph, MO. He was also a board member for the City of Craig, MO, and he held several Fellowships at the Autumn House in Maryville.
He was self-employed and had owned and operated Allen’s Striping and Sealcoating business since 1993.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Don G. Allen, in 2004, his sister, Cindy Jordan, in 2011, his nephew, Tanner Bleazard in 1991, and the love of his life, Linda Allen, in 2010.
He is survived by his daughter and also the love of his life, Jodi Allen, Skidmore, MO; his brother, Terry (Kim) Allen, Cimarron, KS; his sister, Donita (Stan) Sunderland, St. Joseph, MO; his mother, Wilma Jean Allen, Maryville, MO; his girlfriend, Teresa Wiley, Craig, MO; numerous nieces and nephews; and many adopted children and grandchildren that were very important to him.
Memorial Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. Pastor Robbie Robison will be the minister for the service

Arms, Blanche Marguerite Smith - Blanche Marguerite Arms, 97, Maryville, Missouri died on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at her home in Maryville, Missouri.
Blanche was born January 23, 1916 in Altamont, Missouri, the daughter of the late Lewis Alfred and Ethel Blanche (Grieve) Smith.
Blanche was a 1933 graduate of Westboro High School, Westboro, Missouri. On January 14, 1934 she was married to Gilbert Meredith Arms in Westboro.
She was a homemaker and later was employed by Northwest Missouri State University where she had worked 22 years in the housekeeping department.
Blanche was a member of First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women (Naomi-Phoebe Circle), Care Group, and the former Herron Homemaking Club all of Maryville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gilbert (1988), daughter, Myrna Lawson (1996), two brothers, Lee A. and Lewis W. Smith.
Surviving are sons, Walter (Marianna) Arms, Dalton, Georgia, Robert (Karan) Arms, Fort Worth, Texas, Charles (Anita) Arms, Greenville, South Carolina, daughter, Donna (Ed) Roush, Maryville, son-in-law Palmer Lawson, Pacific, Missouri, 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 4 step-great grandchildren, and one great great grandson.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Sunday, June 23, at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, June 24, at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville. Burial will be in the Nodaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Maryville

Auffert, Patricia Ann Bradley - Patricia Ann Auffert, 72 of Parnell, Missouri died on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at St Francis Hospital in Maryville, Missouri.
Patricia was born June 2, 1941 in Kent, Iowa, the daughter of the late Dennis and Theola (Baker) Bradley.
Patricia was a graduate of Afton High School, Afton, Iowa and had attended Northwest State Teachers College, Maryville.
She married Philip J. Auffert on July 17, 1965 in Afton.
Patricia was a homemaker and had been an elementary teacher at the former St. Patrick's and St. Mary's Schools, Maryville and did substitute teaching at Northeast Nodaway School in Ravenwood, Missouri..
Patricia was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, St. Ann's Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 528, all of Parnell.
Her survivors include: husband Philip of the home, two daughters Catherine and Lynette Auffert, both of Parnell, two sons Timothy (Richard Webb),Raytown, Damian (Dana), Parnell, four grandchildren Jesse, Dalton, Dakota, and Dalanie Auffert, three sisters Marietta (Ruben) Baltz, Fayetteville, Arkansas, Kathy (Ken) Waller, Johnston, Iowa, Diane (Monty) Ide, Shannon City, Iowa, four brothers Joe (Dorothy) Bradley, Algona, Iowa, Jim (Sherry) Bradley, Arispe,Iowa, Steve (Sandy) Bradley, Oelwein, Iowa, and Phillip (Patty) Bradley, Afton, Iowa, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 21, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Parnell. A family rosary will be held Thursday, September 19 at 6 PM, and Friday, September 20, a parish rosary at 5 PM followed by a family visitation. Both rosaries will be held at the Church in Parnell. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Parnell.

Baker, Lois Jean Crabtree - Lois Jean (Crabtree) Baker, the daughter of Donald Q. and Vera E. (Walker) Crabtree, was born September 9, 1934, in Burlington Junction, Missouri. She attended Burlington Junction schools.
In 1952, Lois was united in marriage to Vilas Howell, they later divorced. In 1962, she was united in marriage to Bill Baker, they later divorced. In 1983, Lois was united in marriage to Gene Jackson, they later divorced. Lois was a homemaker. While raising her children, she was an Avon consultant and would also take in sewing or ironing. She was later employed at St. Francis Hospital and at nursing homes in Maryville, Missouri. In the early 1990’s, Lois moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, and was employed by Henry Fields Nursery.
Lois was an excellent cook and loved baking. She made silk flower arrangements and had collections of rocks, coins and stamps. Lois loved taking pictures, capturing the people and things she adored. Lois passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, at the Shenandoah Medical Center, Shenandoah, at the age of 78.
Besides her parents, Lois was preceded in death by daughter, Jeanette (Howell) Diehl; brother, Monte Crabtree; and nephew, Mark Crabtree. Survivors include daughter, Tracey Howell Fielder and husband, Denny, Shenandoah; sons, Virgil Howell and wife, Deborah, upstate New York; Don Baker and wife Lorri, Denver, Colorado; eleven grandchildren, Crystal Hensen, Skyler Dooley, Lori Fisher, Abbey Hauger, Ritchie and Jerimy Diehl, Damian Bohler, Stephanie Bohler, Mark Bohler, Cristen Baker and Jill Bash; eighteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Amy Moore and husband, Jerry, Rock Port, Missouri, and Carol Crabtree, Independence, Missouri; brothers, Paul Crabtree and wife, Bonnie, Grand Junction, Colorado, Elwin Crabtree, Grand Lake, Colorado, and Marvin Crabtree and wife, Lynne, Peoria, Arizona; aunts, Esther Barr, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Donna Jean Sallee, Chariton, Iowa.

Barcus, Ruth Elaine Friend
Ruth Elaine (Friend) Barcus, 83, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Elmo, MO, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville.
Ruth was born on July 23, 1929, east of Braddyville, IA. Her parents were Elmer Cecil and Bonnie Bernice (Gray) Friend, they preceded her in death. She was also preceded by 2 sisters, Mary Belle Friend, Faye Ellen Friend, and an infant brother, Paul Friend.
On December 25, 1955, at the Clearmont Missouri Baptist Church, Ruth was united in marriage to Edward Rolland Barcus. They spent most of their married life in Nodaway County, Missouri, where she was a loving wife and mother.
Ruth was a member and attended the Clearmont Baptist Church, Clearmont, MO. She previously attended and helped with the Vacation Bible School at the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, MO. She also was involved with area 4-H Clubs while her children were involved in it.
Survivors include her husband, Edward R. Barcus, of the home in Maryville, MO; her 3 children, David E. (Jeanette) Barcus, Clearmont, MO, Gloria M. (Joe) Reidlinger, Maryville, MO, and Darla K. (Jeff) Smith, Coin, IA; 9 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren; 5 siblings, Delmer (Judy) Friend, Des Moines, IA, Neola Perry, Essex, IA, Lola Steeve, Hopkins, MO, Violet (Kenny) Williams, Clarinda, IA, and Bill Friend, Des Moines, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barela, Natalia - Sister M. Natalia Barela, OSB, 105, Clyde, Missouri, formerly of Tucson, Arizona, died Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at Our Lady of Rickenbach, Clyde.
Sister Natalia Barela was born Wednesday, July 8, 1908, in Ranchos de Albuquerque, New Mexico to Eugene Paul and Soledad (Gonzales) Barela.
Sister Natalia was graduate of Albuquerque Business College and was a Roman Catholic Nun. Sister had been at the Benedictine Convent of Adoration since 2001.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Horace, John, and Eugene and a sister Alice Barela Forte.
Survivors include a niece Clara Forte, and nephews Charles Forte, Phil Barela , and Dr. Tom Barela .
The Vigil service will be 7 PM Friday, December 27, 2013 at Our Lady of Rickenbach, Clyde, Missouri.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 8:00 AM, Saturday, December 28 , 2013, at the Adoration Chapel at the Monastery, with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Clyde, Missouri.

Barmann, Margaret Marie Lawrence - Margaret Marie Barmann, 97, died Friday, August 30, 2013, at Brandon Woods at Alvamar in Lawrence, KS.
She was born Margaret Marie Lawrence on August 9, 1916, in Wichita, KS, to William Andrew and Anna Maditz Lawrence. In 1921 her family moved to Kansas City, KS, where Margaret attended Blessed Sacrament grade school and graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1935. She later attended a business/secretarial school and worked as a secretary in Kansas City, KS.
Margaret embarked on quite an adventure for a Kansas girl when she moved to Washington, D.C. in April 1941, where she lived on Constitution Avenue and worked at the U.S. Marine Corps Headquarters. She had many interesting stories about her experiences there as Pearl Harbor was attacked and the U.S. entered World War II. Margaret returned to Kansas City in 1942, where she worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Air Transport Command and the Veterans’ Administration. She was active in the Kansas Alpha Mu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi service sorority during this time. She married Lawrence V. Barmann on October 27, 1949 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Kansas City, KS. Lawrence, a U.S. Army Captain during World War II, was a farmer, and raised grain and livestock near Maryville, MO. Margaret and Lawrence lived on the farm from the time of their marriage until 2000 when they moved to Lawrence, KS. Lawrence passed away in 2008 after 58 years of marriage. Margaret became an accomplished homemaker and farm wife, and she tackled learning new skills with enthusiasm. She raised chickens, churned butter, canned, sewed, quilted, cooked and baked to perfection. Margaret loved history and politics, and was an avid reader. She had a sharp mind up to the end of her life, and was witty, gentle and kind. She was an inspiration to her family and was dear to all who knew her. She was active in the Merry Matrons Club for many years, and was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Maryville and Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lawrence, KS.
Margaret is survived by a son, Larry Barmann and wife Kathy, Red Oak, Iowa; three daughters, Ann Edwards and husband, Robert, Kansas City, MO, Kathy Robbins and husband, Mark, Lawrence, KS, and Sue Buchanan and husband, Richard, Charleston, SC; nine grandchildren, Christina (Russ)Rauba, Mark (Krista) Barmann, Angela (Kevin)Britten, Matthew Edwards, Susanna Edwards, Stephen Robbins, Neal Buchanan, Andrew Buchanan and Hallie Buchanan; and seven great-grandchildren, Lauren Rauba, Jasmine and Brogan Barmann, Conor and Caitlin Britten, and Jordan and Malia Baker. Margaret is also survived by her sister, Helen Stalzer and her husband, Donald; sisters-in law Dorline Lawrence and Mary Lawrence; brother-in-law, Jack Breitenstein; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom were very special to her. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William Lawrence and John Lawrence; and two sisters, Rosemary Breitenstein and Sister Anna Mary (Lillian) Lawrence.
There will be a prayer service from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, September 2 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, Maryville, MO; the family will then greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 3 at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Maryville.

William David Bears, 45, Maryville, Missouri died on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at his home in Maryville.
David was born February 21, 1967 in Maryville, the son of Eldon L. and Margaret (Gross) Bears.
He was a graduate of Maryville High School and was employed by Kawasaki Motors working on the production line.
He was a member of St Gregory Catholic Church, Maryville.
Preceding him in death were his father Eldon Bears, an infant brother Martin Lee Bears and a niece Paige Gard.
Survivors include his mother Margaret Bears, Maryville; Chris Bears, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mick Bears, Skidmore, Missouri, Ed Bears, Savannah, Missouri, John (Ginger) Bears, Maryville, Jean Reed, Maryville, Bet (John) Gard, Maitland, Missouri, Sue (Brad) Peve, Hopkins, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mr. Bears body has been cremated.

Bliley, Ralph Andrew
Ralph Andrew Bliley, 90, of Clyde, MO, passed away on December 28, 2013, in Stanberry, MO.
Clyde was born on May 7, 1923, to Joseph and Theresa (Wiederholt) Bliley in Clyde, MO.
He received his schooling at St. Benedict's in Clyde and one semester at the Seminary in Conception. MO, before enlisting in the Army Air Force in Fort Leonard Wood. He later transferred to the motor division. He spent 3 years in the Army, serving in the South Pacific, and he also served at the Battle of the Bulge. He served in the 3rd Army under General George Patton. He was honorably discharged on December 31, 1945.
On November 30, 1948, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Schuetz, and they recently celebrated 67 years together. To them 7 children were born, Carolyn Bliley (Larry Diggs), Kathy (Earl) Schwebach, Jim (Deb) Bliley, George (Janet) Bliley, Barb Murphy (Bob Eisenbraun), Emily Schafer (Owen Reigler), and Jon Bliley, 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter; 2 sisters, Rosetta Redden, Patricia (W.D.) Driskell; 1 brother, Robert (Beverly) Bliley.
Preceded Ralph in death were his parents; his in laws; 4 sisters; and several other family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Tri-C American Legion Post 464, or the Hands of Hope Hospice.
There will be a Parrish and family Rosary at 6:00 PM on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at St. Columba Catholic Church, Conception Junction, MO.
The memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 3, 2014, at St. Columba.
The burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Conception, MO, with full military honors provided by the Tri-C American Legion Post 464, and the Missouri Military Honors Detail.

Boarts, Lois June Reynolds - Lois June Boarts 89, of Maryville, MO, passed away Thursday March 28, 2013 at the Nodaway Nursing Home, in Maryville, Missouri. She was born June 6, 1923 in Savannah, Missouri to Mary Edith (Sollars) and Edward Dewitt Reynolds. She was a homemaker, and a Christian. She enjoyed embroidery, playing bingo in her later years, and she also enjoyed her bible studies and her adult basic education classes. Lois is preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband Milo Howard Payne, 2nd husband Lyle Edward Boarts, two sons, Terry Lee Payne and Mark Edward Payne, two brothers, Harold Lee Reynolds and Edward Allen Reynolds, and one sister, Mary Esther Leasure. Survivors include a son Robert Michael Payne and wife Carol Ann of Maryville, MO., two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Lahiff and Cora Marie Barber both of Atlantic Beach, Fl. Bohr, Franklin Leo Jr
Franklin Leo Bohr, Jr., age 71, Graham, Missouri died Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his home in Graham.
Franklin was born July 7, 1941 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Franklin Leo Sr. and Dorothy B. (Hawkins) Bohr Pierson.
He was a graduate of Easton High School, Easton, Missouri and a member of East Side Baptist Church, St. Joseph.
Franklin had started working for St. Joseph Light and Power as a lineman working up to and retiring as a supervisor.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and one grandson Matthew Bohr.
Survivors include his special friend Jenevieve Talbott, Graham; daughter Andrea D. (Judy) Bohr, Orlando, Florida; one son Dave (Susan) Bohr, Memphis, Tennessee; two grandchildren Jacob and Elizabeth Bohr, St. Joseph.
Mr. Bohr's body has been cremated. A visitation celebrating Franklin’s life will be held from 5-7 PM, Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Price Funeral Home Chapel in Maryville, Missouri

Brady, Rita Lynch - Rita L. Brady, 93, Maryville, Missouri, died Friday, September 27, 2013, at her home in Maryville.
Rita was born June 9, 1920, in Conception Junction, Missouri to John M. and Julia Ann O'Connor Lynch. She was a 1938 graduate of Conception High School.
Rita and John P. Brady were married June 4, 1943, in Conception Jct., Missouri.
A homemaker, she was a member of the St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Maryville.

Breedlove, Mary Margaret Carmichael - Mary Margaret Breedlove, age 74, of Maryville Missouri, passed away August 17th, 2013 at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Mary Margaret Breedlove was born December 9, 1938 in Red Oak, Iowa. She was the daughter of Orrin and Norma Carmichael. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1956. She was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” R. Breedlove on December 9th, 1956 at the First Christian Church in Red Oak, Iowa.
Mary was a member of the First Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir with her husband, mother, and father. She enjoyed scrapbooking, sewing, card making, and being a grandmother of 5 active grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents: Orrin and Norma Carmichael. Survivors include her husband of over 56 years: Charles Breedlove of Maryville, Missouri; sons: Tim Breedlove and Gerald Ortego of Kansas City, Missouri; Tom Breedlove and wife Robin of Omaha, Nebraska; Todd Breedlove and wife Angela of Overland Park, Kansas; and daughter: Tresa Brummer and husband Wyatt of Prairie Village, Kansas; 5 grandchildren: Amanda, Aidan, Addison, Nolen, and Colton; brother Bill Carmichael and wife Karen of Omro, Wisconsin; as well as many loved nieces and other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be held 10 AM Saturday, August 24th, 2013 at Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, Iowa. There will be a time of lunch and fellowship at the First Christian Church following the interment service.. Helen B. Bright, 94, of Conception Junction, MO, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2013, at the Golden Living Center, Maryville, MO.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM, Saturday, December 7, 2013, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, 206 E. South Hills Drive, Maryville, MO, 64468. The minister will be Pastor Scott Moon. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Saturday, preceding the funeral services. The burial will be immediately following at the Nodaway Memorial Gardens, Maryville, MO.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Bright; her parents; her sisters, Pauline Dragoo, Bertha Lee, Ruby Martin, and Ruth Kinder.
Survivors include her son Kermit D. (Mary) Bright, Holt, MO; granddaughter, Helen F. (Richard) Bridges, Kansas City, MO, grandson, Dale E. (Julie) Bright, Rayville, MO; 5 great grandchildren, Derrick and Nathan Bridges, Kansas City, MO, and John, Dillion, and Brooklyn Bright, Rayville, MO; her sister, Marie Grasty, Rayville, MO, and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was born on October 27, 1919, to Mike and Leatha (Wilson) Brown, near the township of Amity, Page County, IA. She was united in marriage to John A. Bright on August 30, 1941.
Helen had lived in her maternal home in Conception Junction, MO, since 1941. She worked at the Conception Printery for 34 years, and had retired in December 2008 at the age of 89. She had served for 42 years as Treasurer for the Jefferson C-123 School District, retiring in May of 2013.
In 2013, she retired after 41 years, as the acting Secretary for the Tri-C Housing Board, and was the only member to serve the entire existence of the board.
Helen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #464 for 66 years. She was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rosanna Chapter #262; and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Maryville, and had served as its president.

Erma Jean Bowen Brown, 87, of Ravenwood, MO, passed away in her sleep early Monday morning, July 29, 2013, at the Parkdale Manor Nursing Home in Maryville, MO.
Erma Jean was born on May 14, 1926, in Isadora, MO. Her parents were Willie Clay and Annie Caroline (Ray) Walker. She lived all her life in northwest Missouri.
On July 2, 1947 in Ravenwood, MO, Erma Jean was united in marriage to Charles Galen Bowen, who passed away in 1985. Erma Jean later married John Brown on February 29, 1991, in Maryville, MO, who passed away in 1998. Erma Jean was also preceded in death by her daughter, Donna Jean Bowen in 1973, and 5 Brothers, and 7 Sisters.
Erma Jean was a homemaker all her life. She was a member and attended the Ravenwood Christian Church, Ravenwood, MO, and later she attended the Countryside Christian Church, Maryville, MO.
Erma Jean leaves behind her 4 sons, Charlie (Teresa) Bowen, Maryville, MO, Lee (Charlotte) Bowen, Barnard, MO, Ray (Shelley) Bowen, Trimble, MO, and Jerry Bowen, Venice, FL; 1 sister, Rosella Lewis, Ravenwood, MO; 9 grandchildren, Anthony (Danny) Bowen, April (Kevin) McMahon, Brandi (Noah) Bonde, Lonia Bowen, Chris (Karen) Bowen, Valerie (Donald) Steensen, Paul Bowen, Alex (Nicole) Bowen, and Alison (Nate) Gonner; 9 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ron was born October 3, 1957, in Maryville, to Lowell Dean and Helen LaRue West Burns.
A 1976 graduate of Sheridan High School, he was a farmer in the Sheridan area and owner /operator of the Burns Service, Sheridan.
Preceding in death were his father Lowell Dean Burns in 1983, and grandparents Everett West, and Glen and Helen Burns.
Survivors include his mother LaRue Burns, Sheridan, brother Don (Paula) Burns, Charlotte, North Carolina, maternal grandmother Beulah West, Clearmont, Missouri and nephews Nick, Dylan, and Mitch Burns.

Burson, Earl LaVern
Earl LaVern Burson, 75, of Maryville, MO, passed from this life on October 22, 2013, at his home southwest of Maryville.
Earl was born in Red Oak, IA, on December 30, 1937, to Denton Robert and Leota Pearl (Liter) Burson. In 1939, the family moved to their farm outside of Maryville, where Earl lived the rest of his life.
He was a 1955 graduate of the Maryville High School, and he served his country in the Missouri National Guard. Earl was a dairy farmer all his life and retired 1995. His memberships included the St. Gregory’s Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville, and the American Dairy Farmers. He loved to bowl and had been a member of several local bowling leagues over the years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother in infancy, and 2 sisters, Betty Martin, and Pearl Klassy.
On December 29, 1958, at the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Maryville, Earl was united in marriage to Clara Margaret Barmann. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his children, Denny LaVern Burson, Maryville, MO, Thomas Joseph, and wife Deanna Burson, Warrensburg, MO, Brian Christopher, and wife Bernice Burson, Barnard, MO, Deborah Ann, and husband Robert Dougan, Maryville, MO, and Karen Lynn, and husband Delbert Worthington, Maryville, MO; 14 grandchildren, Johnathan Soto, Nicole Reno, Max, Alex, Connor and Olivia Burson, Blake Burson, Karlie Blair, Cole and Christopher Dougan, Kirsten Imray, Taylor, Mitchell and Megan Worthington; 1 great grandson, Ayden Reno; 2 brothers, Orlando, and wife Colleen Burson, Euphrata, WA, and Robert L. Burson, Bedford, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, October 28, 2013, at the St. Gregory’s Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville, MO. The burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, also of Maryville.
Military Rites at the cemetery will be provided by members of the James Edward Gray American Legion Post 100, Maryville, MO

Byler, John R.
John R. Byler, Skidmore, MO, was born on March 25, 1938, at Dover, Delaware, to Rudy and Matilda (Bender) Byler. He died at home on July 14, 2013, at age 75 years, 3 months, and 19 days.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Dena R. Yutzy, after having lived together in holy matrimony for 54 years. They were married on October 26, 1958.
To this union were born 4 children; Debra, married to Roger Miller, Oskaloosa, KS, Mervin, (deceased), Dale, married to Mildred Mast, Skidmore, MO, Cindy, married to Dale Troyer, Pickering, MO. In 1982, they adopted a special child, Billy Joe, who still resides at home. He will also be missed by his 16 grandchildren.
He accepted Christ as his Savior in his youth and was a member of Mt. Moriah Mennonite Fellowship where he remained faithful until his death.
The family will receive friends from 2-4:00 PM, and 6-8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Maryville, MO.

Cain, Wanda Craig - Wanda Craig Cain, 100, Maryville, Missouri, died Thursday, November 28, 2013, at Golden Living Community, Maryville.
Wanda was born August 29, 1913, in Bosworth, Missouri to Glenn and Mary Byrd (Darr) Craig.
She received her Master's Degree in Teaching from the School of the Ozarks and was a retired teacher.
Wanda married Glen Cain on June 1, 1940, in Carrollton, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1997.
Wanda was a member of the First Christian Church, Maryville and was a member of O.E.S, DAR, of which she was a 50 year member, Rebecca Lodge, and the Missouri Retired Teachers Association..
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Glen, sister: Vivian Corrough and nephew Craig Corrough.
She is survived by her niece, Crickett (Terrance) Nickle, Maryville, Missouri.
Mrs. Cain has been cremated. Private memorial services will be held at a later date, with burial in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, Cainsville, Missouri

Poppy was born February 25, 1964 in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of Raymond Elvin and Alice Faye (Kreps) Cross. She was united in marriage to John F. Calfee October 5, 2002 in Hopkins.
Poppy was a member of First Christian Church, Hopkins, and the American Association of Certified Professional Coders, and a graduate of North Nodaway High School Class of 1982.
Poppy was a Certified Professional Coder for Saint Francis Hospital, Maryville.
Poppy was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Cross on February 5, 2003.
Survivors include; Husband John, of the home, Hopkins, son Luke Ramsey and fiance' Trista Booher, Bedford, Iowa, daughter Ali RaeAnn Ramsey and friend Kiel Brittain, Clarinda, Iowa, from her first marriage, one granddaughter Madiysn Ramsey, Bedford, mother Alice Cross, brother Raymond "Skeeter" Cross, and sister Marcia (Randy) Beason, all of Hopkins.

Callow, James Arthur - James Arthur Callow, 92, Maryville, Missouri, formerly of Graham and Maitland, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri.
James was born November 15, 1920, near Forrest City, Missouri to George Henry and Eva Alberta (Ramsey) Callow.
He was a graduate of Barnard High School, Barnard, Missouri. James was a United States Army Veteran serving in World War II.
James was united in marriage to Elsie Rose Scoville, on February 27, 1947 in Saint Joseph, Missouri.
James was a member of the Bethany Rural Christian Church, Barnard, Graham Lion's Club, and the American Legion Post #256, Maitland, Missouri.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a son Mike Callow, sister Ruth Roberts and a great grandson infant Brayden Callow.
Survivors include his wife Elsie Callow, Maryville, four sons and daughters in law, Jerry and Kay Callow, Saint Joseph, Missouri, Don and Connie Callow, Maryville, Alan and Lori Callow, Smithville, Missouri, George and Evelyn Callow, Graham, daugher-in-law Dawn Grimm Callow, Boardman, Oregon, eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Cockayne, Clifford I. - Clifford I. Cockayne, 80, Maryville, Missouri, died Friday, July 26,2013 at the Golden Living Center, Maryville.
Clifford was born December 22, 1932, in Maysville, Missouri to Joseph "Ivan" and Bula Jane (Holt) Cockayne.
A 1950 graduate of the Quitman High School, Clifford served his country and retired from the United States Air Force.
He married Shirley Frampton on January 9, 1958, in Maryville, Missouri.
Clifford was a member of the James Edward Gray American Legion Post #100, the Elks Club, Maryville, Missouri Disabled American Veterans, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Missouri Trapshooters Association, Amateur Trapshooters Association, and was inducted to the "Missouri Trapshooters Hall of Fame", and Cliff and Shirley spent 30 winters in Arizona trapshooting. Cliff participated in the National Trapshooting Association, Vandalia, Ohio.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors include his wife Shirley Ann Cockayne of their home and sisters Lucile Bithos, Maryville, MO, and Marjorie Dearmont, Bertram, TX.

Coleman, Russell F.
Russell F. Coleman, 88, of Grant City, MO, and formerly of Hopkins, MO, passed from this life on Friday, April 5, 2013, at the Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, MO.
Russell was born on February 17, 1925, in Hopkins, to Lew and Lola (Gray) Coleman, he lived in that area until moving to a farm northwest of Grant City in 1959.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bob, Raymond, Floyd (Skinny) and Sherman (Bill) Coleman; and his sisters, Dorothy Kellogg and Maxine Morrison.
Russell proudly served his country during the Korean conflict in the US Army.
Russell was a retired self-employed farmer, and had been a member of the Grant City, MO, American Legion Post #92.
On February 3, 1954, in Ravenwood, MO, Russell was united in marriage to Vivian Marie Auten, she survives of the home.
Other survivors include his daughter, Carlotta (Corky) and husband, Bo DeMott, Sheridan, MO; grandsons, Bradie and wife, Valerie Demott, and Cory DeMott, both of Grant City, MO, and Derry DeMott, Sheridan, MO; 2 sisters, Mary Brand, Ravenwood, MO, and Betty Hardee, Belton, MO; 2 great grandsons, Jake and Jared Simmons, brother in law, Raymond Morrison, and sister in law, Doris Coleman; and very special nieces and nephews who were all very near and dear to him.
Memorial graveside services and inurnment will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, MO.

Collins, Kathleen May Robinson
Kathleen May Collins 86, Hopkins, MO, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2013, at her Daughter’s home near Conception Junction, MO, with her family at her side.
Kathleen was born on May 6, 1927, near Alberta, Canada. She resided many years in Monticello, MN, and then moved to a farm NW of Hopkins, MO in 1966.
Her parents were Marion E. and Daisy (Powelson) Robinson. She graduated Salutatorian from the Monticello High School, Monticello, MN, and then received her Teaching Degree from St. Cloud State College, St. Cloud, MN. She taught in a rural school district in the Monticello, MN area. She later attended NWMSU in Maryville, MO.
Besides teaching, she had worked at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, MO, and the Maryville Public Library. She also worked and did genealogy at the Nodaway County Historical Society, Maryville. She also helped her husband Richard with the farm operation.
On December 27, 1950, in Monticello, MN, Kathleen was united in marriage to Richard G. Collins. After 61 years of marriage he passed away on January 6, 2011. She was also preceded by her parents; her son in law, Marvin Miller, and a niece, Mary Jane Robinson.
She was a member and attended the Wray Memorial United Methodist Church, and the Prairie Star Community Club, both of Hopkins, MO, and was a 4-H Leader in North Nodaway 4-H Club. She had taught Sunday school in Minnesota and Hopkins.
She enjoyed her family and friends; gardening, quilting, knitting, crocheting, reading, and writing cards and letters.
Left to mourn her passing are her children, James (Carolyn) Collins, Bedford, IA, Carmen Larabee, Maryville, MO, Georgia Miller, Lenox, IA, Joan (Martin) Hemenway, Rogers, AR, and Carol (Allen) Hersh, Conception Junction, MO; 3 brothers, Robert (Elizabeth) Robinson, Long Prairie, MN, Donald E. Robinson, Oelwein, IA, Gerald (Carol) Robinson, Waterloo, IA, and sister, Meryl LaSorsa, Georgetown, TX; 8 grandchildren, Jeremiah (Julie) Larabee, Jedidiah Larabee, Brandie Miller, Suzanne Sulzer, Cody (Meghan) Hersh, Jacklyn Hersh, Collin Hemenway, and Jullian Hemenway; 2 great grandchildren, Madison Larabee, and Colton Larabee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edna Kae Crabtree, 70, Saint George, Utah, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at Dixie Regional Medical Center, Saint George, Utah.
Edna was born January 4, 1943 in Maryville, Missouri to Harry and Ruby Wallace.
Edna attended Maryville High Shool, worked as a Nurse Aid and at late volunteered as a tour guide at the Historic Johnson Dinosaur Park in St. George.
Preceeding her in death were her parents, husband Monte Crabtree, son Mark Crabtree. brother Charles Wallace, and two sisters Rose Piveral and Mae King all of Maryville.
Survivors include her children Stephen (Julie) Crabtree, St. George, Utah, Tina Crabtree, Maryville, Missouri, two sisters Betty Pierson, Maryville, Missouri, and Nancy Reents, St. Joseph, Missouri. Eleven grandchildren

Crossland, Henry Harold
Henry Harold Crossland, 89, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Butler, MO, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville.
Harold was born on February 8, 1923, in Rich Hill, MO. His parents were Clyde Carroll and Mary (Petty) Crossland, and preceded him in death. He was also preceded by William Isaac Crossland (brother) and Maureen (Crossland) Linard (sister).
Harold was a graduate of Rich Hill High School class of 1941.
On April 15, 1943, Harold entered the US Navy. He was a Signalman aboard USS LST 137 during the June 6, 1944, D-Day landings at Utah Beach in France. He was honorably discharged on April 23, 1946.
Harold married Helen Juanita Herman on November 1, 1945.
His memberships included the Ohio Street Methodist Church, Butler, MO, VFW, and Bass Masters.
Harold worked as an insurance representative with the Prudential Insurance Company in Bates County; retiring in 1979.
His survivors include Barry Ross Crossland (son) and Rebecca Ann Baker (daughter).
Mr. Crossland has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. A memorial graveside service and celebration, with Military Honors, will be held in the spring at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, MO. Date to be announced later

Vivian was born July 19, 1922, in Plattsburg, Missouri, to Delbert Ernest and Mary Marie (Black) Ingram.
A homemaker, Vivian married Joseph William Cruth on May 16, 1939, in Maryville, Missouri who preceded her in death July 27, 1989.
Vivian was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary #3669, Maryville, for 20 years.
Preceding in death were her husband, her parents, an infant sister Audrey Louise Ingram, son Joseph W. (Bill) Cruth and brother Delbert Ingram.
