Additional info from Jack Harris: jharris_hiker@verizon.net :---J C Swank is John Collins Swank, son of Cornelius Swank and Lovina Collins. Her father was John Collins, so, J C Swank was named after his maternal grandfather.
Interestingly, Lovina Collins’ brother, Thomas Collins, must have been good friends with Cornelius Swank, because he named his oldest son, Cornelius Swank Collins, who is my g-grandfather.
