002Grace "Jean" Kettle Haidsiak was born to Henry & Myrtle (Bean) Kettle on December 22, 1920 in Lena, Illinois. As a small child, she moved with her parents to Blockton, Iowa. Jean helped on the farm as a child. She rode her horse "Dandy" to and from school. "Dandy" lived a long life of 40 years and many grandkids also rode on "Dandy". Jean graduated from Blockton High school in 1938. After graduation, she taught school at a country school.
Jean met Wayne Haidsiak and after dating several years, they were married in Maryville, Missouri on December 30, 1942. Three children made the family complete; Marilyn Kay, Carolyn May and George Alan.
Jean helped on the family farm while planting a large garden, cooking many meals, canning, and cleaning house. She could really cook and no one ever left hungry. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Clearfield; U.M.W.; former member of the Eastern Star; and a member of Friendly Neighborhood Club. Jean enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Bingo player.
Jean passed away in her sleep on the morning of April 30, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry & Myrtle Kettle; husband Wayne on February 26, 2005; brothers Byron & Dale Kettle; sisters Marjorie Wilhite, Mildred Fuller, and Mable Smith.
Surviving are her children Kay & Jerry Miles of Bennington, NE, Carolyn & Gary Williams of Pomona, KS, and George & Sherry Haidsiak of Clearfield, IA; 5 grandchildren Terri Stevens, Mike Martin, Jim Williams, Mark Williams, and Jamie Hommer; 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Vera Carson, Annabel Walkup, and Lois Haidsiak; other relatives and friends

006Charles H. Tunnell, the son of Charles H. and Mildred (Snell) Tunnell was born February 16, 1943, in Shenandoah, Iowa. He attended Irish Grove country school.

On July 28, 1966, Charles was united in marriage to Joyce Harris in Atchison County, Missouri. They became the parents of one son, Michael.

Charles was formerly employed by Eaton Corporation, Shenandoah, and Leggett and Platt, Carthage, Missouri, before retiring. Charles had recently moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, to live closer to his family. Charles passed away April 13, 2013, at Saxton Health Care Inn, St. Joseph, at the age of 70.

Besides his parents, Charles was preceded in death by three brothers, Don, Keith and Eddie Tunnell and four sisters, Karen Welch, Norma Eyman, JoAnn Merriett and Rosalee Almanza. Survivors include son, Mike Tunnell, Tarkio, Missouri; five grandchildren, Deaven and Hunter Tunnell, Tarkio,and McKindsey, Kaiden and Chloe Tunnell, Neosho, Missouri; Joyce Tunnell, Rock Port, Missouri; brother, Bud Tunnell, Moline, Illinois, sister, Betty Coons, Moline; and numerous nieces and nephews.

007Surrounded by her loving family, Frances Fay (Curry) Kerr, 79, of Warsaw, Missouri, returned home to the Lord on April 13th, 2013. Frances bravely fought to survive COPD for many years, but succumbed to lung cancer in the end.

Frances was born in Fairfax, Missouri, on June 23, 1933, to Bert and Flossie (Baker) Curry. She attended Fairview Country school grades K through 6, then Rock Port Junior and Senior High Schools, Rock Port, Missouri. After graduating from high school Frances attended college at Northwest Missouri State Teachers College. She moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and started working for Mutual of Omaha as a keypunch operator. Upon his return from the Korean War, she married the love of her life, Carl Eugene 'Gene' Kerr on December 18th, 1955. They settled in Rock Port, Missouri, where Frances initially was employed at the REA, and then later she was Gene's partner in a number of business ventures including the IGA grocery store, known as "Kerr's IGA." She was also the bookkeeper for Trails End for a short period of time, and for the sporting goods and liquor store known to generations as the ''Bait & Bottle''. Their union was blessed with three children, Carla, Dennis and Kirby, and they had a wonderful life together for fifty-seven and a half years.

Frances was also renowned for her seamstress skills and her peers often marveled that, "her daughter never wore the same dress twice to kindergarten." Gene and Frances relocated to Warsaw, Missouri, in 1987, upon Gene's promotion to Postmaster for the Warsaw office. They continued to live in Warsaw upon Gene's retirement from the post office. Frances and Gene enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing, traveling, and in retirement crafting together. She was famous for her crocheted items and needle point, everyone that knew them had a lifetime supply of nylon dish scrubbers.

Frances was member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and enjoyed outings and events with her sorority sisters up until her illness kept her from being able to. She loved her family and friends and they loved her. She was especially proud of her husband, children, and grandchildren, often telling others that, "she had the best family anyone could ask for." She was a woman of strong personal faith, and her struggle to overcome obstacles was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Flossie (Baker) Curry; brothers, Paul (died in childhood) and Russell; sisters, Juanita (died in childhood), Helen Slater, Delores Nace, Nadine Dappen and Betty Yungschlager. She is survived by her soul mate, Gene; sister, Darlene Banasik; brother-in-law, Harry Yungschlager; sister-in-law, Joan Bucy; daughter, Carla [Rory] Mason; and sons, Dennis [Jacqueline] and Kirby [Whitney]; grandsons, Zachary Kerr and Derek Mason; granddaughters, Christina Kerr, Sara Mason, Jennifer Kerr and Kaitlyn Kerr; and many nieces and nephews.

008Lee Edward Schumacher, the son of Edward B. and Grace Ekke (Rosenbohm) Schumacher, was born August 22, 1921, in Langdon, Missouri. He attended school at Valley View and Nisha Country Schools, graduating from Rock Port High School, Rock Port, Missouri.

Lee proudly served his country in the United States Army, in the European Theater during World War II. On March 2, 1947, Lee was united in marriage to Emma Jean Morgan at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. They became the parents of two children, Alan Lynn and Kathryn Kay.

Lee and Emma Jean farmed and made their home on the family farm in the Langdon area until moving into Rock Port in 1992. Lee retired from farming in 1986. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Rock Port. Emma Jean passed away February 1, 2009. Lee passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Rock Port, at the age of 91.

Besides his parents and wife Emma Jean, Lee was preceded in death by his son, Alan Lynn Schumacher. Survivors include daughter, Kay Amthor and husband, Wally; grandson, Wyatt Amthor and wife, Kari Beth, all of Rock Port; granddaughter, Jessica Kytle and husband, Brian, Tomball, Texas; great-grandchildren, Westyn and Talyn Amthor, Rock Port; and step grandson, Logan Kytle, Tomball.

009Richard E. “Rick” Martin was born November 20, 1955 in Maryville, Missouri, to James E and Betty L (Snyder) Martin. Rick passed away at his home on April 9, 2013, after a courageous fight with cancer. His last few days were filled with the loving care of his wife, daughters, family, and friends, and the special care of his Kendallwood Hospice nurses.

Rick grew up in the Tarkio and Fairfax, Missouri, area. He attended school in Tarkio until his freshman year when his family moved to Fairfax, where he graduated high school. Rick was an athlete and during his high school years, he received many conference, district and state honors in football, basketball and track. After graduation, Rick attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. He enjoyed intramural sports and for several years, played softball for George Barnett. After his softball days were over, he enjoyed playing golf with his buddies, especially Duke, Doug and Mike.

On June 19, 1980, he married Trudy Smith and her three daughters became his own. Trudy survives him, along with their girls, Micki Davis, Smithville, Missouri, Heather VanGundy and partner, Mckale Burke, Fairfax, and Summer Pieper and husband, Shawn, Dunlap, Iowa. While the girls were participating in sports, Rick was always in the bleachers supporting them. One of his greatest joys the past 11 years has been being Pappy to his grandchildren, Brock and Baylee Davis, Wyatt Wakely, Braxton Pieper, and Geb Burke. Rick spent countless hours playing catch, pitching baseballs, catching fly balls, reading, snuggling, tickling and playing games with the kids.

Rick worked for Crop Production Services in Westboro, Missouri, for the past 30 years until May of 2012, when he retired due to his health. He covered thousands of acres in Northwest Missouri and Southwest Iowa as a commercial applicator.

Rick was a Christian. Along with being a loving husband, dad and Pappy, he was a true and loyal friend, a hard working man and the go-to-guy when a friend or family member needed a helping hand. He will be missed by the many lives that he has touched.

Rick is also survived by his mother, Betty Martin, Maryville, Missouri; his brothers, John (Debbie) Martin, St. Joseph, Missouri, and David (Laura) Martin, Spearfish, South Dakota; his sister, Linda Smith, Liberty, Missouri; sister-in-law, Carol Clark, Rock Port, Missouri; brother-in-law, Scott (Tammy) Smith, Tarkio; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his large circle of friends. Rick was preceded in death by his father, James; his paternal grandparents, Lester and Beulah Martin; his maternal grandparents, Harold and Mildred Snyder; a brother in infancy; father and mother-in-law, Stan and Darlene Smith; and brothers-in-law, Randy Dunkle and Roger Clark.

010Suzanne Shanahan Bell, age 76, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, in Riverside, CA. Death was due to complications of pneumonia. Due to additional medical complications, Mrs. Bell had been confined to the hospital and skilled nursing facilities for the last eight months.

Mrs. Bell was born in Rochester, NY, September 24, 1936, graduated from St. Agnes Academy and worked for Eastman Kodak. It was on a visit to New York City where she met her husband-to-be, William H. Bell (Colonel, USAF, Ret), then a Captain, during the taping of “The Ed Sullivan Show” on Easter Sunday in 1956.

Married six months later in October of 1956, Mrs. Bell traveled with her husband to Germany, where he was assigned for duty, and where their three children were born. After Germany, the family lived in Niagara Falls, NY, Rochester, and Montgomery, AL (Maxwell AFB), traveled back to Wies-baden, Germany, back to Montgomery, and finally settled in Riverside in 1975 when her husband retired from the Air Force.

During the family’s last tour of duty in Germany, Mrs. Bell accompanied her husband throughout Europe while he coordinated with intelligence personnel of various friendly countries. She served as a Goodwill Ambassador to the wives of foreign dignitaries, military counterparts, and other allied officers. Her skill, tact, and diplomacy as a hostess were unsurpassed and contributed greatly to the friendly cooperation between countries.

For many years in Riverside, Mrs. Bell was an active and very involved volunteer for numerous charitable organizations and community groups. She was an industrious, self-motivated, and intelligent woman who formed and was president of two of her own companies in Riverside: an advertising company and a catering company.

When one mentions the name Suzanne Bell, music and singing come to mind. She loved to sing and shared her gift with everyone. As a young lady, she had her own music show on radio in Rochester. Many lives have been touched by this amazing lady and her lovely voice in and around Riverside.

Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Colonel William H. Bell; her daughters, Suzanne Bell de Garcia of Long Beach, CA, and Kathleen Shanahan Bell-Conine of Zebulon, NC; her grandson, Alexander Javier Garcia-Bell of Long Beach; and two brothers, Frank Shanahan of Fort Pearce, FL, and Daniel Shanahan of Carlsbad, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Gloria Lahon; her brother, Joseph Shanahan; and her son, William M. S. Bell.

012Ova Eugene “Gene” Reynolds, the son of Ova and Elva (Artist) Reynolds was born October 8, 1931 at Whitesville, Missouri. He passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 24 days.

Gene was raised in the Savannah and Fillmore, Missouri areas. He began his farming career after high school. Gene entered the United States Army on July 3, 1952 and served with the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper instructor. On June 14, 1954, he returned to Fillmore following his honorable discharge. Gene was united in marriage to Shirley M. Pennington in Savannah, Missouri on September 19, 1959. They farmed in the Fillmore area until 1964, when they moved to a farm north of Stanton, Iowa where he continued farming until 1979. He farmed a year in Arispe, Iowa and then two years back in Fillmore. In 1982, they returned to the Stanton community. Gene became an over the road trucker, driving for the next 30 years. He enjoyed fishing and reading old western books. Gene loved his dogs who at times would ride along in the truck with him. He was a member of the Masonic Tarkio Lodge #645 of Stanton, Iowa.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Janet Hanner and Patricia Latin.

Gene is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Reynolds of Stanton, IA; two sons: Russell Reynolds and wife Tracy of Stanton, IA; and Scott Reynolds and wife Cecilia of Stanton, IA; five grandchildren: Melinda Meek and husband Devin, Candice Morris and husband Michael, Dennis Reynolds, Tyler Reynolds and Scharley Reynolds; 6 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.

Dolores R. Stoltenberg was born Dec. 7, 1935 in Washington, Mo, the daughter of George and Mabel (Funke) Smith. She graduated from Nebraska City High School in Nebraska City with the class of 1953. Dolores received her teaching degree from Peru State, and later graduated from Tarkio College in Tarkio, Mo. with a BA. She married Del A. Stoltenberg in 1956 in Nebraska City. Dolores taught at West Nodaway School and other middle schools in northwest Missouri. She was a long time resident of Rockport, Mo. and was a member of the First Lutheran Church.  Dolores loved her family and enjoyed playing bridge and making jewelry.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Del of Lincoln; children, Jay Stoltenberg (Ann) of Wall Lake, Iowa, Tracy Garber of Macon, Ga., Missy Vollmer (Mark) of Hamilton, Mo., and Jon Stoltenberg (Jennifer) of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, John Smith (Mary) of Aurora, Colo.; sister, Steph Wisecarver (John) of Maple Lake, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

014Clarice Eloise (Olson) Turner was born to Carl and Nellie (Wedell) Olson on January 23, 1916 at Essex, Iowa. In 1919, the family moved to York, Nebraska where Eloise attended country school and high school until 1932 when the family relocated to Strahan, Iowa. She graduated from the Strahan High School in 1933. Eloise worked for a local cattle feeder and his wife, who didn't drive; taking them on cattle buying trips; traveling as far as Texas.

In 1935, she married Ned H. Turner. To this union three sons were born, Gary, Robert, and Dennis.

Eloise and Ned farmed in the Malvern and Henderson, Iowa areas until they retired in 1974 and moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa. They later moved to Essex, Iowa and remained there for 21 years before moving to Ralston, Nebraska to be closer to family.

Eloise belonged to several clubs and was very active in community and church activities in each community of Malvern, Henderson, and Essex.

Eloise and Ned loved horseback riding, and belonged to a local saddle club, traveling to local parks and to the Colorado Rockies for riding adventures. They also were members of a square dance club, which demonstrated the art of square dancing on a hay wagon going down the street in a parade at Estes Park, Colorado.

Eloise was the oldest of four sisters who all remained in the same vicinity, and enjoyed a close association throughout their lives.

Eloise passed away April 13, 2013 at the Huntington Park Care Center in Papillion at the age of 97 years, 2 months, and 20 days. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ned in 1999; son Robert in 2011; and sisters, Lorraine Grindle, Carol Olson, and Phyllis Lundgren.

Eloise is survived by her sons, Gary Turner and wife Jean of Fairhope, AL, and Dennis Turner and wife Jane of Atlantic, IA; daughter-in-law Mako Turner of Bellevue, NE; six grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law Harriet Turner of Red Oak, IA; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

015Celebration of Life Services for Junior "Rocky" Bolinger, age 78, of Creston, who died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at his home in Creston will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox. Junior Lee "Rocky" Bolinger, 78 of Creston was the second oldest child of Rex Leo Bolinger and Austie (Spencer) Bolinger. He was born south of Mount Ayr, Iowa in rural Ringgold County on March 7, 1935. He said he was just born on a fence post. He worked as a farm hand for Leroy Francis, who had the best strawberries.

He was drafted into the United States Army and served in Korea, 1957 – 1959. When he was discharged, his folks had moved out west of Diagonal, Iowa and lived on the ranch. Rocky helped his Dad milk about 100 head of cows. He later worked for Tom Kenny and Raymond Dill on the farm.

Junior married Sandra Sue Shimer, June 5, 1961. They lived in rural Diagonal on the Roy Lumbard farm. They moved to Lenox in the 1960's and Junior worked for Totes. In 1968, Junior started working at the Farm and Home in Creston, so they moved to Creston in 1970, and he worked there until 1989.

Junior and Sandy decided to adopt and were lucky to get two lovely daughters from Korea.

Rocky liked to garden and always kept his yard well cared for. He collected country and western music. Rocky finally decided to do a little singing with some of the groups in the area. He wished he had started singing several years before he did. Some of the songs he liked to sing himself were: Pass Me Bye, Wind me Up, Kiss An Angel Good Morning and The Fireman.

Junior and Sandy enjoyed attending the Lenox Rodeo and the Diagonal Labor Day celebrations. They attended all the girls' school activities and continued with their grandchildren's activities. Family has always been very special to Rocky.

Hollis Aleene (Nowels) Spencer was born on November 15, 1921 in College Springs, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne and Edna (Woodard) Nowels. Hollis entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Hollis attended school in College Springs. She was united in marriage to David Spencer on February 1, 1941 in Maryville, MO. The couple resided in Hepburn, Iowa following their marriage. She was a loving wife and mother. Hollis enjoyed gardening and camping. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband David; son Darrell J. Spencer; 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Birt H. Johnson, 95, of Skidmore, MO, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, MO.

Birt was born on May 10, 1917, in Toad Holler, near Clearmont, MO. He had formerly resided in the Clarinda and College Springs, IA, vicinity, and moved to Skidmore when he was 12 years old. He graduated from Skidmore High School.

His parents were Elmer A. and Letha Maude (Davison) Johnson, and preceded him in death. Birt was the last living of 10 Johnson siblings. Those that went before him were: Martha Cade, Margaret McKinley, Zora Orme, Lester Johnson, Sam Johnson, Leona Brown, Delmer Johnson, Katherine Lewis, and Ruth Wilson

On October 23, 1938, Birt was united in marriage to Mary Alice Newton, in Skidmore, MO.

In 1943, Birt was drafted by the US Navy, and served his country during WW II.

His memberships included the Skidmore Christian Church, Skidmore Masonic Lodge #511, AF & AM, Skidmore Lions Club, member of the former Sam R. Survivors include his wife, Mary Johnson, of the home; 2 daughters, Connie Wilson, Centennial, CO, and, Sharon Ann (Kenneth) Strauch, Skidmore, MO; 4 grandchildren, Kelly (Brett) Coffelt, Kansas City, MO, Casey (Angie) Strauch, Salem, NE, Tama Serfoss and Tyson Serfoss, both of Centennial, CO; 2 sister in laws, Inez Boyer, St. Joseph, MO, and Liz Newton, Savannah, MO; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, May 4, 2013, at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore, MO. Friends may stop by the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home to sign the register after 2:00 PM Friday. No formal visitation is planned. The family will gather at Newton’s Hall in Skidmore after services.

Audrey Mary (LaMaster) Gregory, 96, Guilford, MO, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013, at the Golden Living Center in Maryville, MO.

Audrey was born on a farm near Guilford, MO, on September 17, 1916. She was a homemaker and helped around the farm. She was a lover of music and had taught piano for many years.

On July 5, 1935, she was united in marriage to Leo Arthur Gregory in Albany, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Luther and Hannah Gertrude (Nelson) LaMaster; her husband of 75 years, Leo, in 2010; and 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.

Survivors include one son, Galen Gregory, Guilford, MO; two daughters, Rhonda Tobin, Guilford, MO, and Carolee Nelson, Ravenwood, MO; 4 grandchildren, Denise Wallace, Kevin Wallace, Scott Tobin, Shawn Tobin; and 1 great grandchild, Danielle Manning.

No formal services or visitation are planned. The burial has taken place at the Weathermon Cemetery, Guilford, MO.

019Desmond Price, age 79, died Monday, May 6, 2013 at Omaha Methodist Hospital after a brief hospitalization. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 10, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Crosby Colonial Chapel in Omaha, Nebraska with Chaplain Tony Salamone officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Memory Cemetery, near New Market, Iowa. Crosby Burket Swanson Funeral Home of Omaha is in charge of arrangements. Desmond Price was born to Herbert and Doris (Jenkins) Price in Cardiff, Wales. He graduated in Cardiff and served in the Royal Air Force of Great Britain. Des came to the United States in 1955 and joined his sister Jean in Omaha, Nebraska. Des worked at Mutual of Omaha from 1956 until his retirement in 1987. His final position there was as an events coordinator. Des took great pride in his work.
Des married Jane Laws of Omaha and this union was blessed with daughter Pamela in 1964. Des married Connie Ellison of Clarinda, Iowa, in 1974. Additional blessings for Des and Connie include grandson Andrew Roach of Omaha, Nebraska, granddaughter Sarah (Mike) Peschong, and great grandson Jace, Firth, Nebraska. Des dearly loved them all.
Des had a great interest in World War II history and memorabilia. He shared many amazing stories of his experience as a child during the war and was very proud of his heritage. Des was a hunting and gun enthusiast and was extremely knowledgeable about firearms and general world history. Des enjoyed his home and his yard. He had a great sense of humor and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Des is preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean Hampe and brother-in-law Jim, sister Nita Markevics, and brother-in-law David Andrews, all of Cardiff Wales, father and mother-in-law Harold and Marcella Ellison, of Clarinda, Iowa, and niece Julie Fallon.
Survivors include wife Connie Price, daughter Pamela Price, grandchildren Andrew Roach and Sarah (Mike) Peschong, great grandson Jace Peschong. 020Bonnie May Bunting was born on September 28, 1922 in Clarinda, Iowa; a daughter to Charles Ralph and Ola May (Berry) Taylor. She graduated from Clarinda High School and on August 8, 1942 was married to Leland Keith Bunting in Shambaugh. This union was blessed with two children: Charles and Janice.
Bonnie was an active member in the Church of God in Shambaugh. She was loving and dedicated to her family, church and community. She will be greatly missed.
Bonnie passed away at the age of 90 years and 8 months on May 21, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Maryville, Missouri. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Leland; brothers: John Taylor and Henry Taylor and sisters: Jane Scroggs, Wanda Taylor and Ruby Taylor.
Surviving Bonnie are her children: Charles Bunting and wife Deb of Shambaugh, IA and Janice Goettsche of Braddyville, IA; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters: Peggy Burkehart and husband Joe of Bellevue, NE and Hazel Sunderman and husband Norman of Plattsmouth, NE; brothers: Ralph Taylor and wife Marsha of Phoenix, AZ and Jim Taylor and wife Robin of Littleton, CO; devoted friend and caregiver Roy Eberly of Ogilvie, Minnesota; along with many extended family members and friends.

021Ruby Geraldine Griffith, was born May 31, 1917 in Coin, Iowa to Elmer Alexander Harris and Mary Elizabeth (Dalbey) Harris.
An accomplished pianist by the time she graduated from Coin Consolidated High school in 1935, Ruby won a scholarship to study music at the University of Iowa. While attending the university, Ruby met and married David Grannis Griffith. They had one son David Harris Griffith.
Ruby continued her piano studies for the next 20 years.
During WW11, Ruby and her husband and son lived in Wichita, Kansas, where Ruby and her husband worked at the Boeing Airplane Factory. After the war ended in 1941, Ruby took a job as a Federal Civil Service Employee. During the next 35 years she worked for various agencies until she retired from the Marine Corps Finance Center in Overland Park, KS in 1977.
Ruby was a member of the Leawood United Methodist Church in Kansas the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Huguenots Society, and Chapter GI of P.E.O. She enjoyed gardening and the beautiful blooms of nature.
Surviving Ruby are her son David Harris Griffith of Kansas City, Missouri; sister Edith Haris Liggett of Alamo, California; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service for Ruby was held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at Kingswood, 10000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO. Gravesides services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24 at the Elmwood Cemetery in Coin, Iowa.

022Lois Madeline Foote, aged 62, died peacefully on May 16, 2013 in Bedford IA , after a brief struggle with a stroke and numerous medical conditions. Lois was born Jan 31, 1951, in Council Bluffs IA, the daughter of Harold Donald Nielsen and Erma Eleanor Pruett.
Lois thoroughly enjoyed singing, embroidery and her work. She touched the hearts of many at her job with singing hymns and prayer with the clients. Lois graduated from Treynor High School and attended Iowa West Community College, where she obtained her degree as a LPN. Lois was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Council Bluffs IA and the Church of God of Prophecy in Olathe KS.
In 1973, Lois married the love of her life Robert Leroy Foote on May 26 in Council Bluffs IA. She was blessed with three beautiful children whose names were Robert Lynn Foote, Brenda Dawn Cartwright and Julie Christina Lee.
Lois is survived by her husband, Robert Leroy Foote, and children Artena Mackey, Bedford IA. Robert Lynn Foote and Melissa Foote, Andover KS. 023Jim Millhone, a local attorney died in Omaha May 15. He had been associated with the A's program from its inception, except for a few years when in hes early career took him to other locations before returning to Clarinda to establish his law practice.
He was a member of the first high School tea when baseall was reinstated as a varsity sport in 1954 and won the Hawkeye 8 championship in its inaugural year and played with the A's until his college days were over, joining the team again when he came back to town. Folling his playin days, Millhone was a member of the A's board of directors, serving in many capaities, bein secretary until just two years ago.
He was inducted into the A's Hall of Fame in 1985 in recognition of his playing and support of not just the A's, but his involvement in many community and church activities

Richard Lee Miller was born Oct. 22, 1959, in Corning to Edwin Miller and Esther (Ridnour) Miller. He grew up on a farm southwest of Sharpsburg. He attended school in Lenox and later obtained his GED.
Richard lived in Des Moines for many years working a variety of jobs as a handyman, returning to Clarinda about ten years ago and continued to be very helpful to friends and at his apartment complex. He enjoyed cleaning and collecting brass and restoring brass fixtures. Richard always had a smile on his face and had a willingness to help others. He was very knowledgeable about the Bible and the Lord.
Preceding Richard in death were his father; sister, Janice Peterson; brother, Darrell Miller.

025Clarence Lowell Rucker, age 86, of Red Oak, passed away, Sunday, May 12 at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak. Clarence Lowell Rucker was born September 9, 1926 in Clarinda the son of Clarence and Florence (Bramble) Rucker. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Mary Irene Graham o n May 2, 1945 in Troy, Kansas. Lowell and Mary lived in many different places over the years. They moved back to the southwest Iowa area in 1964. Lowell retired from Dolly Madison when they were living in Lincoln, Neb. Lowell had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak for the past six years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Mary; brothers: Don and Lee Rucker; and grandson: Chad Rucker. 026Leslie Wayne Johnson was taken by our Lord to live with Him in heaven on May 11, 2013.

He was born in Taylor County, Iowa on December 16, 1927 to Leslie and Esther (Lundquist) Johnson. Wayne was married to Nadine Hewitt on June 8, 1946, and from this union, they were blessed with five children. Wayne and Nadine farmed in the Guss area for many years. Wayne also worked at Sierp Oil in Villisca and enjoyed driving the school bus for many years. In later years, he worked at UARCO in Corning. After retirement, he returned to his school bus driving, especially enjoying the games and activities that he drove students to.

Wayne was first and foremost a BlueJay and supporter of all of the sports teams at Villisca. He also loved the Chiefs, the Royals, Creighton BlueJays and all sports in general. He enjoyed fishing and his visits to the Colorado Mountains. He will be remembered for his love of family, friends and life.

Wayne and Nadine were total supporters of their children. They faithfully and proudly attended the activities of their children and often their grandchildren.

Wayne is survived by his children: Larry and Sandy Johnson of Iowa Falls, Dan and Alberta Johnson of Liberty, Missouri, Brenda and Don Graffis of Longmont, Colorado, Marcia and Paul Blain of Council Bluffs, Steve and Teri Johnson of Shenandoah, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, siblings Marvin, Betsy Ann and Norman and a host of friends, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine, his parents, siblings Dean, Bernice, and Ray and son-in-law Gordon Brown.

Funeral services for Wayne will be held on Tuesday, May 14, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Villisca with interment following the service in the Villisca Cemetery.

027Graveside services for Treva M. Milligan of Chicago, Illinois, and formerly of Villisca, Iowa, took place Thursday, May 16, 2013, at the Villisca Cemetery in Villisca, Iowa.

Treva Marie Milligan daughter of Lonnie Milligan and Faye Jennie Van Alstine Milligan was born February 10, 1916 in Villisca, Iowa of Taylor County and passed away May 11, 2013, at the age of 97 years and 3 months. Treva grew up in the Guss vicinity and attended country schools there. Please make note that Treva’s small town was located on the then CB&Q Railroad, unaware that her career would be in transportation. Treva started down the
path of education, obtaining her teaching certificate in the early 1930’s.
Treva went to Omaha, Nebraska in 1942 to pursue a career in business, something not typical at that time for a lady from a small town. Treva was always ahead of her time, and was a mentor to so many other women she influenced. Treva was employed by the New York Central, an off-line passenger department handling all passenger reservations to New York City. A good portion of clients were ready-to-wear clothing buyers in Omaha and the vicinity.
An opening came about as secretary to the then traffic manager in Omaha for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad. Treva was employed there and in 1956 transferred to Chicago and was secretary to the freight traffic manager for the Chicago area where she remained until retirement in March 1981.
Even after retiring from the railroad, Treva decided to start her second career! An unprecedented move for a woman of her era. Treva was always ahead of her time. Treva went into the real estate industry working for Thomas F. Seay and Associates, Gordon Strong & Company and Seay and Thomas Construction and Development, Inc. It is at those three companies, that she formed yet another family of admirers and friends.
During her career and through to her passing, Treva became deeply committed to organizations she truly loved and devoted so much of her time to. Soon after arriving in Chicago Treva became familiar with the National Association of Railway Business Women and joined the Chicago Chapter. Treva was president two terms (when the membership was nearly 1,200 members) and served as chair on every committee. Treva was elected to serve on the national board of NARBW as recording secretary, 3rd vice president, 2nd vice president and has attended nearly every convention, since becoming a member.
Other organizations Treva dedicated her time to included Woman’s Traffic Club of Chicago, where she was president in 1971-72 and her latest and greatest organization, the Transportation Old Timers Society (TOTS). TOTS is a culmination of all of her colleagues over her many decades in the transportation industry. Up to only a few months ago, Treva could be organizing a luncheon or a holiday party or simply providing any services to her TOTS friends, no matter what the task. Even as recent as 18 months ago, Treva travelled with a dear friend to a convention! Nothing stopped Treva in her passion for transportation and her dedication was a tribute to her love for her colleagues and beloved TOTS pals.
Treva was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister and brother Harry James Milligan.
Treva is survived by family members, and a host of friends, including railroad and transportation friends, who were like
family to her.

Raymond Kenneth Eitzen was born September 3, 1927 in Page County near Bethesda to Herman Eitzen and Emma (Sunderman) Eitzen. He grew up on the family farm with his four brothers and two sisters. Raymond graduated from Clarinda High School in 1945 and attended two quarters at Iowa State University, Ames. He joined the Marines April 4, 1946 and served until April 21, 1947 at the end of World War II while stationed in Los Angeles, California. He was united in marriage December 9, 1961 to Antoinette Cecelia (Tony) Fucinaro in Omaha, Nebraska at the Pacific Hills Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death October 21, 1996.
Raymond started farming in 1947 and bought the home place in 1959. He also worked at Swanson Grocery in Clarinda for three years while in High School. He worked two winters in Los Angeles for Lockheed Aircraft 1955-1956 and 1956-1957. Farming and raising cattle was his love and passion. Raymond also enjoyed watching sports. Raymond was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Villisca, Iowa and the Farm Bureau. Family was important to Raymond and he was very fond of his nieces and nephews as well as Tony's two nieces.
Preceding Raymond in death were his parents; wife, Tony; brothers, Walter Eitzen, Harold Eitzen, Lloyd Eitzen, Wilbur Eitzen; sisters, Leona Robberts, Marjorie Moore and infant sister, Mildred Eitzen.
Survivors include his special friend, Aileen Schafer of Villisca; sisters-in-law, Ruth Eitzen of Villisca, Marie Eitzen of Clarinda; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and many friends.

029Becky King passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held Monday, May 13, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. Visitation was held from 1-3 p.m., prior to services.
Becky was born May 12, 1948 in College Springs to Robert and Bette Scott. Becky worked for many years in the insurance industry, the latest being for Equifax.

030Eileen Rosalia Seipel, 92, Maryville, Missouri, died Saturday, June 1, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Eileen was born May 23, 1921, in Conception, Missouri to Charles George and Lucy Bliley Wiederholt.

On January 15, 1946, Eileen and Raymond Earl Seipel were married at the Conception Abbey, in Conception.

A homemaker, Eileen was very involved in all activites at her church, St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Maryville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Stephen Seipel, two brothers: Charles Wiederholt Jr. and Leonard Wiederholt, three sisters: Agatha (Ace) Seipel, Deane Shanks and Sr. Dorothy Wiederholt.

031Donald Edmond Giesken, 83, Maryville, formerly of Parnell, Missouri, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Heartland Regional Medical Center, Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Donald was born June 28, 1929, in Parnell, Missouri to Frank and Celia Milligan Giesken.

A 1947 graduate of Parnell High School, he was a heavy equipment operator.

Don married his first wife, Marcella Spoonemore, July 8, 1950 in Parnell. She preceded him in death April 18, 1996.

On October 14, 2000, Don married Beverly Florea Carmichael in Parnell.

Donald was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, and also served on the Parnell Housing Board and Parnell City Council for many years.

Preceding him in death were his parents, first wife, Marcella, sisters:

Frowina Flatten and Rita, Clara, and Edna Giesken, brothers: Vincent and Gerald Giesken and step-grandson, Bryan Allen.

Don is survived by his wife, Beverly Giesken of the home in Maryville, three sons: David (Marta) Giesken, Ravenwood, Missouri, Frederick (Karen) Giesken, Parnell, Missouri and Gregory (Karen) Giesken, Maryville, Missouri, step-children: Bruce (Leanne) Carmichael and Kim (Terri) Carmichael, both of Maryville and Vicki Clack, Augusta, Georgia, twenty grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren

A parish rosary will be held at 5:00 PM Tuesday, June 4, at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville. It will be followed by a visitation from 5:30-7:30 PM.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 5, also at St. Gregory Catholic Church, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Parnell, Missouri

032James Edwin Lance, 73 Maryville, Missouri died on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at his home.

Jim was born October 17, 1939, the son of the late Edward Everett and Mary Fleenor Lance.

Jim was a 1957 graduate of Graham High School and memberships included St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Maryville, the National Rifle Association and the Republican Party. He also formerly served in the Missouri National Guard.

He was united in marriage to Peggy Ann O'Connor, April 16, 1966 in Lawler, Iowa. Jim was a lifelong farmer in the Graham and Maryville area.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife Peggy of the home, Maryville, three sons Tim (Cindy) Lance, Barnard, Missouri, Chris (Rebecca) Lance and Eric (LInda) Lance both of Skidmore, Missouri, ten grandchildren Andrew (Jenny), Aricca, Bailee, Brian, Cassi, Kyle, Kevin , Kendal, Buffie, and Maddie Lance, one great granddaughter Audrey Lance, one brother Wayne (Jackie) Kline, Loveland, Colorado, many nieces, nephews and a host of other friends and loved ones.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, June 1, 2013, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Maryville, where a parish prayer service will be held at 5 PM on Friday, May 31. Visitation will follow the prayer service from 5:30- 7:30 PM. Jim's wishes were to be cremated after the Burial Mass. Inurnment will be in Swan Chapel Cemetery near Skidmore, Missouri at a later date

033Allison Lea "Poppy" Calfee, 49, Hopkins, Missouri died on Monday, May 27, 2013, at her home in Hopkins.

Poppy was born February 25, 1964 in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of Raymond Elvin and Alice Faye (Kreps) Cross. She was united in marriage to John F. Calfee October 5, 2002 in Hopkins.

Poppy was a member of First Christian Church, Hopkins, and the American Association of Certified Professional Coders, and a graduate of North Nodaway High School Class of 1982.

Poppy was a Certified Professional Coder for Saint Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Poppy was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Cross on February 5, 2003.

Survivors include; Husband John, of the home, Hopkins, son Luke Ramsey and fiance' Trista Booher, Bedford, Iowa, daughter Ali RaeAnn Ramsey and friend Kiel Brittain, Clarinda, Iowa, from her first marriage, one granddaughter Madiysn Ramsey, Bedford, mother Alice Cross, brother Raymond "Skeeter" Cross, and sister Marcia (Randy) Beason, all of Hopkins.

Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the Hopkins Christian Church, where visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Wednesday. Interment will be in the Hopkins Cemetery

034Byron D. Milbank, 88 of Maryville, Missouri died on Monday, May 27, 2013, at his home.

Bryon was born February 7, 1925 in Clearmont, Missouri. He was the son of the late Eldon Lewis and Sarah Laurel (Reed) Milbank. He was united in marriage to Marles Busby, June 7, 1947 at the First United Methodist Church, in Maryville. Marles preceded him in death January 5, 2010.

He was a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University and was owner/operator of the Milbank Oil Company and also farmed near Clearmont, Missouri.

Bryon was a US Army Veteran of World War II, serving as a Sergeant in the Army from 1943 until 1946.

Byron's other memberships included the First United Methodist Church, Elks Club and Maryville Country Club, all of Maryville.

Bryon is the last of his group of lifelong friends which included, Ed and Quentin Gray and Pete Younger.

His survivors include; son, Jim (Terri) Milbank, Cicero, Indiana, daughter, Jana Lea Jordon, Springboro, Ohio, granddaughter Alexandra (Rodger) Rothwell, Ventura, California, grandsons Kyle Jordon, Sherman Oaks, California, Jay D. Milbank, Noblesville, Indiana,Tayler Milbank, Cicero, Indiana, three great grandchildren Sullivan James Rothwell, Kian Rothwell, and Bridgett Rothwell, all of Ventura, California and a host of other friends and loved ones.

Funeral Services will be at 11AM, Friday, May 31, at the First United Methodist Church, Maryville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services from 10-11 AM. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville

035Marjorie Faye Smith, 78, Elmo, Missouri died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at her home in Elmo.

Marjorie was born February 07, 1935, in College Springs, Iowa to Eurode O. and Marjorie Elizabeth (Dow) Livengood.

A graduate of Elmo High School, Class of 1954. She was self-employed as a wall paper hanger. Marjorie also had worked as a Library Aide for Nodaway-Holt School and as a cook for the Nodaway County Sheriff's Department.

She married Zealand "Zeke" Pryor Smith on December 4, 1955 in Elmo.

Marjorie was a member of the Elmo Christian Church, the Elmo Betterment Club and a former member of the Nodaway County Rescue (Elmo).

Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents, husband Zeke (2006), daughter Anita Jo Hutchison (2008), two brothers Lynn "Curley" and Dale Livengood.

Survivors include: daughters Melinda (Jim) Thompson, Elmo, Connie (Tim) Randall, Skidmore, Missouri, son-in-law Steve Hutchison, Marla (Ted) Finney, Quitman, Missouri, Tina Ripley, Elmo, son Zealand Robert "Bobby" (Donna) Smith, Elmo, two sisters Marie Twaddle, Maryville, Missouri and Connie (Gary) Marriott, Clarinda, Iowa, 21 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation 5-7 PM, Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Funeral Services will be 10 AM, Tuesday, May 21, at the Elmo Christian Church. Burial will be in the Elmo Cemetery

John C. Plummer, 70, Guilford, Missouri, May 15, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri.

John was born September 8, 1942, in Oto, Iowa to Mark and Helen (Zerfing) Plummer.

John was a self employed tool and die maker.

He married Lila Gardner Plummer on April 11, 1964, in Climbing Hill, Iowa.

He served his country in the US Army in 1958-1961.

Preceding John in death were his parents and brother Ken Plummer.

Survivors include his wife Lila Plummer of their home in Guilford, MO, and children Renee (Kevin) Wolf, Barnard, MO, Mark (Kim) Plummer, Kearney, MO, Monica Plummer, Graham, MO, brother Jim Plummer, Rapid City, SD, sisters Marlene Harold, Council Bluffs, IA, and Barbara Wiggs, Sloan, IA, grandchildren Steven, Nikk, Emily, Payton, Reece, Noah, Avery, Shelby, and Alex, great granddaughters Caitlin and April, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
