001Alan Dean Harris, formerly of Bedford and Davenport, IA and Chanhassen, MN, currently of Holly Springs, NC, a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, friend and practical joker who put family first then golf and then work, left us too soon at the age of 55 on February 12, 2013. He leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Jackie; sons, Ben and JJ; daughter, Kristen and fiancé, Shane Ryan; brother, Dennis and wife, Cindy; and sister, Valery; sister-in-law, Sandy; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and sharp wit. We will celebrate the man he was and the people he taught us to be. See you on the back 9!

002Ronald Ernest Plucker was born July 25, 1940 in Chancellor, South Dakota, the son of Ernest William and Josephine Doris (Ridgeway) Plucker. He passed away on Tuesday morning, Feb. 12 at his home in Coin at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 18 days.
He grew up and attended school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Following high school he served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until 1960. On Feb. 10, 1979, he was united in marriage to Betty Ann Brown in Topoc, AZ.
The couple lived in Arizona and California before moving to Iowa. Ron worked in construction and as a heavy equipment mechanic for many years. After moving to Coin, he worked as shop foreman at Mt. Arbor Nurseries, worked for Turnbull Sandblasting and drove a hot shot truck for Keene Thummmel Trucking for ten years. He was a life member of the V.F.W. He loved to be outside, whether it was hunting, camping or taking care of his yard, Ron loved the outdoors. When Ron was young he liked to rodeo. He rode the broncs and bulls. He enjoyed his many friends and family members, not to forget his dog Buddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Matthew Walker; son-in-law, Clarence Walker; and a nephew, Cullen Plucker.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Plucker of Coin; his children, Rhonda Wilkinson and her husband Tim of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Rochelle Rock and her fiancé Kip Schmidt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jeana Walker of Shambaugh, Michael Brown of Wilcox, MO; six grandchildren, Nikole Walker, Wade Wilkerson, Jenna Wilkerson, Gage Smith, Marci Smith, Ashley Brown; one great grandson, Jakob Brown; two sisters, Joanne Redenius and her husband Ralph of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Nancy Gibbons of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a brother, Larry Plucker and his wife Rita of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Celebration of life services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 18 at the Assembly of God Church in Shenandoah with Pastor Dan Ver Woert officiating. 006Helen Louise Reed was born Nov. 19, 1926 near Coin, the daughter of Harry and Lizzie (Meyers) Eitzen. She passed away on Friday morning, Feb. 8 at her home in Shenandoah at the age 86 years, 2 months and 20 days.
She grew up in the Coin area and graduated from Coin High School. On Feb. 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to Howard Reed in Red Oak, Iowa. This union was blessed with 5 children; Mike, Becky, Bobbi, Ted and Jeff.
Helen was a hard worker and a homemaker for her family. She drove a school bus and worked for Eaton Corporation for many years. During her retirement years she enjoyed delivering flowers for Shenandoah Floral. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Trinity Lutheran Church in Shenandoah and the Quilt COOP Clucker Quilt Group. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed gardening, flowers and sewing. Her true love was her family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; her daughter Becky; her son Ted; and two brothers, Ivan Eitzen and Ermal Eitzen.

Thaine Mason Cabbage was born Sept. 27, 1935, the son of Orval Cabbage and Clara (Mason) Cabbage. He was born in the East River Township near Clarinda. Thaine graduated from New Market High School in 1954. He was married to LaDonna Pratt on May 22, 1954; this union was blessed with four children. They were later divorced and he married Marcia Eleanor Williams. Thaine and Eleanor made their home in Clarinda.
Thaine was a dedicated agri-business man, devoting most of his career serving the New Market and Clarinda area. He began his career with owning a portable feed grinder and grinding for area farmers which led to ownerships and management in Clarinda Elevator and Coin Grain. Thaine finished his career in partnership with his son Rick as co-owners of the Clarinda Feed Service.
Thaine's favorite past time was his love for his horses. He began pulling horses as a very young boy. This was a passion that he shared with his father Orval and passed down to his children and grandchildren. His horses were very personal to him. In later years, he pulled ponies and then draft horses. Some pulling accomplishments include winning the nationals in 1973 and winning the Iowa State Fair several times; his favorite team of ponies, Danny and Doc, was unbeaten for at least five years. Second only to his love for horses, was a shared love with his family for Nebraska Football. Go Big Red!!
Thanie was preceded in death by his parents, Orval Cabbage and Clara Mason Cabbage; sister, Carol Cabbage Thornburg and her husband Sergeant Vincent Thornburg and brother Keith Cabbage; brothers-in-law, Lester Williams and Joe Williams; sister-in-law, Ailene Williams (Joe's wife); father and mother-in-law Mason and Izola Williams and step grandson, Mason Fugle.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Eleanor Williams Cabbage of Clarinda; his children, Gail Cabbage Eitzen and husband Gerald of Clarinda, Steve Cabbage and wife Renay of New Market, Kevin Cabbage and wife Shelly of Stanton, and Rick Cabbage and wife Jolene of New Market; step children, Jack Fugle of Springfield, Missouri, Randy Fugle of Villisca; seventeen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother, Don Cabbage and wife Marilyn of Bradenton, Florida; sister, Janet Cabbage McClarnon of Charlotte, North Carolina; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Raymond Eugene King of Phoenix Arizona, passed away peacefully at his home in Phoenix ,AZ February 8th 2013. He was born October 22nd,1939 in Iowa City, Iowa to Frank Frederick and Opal Darlene (Hoops) King. He grew up in Colorado, later moving to Bedford, Iowa where he graduated with the class of 1958 at Bedford Community High School. He served with the 101st Airborne in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After being discharged, he worked at jobs in Iowa, Illinois, Colorado, and lastly, Arizona. Ray (Gene as called by many family members) is survived by his wife of 22 years, Donna, daughter from former marriage, Kimberly Allen, granddaughter Breanna, and great granddaughter, Lillianne, his mother Opal King, brothers David and Frank, and sister, Julia. He was preceded in death by his father Frank, 2 nephews, one niece, and sister in-law, Donna. Ray had a love for the outdoors-especially fishing. He, along with family and friends, tried his luck in many waters, in several states, usually with good results. He had a special bond with his faithful dog, Poncho and they were rarely seen apart. A litter of rescued kittens provided companionship and enjoyment in his declining years. He will be sadly missed by all- his smile, his sense of humor, his love for family and friends. 009Phyllis Loy Miller Beery, 88, was born to Glenn Gale and Irma Francele (Loy) Miller on July 21, 1924, near Yorktown. She passed away Feb. 7, 2013, at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda.
Phyllis graduated from Clarinda High School in 1942. She attended the University of Iowa for one year and studied nursing at the University of Nebraska Hospital. She was a clerk at Schoenberg's Ladies Shop before marrying Wendell Hugh Beery on April 28, 1946. After marriage she worked as a bookkeeper at International Harvester in Clarinda and a phone operator in Emerson. In 1950 she and Wendell purchased a farm near Shambaugh, Iowa. They had two children.
Phyllis enjoyed cooking and painting, a hobby she pursued with her mother and sister. She also enjoyed working with the animals on the farm and cultivating a large garden. For many years she worked at the Page County Savings and Loan (now Page County Federal Savings Association), greeting all her customers with a friendly smile. The church and especially the choir were important parts of Phyllis's life, and she often sang solos for worship.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother Glenn Charles, husband, and infant grandson.
She is survived by her sister Edith and husband Robert Beery of Clarinda; sister-in-law Carolyn Beery of Clarinda; her son Leslie and wife Ellen Beery of Highland, Calif.; her daughter Melanie and husband Gordon McQuere of Topeka, Kan.; her granddaughter Anna McQuere and fiancé Samer Yahyawi of New York, N.Y.; and granddaughter Sarah and husband Timothy Patterson of Lansing, Mich.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bill was born October 17, 1930 in Ames, Iowa, the third child of M.K. and Vivian (Scott) Sawyer. He graduated from Bedford High School in 1948 and married Ann Norton in Hopkins, MO May 27, 1951. He had been involved in the retail grocery business in Bedford, Story City, and Dows, Iowa before purchasing and operating the Lenox Super Valu Store in Lenox. After 11 years in Lenox Super Valu, he was employed as a meat inspector for the State of Iowa.
He was an avid golfer and has 11 (!) holes-in- one. He also enjoyed bowling, restoring Model A Fords, and motorcycling. Bill had a gift for singing and was a member of a quartet while living in Dows as well as a member of the Lenox and Yuma, AZ church choirs. Bill was a member of the Lenox Rotary Club, Masons, Shriners and the Lenox United Presbyterian Church. He was a wonderful, dedicated Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa who loved spending time with his family. Bill had a zest for life and was a jokester. Whenever there was a family get-together, all of the nieces and nephews would return to their respective homes with a fresh supply of "Uncle Bill stories". Bill was preceded in death by his parents M. K. and Vivian, a son Scott, a grandson Brad, brother Charles, and sisters Elise Tranbarger and Kay Dinsmoor.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Ann, son Steve and wife Connie, daughter Jill Sawyer, daughter-in-law Erena Sawyer-Wagner, grandchildren Tyson Sawyer and fiancee Kathryn Polking, Alison Munter and husband Josh, Tara Suter and husband Adam, Devon Sawyer, and Paxton Sawyer. Cecil was a member of the Hopkins Baptist Church, Hopkins, Missouri.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers Lloyd and Carl Nicholas; two sisters Opal Nicholas and Vera Mae Snodderley.

012Harry Ronald Thompson, 99, Hopkins, Missouri, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri.
Harry was born January 28, 1914, in Hopkins, Missouri to George and Magdalene Elizabeth Thompson.
Harry attended Gaynor School, was a farmer, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Pickering, Missouri and was of the Christian faith.
He married Alma Wiley Thompson April 04, 1936, in Clarinda, Iowa.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife Alma Lenora Wiley Thompson, (December 5, 2008), his parents, son Carl Richard Thompson (February 9, 1974), and sisters Marguerite Pittsenbarger, Esther Martin, Mildred Dieter, and Helen Godsey, a brother Roy Thompson, and a great grandson Logan Thornton.

013Delores Eleanor (Goecker) Renander was born December 16, 1921 in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin J. and Eleanor (Sunderman) Goecker. Delores entered into the arms of her Lord, at the age of 91, on February 5, 2013, while a resident at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda.
Delores grew up on a farm north of Clarinda. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School, and graduated from Clarinda High School with the Class of 1939. On June 7, 1942 she was united in marriage to Warren Renander. The couple resided for over forty years on a farm east of Essex, where they raised their family.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. After her marriage, she became an active member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher and was involved in women’s organizations, choirs and the quilting group. As her children grew, she served as a 4-H leader for many years and later became an Honorary and Alumni member. Delores enjoyed her long term membership in the Bethesda 4-T Neighborhood Birthday Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; her husband of 52 years Warren; and daughters-in-law: Rozanne Renander and Barbara Renander.
Those left to cherish her memory include; sons: Warren Jr. (Brenda) Renander of Webster, Texas; Dennis (Carol) Renander of East Galesburg, Illinois; daughter Jeanette (Bill) Rhyan of Fort Worth, Texas; sisters: Marilyn Kirchner of Clarinda, Iowa and Ardith Spies of Dallas, Texas; sisters-in-law: Jean Renander and Delores D. 014Helen Jean (McMillin) Coleman, age 84, of Gravity, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 4, 2013, at the Bedford Nursing & Rehab Center, in Bedford, Iowa. Helen was born on September 27, 1928, in rural Bedford to Gene Edward and Alma Beatrice (Lee) McMillin. The oldest of 10 children, Helen would tell you she spent most of her time growing up "taking care of kids" and dreaming of becoming an aviator! After graduating from Bedford High School in 1946, she moved to Maryville, MO, where she waitressed while dating Bill Coleman.
After a short courtship filled with trips to the Candy Kitchen, Hopkins and Maryville, Helen married Bill on December 31, 1948, in Grant City, MO, and they began farming on "the ranch" in rural Hopkins. In 1955, their one son, Kevin, was born, and in the spring of 1958 they moved north of Gravity to start the family farm. Helen enjoyed raising chickens and bottle calves. After moving into Gravity in 1970, she would still make frequent trips to the farm on her motorcycle or moped to do chores or visit Kevin's family.
Affectionately referred to as "The Boss" by her family, Helen enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, traveling, going to the Starlight with Bill, and spending time with family.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Norman, Marvin, and Ronald; sisters Flo Marie and Mary; and brothers-in-law John Million and Roy McGraw.

015Ann Bergren, 87, of the Eastern Star Masonic Home and formerly of 920 South Marshall Street in Boone passed away at the Boone County Hospital in Boone on Sunday morning, February 3, 2013.
She was born on July 10, 1925 in Bedford, Iowa the daughter of Homer and Lula (Davison) Carmichael.
She married Allan Bergren. The couple later divorced.
Ann was a graduate of Bedford High School. She received her nursing diploma from Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing and later her Bachelor Degree from the College of St. Francis. Ann was a night supervisor at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City until the late 1950’s before moving to Boone where she was a nurse at the Boone County Hospital until her retirement. Ann always took great pride in the care she provided to the patients in her care and the level of professionalism she demonstrated.
She was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church and past member of the Democratic Women’s Club. Ann loved playing golf, enjoyed playing bridge, and was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos and Iowa Hawkeye football team.
Her parents; son Mark Bergren; and 2 brothers Marvin Carmichael and Bob Carmichael preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter Norena Caniglia and husband Phil of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren Ann Hetland and husband James of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Mary Kay Hill and husband Ryan of Iowa City, Iowa, Ross Caniglia of Sioux City, Iowa and Alan Caniglia of West Des Moines, Iowa; a great-grandson James Hetland of Maple Grove, Minnesota; a sister-in-law Jean Carmichael of Centennial, Colorado; and a nephew Randy Carmichael and wife Belen along with their daughters Ali and Morgan all of Boulder, Colorado.
Following Ann’s wishes, her body has been cremated.
A memorial service were held on Friday morning, February 8th at 10:30 a.m. at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone with Pastor Dick Dahle officiating.
Interment was in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

016Charlene GL Coates Parnham, 88, of Gravette, Ark. died Friday, Feb. 1 at Highlands Health and Rehab in Bella Vista. She was born on Sept. 9, 1924 in College Springs the 4th daughter of Charles and Della Coates.
She graduated in 1942 from Elmo High School in Elmo, Missouri. She attended Business College in St. Joseph, Missouri. She married Richard Parnham on Feb. 5, 1945. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Gravette and the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and her husband.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Kelley and husband Robert Kelley; two grandchildren, Michael Kelley of Orlando, Florida and Kathleen (Kent) Baker of Bentonville and two great granddaughters, Kentley and Kelsey.
Visitation were held on Monday, Feb. 4, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd. A Funeral Service were at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at the First Christian Church in Gravette. Burial was at the Georgia Flats Cemetery in Gravette.

Robert Roy Oetken was born August 24, 1940 at the family home in Cook, Neb. to Roy Oetken and Leora (Ruhga) Oetken. He grew up in the Cook, Neb. area and graduated from Cook Community High School in 1958. On March 12, 1977 he was united in marriage to Kathy Ann Engstrand.
Bob worked for Andrew Trailer Sales for thirty two years flying planes and repairing trailers. In 1994, he opened Bob's Trailer Service in Clarinda. He retired in 2006 and moved to Apache Junction, Arizona.
Bob enjoyed going to Tortilla Flats to listen the Mark Lucas Band and other local bands. He especially enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Bob and Kathy enjoyed camping at the mountains, taking in the beautiful scenery and taking pictures. Bob enjoyed spending time with his puppies.
Preceding Bob in death were his father, Roy Oetken, mother and stepfather, Leora and Floyd Davis; parents-in-law, Martin and Sharlene Engstrand.

Shelly Dunn was born Dec. 29, 1961 to Kenneth VanFosson and Shirley (Teuscher) VanFosson in Clarinda and passed away Jan. 26 at her daughter's home in Agency, Missouri. Shelly worked at Lisle Corporation in Clarinda for eighteen years and most recently had worked part-time as a CNA at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda for the last several years. Shelly loved to spend time with her family and friends.
Shelly was preceded in death by her husband; Chuck Dunn, mother; Shirley VanFosson, mother-in-law; Sara Carmichael, father-in-law; Marvin Dunn, and a nephew; Jacob Marriott.

Irene V. Staten, 86, of Ravenwood, MO, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at a nursing home in Maryville, MO.

Irene was born in Pickering, MO, on February 21, 1927, and graduated from the Pickering High School.

Her parents were Isaac A. and Ethel K (Sharr) Treese, they preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her sister, Verna Collins, and 3 brothers, Irvin, Bernard, and Donald Treese.

On September 17, 1945, in Troy, KS, Irene was united in marriage to Eldon Williams Staten. He passed away on June 6, 2001. They lived most all their married life in the Ravenwood area, and Irene was a homemaker. She attended the West Union Primitive Baptist Church, Maryville, MO.

Arnold Parshall, 93, of Burlington Junction, MO, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Richmond, MO.

Arnold was born on December 29, 1919, in Kansas City, MO, to Everett and Fern (Graham) Parshall. In 1921, the family moved to Quitman, MO, and he graduated from the Quitman High School in 1937. On December 29, 1940, in Maryville, MO, Arnold was united in marriage to Leora Dawson. She preceded him in death in July of 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Melvin Parshall.

In 1950, he and Leora purchased their farm south of Burlington Junction, MO, he was a lifelong farmer in the area, and a member of the United Methodist Church, Burlington Junction, MO.

Left to mourn his passing are his children, Eugene (Kathy) Parshall, Weatherford, OK; Carolyn (J.R.) Griffin, Orrick, MO; Janice Sheridan, Inver Grove Heights, MN; and Cheryl Castillo, Clarinda, IA; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Trudy Jane Jacobsen, 44, of Maryville, MO, passed away, Friday, February 8, 2013, at the Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, MO, after a short illness.

Trudy was born on October 30, 1968, in Corning, IA, to Gene and Judy (Page) Clark. She graduated from Creston High School in 1987, and then came Maryville to attend college. She received her B.S. in Business Management from Northwest Missouri State University, and had also worked on her Master’s Degree at Northwest. She was a resident of Maryville for over 20 years, and a great supporter of athletics at Northwest

Trudy worked as a Supervisor for Aramark Food Services on the Northwest campus for the past 16 years. She attended the First United Methodist Church, and was a member of Today’s Civic Women, both of Maryville.

She married Monte D. Jacobsen in Maryville, MO, and he survives of the home. She is also survived by their son, Danner Jacobsen, of the home; her parents, Gene and Judy Clark, Creston, IA; 2 sisters, Sally (Gordon) Hinton, Corning, IA, and Peggy Clark, Corning, IA; maternal grandmother, Betty Page, Creston, IA; 3 nieces, Ann (Cody) Luther, and son Chase, of Creston, IA, Megan (Jesse) Dennis, and son Jayden, Prescott, IA, and Jen (Donald) Shires, and son Wyatt, of Corning, IA; sister in law, Peggy Davis, Avoca, IA.

Henry Harold Crossland, 89, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Butler, MO, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville.

Harold was born on February 8, 1923, in Rich Hill, MO. His parents were Clyde Carroll and Mary (Petty) Crossland, and preceded him in death. He was also preceded by William Isaac Crossland (brother) and Maureen (Crossland) Linard (sister).

Harold was a graduate of Rich Hill High School class of 1941.

On April 15, 1943, Harold entered the US Navy. He was a Signalman aboard USS LST 137 during the June 6, 1944, D-Day landings at Utah Beach in France. He was honorably discharged on April 23, 1946.

Harold married Helen Juanita Herman on November 1, 1945.

His memberships included the Ohio Street Methodist Church, Butler, MO, VFW, and Bass Masters.

Harold worked as an insurance representative with the Prudential Insurance Company in Bates County; retiring in 1979.

His survivors include Barry Ross Crossland (son) and Rebecca Ann Baker (daughter).

Mr. Crossland has been cremated under the direction of the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. A memorial graveside service and celebration, with Military Honors, will be held in the spring at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Butler, MO. Date to be announced later

Norman Lee Kenny, 75, Skidmore, MO, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at his home.

Norman Lee was born on October 21, 1937, in New Point, MO, the son of Freddie and Ethel (Randall) Kenny.

He graduated from the Graham High School, in 1955, and served in the US Army Reserves from 1960-1963.

On October 6, 1961, he married Norma Hilton in Maryville, MO. They farmed together for over 50 years in the Graham area.

He was a member of the former Graham Christian Church.

Norman Lee was preceded in death by his parents, and twin granddaughters, Marci & Michala Rosenbohm.

The biggest enjoyment he got in life was farming, and going with Ciecel to drink coffee and visit with friends. But his greatest enjoyment came from his grandkids visits.

Survivors include his wife Norma, of the home; daughter, Marsha (Mike) Rosenbohm, and 2 grandchildren, Marc & Megan Rosenbohm, all of Graham, MO; sister, Carla (Loren) Markt, Oregon, MO; 2 sister in laws, Marolyn (Jim) Alloway, Graham, MO, and Barb (Allen) Heck, Savannah, MO; 5 nieces, 1 nephew, and cousins.

Bonnie May Argo Ruiz, 74, of Maryville, MO, passed from this life on February 5, 2013, at the Parkdale Manor Nursing Home in Maryville.

Bonnie was born on December 7, 1938, in Skidmore, MO, and had spent most all her life in the Maryville area. Her parents were Donald E. and Vera M. (Sollars) Thompson. Bonnie last worked in housekeeping at the Show-Me-Inn of Maryville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Randy Argo in 1986, and her brother, Donald Thompson in 2009.

Mrs. Emogene G. Hardisty, 89, Maryville, MO, and formerly of Burlington Junction, MO, passed away on Sunday, February 03, 2013, at the Nodaway Nursing Home in Maryville.

Emogene was born on September 10, 1923, in Silver City, Iowa, to Ernest G. and Osie L. (Leedy) Growcock. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alva Hardisty in 2005; sister Carolene Growcock; brothers, John Granger, Chester Growcock; grandson, Mark Corbalby.

Emogene was a member and attended the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Maryville, MO. She worked as a sales clerk with JC Penneys.

Survivors; daughter, Dayle J. (Jay) Murphy, Palmdale, CA; sister, Lois M. Short, Burlington Junction, MO; brother, Robert (Emma Lea) Crowcock, Clarkridge, AR; 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Florence Arlene Myers passed away at the Golden Living Center, Maryville, on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at age 86.

Arlene was a loving wife and caring mother. A home-maker in the traditional sense, she cooked, cleaned, mended, gardened and handled the many domestic duties expected of rural women of her generation. She was mostly a fan of her family – a Cub Scout softball mom, Blue Bird leader, FFA and band supporter, and all-around family cheerleader. She stressed good manners, polite behavior and the importance of an education; seeing that all three of her children graduated from college. A Kansas City Royals fan for many years, she was also a soft touch for a stray cat or a lamb that needed to be raised on a bottle. After her children left home, she served as an American Red Cross volunteer at St. Francis Hospital for many years.

Born on May 15, 1925, Florence Arlene Shelman was the oldest of five children born to Arlie and Florence Shelman, of Worth and Nodaway Counties. Arlene graduated from Sheridan High School, became a teacher, and taught for a period in a one-room school house.

She and her husband of 67 years, Gayland Myers, married on May 23, 1944. Together, the couple farmed in Worth and Gentry Counties, then moved their family to the greater Kansas City area in the early 1950s where Gayland took up carpentry. With their three growing children, the couple returned to northwest Missouri in 1963 and purchased an 80 acre farm on Canal Branch north of Maryville from Arlene’s grandfather, William Noakes.

The couple had three children, Gary A. (Jackie) Myers, Jefferson, Wis., Gerald L. Myers, DVM, Pickering, and Peggy Sue (Scot) Richey, Platte City.

Arlene and Gayland doted on their five grandchildren, Sarah (Jason) Cleaver, Muskego, Wis., Philip Myers, Rochester, N.Y., Beth (Patrick) Richey-Sullivan, Stevenson Ranch, Calif., Madelyn Myers, Waltham, Mass., and Arlie Myers, Omaha, and two great-granddaughters, Lacey and London Cleaver, Muskego, Wis. She also held great affection for three step-grandchildren, Mike (Julie) Reilly, Ankeny, Ia., Katherine Reilly, Moline, Ill., and Brian (Beth) Reilly, Omaha.

Arlene is also survived by one sister, Ella Mae McGinness, Stillwater, Minn., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Larry Shelman, Independence, and Bill Shelman, Kansas City, and a sister, Eva Lee Farris, LaJolla, Calif. The Myers Family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the loving attention of caregivers at the Golden Living Center, Maryville.

Mary Joan McBride, 77, Barnard, Missouri died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Golden Living Center, Maryville, Missouri.

Jo was born February 10, 1936 in Maryville, the daughter of Alva A and Sadie Ellen (Pierson) Hardisty.

She was united in marriage with Darrell Wayne McBride, August 2, 1974 at Conception Junction, Missouri.  A homemaker, Jo retired from Shady Lawn Nursing Home in Savannah, Missouri where she had been Housekeeping Supervisor.

Jo was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church and St Ann’s Alter Society, Conception Junction.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Virginia Shelton, Lela Wilmes and Maxine Wilmes; brothers: Bud and Jack Hardisty and grandson Joshua Diggs.

Survivors include her husband Darrell, of their home in Barnard; a son: James Eugene (Jane) Cowan, Dearborn, Missouri; step-daughter:  Darla (Randy) Diggs, St. Joseph, Missouri; step-son:  Stewart Corwin, St. Joseph; six grandchildren:  Laura and Timothy Cowan; Jessica (Tom) Richards;  Jared and Joel Corwin;, Jacob (Amy) Diggs; a great-grandson: Nathaniel Diggs and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Vivian was born July 19, 1922, in Plattsburg, Missouri, to Delbert Ernest and Mary Marie (Black) Ingram.

A homemaker, Vivian married Joseph William Cruth on May 16, 1939, in Maryville, Missouri who preceded her in death July 27, 1989.

Vivian was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary #3669, Maryville, for 20 years.

Preceding in death were her husband, her parents, an infant sister Audrey Louise Ingram, son Joseph W. (Bill) Cruth and brother Delbert Ingram.

Survivors include daughters Sharon Nelson, Concordia, Missouri, Shirley Cruth, Maryville, 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 19 great great grandchildren, brother Eugene Ingram, sisters Alice Giannotti, Annabelle Baker, and Phyllis Manneveld.

029Opal Lucille Hart, 94, Lenexa, Kansas died on Friday, March 1, 2013, at Lakeview Village Retirement Center.

Lucy was born December 29, 1918 in Pattonsburg, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Leola (Buster) Groomer.

She was united in marriage to Francis Gerald Hart, August 3, 1937.

Lucy was a graduate of Paseo High School, Kansas City, Missouri.

Her life was defined as a devoted wife to Frank who preceded her in death fifteen years to the day; they were  members of the Camdenton United Methodist Church. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters Ann Lloyd and Marjorie Dyer.

Surviving are sisters, Roselee Wilkes, Bisbee, AZ, Dorothy Dyer, Overland Park, KS, eleven nieces and nephews.

Barbara was born September 19, 1970, in Maryville to Edward Eugene and Margaret Louise (Davis) Giggar. She had worked as an Aid in nursing homes in Nodaway County.

Survivors include: one son Ellis Maxwell, Jr. (DJ), Shenandoah, Iowa, two brothers Robert Eugene Giggar, Albany, Missouri, Timothy Allen Giggar, Yorktown, IA, mother Margaret Louise Giggar, Gentry, Missouri, Father Edward Eugene Giggar, Conception Junction, Missouri, aunts, uncles, cousins and several friends.

031Helen Lucille Pettlon, 91, Maryville, Missouri died on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at her home.

Helen was born October 3, 1921in Filley, Nebraska. Her Parents were Basil Henry "Bill" and Zelma (Robey) Auffert.

She was a graduate of Conception High School, Conception, Missouri.

Helen was united in marriage to Norman Andrew Pettlon, Sr. on April 22, 1944 in Wichita, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2002.

Others preceding her in death were her parents, and two brothers F.E "Bud" and Ervin Auffert.

Helen loved playing bridge and was an avid golfer both at the Country Clubs in Maryville and Bedford. Helen was of the Catholic Faith.

Her survivors include five sons, Norman (Dina) Pettlon, Jr., Flower Mound, Texas, Stephen and Richard (Geri) Pettlon, both of Gladstone, Missouri, Kenneth (Barbara) and Fred Pettlon, both of Maryville, Missouri; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Pettlon's body has been cremated and a private memorial services will be held at a later date

032Lenna Mae Walden, age 72, Maryville, Missouri, passed away on February 22, 2013 at Golden Living. She was born August 7, 1940 in Wayne County, Kentucky to Charles Jennings and Ollie (Tucker) Flynn.

Lenna was united in marriage to James Albert Cummins and one child was blessed of this marriage. After the death of James Cummins she was united in marriage to Everett Ray Walden, Sr., March 3, 1964 in Tennessee and two children were blessed of this marriage. She was a member of Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville. Lenna was the office manager for the Director of Missions In Northwest Missouri for several years. Lenna and Everett were former owners of the Cardinal Inn and owned and managed several properties in the Maryville area.

Lenna was preceded in death by her parents Charles Jennings and Ollie (Tucker) Flynn in Somerset Kentucky, first husband James Cummins and second husband Everett Ray Walden, Sr., brothers Frank Flynn, Estel Flynn, James Flynn, John Flynn, Arvel Flynn and Chester Flynn, sisters Zada Shadoan, Ida Hollars, Pauline Flynn, Anna Lee Flynn and Hattie Colyer and daughter Lisa Mae Walden of Kansas City, Missouri.

Survivors include brother Bobbie Flynn, Kentucky, son Douglas Cummins and wife Theresa of Maryville, Missouri and Everett Ray Walden, Jr. and wife Cindy of Salem, Missouri, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-6 PM, Monday, February 25, 2013 at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville, where funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, February 26. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville

033Anna Caroline (Keck) Tonnies, 88, of Maryville, died February 19, 2013, at Parkdale Manor. Anna Caroline, who was known to her family and friends as Tolly, was born March 21, 1924 in Noel, Missouri, on the first full day of spring to Charles Marian and Mable May (Marshall) Keck. She graduated from high school in 1941 in Pittsburg, Kansas and attended business school in Joplin, Missouri, where she met her future husband. Tolly and Robert Henderson Tonnies were married February 14, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri.

After WW II, Henderson went into business with Frank Culp in Skidmore, Missouri. The family moved to Maryville in 1945 and soon joined the First Baptist Church. Tolly was active in the church for many years of her life. She served as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher and was member of the adult Sunday school group. She was the church treasurer for a number of years and acted in that capacity for the Laura Street Baptist Church when it was established. She was member of Eastern Star, The Mutual Improvement Circle, Soroptomists and was a Cub Scout leader. She developed friendships with neighbors and many people throughout the community.

Tolly worked as a bookkeeper for Culp Construction, J.C. Penney, Sears, Rush Printing and also worked as a Secretary for the Missouri National Guard.

She is survived by three children, Robert Henderson (Dana) Tonnies Jr., Charles Marshall (Nora) Tonnies and Anna Carolyn Tonnies; four grandchildren, Eric Henderson (Renee) Tonnies, Andrew Marshall and Ian David Tonnies and Jessica Lea (Josh Neff) Tonnies; three step grandchildren, Dwayne Joseph (Shally) Luzum, Dale John (Tamra) Luzum and Amanda Joy (Shawn) Barney; four great grandchildren and 11 step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, parents, brother and sister, Charles Leslie Keck and Mary Ester Ahrens, grandson Mac Garrett Tonnies and nephew Daniel Tilden Ahrens.

Tolly wished people to know "the greatest achievement and most important job she ever had was being a good loving mother."

034Lorraine "Sis" Holbrook, 73 of Maryville, Missouri died on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Lorraine was born February 20, 1939 in Maryville, Missouri, daughter of the late Charles and Mildred (Mayes) Partridge, Sr.

She was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Holbrook, December 12, 1960 in Caruthersville, Missouri. Bob preceded her in death as did one son, Robert "Sonny" Holbrook Jr.; and three brothers Jack Partridge, Sr., Thomas and Charles "Buddy" Partridge, Jr.

Lorraine was a graduate of Horace Mann High School and was an independant sales representative for Avon Products. Her memberships included Calvary Chapel Church and the Eagles Lodge Auxillary both of Maryville.

Surviving are daughters, Codi (Jamie) Wymore, Hopkins, Missouri, Dawn "Tonei" (Juan Hernandez) Holbrook, Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Julia Partridge, Maryville; sister-in-laws, Ginnia, JoAnn, and Sue Partridge; three aunts, Mary Louise Byergo, Mary Sturm, and Beverly Mayes; grandchildren Whitney and Antonio Holbrook, Halee, Jordan and Chaselynn Wymore, and Stacey Kenter; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 -11:30 AM on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Eagle's Lodge in Maryville, where a luncheon will follow the services.

Mrs. Holbrook's body has been cremated. Interment will be at a later date in Miriam Cemetery, Maryville, MO

William David Bears, 45, Maryville, Missouri died on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at his home in Maryville.

David was born February 21, 1967 in Maryville, the son of Eldon L. and Margaret (Gross) Bears.

He was a graduate of Maryville High School and was employed by Kawasaki Motors working on the production line.

He was a member of St Gregory Catholic Church, Maryville.

Preceding him in death were his father Eldon Bears, an infant brother Martin Lee Bears and a niece Paige Gard.

Survivors include his mother Margaret Bears, Maryville; Chris Bears, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mick Bears, Skidmore, Missouri, Ed Bears, Savannah, Missouri, John (Ginger) Bears, Maryville, Jean Reed, Maryville, Bet (John) Gard, Maitland, Missouri, Sue (Brad) Peve, Hopkins, Missouri; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Mr. Bears body has been cremated.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 11, 2013 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Maryville
