Helen Dorothy Freudenburg died January 4, 2013 at the Eiler House, Clarinda, Iowa. She was born June 11, 1919 at the family in East River Township, the daughter of Albert Hartstack and Mae (Spielman) Hartstack.

After attending Page County country schools, she graduated from eighth grade and continued to work on the family farm in East River Township. In October 1939 she was baptized and confirmed into the St. John Lutheran Church and participated in Walther League. On February 10, 1943, she married Ralph Freudenburg of Clarinda and moved to his farm east of Clarinda. They had two daughters, Elaine and Thelma. The couple lived on the same farm until just after their 50th wedding anniversary in 1993, when they moved to Garfield Manor 1 in Clarinda. Helen served as secretary-treasurer of the Condo association for several years.

Following Ralph's death in 2000, she stayed at the condo until October 2012 when she moved to Eiler House Assisted Living. She was enjoying her new home until 12-12-12 when she broke her hip in a fall.

Over the years, she was known for her embroidering and cookie baking. She helped the quilts at St. John as long as she was able.

Preceding her in death were her parents; infant brother; husband, Ralph, sister-in-law, Phyllis Hartstack; in-laws, Ruben and Edith Freudenburg, Melvin and Leona Freudenburg.

Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Armstrong and Thelma Graham and her husband Roger; granddaughter, Melinda Shakelford and her husband Tony; twin great granddaughters, Kenzie and Kylie Shackleford; and brother, Dale Hartstack all of Clarinda; nieces; nephews and many friends

Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Miller, 92, of Lenox, entered into eternal rest January 3, 2013 in Corning. Services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox. Joseph Eugene "Gene" Miller was born on May 2, 1920 at the family farm northwest of Sharpsburg, Iowa to Joseph and Mary (Sapp) Miller. He attended Grove #9 Country School and graduated from Sharpsburg High School with the Class of 1937.

On June 4, 1944, Gene married Rose Novak. This union was blessed with seven children: Stephen (Sharon) Miller of Wesley Chapel, Florida; Catherine (Howard) Yarnell of Maryville, Tennessee; David (Rita) Miller of Lenox, Iowa; Frances Young of Lakeland, Tennessee; Margaret (Pat) Murphy of Des Moines, Iowa; Nancy (Rick) Long of Sycamore, Illinois; and Alan (Deb) Miller of Lenox, Iowa; Eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren survive.

Gene worked for the U.S. Postal Service delivering mail in Sharpsburg, Lenox, and Creston besides farming, raising dairy cows, mowing the cemetery, and plowing gardens to support his family. Music was very important to him and he had a natural talent, teaching, himself to play several instruments by ear. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lenox, IA.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister Helen in infancy; a brother Raymond Miller; Rose, his wife of fifty years; a granddaughter, Julie Young; and a granddaughter-in-law, Debbie Miller

Mearl Elvin Fay was born February 3, 1919 in Lewis, Iowa the son of James Edward Fay and Minnie Bell (Bartles) Fay. He grew up in Lewis where he graduated from the Lewis High School and entered the United States Army in 1941. Mearl served in the Aleutian Islands and worked on the Alcan Highway. On November 21, 1941, he was united in marriage to Isabelle Dorine Rhoads. The couple was blessed with five sons, Jim, Tim, Max, Paul and Mick.

Mearl worked many years at the Creston Livestock Auction Company and was highly regarded as a livestock buyer. He had a deep love for horses and his sons grew up raising, breaking and riding them. They were also involved in rodeos from Little Britches on up. Mearl's love of horses was passed on to his sons and his grandchildren. He and Isabelle also enjoyed square dancing for many years. They dearly loved the Blue Skirt Waltz.

Left to cherish Mearl's memory are three sons, Tim Fay of Corning; Paul Fay and wife Betty of Lenox; and Mick Fay and wife Kathy of Lewis, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Karen Fay of Purdum, Nebraska; ten grandchildren, Jeanne Fay; Jason Fay; Kimberly Lopez and husband Manny; Mindy Clapper and husband Shane; Max J. Fay and wife Cristin; Kati Bayles and husband Lonnie; Aubrey Weldon and husband Brett; Roger Butler and wife Dominique; Kerri Waller and husband Jayson; and Kasey Fay; twelve great-grandchildren, along with many other extended relatives and friends.

Wanda Eileen Wynn was born March 23, 1931, the daughter of Milo and Ola (Lawson) Hughes near Clarinda, Iowa. She was a graduate of Clarinda High School in 1949 and completed coursework in business and bookkeeping. While still in high school, she began assisting her parents with their bookkeeping and taxes. Growing up, she was active in church events, and in Rainbow, where she served as Worthy Adviser and later as a Mother Adviser. She also participated in musical activities including becoming drum majorette of the marching band her senior year. Following graduation, Wanda was employed at the Clarinda MHI, serving as the Business Manager's secretary. Wanda married her high school sweetheart, Norman Wynn, June 11, 1950, and they were blessed to have celebrated 62 years of marriage. From their union were born three daughters, Cynthia Rae, Debra Janine and Patricia Anne.

In 1951, they moved to a farm near Hawleyville where they resided until 1971 when they moved into Clarinda. Wanda did the bookkeeping for the farm and continued to do so when she and Norman opened their own agricultural business. She was an active farm wife and homemaker. She greatly enjoyed family time and "spoiling" her two granddaughters. Wanda & Norman were fortunate to travel in the U.S. and several foreign countries. They enjoyed traveling, but still loved being at home with family most of all.

Wanda was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, was on the Memorial Committee, sang in the choir and was a member of Rachael Circle. She and Norman were charter members of the Together Sunday School Class where they made many lifetime friends. She served on the Red Cross board, had been a member of Eastern Star and was a member of the NY Chapter of PEO. She was also actively involved with her daughters' 4-H activities while they were growing up. While on the farm, she helped form a new farm woman's club called the Good Neighbor's Union (GNU). After moving to town she also enjoyed meeting with a group of neighborhood ladies to celebrate birthdays.

After retirement, Wanda and Norman spent many happy years in Yuma, Arizona. They enjoyed hosting their family for yearly winter visits as well as friends visiting from home.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Milo and Ola Hughes, as well as one brother and three sisters. She and Norman lost their eldest daughter Cindy in 2003, and Norman passed away in July of 2012. Survivors include daughters Deb (Phil) Tornholm of Clarinda and Pat Wynn of Iowa City. She is also survived by granddaughters Erin (Andy) Baldwin of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Megan Tornholm of Omaha, Nebraska, niece Linda (Carl) Farrar and their family of Lawrence, Kansas as well as many cousins and friends

Paul Irvin Ross was born January 7, 1932 at Quitman, Missouri, to Oppie Ross and Lois F. (Nicolas) Ross. He grew up in the Braddyville, Iowa area attending country schools and graduating from Braddyville High School. He furthered his education at Northwest Missouri State College, Maryville, Missouri where he obtained his Bachelor and Master's Degrees in Accounting.

Paul returned to Braddyville High School for several years in the mid 1950s to teach and coach basketball. He was active in the National Guard during this time.

Paul met Barbara Beedle and the couple was married November 30, 1957 in Clarinda, Iowa.

Paul was an agent for the Internal Revenue Service for nearly thirty years. Paul and Barbara lived in several cities during this time. He retired in 1987 and they moved to St. Petersburg, Florida moving to Clarinda in the spring of 1995.

Paul was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Siam, Iowa. He enjoyed being on the farm and would return to Iowa to help his brother's plant their crops. Paul enjoyed his coffee groups and visiting with friends.

In addition to donating 57 acres to establish the Pheasants Forever Ross Brothers Wildlife Area, Paul and his brothers donated 76 acres to Page County for the establishment of Ross Park, a popular local fishing facility. Paul was an active supporter of Clarinda A's baseball, Iowa Western Community College, Northwest Missouri State University, several local fire departments and the Southwest Iowa Humane Society.

Preceding Paul in death were his parents; sister in infancy, Beualah and brothers, William (Bill) Ross and Byron (Bob) Ross.

Survivors include his wife Barbara Ross of Clarinda, Iowa; nephews, Gary Ross, Lanny Ross, Kelly Ross, Scott Ross and Mitchell Ross; their families;and many friends

Richard Kellogg Graham entered into rest Thursday, January 10, 2013 at his home in Clarinda, Iowa, at the exact hour and minute of the time four days earlier when his brother, Ralph L.R. Graham passed away. He was born November 12, 1935 in Clarinda, Iowa to Roy Oatey "Pickle" Graham and Hattie (Kellogg) Graham. He grew up in the Clarinda area and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1954. He was united in marriage August 24, 1956 to Marilynn Faye Dowell at the Presbyterian Church, Coin, Iowa. They were blessed with three children, Kathleen, Sandra and Dennis.

Richard was employed at Lisle Corporation for forty four years retiring in 1998. He worked in the factory and engineering department and most recently as plant manager.

Richard and Marilynn enjoyed their retirement years, traveling and being with their family. Richard was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mary Margaret (Rokey) Boltinghouse was born Wednesday, February 11, 1942, on a farm located southwest of Sabetha, Nemaha County, Kansas and was the fourth child of Mary Kathryn (Noble) Rokey and Andrew Peter Rokey. Knowing that the family moved into Sabetha when Mary was about three weeks old, they rented a house on Virginia Street that belonged to the Dribblebliss family. In 1944, they moved to a very large house in the north end of Sabetha. The rooms were very large and a coal furnace heated the house during the winter. Very early every morning, Andrew would build a roaring fire in the furnace to keep his family warm and would then leave to haul milk and cream from area producers. He had customers in the Sabetha area as well as in southeastern Nebraska.

In 1947, they made another move to a rented farm house on the L. O. Henry farm that was located one mile straight north of Sabetha on 6th Street. By this time, there were five Rokey children, Dick age 9; Larry age 8; Andrea age 7; Mary age 5; and Linda age 3. Their father was a farm boy who had been raised on the old Rokey farm northwest of Sabetha and he said, "Five kids don't have any business running the streets in town. They belong on the farm." And he was right; the boys were given the responsibility of feeding and watering the hogs in the mornings before walking to school. When they returned home in the late afternoons, they did the evening chores. The girls had morning chores too. One of the girls would stay in the house with their baby sister while the other one would go to the chicken house with their mother and help her feed and water the laying hens and the rooster. When they returned from school each day, gathering the eggs and dealing with the feisty rooster was their job. The last day of school during the summer afternoons, the Rokey kids were free to roam all over and explore the 160 acre farm on which they lived until it was time to do the evening chores.

In 1948, Mary was in the first grade when she joined her older siblings, Dick, Larry and Andrea, on the walk to Albany #1NB, the country school they attended. Classes for students in the first through the eighth grade were held on the ground floor of a two story limestone building that had been built in 1867 by settlers from Albany, New York who migrated in 1857, to the rural area just two miles north of Sabetha. The second story was a huge community center that measured the length and width of the building. There was a large stage on the east end of the center where the students performed in musical programs and plays for their families and friends. Monday through Friday, during the September to May school year, the Rokey kids walked one mile north of their hill top home to attend classes at the Albany District #1, Nemaha and Brown Counties School. They walked up and down the steep hills of 6th Street. They walked in the sunshine, in the rain, in the chill of the fall, and in the frigid temperatures and the deep snow of winter. Linda, the youngest Rokey child, joined her siblings on the school walk when she was a first grader in 1950. The weather could not stop the Rokey kids from walking North in the mornings to attend school and it could not stop them from walking south in the late afternoons to return to their home. Only an illness could stop the Rokey kids from doing their five-day-a-week school routine!

The Rokey family moved back into town in 1952, where Mary attended 5th grade classes at the Sabetha Elementary School. She continued to excel academically and became a member of the percussion section for the 5th through 8th grade Cardinal Marching and Concert Bands. To earn a little spending money, Mary began babysitting with a neighbor girl in the summer for 1953 for 50 cents an hour. When the word got around that another sitter was available, Mary began receiving calls from mothers who needed a babysitter either at night or during the day. Her father rewarded her for making good grades by giving her $1.00 for each 'A' grade she had on her report card. With that money, and the babysitting money, she was able to buy herself a few clothes. However, the majority of her earnings went into a savings account. She thought she was the richest girl in town! In the 8th grade, she switched from the drums to the brass section and became a trombonist for the high school Bluejay marching, concert and dance bands. The summer before her freshman year in high school, she was hired as a waitress at Buzz Café on Main Street for 50 cents an hour. She worked there until January of 1958.

When Mary was a senior, she was elected by the entire student body to represent Sabetha High School in the Queen Contest at a neighboring towns' very large and very well known "Halloween Parade". She was contestant number 13 during the judging. After competing against contestants from 11 area high schools, and one contestant from Highland Junior College, Mary was crowned Queen of the 1959 Hiawatha Halloween Frolic! She reigned over a celebration that brought an estimated additional 14,000 people into Hiawatha, Kansas! Mary graduated from Sabetha High School in May with the Class of 1960, in the top ten percent of her class. She loved going to school and she loved learning. Mary was an honor student throughout her 12 years of education. She was consistently listed on the Junior High and High School Honor Rolls. She was inducted into The Alpha Club as a sophomore and was inducted into the National Honor Society when she was a junior. Mary began taking the required training she needed to become a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell before her graduation day. She was employed by Southwestern at their Sabetha office from May 16 until October 1st of 1960.

On October 15, 1960, in a 7:00 PM ceremony, Mary and her high school sweetheart and hero, James Allen Boltinghouse of Lenox, Iowa were united in marriage at the Sabetha First Methodist Church with immediate family and a few close friends in attendance. The young couple moved to Creston, Iowa where Jim was employed at the Safeway Grocery Store. Then in February of 1961, they moved to Sabetha after Jim was offered the position of Produce Manager at the Safeway Grocery Store, where he had worked when he was a high school student. Mary was employed at the local hospital as a nurse's aid for several months. Then, for better wages, she changed jobs and drove 18 miles to the neighboring town of Seneca where she was employed as a grain clerk at the ASCS office.

Mary and Jim's first son, James Andrew Boltinghouse, was born Saturday, July 21, 1962, at St. Anthony's Murdoch Memorial Hospital in Sabetha. Jim's family roots were in the soil of southwest Iowa and he wanted to farm, so in February of 1964, the young couple and their 19 month old son, Jimmy, moved from Sabetha to a farm that was located 9.5 miles southwest of Lenox on the old D-Road, now known as J-20. The farm they moved to was called "the old Boltinghouse place" because it had been homesteaded in 1879 by Jim's great-grandparents, Lewis Caswell Boltinghouse and Sara Samantha (Freeman) Boltinghouse. Mary joined the Sunshine Sisters, an afternoon neighborhood club when she first moved to the farm and remained a member for many years because as she said, "I love my Sunshine Sisters."

A second son, David Lee Boltinghouse was born Thursday, July 16, 1964, at the old downtown hospital in Creston. The "old Boltinghouse place" was sold in 1966, and the Jim Boltinghouse family moved to another rented farm 5 miles south of Sharpsburg, Iowa. They bought their own farm located 5 miles northeast of Lenox in 1967. A daughter, Sue Ann Boltinghouse was born Saturday, June 1, 1968, at the new Greater Community Hospital in Creston.

Mary loved life on the farm. She worked in the fields, side-by-side with her husband, pulling the disc or the field cultivator behind the 4020 John Deere tractor. When Jim was in the fields planting crops, she did part of the evening chores by dumping a half dozen or more five gallon buckets of ear corn into long metal feeding troughs for the sows and boars. She and the children helped move the herd of stock cows and their calves from one pasture to another many times.

Her children meant more to her than life itself. They worked, played, laughed and learned together. She considered herself very lucky to be a 'stay-at-home-mom' who could watch her young children get on the school bus every morning around 7:15 AM and loved being at home to greet them when they got off the bus at 4:00 PM! She showed her family how important it was to her that they live in a clean home with plenty of good old home cooking on the kitchen table. She made sure there were always home baked cookies in the cookie jar. She also planted a large garden every spring and preserved the produce for her family. After Jim became an auctioneer in 1972, she and the children helped him with the consignment auctions that he held at various locations in Lenox.

Mary's health began to fail in 1976. The problems that had plagued her at different intervals since January of 1960, hit her hard once again. After going through a series of medical tests at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, she was diagnosed in August of 1976, with Multiple Sclerosis and an incurable eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa. Despite her health problems, Mary continued to attend the school activities her children participated in, whether it was athletic contests, dance recitals, vocal music programs, band concerts or school plays. To prove to herself that MS and RP did not have complete control over her life, Mary went to work at the Lenox Time Table in May of 1980. Her duties at the weekly newspaper included writing feature articles about local residents, reporting school sports, reporting local news, writing obituaries, answering the telephone, waiting on customers at the front counter, helping with the bookkeeping, and proofreading the entire newspaper before it was taken to the printer for publication. She also served as the interim editor for a number of months. Mary retired from the job she absolutely loved in April of 1985, exhausted but satisfied that MS and RP did not have complete control over her life. She began using a cane in 1982, to give herself more stability when she was walking.

Mary was a member of the Lenox United Methodist Church, where she took her children to Sunday school, Worship Services and Bible School. She taught Sunday school and Bible School classes for several years. She was also the editor of the church newsletter, "The Echo", for 5 years in the 1990's.

For relaxation, Mary always spent as much time as possible at her sewing machine making sun suits and shirts for her two young sons. In 1968, she began making garments for her little daughter and continued doing that as she grew. Once in a while, she even made garments for herself. She also made jackets for her growing sons and leather vests for her husband. She took great pride in her sewing projects. Mary then learned how to crochet and made many afghans for family and friends.

In 1998, she began falling and couldn't get up by herself. She was forced into using a wheelchair full time to protect herself from broken bones if she fell and to save her energy. In 1993, her husband bought her a used computer. She taught herself how to use it, partly by reading the manual, partly by asking questions of her oldest son and daughter and a friend who knew about computers. But mostly, she learned by using common sense and by not being afraid to click on a command for fear it might be the wrong command! She created her own greeting card templates, bought a paper cutter and started making greeting cards that she sold at a friend's beauty salon. She also made Christmas cards and typed Christmas letters for customers. She named her card business, 'Left Handed Creations.'

Mary always looked on the bright side of life. She met the challenges of poor health with a smile on her face and a strong determination to make the best of her situation. When asked by her family and friends how she could be so cheerful, she would reply, "I have always been a happy person and I plan to remain a happy person until the day I die." Ronald Dean Burns, 55, Sheridan, Missouri, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri.

Ron was born October 3, 1957, in Maryville, to Lowell Dean and Helen LaRue West Burns.

A 1976 graduate of Sheridan High School, he was a farmer in the Sheridan area and owner /operator of the Burns Service, Sheridan.

Preceding in death were his father Lowell Dean Burns in 1983, and grandparents Everett West, and Glen and Helen Burns.

Survivors include his mother LaRue Burns, Sheridan, brother Don (Paula) Burns, Charlotte, North Carolina, maternal grandmother Beulah West, Clearmont, Missouri and nephews Nick, Dylan, and Mitch Burns.

Martha Rowlene Dawson, 95 of Burlington Junction, Missouri died on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Parkdale Manor Care Center with her family at her side.

Martha was born February 22, 1917 in Quitman, Missouri the daughter of Ernest Fleet and Blanche (Job) Shelton.

Martha was a graduate of Quitman High School. She attended cosmetology school before working as a beautician prior to her marriage. Martha was a member of the Clearmont Christian Church and a member of the Rosanna Chapter Order of the Eastern Star.

Martha was united in marriage to Elmer Francis Dawson, July 15, 1941 in Maryville, Missouri. Elmer preceded her in death on August 8, 1991. Her son Francis Nelson Dawson also preceded her death. Others preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers Truman, Bill and Edward Shelton; and a twin sister Georgia Headrick.

Surviving are two sons, Larry (Janice) Dawson, Burlington Junction, MO., Kurby (Barb) Dawson, Kansas City MO., a daughter Sandra Kay (Phil) Little St. Joseph, MO., five grand children and twelve great grandchildren, two sister-in-laws Beverly Shelton, Independence, MO. and Charlene Green, Costa Mesa, CA., several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also, friend and caregiver Fern Yoder.

There will be a visitation at 10 am Wednesday at Price Funeral Home prior to the funeral service at 11am.

Franklin Leo Bohr, Jr., age 71, Graham, Missouri died Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his home in Graham.

Franklin was born July 7, 1941 in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Franklin Leo Sr. and Dorothy B. (Hawkins) Bohr Pierson.

He was a graduate of Easton High School, Easton, Missouri and a member of East Side Baptist Church, St. Joseph.

Franklin had started working for St. Joseph Light and Power as a lineman working up to and retiring as a supervisor.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and one grandson Matthew Bohr.

Survivors include his special friend Jenevieve Talbott, Graham; daughter Andrea D. (Judy) Bohr, Orlando, Florida; one son Dave (Susan) Bohr, Memphis, Tennessee; two grandchildren Jacob and Elizabeth Bohr, St. Joseph.

Sr. Mary Agneta Mohr, OSB, 85, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at our Lady of Rickenbach Infirmary, Clyde, Missouri.

Sr. Agneta was born February 12, 1927 in New Ulm, Minnesota, the daughter of Martin and Clara (Tauer) Mohr.

After joining the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in 1951 Sr. Mary Agneta made her First Profession on February 24, 1953 and her Final Profession on March 15, 1958. She was a registered nurse and had worked at various monasteries in Missouri Illinois, Arizona and California before returning to Clyde in 2007.

Sr. Agneta was preceded in death by her Parents; her Brothers: Landis and Marlow Mohr and a Brother-in-law: Harold Guggisberg.

Survivors include her Brothers: Dr Hilary (Elizabeth) Mohr; Allen (Judy) Mohr; Vernon Mohr and Clarence (Florence) Mohr; Sisters: Aurelia Guggisberg; Irene (Jim) Schwartz and Elizabeth (Jim) Larson; Nieces, Nephews and her Monastic Family of Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration.

Funeral services for Letha Wurster, age 102, of Lenox, who died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 (on her 102nd birthday!) at the Lenox Care Center will be held Friday, January 18, 2013 at 3:00 PM at the Lenox United Presbyterian Church. Letha Melva (Basler) Wurster, the daughter of Fred and Amelia (Wurster) Basler was born on a farm in the Lenox, Iowa area on January 16, 1911. The family moved to Kansas when Letha was six months old and returned to the rural Lenox area three years later. There were four children in the family, Paul, Letha, Freda and Robert. Letha attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Lenox Community High School with the Class of 1929. She attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa for two years and then returned to the Lenox area to teach at a country school. While attending college, Letha and her cousin Martha Haering would hitchhike back and forth between Indianola and Lenox on the weekends.

Letha's sister Freda introduced her to Walter G. Wurster in 1933, and they were married on May 26, 1934. They lived on a farm 2 ½ miles southeast of Lenox. To this union three children were born, Walter Gerald, James Merwin and Gloria Jean. Letha was a very hard worker. She always had a big garden, did a lot of canning of fruits and vegetables and for many years raised chickens. Her husband passed away in 1970. Letha believed in keeping busy, so in 1971, she went to work at the White Way Café for her cousin Georgia Eberle. She continued to work there until the restaurant closed. After the restaurant closed, Letha helped care for elderly ladies in the community. Letha was an excellent seamstress and made clothes for her children and grandchildren as well as herself. She did crocheting and in her later years, took up quilting. She made beautiful quilts and made sure each grandchild received one. Her quilts were a beautiful example of her creativity and diligence in being as productive as possible each day of her life. Letha enjoyed working outside in her yard and garden. She believed in eating healthy and exercising. She was an avid walker. When she lived in the small house on J13, and the weather was too bad to walk outside, she would walk round and round the circle of hallways in the house! When living at Vintage Park, all residents and employees were amazed at her diligence with her walking routine!

Letha moved to Vintage Park in 2005, and really enjoyed being there. Her health began to fail and she had more trouble walking. After falling a couple of times, it became necessary for her to move to the Lenox Care Center in May of 2011.

Letha was a long-time member of the United Presbyterian Church in Lenox. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Women's group until age and health issues limited her involvement. She was known to be a willing pie baker for any of their functions.

Left to cherish Letha's memory are her children, Walter G. (Gerry) Wurster and wife Joan of Lake Havasu, Arizona; James M. (Jim) Wurster and wife Judy; and Gloria J. Celebration of Life Services for Wayne E. Christensen, age 84, of Lenox, who died Sunday, January 13, 2013, at his home will be held Thursday, January 17, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lenox United Methodist Church. Open visitation will be at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Lenox on Wednesday from 12:00 noon until 7:00 PM. The family will greet friends from 5-7 PM at the Lenox American Legion. Wayne Eldon Christensen was born April 8, 1928, in Greenfield, Iowa the son of Emma and Clarence Christensen. He graduated from the Greenfield High School with the Class of 1946. Following graduation, Wayne, along with some buddies, enlisted in the United States Marines. In 1947 he was honorably discharged. Wayne then attended Buena Vista College where he played football. He then transferred to Drake University where he continued to play football. While attending Drake University, he met the love of his life on a blind date, Rose Marie Weppler. The couple was united in marriage on June 26, 1949, at the Fletcher Chapel Church in Cass County, Iowa.

In 1950, Wayne and Rose moved to a farm southeast of Lewis, Iowa. In 1957, they moved to Fontanelle on a farm north of town. In 1959, they moved to Greenfield where Wayne worked at a gas station. In December of 1962, they moved to Lenox where he was a feed salesman until he and Rose became the school custodians. They continued doing this until they purchased the sanitation business in May of 1974. In 1991, they sold the sanitation business to their son Tom. Wayne continued to drive the truck until 2004.

One of Wayne's passions in life was sports, especially football, wrestling and softball. Wayne was involved in starting the Lenox High School Softball Program. He also helped to develop the Lenox Little League Baseball Program. During this time, Wayne also played softball on the 'Town Team League', where he played the position of pitcher until he was over 50 years old! Wayne and Rose were inducted into the Hall of Fame at the John J. Harris Tournament in 1993.

Some of Wayne's hobbies were hunting, golfing and woodworking. All of his grandchildren are fortunate enough to have something he made for them. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lenox and volunteered with the Lenox Stock and Saddle Club. Wayne spent many hours watching the Dallas Cowboys and LA Dodgers play . . . and ALWAYS watched the Iowa Hawkeyes!

Wayne's greatest love was his family. Together he and Rose were blessed with 12 children, Gary Wayne, Lary Eugene, James Lester, Thomas Lee, Gail Edward, Teresa Marie, Lynn Alan, Daniel Ray, Lori Sue, DeeAnn, Christopher Todd and Craig Jon. Wayne loved life. He was a man of honesty, integrity and you always knew where you stood with him! Each of these traits are evident in his children.

Ruth Bernice Rodman was born in Veblen, South Dakota (Marshall County) on April 20, 1923; she was the daughter of Bert Isiah Rodman and Gertie Robbins. Ruth passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the Alegent Health Mercy Hospital at Corning, IA.

On June 4, 1941 she married Clifford Reldon Schaffer at Maryville, Missouri. The couple moved to a farm north of Carbon, IA where she lived the rest of her life. Ruth was a hard working farm wife helping Cliff with the livestock and always raised a big garden. To this union four children were born: Phyllis, Judy, Esther, and Dean.

Ruth's pride and joy was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved to raise a big garden so she could give everyone canned vegetables, and gave everyone several jars of homemade jelly she made with love. She enjoyed her flowers and could be found in her garden or flower beds. She also loved to crochet and did lots of embroidering of dish towels which she gave to everyone.

Mary Frances Drydale 87, of Bolckow, MO, passed from this life on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at her home in Bolckow with her family at her side.

Mary was born near Skidmore, MO, on June 4, 1925, to Fred and Edna (Smith) Stephens. She had lived all of her life in the area.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers, Ellis Stephens, Richard Stephens, and Frederick Stephens; and 2 sisters, Betty King, and Esther Pearson.

Mary retired from the Dietary Department at St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, MO, and previously had owned and operated the Cattleman’s Restaurant at the Maryville Sale barn, and others restaurants in the area.

Her memberships included the Bethany Christian Church, Barnard, MO, and she was active and helped out with other Women’s organizations of the church. She was a leader of local 4-H Clubs, and other area Women’s Social Clubs.

Left to mourn her passing is her husband, Wayne L. Drydale, of the home in Bolckow. They were married on December 14, 1946 in St. Joseph, MO.

Kathryn A. (Kathy) Piveral 64, of Maryville, MO, passed away Monday, January 7, 2013, at the Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, MO.

Kathy was born in Maryville, MO, on November 20, 1948, to Robert H. and Ruth M. (Heckman) Loch, they preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her husband Jim Piveral, and her sister, Linda Hoover.

Kathy was a graduate of North Nodaway High School, Hopkins, MO, in 1966, and later received her B.S. in Secondary Education from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. She was retired from St. Francis Hospital, also of Maryville.

On July 19, 1979, Kathy was united to James L. Piveral in Maryville, MO, he passed away on June 3, 2012.

She was a member of the Open Door Christian Center, Bolckow, MO.

David S. (Dave) Staples 67, of Maryville, MO, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Heartland Hospital in St. Joseph, MO.

Dave was born on July 22, 1945, in Maryville, MO, to Edwin E. and Dorothy M. (Walker) Staples. He was a lifelong resident of this area. His parents preceded him in death.

Dave was a 1963 graduate of the Maryville High School and had attended Northwest Missouri State University, also of Maryville. He was the store manager of the former Thomas Market until that store sold, and later retired as the Wonder Bread driver in the Maryville area for many years. He loved playing and later watching Softball, and once pitched a no-hitter. He enjoyed working on his Ford Model A.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and always had a smile on his face and a friendly hello for everyone.

On June 10, 1972, Dave was united in marriage to Rita G. Tunell at the First Christian Church in Maryville, MO, she survives of the home in Maryville.

Ruth Elaine (Friend) Barcus, 83, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Elmo, MO, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville.

Ruth was born on July 23, 1929, east of Braddyville, IA. Her parents were Elmer Cecil and Bonnie Bernice (Gray) Friend, they preceded her in death. She was also preceded by 2 sisters, Mary Belle Friend, Faye Ellen Friend, and an infant brother, Paul Friend.

On December 25, 1955, at the Clearmont Missouri Baptist Church, Ruth was united in marriage to Edward Rolland Barcus. They spent most of their married life in Nodaway County, Missouri, where she was a loving wife and mother.

Ruth was a member and attended the Clearmont Baptist Church, Clearmont, MO. She previously attended and helped with the Vacation Bible School at the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, MO. She also was involved with area 4-H Clubs while her children were involved in it.

Survivors include her husband, Edward R. Barcus, of the home in Maryville, MO; her 3 children, David E. (Jeanette) Barcus, Clearmont, MO, Gloria M. (Joe) Reidlinger, Maryville, MO, and Darla K. (Jeff) Smith, Coin, IA; 9 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren; 5 siblings, Delmer (Judy) Friend, Des Moines, IA, Neola Perry, Essex, IA, Lola Steeve, Hopkins, MO, Violet (Kenny) Williams, Clarinda, IA, and Bill Friend, Des Moines, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kathryn L. (Todd) Moses 80, of Maryville, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at her home in Maryville.

Kathryn was born on October 14, 1932, in Platte County, MO, and lived in that area until moving to Maryville in the fall of 1995. She was a 1950 graduate of the Platte City High School.

Her parents were Ned N. and Beulah H. (Kincaid) Todd and they preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her brother Joe Todd, and her sister Betty Brandt. Kathryn was baptized in the Platte City Christian Church, and later transferred her membership to Countryside Christian Church, Maryville, MO.

She retired as a clerk from the US Postal Service in Platte City, MO, after 24 years of service. On October 15, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Basehor, KS, Kathryn was united in marriage to Charles William Moses, they recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. He survives of the home in Maryville.

Besides her husband, Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Patricia A. (Richard) Kneale, Skidmore, MO; 2 grandchildren, Jason Kneale, Skidmore, MO, and Melissa (Anthony) Hanway, St. Joseph, MO; 1 great grandchild, Tucker Kneale; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Friday, January 18, 2013, at the Countryside Christian Church, Maryville, MO. The burial will be in the Maitland Cemetery, Maitland, MO

Jacob Michael Marriott, 26, of Maryville, MO, and formerly of Southwest Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2013, at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville.

Jacob was born in Clarinda, IA, on February 1, 1986. He was a 2004 graduate of the South Page High School, class of 2004.

Jacob worked as a Sales Representative for Overland Sales, and also worked the past 8 years at United Producers Livestock, both of Maryville. He enjoyed roping and wrangling and had competed for many years on Ranch Rodeo Teams. He was a former 4-H member, FFA member, and the Two County Duster Team. He was of the Lutheran Faith.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Marvin Lee Dunn and Sara Ann Carmichael; and his maternal uncle, Chuck Dunn.

Jacob is survived by his parents, father, Michael D. (Mike) Marriott, Braddyville, IA, and his mother, Dee Marriott, Maryville, MO. He also survived by his sister, Samantha J. Marriott, Maryville, MO, his niece, Emma Vicker, Maryville, MO; his paternal grandparents, Gary and Connie Marriott, Clarinda, IA; numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 21, 2013, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. The burial will be in the Shearer Cemetery, Braddyville, IA. Chaplain Josh Allee will be the minister for the service

Elbert Lee Reed, 80, Maryville, Missouri, died January 14, 2013, at St Francis Hospital in Maryville.

Elbert was born August 22, 1932 in Skidmore, Missouri, the son of the late Ernie E. and Mary G. (Wellington) Reed. He was united in marriage to Peggy Ann (Lawson) on May 9, 1953 in Skidmore.

He was a graduate of Skidmore High School and had worked at both the Uniroyal and New England Business System Factories. Later Elbert was a Caregiver for Association of Group Homes of Nodaway County.

A veteran, Elbert served as a Corporal in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954 in Korea.

He was a member of Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville.

Elbert was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Margaret Blessington (Dec. 20, 1987) and one sister Donna Davis.

Survivors include; his wife Peggy of the home, son Steve (Alicia) Reed, Maryville; daughter, Deanna (Paul) Overton, Ames, Iowa; two brothers, Ernest (Jeannie) Reed, Saint Joseph, Missouri and Gary (Emelie) Reed, Bolckow, Missouri; one sister Darlene (Fred) Burgess, Saint Joseph,

six grand children; Jacob, Ryan, Jordyn Overton, Rachel (Tyler) (Overton) Welch, Jennifer (Steve) Blessington Ball and Anthony (Lynn) Blessington; three great grand children; Joseph Ball, James and Ajazzi Blessington.

Visitation will be from 6-7 PM Thursday, January 17, at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Funeral Services will be held at 10 AM, Friday, January 18, at Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore

Doris B. King was born on February 28, 1928, the daughter of James Blair and Essie Myra (McCartney) Asbury.

On September 27, 1947 she married Ray “Ozzie” King, Jr. in Rock Port. The Kings made their home in Rock Port until moving to Westboro in 1951. They returned to Rock Port in 1986.

Doris worked as a cook at Tarkio College, the Hen House restaurant, and the Rock Port Nutrition Site. She and Ozzie also owned and operated a café in Westboro. She attended the Grace Church.

Doris passed away on Tuesday, Janurary 15, 2013 at her Rock Port home at the age of 84. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, James Asbury; and sisters, Wilma Marrs and Lola Davenport. 

Survivors include her son, Jim King of Westboro; daughters, Donna Baker and Karen Perry of Lincoln, Alabama; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren. 

Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Grace Church in Rock Port. Family will greet friends following the services, at the church. Inurnment will be held at Greenhill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Rock Port Nutrition Site

Jessie Lou Diggs, 89, Skidmore, Missouri died Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Golden Living Care, Maryville, Missouri.

Lou was born, August 10, 1923 in Skidmore, Missouri and was the daughter of Myron and Jessie Mildred Dawson Newton.

She attended Skidmore High School , was a cook at Nodaway Holt Schools for 20 years, owned and operated Lou's Diner for 21 years in Skidmore, and was a member of the Skidmore Christian Church.

On August 19, 1939, Lou married Fred Lester Diggs, in Wathena, Kansas who preceded her in death April 22, 1977.

Mrs. Diggs was preceded in death by daughter Anita Brown, sisters Judy Flynn, Leona Newton, Beth Bonner and Dixie Lea Collin, and brothers Homer, Fred, Zeke, Jerry, Myron, George, and Hooker Newton.

She is survived by a special son-in-law Don Brown, sons Gary Diggs, Walker, Missouri,Terry Diggs, Skidmore, Bradley Diggs, Chillicothe, MO, daughter Linda Fairchild, Chillicothe, sisters Mary Alice Johnson, Skidmore, Inez Boyer, St. Joseph, and 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

A graveside service and burial will be held 11 AM, Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Skidmore.

Jerome Michael "Jerry" Tobin, 72, Maryville, Missouri, died Friday, January 25, 2013, at St Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri.

Jerome was born Friday, January 03, 1941, in Maryville, Missouri to Thomas James and Edna Mae (O'Day) Tobin who preceded him in death.

A graduate of Horace Mann High School and a Veteran serving in the US Air Force, he was a truck driver.

Jerry was a member of the St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Maryville.

Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant daughter Andrea Tobin, brothers Phil and Kenny, and sisters Marcella Wiles and Thelma Moyer.

Survivors include include brother Larry and wife Alicia Tobin, Maryville and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Tuesday, January 29, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church with a visitation commencing at 9:30 AM prior to the mass.

Jerry' body will be cremated after the service and burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Maryville, Missouri. at a later date.

Memorials may be made to St. Gregory's School Fund in Jerry's name.

Russell was born April 5, 1944 to the late Everett V. Owens and Helen Geraldine Rowlett.

Russell graduated from Graham High School and served in the US Air Force. Russell spent his working career as a mechanic. He married Linda Hoague on February 5, 1979 in Oregon , MO.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister Paula Wilcoxson, an infant brother LaVerne Owens and a step-daughter Debbie Turner.

Russell is survived by his wife Linda of the home, 8 children, Joel (Vonda) Fredette, Virginia, Tina Fredette, Champlain, NY., Christopher Owens, Mound City, MO., Donald (Mary) Bohannon, Alburg, VT., Sharri (Bret) Wallace, Maryville, MO., Ray (Tobie) Bohannon, Barnard, MO., and Nathan Owens, Graham MO. Two brothers, Curtis Owens, Lake St. Louis, MO, Steven (Connie) Owens, Alba TX., and a sister Sherri (Lester) Barrett, Graham MO. Russell had 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Russell will be cremated. The family is hosting a memorial service at the New Community Building in Graham on Thursday January 31 at 11 am to celebrate and honor Russell’s life. There will be a luncheon after the service. The family has requested memorials to the American Cancer Society or SSM Hospice of St. Francis in lieu of flowers

Dr. Bruce R. Litte, PhD, 69, of Maryville, MO passed away, Sunday January 20, 2013, at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, MO.

Dr. Litte was born on January 6, 1944, in Melrose, MA. His parents were Rudolph and Irene Elsie (Sivachek) Litte and preceded him in death. Dr. Litte was a graduate of the Lincoln Sudberry Regional High School, class of 1961. He then received his Bachelors of Arts degree in English from Kalamazoo College, in Kalamazoo, MI, in 1965, and later received his Masters and PhD. in English from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS. Dr. Litte was a member and attended St. Gregory’s Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville, MO. Left to mourn his passing is his sister, Marcia Irene Litte, Coos Bay, OR; his friend, Kenton Wilcox, Maryville, MO; and many former students as well as children in spirit.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the St. Gregory’s Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville, MO. Cremation will take place after the services.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM, Friday, January 25, 2013, at the Church, and prayer service will be at recited at 7:00 PM.
