Edith Ann (Edie) Boyd Zaiss 67, of Pickering, MO, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012 at a St. Joseph Missouri hospital.
Edie was born on August 3, 1944, in Bigelow, MO, to Robert and Mary Francis (Dukes) Boyd. She had lived several years in Maryville, MO before moving to Tennessee, she returned to Maryville in 2001.
She had worked at the former Zipp’s Restaurant in Maryville, and had also worked many years for Casey’s General Stores. She had been a member of the Holt County Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bobby Lee Boyd; and her former husband, John P. Zaiss.
Survivors include her sister, Roberta L. Boyd of the home in Pickering, MO; her sister in law; 3 nieces, 2 great nieces and 4 great nephews and many friends and other relatives.
Edie’s body has been cremated and her memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City, MO.

Ronald William Gaugh 80, of Maryville, MO passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, April 25, 2012, at the Parkdale Manor Nursing Home, Maryville.
Ron was born in St. Joseph, MO on February 27, 1932 to William Russell and Audrey (Stiwalt) Gaugh. He was a Maryville High School graduate, and later graduated from the University of Kansas,School of Pharmacy in Lawrence, KS. He was the co-owner and operator of the former Gaugh Drug Store, and had co-owned the Hillside Pharmacy, both of Maryville.
Ron was united in marriage to Marilyn Louise Bennett on January 27, 1951 in Maryville, MO
Ron and Marilyn later moved to Richmond, MO and he was employed as a Pharmacist with WalMart, retiring in 1996. They then lived in St. Joseph for 8 years and returned to Maryville 2 years ago.
His memberships included the First United Methodist Church, and the Nodaway Masonic Lodge #470 AF & AM, both of Maryville. He was the past Worshipful Master and 50 year member of the lodge. Ron had his private pilots license, loved to fly, and co-owned a plane in Maryville for many years. He also loved to hunt.
Preceded him in death were his parents; and his brother, Norman Gaugh in 1999.
His survivors include his wife, Marilyn, of the home in Maryville; two children, daughter, Cindy and husband Ed Newbury, of Maryville; son Dr. Craig W. and wife Dr. Rhonda K. Gaugh, Mankato, MN; 5 grandchildren, Jenny Staples, Parnell, MO, Sara and husband Josh Emery, Maryville, MO, Hilary and husband Chad Hamilton, Lawrence, KS, Dr. Emily Gaugh, Houston, TX, and Evan Gaugh, Cotati, CA; 7 great grandchildren; 4 nephews; and his sister in law, Kathleen Gaugh, Maryville, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO, Pastor Scott Moon will be the officiant. The burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville. A Masonic service will be held immediately following the funeral service on Saturday.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to service at the funeral home on Saturday.

Robert M. Black, 92, Burlington Junction, Missouri, died Thursday, June 7, 2012, at Parkdale Manor Care Center, Maryville, Missouri.
Robert was born October 21, 1919, in Burlington Junction, Missouri to Coral E. and Orpha Alma Race Black.
He was a 1937 graduate of the Elmo High School, and a Texas College Technological College-Aviation Cadet.
He married Jane Rogers October 21, 1939, in Tarkio, Missouri.
He served as a S/Sgt in the United States 8th Air Force based in England and flew 27 missions over Germany and was a member of the 305th Bomb Group.
Robert was a US mail carrier for 30 years and farmed.
Robert was a member of the Rolla Dicks American Legion Post #315 for over 60 years, a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the United Methodist Church all of Burlington Junction, Missouri.
Preceding Robert in death were his parents and son Lauren Charles Black.
Survivors include his wife Jane Black of their home and daughter Leah Rae Miller, Maryville, MO.
A visitation will be held 6:00-7:30 PM Monday, June11, 2012, at the Burlington Junction United Methodist Church followed by a Masonic Service.

Fred R. Poppa, 67, Maryville, Missouri, passed away June 7, 2012 at Parkdale Manor Care Center after a short battle with cancer.
Fred was born on November 8, 1944 in Maryville to Mabel Carmichael & Harold H. Poppa, Sr., both deceased. Fred graduated from Maryville High School in 1962. He was married to Rita Wagner, Maryville on June 15, 1963.
Survivors include his wife, Rita of the home, two children; Tyler A. (Madonna), Forney, Texas and Lori A. Hibbs (Scott Myer) Maryville. Five grandchildren, Sandra Aleman, Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, Nevada, Lindsay and Matthew Poppa, Forney, Colton Hibbs, Sheridan, Missouri and Tabitha Hibbs, Maryville; one great-grandson, Iaden Aleman, Las Vegas. One granddaughter, Elizabeth Poppa preceded Fred in death.
Additional survivors are five brothers: Harold H., Jr., (Donna), Bertram, Texas, Larry (Jill), Bedford, Iowa, Terry (Sharon), Maryville, Jim (Marlene), St. Joseph, Missouri and Richard (Mary), Orlando, Florida; two sisters Mary (Jerry) Price, Maryville, and Anna (Jim) Jones, Graham, Missouri; Fred's dog, Bruce, along with numerous friends and relatives.
Fred retired from United Electric Cooperative in 2004. Fred's career started with the Cooperative as an Apprentice Lineman in Jan. 1968. He earned his Journeyman Lineman's certificate, transferred to Grant City in 1973 where he was the Area Serviceman for the Cooperative. In 1986, Fred was promoted to Operations Manager of the Maryville Nodaway-Worth Electric office where he worked until his retirement.
After retiring, Fred enjoyed driving the RV around the country. He was a licensed private pilot who loved to fly. Another life-long passion was driving racecars. Other hobbies included golfing, reading, rebuilding vintage Chevrolet pick-ups, Bearcat football, and spending time with his family and friends.
Fred was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Country Club, Elks Lodge #760, & the NWMSU Football Booster Club all of Maryville.
Memorial services will be held, Tuesday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Maryville. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 p.m., prior to the services. The body has been cremated. D’Ann Thompson, 51, of Maryville, Missouri passed away Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St Joseph, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her Dad, Jimmie Thompson, in 1994.
D’Ann is survived by her son, Jesse Thompson; grandchildren, Taten and Taylor Thompson; her Mother, Charlene Thompson; two brothers, Curt and Scott Thompson and her sister: Marlene Thompson.

Arthur VanFosson, 89, Maryville, Missouri, died Friday, June 1, 2012, at Golden Living Center, Maryville, Missouri.
Arthur was born August 10, 1922, in Braddyville, Iowa to James Virgil and Stella Vesta Wilson VanFosson.
A graduate of Elmo High School, class of 1942, he was a station attendant with the former McGinnis/Dew Service Station, Maryville.
He married Ruth Kent VanFosson on November 02, 1946, in Troy Kansas.
He served as a Private in the US Army during the World War II and was a member of the Bradley-Carver American Legion Post #492, Elmo, Missouri.
Preceding in death were his parents, a granddaughter Tara Dew and three brothers Raymond, Marvin, and Glen VanFosson.
Survivors include his wife Ruth Marie VanFosson, son Ronnie (Renea Smyser) VanFosson, Maryville and daughter Betty (Gary) Dew, Bellevue, NE, brothers Lowell VanFosson, Maryville, MO, Lewis VanFosson, Mitchellville, IA and sister Hazel Estes, Maryville, MO; two grandsons; Jeff (Kristen) and Chad (fiance' Sara Walkenbach) VanFosson, great granddaughers; Delaney and Janie VanFosson.

Mary Lavina Tompkins, 99, Maryville, Missouri, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Parkdale Manor Care Center, Maryville.
Mary was born September 7, 1912, at Barnard, Missouri, to Benjamin F. and Etta Belle Bare Tompkins.
A graduate of Barnard High School, she was a Tax Collector for White Cloud Township, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #102, was a member of the Church of Christ, and was a member of the Garden Club and the Historical Society, Barnard, Missouri.
Preceding in death were her parents, brothers Glenn (Lillie)Tompkins, Bill (Florine)Tompkins, John (Mary)Tompkins, Orville (Ethyl)Tompkins, Everet (Lucille) Tompkins, Raymond (Joan)Tompkins, and Benjamin Tompkins, and sistersThelma (Harold) Dougan, Lula (Lloyd) Dougan and Maxine (Charles) Sexson.

Gerald H. Scott, 83, beloved Father, Son, Brother and Friend passed on May 20, 2012, at St. Luke’s Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, TX. He was born in Maryville, MO October 7, 1928 to Charles Dewey (Dude) Scott and Alice Harkness Scott, the oldest of three sons. He was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers, William Scott of Independence, MO and Carroll Eugene (Gene) Scott of Council Bluffs, IA, and stepson Larry D. Killebrew of Council Bluffs, IA.. Gerald was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he served in the infantry. Upon discharge from the army, he began a career with the Standard Oil Company at their pipeline storage station in Council Bluffs, IA. He was joined in marriage to Sherly Killebrew in 1959. In 1965 a daughter, Lori J. Scott, was born to that union. Gerald left Standard Oil after working there for 20 years to become a service station operator for a time in Council Bluffs, IA. After relocating to Maryville, MO in 1973, Gerald worked for the Laclede Chain Company for a short time, followed by Northwest Missouri State University, and ultimately NEBS Printing Company until his retirement in 1990.He was a member of several fraternal organizations including the Elks and the Eagles and was very active in American Legion Post number 100 in Maryville, MO.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Sherly Scott of Alton, TX, daughter, Lori J. Scott and her friend Victor Berrones of San Antonio, TX, step-daughter Linda Killebrew and her spouse Steve Straub of McAllen TX, grandsons Kevin Herzog of Nebraska City, NE, Robert Herzog of Longwood, FL, and Anthony Straub of McAllen, TX, granddaughters Sherry Mandl and her friend Richard Lamitie of Eustis, FL, Danielle Straub of Alton, TX, and Alisha Straub of McAllen, TX, great-grandsons Parker and Lanny Herzog of Nebraska City, NE, great-granddaughters Megan and Samantha Herzog of Longwood, FL, Lillian and Khloe Herzog of Nebraska City, NE, Kristen Kennedy of Orlando, FL, and Jennifer Mandl of Eustis, FL and one great-great grandson, Damien Santo-Romero of Orlando, FL, three nephews, three nieces, and a multitude of friends.

Billy Dave (B.D.) Scott, PhD. (1931 - 2012)
B. D. Scott, Emeritus Professor of Biology, Northwest Missouri State University, a resident of Maryville since 1960, died May 11, 2012, age 80. He was born May 19, 1931 in Floydada, Floyd County, Texas, the son of James Zant and Ruth Lorena (Johnston) Scott. On August 31, 1951 he married Janet Evelyn Weir and to them were born three children: David Carlton (Susan) Scott, Kansas City; Karen Elizabeth (Brock) Pfost, Maryville; and Camellia Diane (Rob) Barmann, Platte City.
His Bachelor of Science in Biology was earned from Texas Tech University. He was a member of the Texas Tech Men’s Glee Club. He was accepted into the graduate program at Corvallis, Oregon. Instead of enrolling at that time, he served in the Army from 1952-54 during the Korean War. His service was spent in the Military Police training cadre at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. After the service, he returned to Texas Tech where he earned his Master of Science in Botany, just as his first child, David, arrived. Daughter Karen was born four years later in Lincoln, NE, as he was working toward his PhD at the University of Nebraska. The PhD was conferred on him at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, soon after the birth of his third child, Camellia.
He accepted a position in 1960 at Northwest Missouri State College (now University). During his tenure in the Biology Department, he received several National Science Foundation Awards, served on numerous academic committees, was an advisor to Tau Kappa Eplison fraternity, a pre-nursing advisor, and also sponsor of the Pre-Med Club. He founded the Junior High Science Olympiad contests held on the Northwest campus. For ten weeks during the summer of 1969 he was a "Visiting Professor" at the University of Illinois, Champain-Urbana, and was 1 of 30 participants in a 1972 National Science Foundation Summer Institute at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. Bill was awarded a six-month sabbatical leave in 1983 to visit gardens in the South-Eastern United States. After a teaching career spanning more than 40 years, advancing from undergraduate assistantships to university professor, Bill retired from Northwest in May of 1991.
In the Maryville community, he was a member, secretary-treasurer, and vice-president of the Maryville Host Lions Club; charter member and second president of Nodaway County Genealogy Society; and served as chairman of the credit committee of Northwest Missouri Regional Credit Union. Genealogy was a passion of Bill and Janet’s, and for more than 20 years they traveled the United States, self-publishing six family histories. He was a creative person, a designer, innovator, and gardener.
B.D. is survived by his wife, his three children and his eight grandchildren: Gretchen Scott (and fiancé Reed Phillips), Emily Scott, Lizz and Jessica Pfost, and Eric, Jason, Matthew, and Janessa Barmann.

Phillip Dysart Townsend, 59, Maryville, Missouri died Friday, May 11, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.
Phil was born February 7, 1953, Maryville, Missouri, and was the son of the late Robert and Ruth (Dysart) Townsend. He married JoAnn Seipel at Mt. Alverno Chapel, Maryville July 20, 1974, who survives of the home.
He was a 1971 graduate of King City High School and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1975 with a Bachelors degree in Ag-Business and was a farmer.
Phil was an active participant in the Northwest Missouri Tractor Pulling Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob Townsend, and sister Sharon Townsend.
Surviving are son, Chad (Cadence) Townsend, Maryville, MO, daughter, Mindy (Josh), Overland Park, KS, grand daughter Kelby Townsend; brothers Gary (Pam) Townsend and Eddie Townsend of Rea, MO; sisters, Marilyn (Spencer) Brown, Donna (Warren) Townsend , Patty Monical and Cheryl (Mike) Stackpole, all of St. Joseph.

Kathleen F. Whitney, 89 , formerly of Maryville, Missouri died on Monday, May 7, 2012, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Missouri.
Born December 7, 1922 in Akron, Ohio, Kathleen was the daughter of the late James and Helen Barton Friddle.
She married Gilbert Austin Whitney September 5, 1946 in Leominister, MA, who preceded her in death January 1, 1999.
A graduate of Mountainburg High School, she received her masters degree in guidance and counseling from the University of Missouri and was employed by Nodaway Holt School District, where she retired.
She was a Veteran of World War II, serving her country in the US Naval Coast Guard.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, PEO Chapter HT and several bridge clubs in Maryville.
Surviving are sons, Michael (Linda) Whitney DeSoto, KS, and Dana (Catherine) Whitney, Houston, TX, brother, Jerry Friddle, Van Buren, AR., niece Donna Davis, Holton, WI.,and three grandchildren: Benjamin Whitney, Andrew Whitney, and Melissa Whitney.

Charles Edwin (Eddie) Hilsabeck, 74, Barnard, Missouri died Sunday May 6, 2012 at his home in Barnard, Missouri.
Eddie was born June 18, 1937 in Barnard, Missouri, the son of the late Ivan Warner and Jessie L Wohlford Hilsabeck.
He was a graduate of South Nodaway High School, Barnard, Missouri, class of 1955.
Eddie was united in marriage to Rita Jeanine Mann on October 21, 1961 in Gower, Missouri. She preceded him in death on May 16, 2005.
Eddie was a retired truck driver having driven for Crouch Brothers and Ryder-PIE Freight Lines. He was a member of the Teamsters Labor Union. Eddie had also served in the Missouri National Guard.
Eddie was a born again believer and follower of Jesus Christ.
Eddie was an avid hunter and fisherman who truly loved the outdoors. He also loved spending time with all his grandchildren and attending all their activities.
Others preceding him in death were son-in-law Kevin Bauman; two brothers Ivelle and Courtney Hilsabeck; sister-in-law Susie Hilsabeck and a nephew Roger Hilsabeck.

Mary Emily Birkenholz, 96, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at her home in Melvern, Kansas.
Mary was born March 27, 1916, in Pickering, Missouri to Lee and Angie Pugsley Sharr.
A homemaker, she married Julius Birkenholz on Friday, March 26, 1954, in Bedford, Iowa.
Mary was a member of the Melvern Church of God.
Preceding in death were her husband (Dec. 16, 1986), parents, and son Larry Stoner (Oct. 12, 1990).
Survivors include children; son Gabrial Stoner, Topeka, KS, daughter Judy (Gary) Bailey, Moberly, MO, and Tom Birkenholz, Mansfield, Connecticut; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Charles Luther Baird, 90, Maryville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Golden Living Center, Maryville.
Charlie was born on June 8, 1921, in Lemar, Missouri, to Clyde and Maude Baird. He graduated from Leavenworth (Kansas) High School and entered the Army Air Corps after high school, serving in Europe in World War II. Charlie moved to Maryville in 1945 where he and his father were owner-operators of Baird Milling Company. Charlie also served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
Charlie married Betty Jeanne Tilson on September 6, 1947 in Maryville. He continued to operate Baird Milling Company until 1971, when he became an integral force in the establishment and construction of the Maryville Housing Authority, serving as its first Executive Director until his retirement.
Following retirement, he and Betty moved to Rock Port, Missouri. Always active in the community, Charlie served on the Maryville City Council, and following his retirement served on boards in both Rock Port, and in Savannah, where he later resided. Charlie was an avid reader, enjoyed visiting with people, hunting and fishing, photography and raising registered beagles.
In 2008, Charlie returned to Maryville, where he resided until his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife. Betty, and his great-grandchild, Nevaeh Auxahanna Miller Moore. Charlie was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Elks Club and First Christian Church.
Survivors include David Baird and wife, Carol, Maryville; Jim Baird, Kansas City; Mary Jane Miller, Graham; and Betsy A. Baird, Kansas City North, as well as six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Susan Melvina Kerns, 87, Maryville, formerly of Elmo Missouri, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville, Missouri.
Born November 9, 1924 in Blanchard, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Bessie Johnson Kerns.
Susan was a member of the Elmo Christian Church.
Preceding Susan in death were her parents, brothers Wilbur, Theodore, Kenneth, Woodrow "Woody", Sanford , William "Bill" , Robert "Bob", and Guy Kerns, and sisters, Virginia Vore, Orlee Allen, and Lucille Brownfield.
Surviving are brother Albert Kerns Buffalo, MO, and sisters, Ella Mae Shipley, Bessie Hainline and Helen Whitaker, all of Elmo.
Funeral service will be 2:30 Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Elmo Christian Church, Elmo, Mo.

Mary Margaret Elaine Rosenbohm Crain, age 98, Graham, Missouri passed away April 24, 2012 at Tiffany Care Center, Mound City, Missouri.
She was born February 3, 1914 to Fred and Myrtle J. (Fuller) Lyle at Barnard, Missouri.
Mary Margaret was a graduate of Graham High School and attended Northwest Missouri State Teachers College receiving a degree in Elementary Education. She taught at McCann and Miller rural schools. Mary was a member of the Graham United Methodist Church, Graham Progressive Club and Chapter AL PEO of Maitland, Missouri.
On June 13, 1936 she married George F. Rosenbohm. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1978. On October 18, 1986 she married Glenn O. Crain. He passed away March 11, 2000.
Others preceding her in death were her parents, brother Richard Lyle, twin great granddaughters Macala Jo and Marcie Diane Rosenbohm and sister-in-law Jean Lyle.
Survivors, son Larry (Janet) Rosebohm, Graham, three grandchildren, Kevin (Michele); Michael (Marsha); Danny (Kathy); all of Graham; five great grandchildren, Matthew (Kylie); Nicholas, Marc, Megan and Cory Rosebohm; stepdaughter Jean Hunt, Fairfield, IA; two step grandchildren and two step great granchildren; one brother John Lyle, San Antonio, TX, nieces Ruth Jean (Dick) Warner and Linda Bjorklun; nephews, Richard (Sue) Groves; Stephen Rosenbohm, Chris (Helen) Lyle and Jerry Lyle.
Funeral services will be held at the Graham United Methodist Church, 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 26, with Reverend Connie Ury officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2 PM. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham, MO.

MARY BELLE HARMON MILLER born January 13, 1920, died April 22, 2012.
Mary Belle Harmon Miller and Leon F. Miller were married for 65 years. Having met at the library while in college at STC (now Missouri State University), they were married May 5, 1946 after Leon returned from army service in World War II. Leon Miller died on May 28, 2011. So close was their bond that the following day Mary Belle suffered a disabling stroke, from which she did not recover. Mary Belle Miller died on April 22, 2012.
As newlyweds, the Millers lived in Chicago, while Leon earned his MA and PhD from the University of Chicago. In 1950 they moved to Maryville, Missouri when Leon accepted a job as a professor and head of the Division of Education at Northwest Missouri State College. He would later serve as Dean of Instruction and Graduate Dean.
Daughters Carol and Gayle became the focal point of Mary Belle’s nurturing. Mary Belle dedicated countless hours throughout her life helping her daughters and husband in tasks and proofreading that made their careers and projects more achievable. The Millers were very proud of their daughters and their daughters were very proud of their parents. Daughter, Gayle Miller Bilden (a chemist) died in a car accident on ice in 1979 at age 23. Surviving her parents is their older daughter, Carol J. Miller (a business law Distinguished Professor at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO since 1984). Son-in-law Bill Cobb predeceased Mary Belle. She is survived by son-in-law Dean Bilden, as well as cousins and nieces, and their families.
Mary Belle Harmon Miller was born near Sheldon, Missouri, on January 13, 1920, the daughter of Rupert Franklin Harmon and Mary Anne Fugate Harmon, who preceded her in death. Mary Belle grew up in small towns in SW Missouri where her parents were teachers. Several summers were spent on farms or in Springfield, Mo or Columbia, while her parents worked on their college degrees. Mary Belle graduated from Walnut Grove (Mo) High School in 1936 (where she played on the girls basketball team) and graduated with highest honors in 1940 from Southwest Missouri State Teachers College (STC) (now Missouri State University), where she majored in commerce (business education) and music. She was honored to be the woman speaker at the college Senior’s Honor Assembly in 1940. Mary Belle was student "Y" President, Pi Omega Pi Treasurer and was a member of the Bruin Boosters pep club, Glee Club and Mixed Chorus in addition to participating in college plays. Mary Belle taught for five years and took graduate classes one summer at the University of Minnesota and at the University of Chicago. She taught business and music classes at Nixa, Mo, and Willard, Mo before joining her parents at Rice-Patterson Air Force Base, where she taught typing and secretarial skills to service men in World War II.
For over sixty years, Mary Belle was active in the Maryville, Missouri community. She was faithfully involved in the First Christian Church (as a board member, member of the serving deaconate, CWF president, and Sunday School member). In American Legion Auxiliary, she served at the 4th District President and Maryville President twice. She was the chairperson of the local Girls State selection committee for 23 years and volunteered at the state Girls State camp for 12 years. When the girls were young, she was a Girls Scout leader. Mary Belle participated in the Red Cross singers, served as a hospital surgery waiting room volunteer, and delivered Meals on Wheels for 17 years. She was active in the NWMSU Faculty Dames and AAUW. Mary Belle was a founding member of a faculty wives bridge group (founded in 1952), which is still active and whose members are honorary pall bearers. Mary Belle and Leon also played duplicate bridge in a bridge group for four decades. She attended many University, Legion and Lions activities with Leon and was a loyal Bearcat sports fan.
Mary Belle Miller greatly enjoyed engaging in conversation with friends and relatives and keeping current on new issues, often saving clippings. On various trips, she was eager to research family history genealogy. She had great attention to and recollection of details. Mary Belle had a great concern for the well-being of family members and friends, and she will be greatly missed.
Her service will be held at First Christian Church, Maryville, Missouri on Friday, April 27, 2012 at 10:30 am, with burial to follow in Nodaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Maryville. Visitation will be held Thursday night (April 26) from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Price Funeral Home.

Terry Roger McIntosh, 67, Hopkins, Missouri died on Saturday, April 14, 2012, at his home in rural Hopkins.
Born November 18, 1944 in Quitman, Missouri, he was the son of the late Howard and Dorotha McIntosh.
He graduated from Maryville High School in 1962 and continued his education at Northwest Missouri State College where he obtained a bachelor degree in biology and English in 1967.
Terry joined the United States Navy in 1967 where he served three years.
He worked in heavy construction while living in Nashville, TN before returning to the Hopkins area and retiring from Laclede Chain.
As a true outdoorsman, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. Terry's idea of a good time consisted of Coors Light and nature. Anytime he could be outdoors was a happy time. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends whether it was playing the guitar in his younger years or later in life sharing his words of wisdom and stories of his incredible experiences.
Terry was preceded in death was his mother Dorotha McIntosh and grandparents Fred and Millie Miller.
Left to cherish his memory is a vast array of friends and family.
Memorial Graveside services and inurnment will be held on Saturday, May 5, at 2:30 PM at the Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, MO. Missouri Military Honors will be under the direction of the James Edward Gray Post 100 Maryville.

020Mrs. Lois Charline Desch, age 83 of 1608 North 16th Street in Clarinda, Iowa passed away Monday June 11, 2012 at Houston Hospice in Houston, Texas.
Lois “Charline” Giles, the daughter of the late Grover C. Giles and Averill Ellen Webb, was born on May 8, 1929 in Mt. Moriah, Missouri. Charline attended high school in Bethany, Missouri. She later met and married John E. (“Ed”) Desch in 1949. She was a homemaker, devoted mother and loving wife. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John E. (“Ed”) Desch, brothers Joseph Giles and Russell Giles, and sister Faye Pool.
She is survived by a son, John Desch and his wife Sandra of Rock Hill, South Carolina; daughter Kathy George of Spring, Texas; daughter Karen McMillin and her husband Terry of Sugar Land, Texas; her sister Janell Carmichael and her husband Carl of Shawano, Wisconsin. Charline was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Charline Desch will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday June 16, 2012 at St. Clare Catholic Church in Clarinda, Iowa with Father Joy officiating. Interment will be at Clarinda Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or Iowa Hospice. Visitation with the family present will be 5-6:30 pm Friday at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel with a Rosary at 6:30 pm.

022Mary Lou Lee, daughter of Lawrence Dale and Tessi Belle (Howell) Adams, was born on July 17, 1931 in Gravity, Iowa. Mary Lou entered eternal rest on Friday, July 6, 2012 at the Bedford Nursing and Rehab Center in Bedford, Iowa at the age of eighty years and eleven months.
Mary Lou was united in marriage to Jim Lee on February 26, 1949 and to this union five children were born: Mick, Sherry, Kathy, Randy and Teresa. The couple later divorced.
Mary Lou was a homemaker until 1972 she then worked as a waitress at the Corner Café & Coffee Shop. Later, Mary Lou worked in housekeeping at the Rosary Hospital in Corning until retiring in 1988 for health reasons.
Mary Lou loved life and enjoyed a variety of things. She loved going to the casino and playing cards. She was an avid fan of puzzle books and liked putting puzzles together. She enjoyed hand held video games and cherished time with her grandchildren. She loved the St. Louis Cardinals, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and Tiger Woods. Mary Lou was known for her pie making skills and was known to have the best around.

Norman DeForrest Wynn was born May 20, 1929, the son of Forrest and Helen (Long) Wynn on a farm near Hepburn, Iowa. He began his education at Siam's country school, graduated from Clarinda High School in 1947, and continued his education at the Clarinda Junior College. Growing up he was active in church events, 4-H, FFA and DeMolay, where he served as the new chapter's first Master Counselor and later as a state officer. Norman married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Hughes, June 11, 1950, and they recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. From this union were born three daughters, Cynthia Rae, Debra Janine and Patricia Anne.
Norman spent his life involved in agriculture. In 1951, he and Wanda moved to a farm south of Hawleyville where they resided until 1971, when they moved into Clarinda. Norman was known for his progressive thinking and was honored as Jaycee's Outstanding Young Farmer in 1964. In the early 60's he began experimenting with techniques to increase his crop production. As neighbors noted the improvements in his crops, they hired him to do the same for theirs. This was the start of their agricultural business, which eventually included fertilizer and chemicals, feed, seed, farm equipment and grain elevators. Norman deeply loved his family and thoroughly enjoyed time he spent with family members both involved in the business and at home. Through the business, Norman and Wanda were fortunate to travel in the U.S. and several foreign countries. They enjoyed traveling, but still loved being at home with family most of all.
A lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church, Norman was involved on the Administrative Board, Trustees and new building projects as well as a charter member of the Together Sunday School Class. Norman was a 50 year member of Nodaway Masonic Lodge where he served as Worshipful Master. He was also a 35 year member of the Moila Shrine of St. Joseph. Norman was proud of Clarinda and was able to contribute to many worthy causes in the community including the gift of family land for the new water plant.
After retirement, Norman and Wanda spent many happy years in the Yuma, Ariz. area. They enjoyed hosting their family for yearly winter visits as well as friends visiting from home.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Helen Wynn and his eldest daughter Cindy. Survivors include his wife Wanda and daughters Deb (Phil) Tornholm of Clarinda and Pat Wynn of Iowa City. He is also survived by granddaughters Erin (Andy) Baldwin of Waukee, Iowa, and Megan Tornholm of Omaha, Neb., niece Linda (Carl) Farrar of Lawrence, Kan., as well as many friends.

024Navella Kenagy, age 65, died Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Riverside Manor in Ames, Iowa. Burial at Summit Cemetery near Yorktown, Iowa will be at a later date.
Navella Ann Kenagy was born February 19, 1947 in Clarinda, Iowa to John Wesley and Lena Navella Kenagy. Navella grew up on the family farm in Page County along with older siblings, Janet and John Jr and a younger sister, Margaret. After graduation from South Page High School in 1965 Navella was employed as a secretary in Ruminant Nutrition, Animal Science Department at Iowa State University in Ames.
Navella played the clarinet in the high school band, took piano and and organ lessons and played for church services. She cooked wonderful fried chicken and her chocolate chip cookies were great! Navella was very independent and always thinking of others and taking action to meet their needs. She had an infectious laugh, was talented at writing poetry, was known for taking bakery items, often caramel pecan rolls, as treats for her family when she visited them in SW Iowa and would fly to Oklahoma to spend time with her nieces as they were growing up.
Navella bravely lived with the disease of Multiple Sclerosis, which in her case eventually became the reason for her disability retirement from the University in 1995.
She is survived by her siblings, Janet and Marv Bakker of Ames, IA; John and Marion Kenagy of Clarinda, IA; Margaret and Marv Craft of Scottsdale, AZ; her nieces and families, Anne, Doug, Grace and Aaron Standerwick of Juneau, AK ; Lisa, Kevin, Mason and Carter Coleman of St. Louis, MO as well as an aunt, Catheryn Kenagy of Jenkintown, PA, many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lena Kenagy.

Harry Andrew Dideriksen was born July 25, 1918, in Neola, Iowa to Nels Dideriksen and Christina (Hellstrum) Dideriksen. He was one of eight children. He was raised on a farm and assisted his father with the farming operation. Harry honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II from February 10, 1941 to September 3, 1945. He was captured at Fade Pass, North Africa and spent twenty six months and ten days as prisoner of war of the Germans. On April 4, 1950, he was united in marriage to Juanita Snyder at Clarinda, Iowa.
Harry was a life long farmer and enjoyed being a farmer. He farmed in the Shenandoah and Clarinda area. Harry had an extensive collection of toy John Deere tractors. He was a member of the American Legion. Harry enjoyed visiting with his family and friends.
Preceding Harry in death were his parents; wife, Juanita (11/10/1999); siblings, Julius, June, Chris, Robert, James, Raymond and Clara.
Left to cherish his memory are his sisters-in-law, Ruth Dideriksen of Gravity, Iowa, Eleanore Liljedahl and husband Chuck of Shenandoah, Iowa; friend of the family, Mary Etta Otte of Clarinda, Iowa; nieces; nephews and many friends.

026Korbyn Christopher Wiederholt, stillborn infant son of Amber Wiederholt, was born June 27, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Missouri.
Korbyn was preceded in death by his maternal great grandfather, Edwin Miller.
He is survived by his mother, Amber and sister Brooklyn Farnan of the home; grandparents, Karen Wiederholt, Bedford, Iowa and Chris Wiederholt, Maryville; maternal great grandmother, Esther Miller, Bedford and step-great grandmother Marlene Miller; paternal great grand parents, Marvin (Carmelita) Wiederholt, Ravenwood, Missouri; aunt Rachael Wiederholt, Maryville; many great aunts and uncles, friends and loved ones.
Funeral mass was held at b10 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Maryville. The family recieved friends one hour prior to the service from 9-10 a.m. at the church. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Marryville.

027W. Marie Sleep was born December 25, 1920 in Carl, Iowa to Thomas and Grace (Lawrence) Preston. She went to school at country school and graduated high school in Corning, Iowa in 1939.
In 1941 she met her soon to be soul-mate, Ralph Sleep. They were married July 8, 1942 in Lubbock, Texas where he was in WWII. To this union, two daughters were born, Janice Marie and Shirley Ann. They spend most of their lives farming and raising Hereford cattle. Marie always had a huge garden and chicken to dress for the winter meals.
Marie was a homemaker until 1968 when she worked at O'Bryan Bros and then Bedford Nursing Home where she received her CNA license. She also worked as a dish aide until retiring in 1985. Marie was a life time American Legion Auxiliary Member in Bedford, Iowa. The couple moved to Bedford in 1976 after Ralph started to get ill.
Marie was a very kind and caring wife, mother, grandma and great grandma, also becoming a great-great grandma in 2010.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, her sister Ruth Rex, and by brothers Russell Preston, Robert Preston and Glen Preston, also a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Wilma Annan was born April 27, 1934, in Clarinda, Iowa to Harvey Semmons and Sadie Viola (Miller) Semmons. Wilma grew up in the Clarinda area attending country schools, later attending Clarinda Schools and nursing school. She was united in marriage on August 5, 1954, in Kansas City, Kansas to Vernon "Ross" Annan. The couple lived in Kansas City for two years moving back to Shenandoah, Iowa until 1961, returning to Kansas City where they have continued to reside.
Wilma enjoyed being active with her children's activities. She was involved with her daughter's in Girl Scouts and a Den Mother for her son's Cub Scout troop. She loved to bowl and roller skate. Wilma enjoyed cooking, especially enjoyed baking and making candy for friends and family. Wilma was active in the church circles of the First Baptist Church of Shenandoah and the Lutheran Church of Kansas City.
Preceding Wilma in death were her parents; infant daughter, Linda Louise; sisters, Lillian and Rose.

He was born April 4, 1926 in Wolcottville, Indiana, the son of Dr. John Rarick and Wilma (McDonald) Rarick. He graduated from Howe Military Academy in 1944 and then served in the Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II from 1944 to 1946.
He graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, in 1951 with degrees in botany and bacteriology and began his career as a micro-bacteriologist for the Kingan & Company of Indianapolis. Maurice and his family moved to Clarinda in 1968, where he was plant manager for the Hygrade Company. He later worked in the countries of Haiti and Romania, as well as in Humboldt, Sioux City and Des Moines, Iowa, consulting for various meat and food companies.
Maurice was a member of American Legion Post 98, the Glenn Miller Post (9230) of the VFW, the Masonic Lodge and the First United Methodist Church of Clarinda. He taught hunter safety courses for many years in Clarinda, was an avid Ham Radio operator (KBONWA) and also enjoyed fixing antique clocks. Most recently he worked at Napa Auto Parts, delivering parts and chatting with customers.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Roberta; and four sons: Steve (Diane) of Grayslake, Ill.; David (Melissa) of Ankeny; Brian (Beth) of Clarinda; and Jeff (Julie) of Marshalltown; nine grandchildren: Jonathan, Nathan, Katharine, Taylor, Jaci, Sydney, Sam and Brandon (Abby) Rarick, Brandi (Randy) Kutzner and one great-grandchild, Gracie Kutzner. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Rosalyn, and infant brother Carlos.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, Clarinda with Rev. Andrew Rubenking officiating. Visitation with the family was held 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 26 at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda. Private burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Sergy Post 98. Lowell Wendell Pullen was born December 2, 1921, near Clarinda, to Allie Pullen and Fern (Royer) Pullen. He grew up in the Clarinda area attending Shambaugh schools. Lowell served his country honorably in the United States Navy serving during World War II in the South Pacific on the Bristol. He was serving offshore Japan at the time of the nuclear attack. Lowell and Gloria Rector were united in marriage on October 17, 1944 at Troy, Kansas. They were blessed with four children, Gary, Randy, Kim and Gina.
Lowell lived most of his life in the Clarinda area with the exception of seven years in Omaha and one year in Fontana, California. He was an excellent carpenter and was maintenance foreman for Lisle Corporation for twenty five years. Following retirement he worked as a funeral assistant for Walker-Merrick, Wolfe and Barr-Merrick Funeral Homes and most recently for Ritchie Funeral Home in Clarinda for twenty six years, retiring again at the age of 90. Lowell was a hard worker and trusted employee also known by "Termite" and "Pulley".
Lowell was very proud of his family and enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A highlight for Lowell was a trip with his sons to Washington D.C. to view the World War II Monument. He was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Lowell was an active member of the Church of God, Shambaugh and most recently attended the Hillside Missionary Church.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Allie and Fern and sister, Juanita Crabtree.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of over sixty seven years, Gloria Pullen of Clarinda; sons, Gary Pullen and wife Shirley of Clarinda, Randy Pullen and wife Shilia of Clarinda, Kim Pullen and wife Mary of Johnston, Iowa; daughter, Gina Pullen of the home; grandchildren, Ericka Johnson and husband Phil of North Liberty, Iowa, Dareth McAlpin and husband Josh of North Liberty, Iowa, Randy Pullen II and wife Trulla of Clarinda, Tonya Maxwell and husband Jason of West Des Moines, Iowa, Ryan Pullen and wife Terrin of Lees Summit, Missouri, Ragan Pullen of Des Moines, Iowa, Brice Pullen of Ferndale, Montana, Andy Pullen of Des Moines, Iowa, Jesse Pullen of Dubuque, Iowa, Trevor Pullen of Ames, Iowa and Quincy Pullen of Johnston; eleven great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Gene Rector and wife Norma of Denver, Colorado; sister-in-law, Beatrice Rector of Clarinda, Iowa; nieces; nephews and many, many friends.

032Richard Eugene Hull was born September 26, 1950 in Maryville, Missouri to Glen and Clara Belle Hull. He passed away June 19, 2012 in the Albany Hospital due to bad health. He was the oldest of 4 sons.
Richard attended Blockton and Bedford schools. He also helped his parents on the family farm. He served three years in the United States Army. He spent time in Germany, the Vietnam War and then back to Germany.
On February 19, 1972 Richard married Ruby Morse. To this union three daughters were born. Rose, Betty, and Barbara. They were mar4ried for 40 years. He worked on farms, had a welding and tire shop, drove truck over the road and later made horse carts. In 1989 at the age of 39 he had health problems and became disabled.
Richard gave his life to God in 1990 and was baptized with his wife Ruby and daughters Betty and Barbara. He enjoyed helping others and giving to others. He loved making things and giving them away.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Wilbur and Allen; grandparents and great-grandparents.
He is survived by wife Ruby of the home in Redding, three daughters: Rosie Miller and husband Shawn of Afton, Iowa, Betty Fields and husband Nick of Perry, Iowa and Barbara Strubberg and husband Andy of St. Louis, Missouri; parents: Glen and Clara Hull of Blockton, Iowa; grandchildren: Clayton and Taylor Miller of Afton, Iowa; Austin Claypole, Zavier and Anicka Fields of Perry, Iowa; Cassandra Bounds and Joey Strubberg of St. Louis, Missouri; and brother Bob Hull and wife Carolyn of Blockton, Iowa.

033John “Jack” Dean Miller, Jr. was born November 28, 1932 in Atlantic, Iowa; a son to John and Rena (Caton) Miller. Jack attended Griswold High School and graduated from there in 1951. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in January of 1953 and served for his country in the Korean War. Jack was discharged from the military on January 14, 1957.
Jack married Dorothy Louise Eilers on June 23, 1957 and to this union were born two daughters: Julie and Jennifer. He worked for the State of Iowa D.O.T. as a Heavy Equipment Operator for 30 years. Jack also farmed land southwest of Clarinda for many years along with raising livestock. During his life, Jack enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.
Jack passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Dorothy.
Surviving Jack are his daughters: Julie Boehmer and husband Stephen of Lee’s Summit, MO and Jennifer Hopkins and husband Patrick of Jefferson City, MO; grandchildren: Stephen Boehmer, Jr. of Springfield, MO, Seth Boehmer and wife Kristyl of Lee’s Summit, MO, Samuel Boehmer of Springfield, MO, Jackie Klumper and husband Matthew, Joseph Hopkins, Jacob Hopkins and wife Sara, Jeanne Hopkins, John Hopkins and Joshua Hopkins all of Jefferson City, MO; five great grandchildren; sister Connie Kirchoff of Atlantic; brothers: Jim Miller and wife Chris of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Orlan Miller of Colorado; and nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral serivces for John "Jack" Miller, 79 of Clarinda, will be held 3:00 pm. Thursday, June 21, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarinda. Burial will follow the service at the Clarinda Cemetery with Military Honors provided by American Legion Sergy Post #98 of Clarinda. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to the start of the service at 3:00 at St. John's Lutheran Church. Marion Franklin Burroughs was born February 1, 1937, in Siam, Iowa, Taylor County, to Jesse Wallace Burroughs and Ethel Frances (Elkins) Burroughs. He grew up in the Clarinda area. He attended the Iowa School for the Deaf from 1954-55, graduating from the Clarinda High School with the Class of 1957. After graduation, he went to work for the Clarinda Herald Journal, a position he held for 18 years. He also worked for the Denison Bulletin Review for 2 years and 30 years for the National Farmer's Organization (NFO) in Corning and Ames as a printer. On June 25, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Jean Calek in Clearmont, Missouri. To this loving union, four boys were born, Marty, Tracy, Bruce and Kelly.
Marion was a member of the Corning United Methodist Church. He had been a Cub Scout Master in Corning, Iowa. He was a member of the Jayces in Clarinda, Iowa. He also was a member of Boots and Bows square dancing in Corning, Iowa.
Marion enjoyed square dancing with Carolyn, playing cards and country western music. He liked to stay busy working on cars, chores and maintaining his farm. He always put other people's needs ahead of his own, whether it was his own family, or strangers. Marion was very proud of his large family and was very engaged in his kids and grandchildren's lives.

John Michael Tritsch was born March 23, 1949, in Shenandoah, Iowa to Myron Tritsch and Doris (Christensen) Tritsch. He grew up in the Coin, College Springs area graduating from South Page High School in 1969.
Following high school, Mike lived in Omaha, Red Oak and most recently in Clarinda. While living in Omaha, he worked in the laundry at the University of Nebraska Hospital. Mike was a member of the Presbyterian Church while living in Red Oak and currently a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clarinda. He enjoyed the Red Oak YMCA and the Clarinda Lied Center. Mike was a collector of toy tractors. He also enjoyed the fellowship of the various coffee groups that he attended.
Preceding Mike in death was his mother, Doris Tritsch.
