| 001 Velma Lucille (McAlpin) Timmerman was born September 10, 1918 in the New Market, Iowa area to Russell Ora and Hazel Lulu (Taylor) McAlpin. She graduated from Villisca High School in the Class of 1936. Lucille married James Henry Timmerman on June 10, 1936 in Rockport, Missouri. Lucille worked as a farmwife raising her three sons. She was a great cook and loved her family and family get togethers. Her favorite hobbies were watching ice skating and tennis on the television, especially Rafael Nadal. Lucille passed away at the age of 93 on Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and son Lonnie D. Timmerman and his wife Paula. Surviving Lucille are her sons: Larry Robert Timmerman and wife Carolyn of Essex, Connecticut and Lyle Dean Timmerman and wife Sue of Nodaway, Iowa; grandchildren: Jenice Hammitt and husband Gary of Vincent, Iowa, Lesley Timmerman of Des Moines, Iowa, Lisa Jackson and husband Steve of Des Moines, Iowa, Bernie Timmerman of Johnston, Iowa, Chris Timmerman of Portland, Oregon, Erik Timmerman and wife Bonnie of Morrisville, Vermont, Cole Timmerman and wife Denise of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, David Timmerman and wife Kim of Earlham, Iowa and Andy Timmerman and wife Liz of Nodaway, Iowa; 16 great grandchildren; sister Elnora Williams and husband Calvin of Clarinda, Iowa; brother James McAlpin and wife Louvada of New Market, Iowa. | 002Jonnie Allen Parrott was born September 26, 1954 in Page County, Iowa, to LeRoy and Doris Marie (Schollian) Parrott. As his mother was hurried to the hospital in labor, Jon got a tad impatient and arrived in the back of a 1948 Plymouth, near the old dump bridge. Having dirt, straw and various other items stuck to him from the car delivery, he was denied entry into the hospital nursery for fear of contaminating the ‘clean’ babies. His mother was told he would have to room with her. After a bit of ‘discussion’ it was decided he would indeed be allowed to occupy the sterile nursery and life began! He lived his entire life in Clarinda, Iowa, and graduated from Clarinda High School with the Class of 1972. Shortly after graduating high school, Jon was employed by the Clarinda Community School District as a custodian and later drove a school bus for special needs children. He loved the students and they could always count on him to look at most any situation from their point of view. He had your back. Because after all, Jon’s motto has always been, “If the cops didn’t see me… I didn’t do it”. He retired from the school after 35 years. Stock car racing was in his blood. It started with his father and then was passed down to Jon and his brother Ermal. They raced for several years before handing over the reins to their nephew, Shannon Walter. When Shannon quit racing, Jon’s nephew Rick Ritchie decided to buy a car and give it a whirl. With Jon’s help, they purchased another car, which Rick is still racing to this day and is currently tied for 3rd in points at Adams County Speedway. Through the years, the #10 car is still speeding around the track! He loved his family and he loved family gatherings. He was especially close to his many nieces and nephews and was famous for making up fun and silly games the kids would beg to play again and again. Old Blind Horse was always a favorite. Jon was a kind and generous man, both to his family and to strangers. He enjoyed going to the casinos on occasion, even though, more often than not, he came home with less money than he went with! One of Jon’s greatest assets was his wonderful sense of humor. He was fun loving and easy to visit with and you could always count on him for a laugh. Jokingly known by his family for his ability to retain “useless information”, Jon was the go-to-guy for those perplexing questions that had everyone else stumped. He would have definitely been the “friend to phone” for the million bucks! Jon peacefully passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Lincoln, Nebraska at Bryan LGH Medical Center West. He is preceded in death by his father LeRoy; paternal grandparents: Everette and Ora Parrott; maternal grandparents: Harold and Elsie Schollian; baby sister Goldie Parrott; sister Marilyn Walter; uncles: Marvin, Bert and Pete; brother-in-law Raymond Mick; and niece Dara Dalene. 003Norman Lee Kling, 86, of Shenandoah, Iowa, passed away Friday, July 20, at Westview Care Center in Indianola surrounded by his children. Norman was born Jan. 26, 1926, in Council Bluffs to Martin Luther Kling and Ellen Kling. He grew up on a farm near Emerson and moved to Shenandoah while in the eighth grade. When Norman's dad died in 1940, he went to work at Colonial Poultry Farms hatchery at the age of 16 to support his mother and himself. It was at the hatchery when he first dated Margaret Greenwalt.

| 007Roy Vernon Hookham was born January 18, 1941 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Maxine Hookham Larson. He passed away on Saturday morning, June 2, 2012 at Jennie Edmondson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 15 days. Roy grew up in the Shenandoah area. Following his school years, Roy served his country in the United States Army for 6 years. On December 30, 1972, he was united in marriage to Peggy Marie Chaney in Tarkio, Missouri. Roy was a hard worker. He worked for Mt. Arbor Nurseries and UBC Lumber in Shenandoah. He spent 28 years at Eaton Corporation where he worked in maintenance. Roy was a gun enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting, camping, traveling, participating in his black powder club. But his true love was his family. He would take his kids to Waubonsie Park every year to hike and they would attend numerous KC Royals baseball games. He was preceded in death by his mother; a son, Stephen Wade Hookham; a sister, Jeanitta Brownfield; and two grandchildren, Angie and Brandon Grueber. | 008Floyd Orville Semmons was born May 11, 1918 in Griswold, Iowa, the son of Fred Orville and Minnie P. (Chubick) Semmons. He passed away on Thursday morning, May 31, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 94 years and 20 days. Shorty grew up in rural Page County and attended country school. He served his country in the United States Army. On April 17, 1936 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Dailey in Clarinda, Iowa. This union was blessed with eight children; Norma, Orville, Sue, Bill, Deloris, Elma, John and Marquitta. Shorty worked as a mechanic for many years. He was at Duncan Motors in Clarinda and then Snyder Motors which later became Select Motors in Shenandoah. He loved to tinker with motors and helping his grandkids build things. He also enjoyed old cars and tractors. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bonnie; his infant daughter, Marquitta; adopted son, Don Mayo; Grandsons, Curtis Semmons and Rick Orme; a brother, Harvey Semmons; and four sisters, Clara Usher, May Huffman, Elsie Semmons and Tillie Miller. Florence S. DeVers 87, of Maryville, MO, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, at the Village Care Center in Maryville. Florence was born on October 25, 1924 in St. Joseph, MO, to Ernest and Lois (Tomlinson) DeVers, they preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her brother, Jack DeVers, and her nephew, David DeVers. Florence worked for many years at the former A&P Grocery Store in Maryville as a retail clerk. She had also been employed at the former McFarland’s Frozen Food Locker Plant also of Maryville. She was of the Methodist Faith. She loved to play tennis and softball, and she also loved to read. Her survivors include: nephews, Bruce (Pam) DeVers, Steve DeVers, and Scott DeVers, all of Maryville, MO., and Paul (Beth) DeVers, Maitland, MO.; nieces, Shirley (Gary) Montross, Maryville, MO, and Susan (Kelly) Wilmes, Conception Junction, MO; several great nieces and nephews; and Marie Ruhnke, long time friend of the home in Maryville. | 010Robert “Bob” Lee Huffman, 65 of Maryville, Missouri passed away Friday, July 27, 2012 at a St. Joseph, MO. hospital. Bob was born December 23, 1946, in Maryville, Missouri to Robert Lee and Arvetta (Shelton) Huffman. He graduated from the Maryville, High School. On April 23, 1966 he married Kristin “Kris” Richardson, and she survives of the home. He is a partner with the C & H Electric Company, he also had worked and retired from Kawasaki corporation after 12 years of service from the maintenance department. Bob is a member of the Elks Lodge, the Masonic Lodge A.F. & A. M, and the Eagles lodge all of Maryville, Missouri. He was a member of the Laura Street Baptist Church, Maryville, MO. He loved to play golf, sing and play the guitar, but most especially he loved to spend time with his family. He never knew a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed one. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Arvetta Huffman, and a brother Herbert Brummitt. He is survived by his wife Kris of the Home, Daughter Tracy Melvin and husband Tim of Maryville, 4 grandchildren, Ryan Still, Brant Melvin, Ashley Pegg and husband Cody, and Austin Melvin, 2 great grandchildren, Addison, and Colton. Joseph William Giesken, 94, Burlington Junction, Missouri, died, August 1, 2012, at his home in Burlington Junction, Missouri. Joe was born November 10, 1917, at Oxford, Missouri near Parnell, Missouri to Joseph Bernard and Lula Belle Hawk Giesken. He was married to Virgie (Heathco) Giesken and to this union two daughters were born, Mary Frances and Mary Jolene. He was in the US Army from March of 1942 to October of 1945 serving in numerous battles in the South Pacific during World War II. A farmer all his life, Joe was also a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church and Rolla Dicks American Legion Post #315 both of Burlington Junction, Missouri. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter Mary Frances Giesken; four brothers John, James, George and Thomas Giesken; three sisters Doris Wynn, Agnes Giesken, Mary Gallagher. She married Milan Anderson on March 19, 1939, in St. Joseph, Missouri. Velma was a member of the Guilford United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, 4-H Leader, O'Howell Strader American Legion Auxiliary, Barnard Missouri, and the Whitford Club. Georgia Rose was born to Pearl and Luda (Asher) Garner May 3, 1925 on their farm near Clearmont, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Dean Walker on May 9, 1941 in Maryville, MO. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1981. To this union were born Delbert Dean Walker who died in infancy; Jerry Dale Walker-Warsaw, MO; Rosalee Verniece Murray-Clarksburg, MO; Deana Kay Carlson-Hopkins, MO. Georgia Rose married Burt Bagley on June 22, 1994 in Bedford, IA. She is survived by her husband: Burt; children: Jerry, Rosalee, and Deana; sons-in-law: Dean Carlson, Carl Murray, Hank Larson; daughter-in-law: Wilma Walker; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She truly loved them all and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, three sisters, and a granddaughter. Georgia Rose was affectionately known as Rose to her many family members and friends. She was a very special person! She loved to cook for others, sew and paint or wood burn pictures. She worked at various jobs through the years as a cleaning lady in homes of people who needed health care. Rose gave her heart and life to God in August 1961. She loved studying the word of God and the fellowship meetings with her brothers and sisters in Christ. Roy J. Mayes, Jr., 83, Maryville, Missouri, died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at his home in rural Maryville. Roy was born August 15, 1928, in Maryville, Missouri to Roy James and Mary From Mayes. He married Beverly Allee on November 23, 1952, in Maryville. A graduate of Maryville High School. He was a shoe cobbler and owner and operator of Cobbler Cottage until his retirement. Roy stayed active helping at the store, doing carpentry, and worked at the Maryville Hy-Vee Foodstore. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Helen Meyer and Mildred Partridge, and a brother Carl Mayes. Jineva Joy Wentworth was born at Parker, Kansas, May 18, 1926, to Walter R. Dysart and Neva (Lemon) Dysart. She grew up with her younger brother William in Parker and attended all twelve years of school there. She then attended college at Pittsburg, Kansas where she received a teaching certificate. Joy married Junior Cree in 1946 and moved to Searchlight, Nevada where they had two children, Walter Clyde and Joy Maria. She later married Merle Wentworth at Paola, Kansas. Three children were born to this union, Joann, Jerrie and John. Merle also brought his daughter Cora into the family. Through the years of raising their family, they lived at Paola, Kansas, McPherson, Kansas and Burlington, Kansas. Merle was a transport truck driver and in 1963 was disabled in an accident, leaving Joy to support the family. Cooking had always been a part of her life as she was working at truck stop café when she met Merle. Through the years, she cooked at the Lakeview Café in Strawn, Kansas and also ran her own café for a few years in Burlington. Following Merle's death, she finished her cooking career at Coffey County Hospital. Whenever you wanted good food or to be treated special with your favorite meal; you knew she would have it. Joy received great pleasure treating friends and family with food and she has passed on that trait to her children. She leaves her children and grandchildren with many great memories. Joy was always busy with sewing or patch work projects. At Christmas, you knew someone would receive a comforter, quilt, or pillow or a novelty item she made. She loved seeing, hearing and reading about country music singers and was always willing to take a road trip to see one if she could. Joy liked to take her family to Lander, Wyoming to visit relatives and friends where she had visited often as a child. Joy was a fifty year Eastern Star member. Following some health issues in 2005, she moved to Clarehaven apartments in Clarinda, Iowa to be near some of her family. She enjoyed talking to all her friends on the phone and visiting with her neighbors. She was able to get out and around for awhile, then her health started going downhill and she spent the last several months at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa and the Good Samaritan Care Center, Villisca, Iowa. Preceding Joy in death were her parents; husband, Merle Wentworth (1972); son, Walter Clyde Cree (2001); brother, William Dysart. Two children were born to this union; Danny and Patricia. Delores' working career included working at Bishops, Super Value, Clary's Shoe Repair as co-owner with her husband and she retired from the Lisle Corporation. Hallie Rosellen Neuhardt, age 97, has joined her beloved husband Tom, Son Dean and daughter Helen, and moved home to be with the Lord on July 22, 2012 at 3:08 AM. Hallie was born in Anita, Iowa on September 4, 1914, the daughter of Jerry L. Karns and Dora (Reed) Karns, both who preceded her in death. Hallie's eight siblings have also preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Lubeley and husband James of Phoenix, Arizona. Also a granddaughter, Cindy Earp and husband Wyatt; a grandson, David Hayes and wife Trish; great-granddaughter, Ria Newcomb and husband Andy; Katlyn Kerr and husband Curtis; Chelsea and Madison Hayes; and a great-great-granddaughter, Addison Kerr, all of the Osage Beach, Missouri area. One brother-in-law, Doyle Flora of Tustin, California along with several nieces and nephews. Hallie was united in marriage to Thomas (Tom) Glen Neuhardt on July 16, 1932. They spent their married life farming around the Lenox area. She was a member of the Stringtown Church for many years. She will long be remembered for her embroidery work, quilts, lap robes and her homemade pickles. She loved to garden, can and do other crafts. The family is very grateful for the wonderful care she received the past five years at the Clearview Homes in Clearfield, Iowa, and for Hospice of Mount Ayr in her final days battling cancer.

She was a lifelong resident of Kansas City with the exception of six years as a child in Shenandoah, Iowa . Deborah graduated from Oak Park High School, Kansas City. She continued her education and became a dental hygienist. She was united in marriage on July 27, 1973, in Kansas City, Missouri to Christopher Gramlich. Deborah enjoyed classical music and attended Park College in Parkville, Missouri as a young girl and played the violin in the Kansas City Philharmonic now known as the Kansas City Symphony. She attended the Mid-America Photography school and managed many photographers taking sorority pictures for their colleges. Deborah also attend the University of Santa Monica and became a licensed Gemologist. She enjoyed using her artistic ability in sewing and cooking and especially enjoyed helping her special friends baking and decorating wedding cakes. Preceding Deborah in death was her mother. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Chris Gramlich of Oakview, Missouri; father, Vernon Ross Annan of Gladstone, Missouri; sister, Twyla Cochran and husband George of Kansas City, Missouri; brother, Steven Annan and wife Jean of Kansas City, Missouri; nieces and nephew, Kamell Clauson, Melanie Cochran and Connor Annan; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

| 020Harold Stanley Young was born July 17, 1940 to Sammie James and Goldie Wilma (Schollian) Young. Stanley first started school in a one room county school and then later finished in Braddyville. During Stanley’s high school years, he was an accomplished athlete excelling in basketball; participating all four years. He graduated in the Braddyville Class of 1958 and furthered his education going to school and becoming an LPN. Stanley married Jean Michelle (Whorton) Young on August 13, 1987 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Stanley’s current hobby was long haul team driving with his wife for Tyson Foods, Inc. They traveled all over the United States together for work and also in the RV during their personal time; enjoying each other’s companionship. Work was Stanley’s hobby and he was a great and faithful employee still pursuing his hobby until his unexpected illness that lead to his untimely death. Stanley passed away August 2, 2012 at the Clarinda Regional Health Center. He is preceded in death by his parents; maternal and paternal grandparents; and nephew Darin Heerman. Surviving Stanley are his wife of 24 years, Michelle; children: Eva Loree Webster of St. Louis, MO, James (Brandi) Young of Holdenville, OK and Kyle (Katie) Young of Norman, OK; step-children: Syreeta Whorton of Oklahoma City, OK, Kwame Dewberry of Philadelphia, PA and Monique Hill of Clear Lake, TX; numerous grandchildren and step-grandchildren; sisters: Stephanie (Wayne) Simmons of Guthrie Center, IA and Faren (Ric) Rasmussen of Essex, IA; beloved aunt Doris Marie Parrott of Clarinda, IA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Stanley will continue his second hobby of full-time RV’ing with Michelle in their Airstream. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother and friend. | 021Patricia Ann (Murphy) James was born November 21, 1928 in Maryville, Missouri to Laurence Travis and Ruth H. (Jones) Murphy. Her family lived in rural Quitman, Missouri where she attended the Butler Country School called “Buzzard Roost”. The family moved to Braddyville, Iowa in 1940. Pat graduated from Braddyville High School in the Class of 1946. She furthered her education in Maryville at the Teacher’s College in 1946, 1948 and 1949; spending 1947 in the Philippines caring for her aunt Esther. She married Ralph S. Fishell on May 29, 1949 in Shambaugh, Iowa. To this union were born two daughters: Terry Lea and Samm who grew up in Braddyville where Pat worked for the Union Gas Company for over 30 years. Pat married Loren Samuel James on January 17, 1970 in Clarinda, Iowa. Together they farmed west of Shambaugh from 1974 until moving to Clarinda in 1982. After Loren’s passing on June 1, 2008, Pat continued to work at the Clarinda Regional Health Center as the medical records clerk. She retired from the hospital in 2009 and soon after was diagnosed with cancer. Pat passed away August 2, 2012 at her residence in Clarinda under the care of her daughter Terry Lea. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Loren; brother Bill Murphy; and granddaughter Sarah Larinda Cox. Surviving Pat are her daughters: Terry Lea Crowley of Clarinda and Samantha Ruth Henness and husband Alan of Schertz, TX; grandchildren: Tammy Lynn Christiansen of East Lynne, MO, Gabriel Patrick Baxter of St. Joseph, MO, Brian H. | 022Charlotte Lorraine (Bomer) Dunkin was born March 30, 1929 in Burlington, Iowa to Elmer and Alice (Julius) Bomer. She married Raymond Strand in 1949 in Glenwood, Iowa. Charlotte worked at Ben Franklin and Lee’s for many years. After Raymond’s death in 1964, Charlotte married Lynn Dunkin in 1966 and moved to Villisca, Iowa. She worked at Clarinda Company until she retired. After Lynn Dunkin died in 1973, Charlotte moved to Clarinda where she was very active in the Legion Auxiliary and volunteered with R.S.V.P. She loved traveling, playing cards and spending time with her family. Charlotte was an excellent cook and was very proud of her large cook book collection. She enjoyed her companionship with her dog Daisy that she loved dearly. Charlotte passed away August 2, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Raymond Strand and Lynn Dunkin; son John Strand; brothers: Gerald Bomer and Randall Bomer; and great-great grandson Carter Meaike. | 024Ruth Ann Miles was born December 14, 1917 near College Springs, Iowa, the daughter of Will and Anna (Walker) McComb. She passed away on Thursday morning, August 2, 2012 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 94 years, 7 months and 19 days, Ruth grew up in the Coin, Iowa area attending school and graduating from Coin High School in 1936. In September 1940, she and Edgar Miles were married in Maryville, Missouri. This union was blessed with one son, Bill, in 1942. Ruth lived most of her married life in the Farragut area. After Edgar retired, they moved into Farragut in 1978. They enjoyed many winters as snowbirds in Prescott Valley and Bull Head City, Arizona. She was active in the Fremont County Farm Bureau. She was a member of the Neighborhood O.K. Club and None Such Club. She volunteered at Hand Hospital and did seasonal work at Henry Fields in Shenandoah. After moving to Farragut, she transferred her membership from the Coin Methodist Church to the Farragut Congregational Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar in 2000, infant sister Georgia Mae, sisters Dorothy Vawter and Ruby Boehm; brothers, Merle and Raymond McComb, grandaughter, Rozanne Miles; sisters-in-law, Geraldine McComb, Frances McComb, Audra Davison, Dorothy Miles-Harris; nieces Marilyn Ann Goldsberry, and Betty Sherod, brother-in-law, Edwin Boehm and Melbern Vawter. She later went on to attend Northwest Missouri State University where she obtained her Master's Degree in Elementary Education. On February 16, 1938, she was united in marriage to Harlan Claire Gilmore at the home of her parents. They were blessed with four children; Doris Elaine, Ruth Ann, William Houston and Harlan Claire, Jr., who died at birth on November 15, 1942. Charlene was a teacher for many years in rural schools, South Page and Clarinda Schools. After her retirement she enjoyed traveling, quilting, volunteer work and her family and friends. She was a long time member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Women of Song and various teachers' organizations. She is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Eda Houston; her loving husband Claire Gilmore on June 26, 1969; infant son Harlan Claire Jr.; a sister Doris Engleka, and an infant brother. He then later earned his Associates of Liberal Arts Degree at SWCC and attended one year at Northwestern Missouri State University in Maryville towards a teaching degree. On October 14, 1978 he was united in marriage to Pamela Klassen at the Lenox Christian Church. Michael worked as a fence builder most of his life. In recent years, he was employed managing hog farms with Iowa Select and also enjoyed the ministry of being a mentor for many children. Michael was always the one to tell a joke. He was a simple man that never wanted much and always valued his friendship with others. He loved fishing, Civil War history, playing hearts on the computer, and most of all, his family. He grew up in Malvern and graduated from Malvern Community High School in 1961. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Wayne State College, Wayne, Nebraska and he received his Masters degree from Chadron State College, Chadron, Nebraska. He was united in marriage to Liz Cunningham on December 28, 1967 at North Platte, Nebraska. They were blessed with two sons, Brad and Ward. Gee taught social studies in Malvern and Clarinda and coached football, basketball, track, baseball, and softball until he retired in 2001. He loved working with the kids whether in the classroom or on the athletic field/court. Gee was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Clarinda, Iowa. He loved to go fishing as often as he could. He refereed volleyball for many years. Gee did ASVAB testing for the government at eastern Nebraska and Southwest Iowa schools for seven years. In his retirement he loved to get together with friends to talk over the latest game or just to tell stories or jokes. You could always tell Gee was in the room when you heard his infectious laughter. Gee was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Jack and Kenneth Robinson. Mildred Maud (Baxter) Davidson was born October 10, 1920, in Bedford, Iowa the daughter of John Harold Baxter and Ruby Pearl (Derrickson) Baxter. Mildred was the second oldest of five children. Her parents were farmers and she grew up attending country schools and was the Taylor County Champion Speller. She also was active in 4-H as a child, where she was elected Taylor County President. While in high school, she participated in basketball. She graduated from the Conway High School with the Class of 1937. After graduation, Mildred worked at the ASCS office in Bedford for two years. On February 17, 1939, she was united in marriage to Dwight Davidson. They were blessed with the birth of three children, Lois, Alan and Nancy Lea. The family farmed until Dwight's retirement in 1977. They lived on the same farm four miles south of Bedford for 38 years before moving into town. In 1963, Mildred returned to work at the ASCS office as Program Clerk until her retirement in 1981. Mildred was a member of the Berea Church of Christ in rural Bedford. She enjoyed golf, playing bridge, reading, solving difficult cross-word puzzles, women's club organizations and traveling. She wrote weekly letters to her three children and visited them as much as possible. Left to cherish Mildred's memory are her three children, Lois Lee and husband Richard of Nixa, Missouri; Alan Davidson and wife Dianna of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Nancy Lea of Waiheke Island, New Zealand; five grandchildren, David Brian Lee, Todd Lee (Christine Lee), Ryan Davidson, Delynn Davidson (Joe Fox) and Samuel Holford (Eve his fiancé); five great-grandchildren, Michael Lee, Max Lee, Madison Lee, Tiago Fox and Tycho Fox; two brothers, Homer and Dean Baxter; along with many other relatives and friends. Basil Earl Swalley, 65, passed away at his home in Chanute, Kansas, Friday, August 3, 2012. He was born January 24, 1947, in Maryville, Mo., the son of Joseph and Nellie (Thompson) Swalley. He graduated North Nodaway High School, Hopkins, Missouri. He was united in marriage on February 4, 1978, with Janice (Vassar) Swalley, in Maryville, Mo. She survives, of the home. Basil and Jan made their home in Chanute for twenty years. Basil was a longtime cable television professional, and had served as a cable system technical supervisor. He is survived, in addition to his wife, Jan, by his daughters, Kim Swalley, Humboldt, Kansas. Amber Swalley, Chanute, Kansas; two granddaughters, Janae and Kaitlyn Bartlett; and a sister, Ardith Zion, Maryville, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents. John Lester Williams was born October 3, 1925, at Mapleton, Iowa to Izola (Laub) Williams and Mason Williams. He grew up in the Braddyville area attending Center Buchanan School and graduated from Braddyville High School. Lester served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II off shore Japan and during the Korean Conflict based in Guam repairing electrical ship systems. Lester and Shelia Mace were united in marriage November 20, 1946 at Hiawatha, Kansas. They were blessed with five children, Shira, Shilia, John, Shelly and Jaymes. John Lester lived his life on a farm near Braddyville and after losing their home to fire, they moved to Shambaugh and in later years to Clarinda. Lester worked as an electrician for many years and then drove an over the road semi-truck for twenty five years. He received an award for driving over a million miles accident free. Following retirement at the age of 75, one of his proudest feats was designing and building "on his own" their log home two miles east of Clarinda. His leisure hours were spent playing cribbage, chess, cards, doing cross word puzzles (in ink) and he loved dancing, especially the polka. He was an excellent gardener, making sure the whole family had fresh vegetables all summer. Lester enjoyed selling his vegetables at the Farmers Market for many years. He was lovingly known by family and friends by his nicknames of "Willie", "Shorty" or "Johnny". Lester was preceded in death by his parents, Izola and Mason Williams; his sixteen year old son, Jaymes; his brother, Joe Williams; sisters-in-law, Ailene Williams and Linda Mace. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of over sixty-five years, Shelia Williams of Clarinda; daughters, Shira Bridie and husband Larry of Clarinda, Shilia Pullen and husband Randy of Clarinda, Shelly Grimsley and husband Gene of Council Bluffs, Iowa; son, John Lester Williams, Jr. and his wife Sheryl of Clarinda; grandchildren, Randy Pullen II and wife Trulla of Clarinda, Tonya Maxwell and husband Jason of West Des Moines, Iowa, Ryan Pullen and wife Terrin of Lees Summit, Missouri, Ragan Pullen of Des Moines, Iowa, Jason Bridie and wife Sara of Clarinda, Joshua Bridie and his partner Robert of San Francisco, California, Jeremy Williams and Kasey of Clarinda, Jarrod Williams and wife Melissa of Bellevue, Nebraska, Justin Williams and wife Brandi of Clarinda, Shala Stroud and husband Andy of LaVista, Nebraska, Scott Grimsley and wife Tracey of Council Bluffs, Christen Stiverson and husband Larry of Council Bluffs, Karen Mac Crate and husband Mike of Londonderry, New Hampshire; twenty four great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; sisters, Eleanor Cabbage and husband Thaine of Clarinda, Sharon Lightner and husband Lynn of Lincoln, Nebraska, Maureen Caddy and husband Max of Gretna ,Nebraska; brother-in-law, Harlan Mace of Clarinda, Iowa other relatives and many friends |
| 031Dale “Butch” Edwin Williams was born October 31. 1943 at Athelstan, Iowa the son of Leona (Booher) and George Williams. He attended elementary school in Blockton and graduated from Bedford High School in 1962. He moved to Shenandoah and worked at Mt. Arbor Nursery until 1989. Dale and Gloria Harrison, who knew each other from school, were married April 16, 1966. The couple had one child, Michael Dale. They moved to their Siam home in 1989. He continued working in the nurseries at Henry Field’s until 1995. Butch enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, tending to his chickens and driving around with his dog, Spottie, (Gomer). Dale is preceded in the by his parents George and Leona Booher Williams. Dale is survived by wife Gloria of Siam, Iowa; son Mike William and Karla Benedict; grandchildren Brandi (Donkey) Williams and Nick Herzberg of Clarinda, Iowa; Katie (Toad) Williams and Levi Baker and their son Eli and one on the way, Wyatt (Boogie) Williams of Siam, Iowa and Konnar Bogan of Mt Ayr, Iowa; brother Harold Williams and wife Jeanette of Kellerton, Iowa; sister Alice Ann Johnson and husband Rick of Athelstan, Iowa; and brother Paul Gene Williams and wife Judith of Linking, Mo, and many other family and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel, Clarinda, with Pastor Bill Farrens officiating. Interment was at Siam Cemetery. | 032Mabel was born Dorothy Elizabeth Hollowell December 5, 1919. Her parents were Jess and Nora (Crump) Hollowell of Roundup, Montana. Upon the death of her father she was adopted by William and Edith Mae (Cave) Coddington from Schaller, Iowa. Her name was then changed to Mabel Dorothy Coddington. She was accepted, raised and loved as a member of the family. Her adopted mother passed away when Mabel was 12 years old. She then made her home from family to family. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1937. In December 1937 she married Wesley Brinkley of Spencer. To this union three children were born: Marilyn, Weldon and Sandra. She was baptized April 2, 1944 and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith on March 30, 1947 at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa. Mabel and Wes raised their children in the Spencer community both urban and rural. She was active in Clarinda St. John Lutheran Church with the Sewing Guild and putting together the “Reporter”. She worked at Spencer Municipal Hospital for 16 years retiring in 1990. Since 1992 she has made her home in Clarinda, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Her husband passed away in 1967.Surviving are two daughters and a son: Marilyn Wilbur and husband Norman Wilbur of Clarinda, Iowa, Pastor Weldon Brinkley and wife Barbara Brinkley of Cleveland, Mississippi, and Sandra Dunigan and husband William Dunigan of San Diego, California. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Mabel’s sweet disposition will be missed by many Services will be held 10:30 Friday, August 17, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarinda with Rev. Daryl Tompkins officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 16, at Riverside Cemtery, Spencer, Iowa. There is open visitation Tuesday and Wednesday at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel.
