Antton David and Rayland Joseph Embley, twin sons on Garry and Tara (Sobbing) Embley, of Burlington Junction, MO, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2012, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, MO.

Russell Marion Davis 70, Maryville, MO, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012, at the Golden Living Center, Maryville.
Russell was born on May 25, 1942, in Lenox, Iowa to Lawrence and Helen (Boham) Davis. He had resided in Kent, Iowa before moving to Maryville while a teenager.
He worked many years at the former Maryville Packing Co., and he was a member of the First Baptist Church, Maryville. Preceded him in death were his parents, his grandmother, Addie Davis, sister, Benita Aley, and brother, Allen Davis.
Survivors include his children, Shandolyn Carpenter, Savannah, MO, and son, Richard Davis, Maryville, MO; brother, Jeff Davis, Apache Junction, AZ; sister Kristin Lynch, Mesa, AZ; step-brother, Kirby Davis, Ravenwood, MO, and step sister, Nina Beason, Maryville, MO; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Davis has been cremated. Memorial services will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, September 17, 2012, at the Bram-Danfelt Funeral Home, Maryville, MO, Rev. Paul McKim will be the officiant. The inurnment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville, MO. No formal visitation is planned.

Marilyn Ann Ripley Johnson 79, of Maitland, MO, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 20, 2012, at the St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, MO, with her family at her side.
Marilyn was born on July 10, 1933, near Graham, MO, to Ralph and Viola (Brooke) Ripley. She attended the former Miller grade school and graduated from the Graham Missouri High School in 1951. She was a resident of this area most all her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles A. Johnson, brother, Ray Ripley, and a nephew, Randy Ray Ripley.
She was a member and attended the Graham United Methodist Church. Other memberships included the Charlie Pride Fan Club, ASPCA, the Maryville Eagles Lodge, the Graham Alumni Association, and a former member of the Graham Street Fair Committee.
Marilyn had worked many years as an operator, and later a supervisor for the United Telephone Company in Maryville. She had also worked at the Turn-A-Corner convenience store, Fillmore, MO. She retired at age 70.
Left to mourn her passing are her children, son, Robin, and wife Kim (Chesnut) Bennett, Skidmore, MO; daughters, Tammy, and husband Norb Wilmes, Maitland, MO, and Kimberly Ann Wood, Maitland, MO; 5 grandchildren, Linda (Wood), and husband Ryan Russell, Jason Wood, Morgan Wilmes, Crystal Poppa, Michael Poppa, Jr., and Hailey Poppa; 5 great grandchildren, 1 niece and 6 great nieces and nephews, and other cousins and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday, September 24, 2012, at the Graham United Methodist Church, Graham, MO, Rev. Connie Ury will be the officiator. The burial will be in the Kyle Cemetery, south of Graham, MO.

Erma Louise Bilby, 90, Maryville, formerly of Rosendale and Savannah, Missouri, died Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Nodaway Nursing Home, Maryville.
Erma was born October 24, 1921, in Skidmore, Missouri to the late Frank Merle and Mable Aurel (Taylor) Coston.
She was graduate of Effingham Kansas High School, Effingham, Kansas; recieved an AB Degree from Dallas Christian Collage, Dallas, Texas.
She was united in marriage to Lt. Col. John Russell Bilby on December 28, 1973 in Skidmore.
Erma's memberships included: Skidmore Christian Church, Rosendale Garden Club, 50 year member Skidmore Order of the Eastern Star, The Retired Officers Association, DAV Commanders Club and past secretary of the Nodaway County Oates program.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lt. Col. John R. Bilby (March 14, 1984); two brothers, William F. and Robert V, Coston; and a sister Earlene Markham.
Erma is survived by: step-son Larry (Monika) Bilby, Fairfax, Virginia; sister LaVena M. (Jim) Loehr, Kansas City, Missouri; a sister-in-law Kathryn Coston; many nieces, nephews; great nieces, great nephews; great great nieces and great great nephews.
Funeral Services will be at 11 AM, Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at 10 AM. Burial will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.

William Marshall Romine, 69, Maryville, Missouri, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Heartland Regional Medical Center, Saint Joseph, Missouri.
Bill was born Wednesday, May 19, 1943, in Washington, Iowa to Glendal and Margaret Marshall Romine.
A graduate of Chariton Iowa High School, Bill was a 45 year employee for Hy-Vee Food Store.
He married Patricia Kauzlarich at St. Mary's Catholic Church, August 28, 1965, in Centerville, Iowa.
Bill was a member of the St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville, Mo.
Preceding in death were his parents, brother Glen "Butch" Romine and a nephew Brad Romine.
Survivors include Patricia Ann Romine of the home; daughter Dr. Susan (Steve) Harvey, Lawrence, KS, son Steven (Julie) Romine, Orlando, FL, brother Jerry (Karen) Romine, Des Moines, IA, sisters Connie (Jim) Keller, Albia, Iowa and Judy Romine, Carlisle, Iowa.
Visitation is Sunday, October 14, from 4-6:00 PM at Price Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary following at 6:00 PM.

Loretta Florence Ebrecht, 81, Maryville, Missouri, died Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Golden Living Center, Maryville.
Loretta was born June 29, 1931, in Nodaway County, Missouri to Joseph Truman and Pauline Eva Cluster Wallace.
She married James Samuel Ebrecht, Jr., July 26, 1947, in Maryville, MO.
Loretta was a member of the Laura Street Baptist Chruch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, (August 4, 1988), daughter Loretta Chase, brother Jackie Lee Wallace, step-father Dennis Wallace and a grandson Jerry A. Morlock Jr..
Survivors include: daughter Patty Morlock, Maryville; four sons James T. Ebrecht, Maryville, John R. (Bob) Ebrecht, Maryville, Dennis D. Ebrecht, Henryetta, Okalhoma, and Donald D. Ebrecht, Atchison, Kansas; four grandchildren of which she raised in her home, Marie, Rickie, Sam and Tim Doolin; twenty four grandchildren; thirty two great grand children and two great great grandchildren.

007MARJORIE J. SCHRADER, age 89 of Sidney, IA died Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Sidney Ambassador following an extended illness. Marjorie was born April 28, 1923 near Nodaway, Iowa to Edward Charles Stroud and Mary J (Lane) Stroud. She graduated from Villisca High School in 1941. She taught in rural schools in Taylor Co., and later attended some classes at Clarinda Jr. College.
On January 12, 1945 she married Cecil Schrader in Clarinda, Iowa. They farmed in Taylor Co. near Guss, Iowa. They moved to the Shenandoah area in 1962 where she worked for Montgomery Ward, Tip Top packaging and Ross-Shenandoah Insurance. She was a member of the Sidney United Methodist Church and UMW where she enjoyed working. She belonged to the Research Club, Merry Few Club, and Shenandoah BPW for many years. She enjoyed people, reading and flowers.
Marjorie was preceded death by her Husband Cecil; parents; brother, Dale Stroud; and a sister, Bernice McCoy. She is survived by her son, Roger Schrader and wife Sharon of Fremont, NE; 2 granddaughters, Naomi Gutz and husband Mike of Minneapolis, MN and Michele Wessels and husband Scott of LaVern, MN; 7 grandchildren, Victoria (Reed) Bohan, Dominic Reed, Zoe Gutz, Christian and Bailey Rise, Cameron and Calvin Wessels all of MN; several loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jeanne Hutchinson Davison, 90, passed away peacefully on September 4th in Yakima, Washington.
A member of “The Greatest Generation”, she was born on January 10, 1922 in Maryville, Missouri, to Samuel Hutchinson, a farmer, and Frances Lloyd, a schoolteacher. She had a younger brother, Samuel Lloyd Hutchinson, who was a famous cartoonist.
Jeanne grew up on a farm outside the town of Graham, Missouri.
The family belonged to the Presbyterian Church of Graham.
At the height of the Great Depression, when Jeanne was just ten, her father died and the farm was divided. Upon her mother’s remarriage, the family moved to town.
Jeanne attended school in a one-room schoolhouse until enrolling in Graham High School (now Nodaway-Holt High School). It was quite an adjustment from being the only pupil in her grade level to being in a classroom full of students! Upon graduation, she attended Maryville State Teachers’ College (now Northwest Missouri State University). Her first job was teaching country school in a one-room schoolhouse.
Next, she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she worked in the front office of Bryan Memorial Hospital. Jeanne joined the “Lincolnettes”, a group similar to the U.S.O. One of the highlights of her life was dancing to big name bands.
A natural beauty, she was approached by a modeling agency, but abhorred the idea of moving to New York, as she was a true country girl. She always took great pride in her appearance, never being seen without makeup.
Jeanne worked as a secretary for GE at the Hanford Project in Richland, WA. Her first husband, Bob Eddleman, an Air Force pilot, also worked at Hanford. They lived on the Yakima River outside Richland and raised championship dogs. Tragically, Bob developed brain cancer and died at the age of 45.
Her second husband, Bill Davison, was a Canadian lawyer with the British Columbia government. They lived in Victoria, B.C. until Bill’s untimely death due to a heart attack.
Jeanne then moved to Yakima and worked as a medical transcriptionist in an osteopathic hospital’s physician’s office, which was her favorite job. She was a longtime Yakima resident, and had many close friends in the area. She was always there when a friend needed assistance. If Jeanne knew that a friend was struggling financially, she would (anonymously) pay for her dinner when their group went out.
However, Jeanne always considered Missouri to be “home”, and enjoyed attending class reunions in Graham, as well as the Graham Sesquicentennial in 1989.
Jeanne had a brilliant intellect, a vast vocabulary, and a great sense of humor. Her passion was family history and genealogy. She was also a published writer.
She was ahead of her time in health research, and once arrived at a friend’s house with a pillowcase full of vitamins!
Jeanne was an excellent cook, and gave recipe advice to her friends, resulting in star-quality meals. She loved eating out and critiquing each dish.
She lived on the phone 24/7 and had all her friends’ phone numbers memorized.
Jeanne was an enthusiastic fan of her brother Lloyd’s cartoons. And, she spoke several times a day to her niece Stephanie, sharing many hearty laughs.
Jeanne had a youthful spirit and was full of zest and enthusiasm until the end.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and her brother.
Jeanne was a dear aunt and a beloved friend. She is survived by her niece, Dr. Stephanie Hutchinson, a Los Angeles playwright/composer/lyricist, and a host of dear friends.
Jeanne is now rejoicing in Heaven with all who have gone before!

009Jesse Arthur McIntyre, Jr., passed away on September 13, 2012 in Shenandoah, Iowa. Jesse was the son of Jesse A. McIntyre, Sr., and Flora Elizabeth McMahon McIntyre. He was born on January 23, 1919. Jesse married Irene LaVonne Watkins on May 18, 1942 at the Presbyterian Church in Tarkio, Missouri. Irene, Jesse's wife of 62 years, passed away in May 2004. He is survived by his three daughters, Star Ann Kloberdanz (and her husband, Ed Kloberdanz) of Shenandoah, Janell McIntyre of Shenandoah, and Amelia McIntyre of Kansas City, Missouri. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Mark, Matthew (his partner Adrienne Hart), Amy and Luke(his wife Letha) Kloberdanz, David (his wife Kristy) and John (his wife Teri) York, and Andrew and Benjamin Carlson; ten great-grandchildren, Ryan and Haley Kloberdanz, Conan, Dane and Brogan Kloberdanz, Ayla Fern Hart, Katie and Bryan York, and Savanna and Conner York. He is also survived by his sister and her husband, Patricia and Willie Johnson of Red Oak.
Jesse graduated from Tarkio College June 3, 1941, with a business degree. On June 18, 1941, he went into the Air Force, where he obtained the rank of Major. He was discharged March 1946. After his military service, Jesse went to auction school at Creston, Iowa. Jesse spent six decades as an auctioneer and Realtor in Southwest Iowa and Northwest Missouri. In addition, he farmed in Fremont County, Iowa, and had a lifelong appreciation for the demands of farming.
Jesse received the Meritorious Service to 4-H Award in 1955, the Alumni Award in 1968, the Honorary 4-H pin in 1973, and was inducted in the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame in 2004. Jesse received the Outstanding Service to Agriculture award from the Shenandoah Chamber of Commerce in 1990 and the Small Businessman of the Year award from Southwest Iowa SCORE in 1995.
Private graveside services were held at the Farragut Cemetery.

010Doris Louise DeLong Henstorf was born on July 30, 1919 in Fort Morgan, Colorado. She was one of three children born to Oliver and Amy McGrew-DeLong. She graduated from high school in Fort Morgan and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Economics.
On April 13, 1941 Doris was united in marriage to Robert Harrison Henstorf. The couple was blessed with the birth of two children; Richard and Harriette. They made their home in Farragut, where both Bob and Doris enjoyed their involvement in a variety of professional and social activities.
Doris was active in PEO, Eastern Star, Delta Delta Delta alumnae, First Congregational Church, book clubs and bridge groups. She enjoyed people! Music was a special interest for her. She served as a substitute organist at the Congregational Church for many years. Doris was employed at the First National Bank in Farragut and later worked as a travel agent for Central Travel Service.
After Bob's death Doris moved to Lincoln where she resided at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, Amy and Oliver; infant sister Jean Elizabeth and brother Dean. 011Patsy Arlene (Herrick) Zuck, daughter of E. C. and Nellie (Wylie) Herrick, was born on February 9, 1931 at Massena, Iowa. She passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Her early life was spent in Exira, Iowa, where she started school. The family later moved to Shenandoah, Iowa in 1940. Pat attended the Shenandoah Community Schools graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1949.
On December 31, 1949, Pat was united in marriage to Duane Leon Zuck at the First Christian Church in Shenandoah. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed two miles south of Farragut, Iowa. In 1961 they moved to a farm near Shenandoah. They moved into Shenandoah in 1989, where they lived at 605 South Ave until moving to Council Bluffs, Iowa in 2009. Their last move brought them to Omaha, Nebraska.
Over the years, Pat worked a variety of different jobs utilizing her talents. She worked as a loving mother and housewife and worked at Henry Field's for many years. In 1989 she began working for the State Inspection, Appeals and Tax Revenue Department and Iowa Public Television in Des Moines. She later worked in Creston at the Iowa Department of Transportation and Job Service. She also worked for the State Hospital in Clarinda as a bookkeeper and record keeper. She last worked in Council Bluffs in Revenue and Finance. Pat had excellent office skills from typing to proof reading to adding figures and numbers.
Volunteering was important to Pat, through the years she was active in the Norwich Methodist Church where she was the Youth Fellowship and Choir Director and also church pianist. She was also active in Eastern Star, the First Christian Church, Pairs and Squares square dancing, Rotary, also served as Treasurer and delivered Meals on Wheels, and was President of the Shenandoah Senior Center.
Music was also a big part of Pat's life and she was proud to be a self taught pianist. She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, reading, flowers, camping, pets, road trips and vacations.
Preceding Pat in death were her parents and son, Michael Duane Zuck in 1975. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Duane Zuck of Omaha, NE; daughter, Terri Ertzner of Omaha, NE; son, Jerry Zuck of Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren, Chris Foster of Omaha, NE, Michael Zuck of Kansas City, KS and Michelle Zuck of Kansas City, MO; other relatives and many friends. She will be greatly missed and loving remembered, by all those whose lives she touched |
012Wayne Maurice Meyers was born on May 1, 1920 in Yorktown, Iowa, the son of William H. and Ruth (Mace) Meyers. Wayne entered into eternal peace on Tuesday morning, September 18, 2012 at the Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Wayne's early years were spent in the community of Yorktown. He was a 1938 graduate of Coin High School. On November 11, 1939 he was united in marriage to his best friend and lifelong companion, Betty Cass in Grand Island, Nebraska. During their marriage they resided in Shenandoah, Iowa, McAllen, Texas, Mesa, Arizona and Council Bluffs, Iowa. They enjoyed their summer home in Okoboji, Iowa.
In 1942 Wayne enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in the South Pacific. He received an honorable discharge in 1945. Wayne worked for Paxton and Gallagher and as a salesman for Wright and Wihelmy in Omaha, Nebraska for 35 years. He enjoyed his work and visiting with his clients.
He was a member of the Shenandoah American Legion, was a member of the Shenandoah United Methodist Church and served on the board at the Shenandoah American Legion Country Club. Some of his hobbies included golfing, woodworking, and playing bridge with their "Saturday Night" bridge club.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother Richard; sister Phyllis Goecker; son Bill Meyers; and his devoted wife of 72 years, Betty.

013Lee Ellen Allumbaugh passed away September 27, 2012 at her home in Essex, Iowa. Lee was born the daughter of Floyd and Thelma (Homan) Fike on January 10, 1935. She was born and raised in Shenandoah. Besides living in Essex and Shenandoah she had also resided in Omaha, NE, California and Michigan.
Lee worked 16 years for Lewis Cleaners, 8 years for Earl May and 6 years for Henry Fields. Some of her hobbies included camping, playing cards, fishing, crocheting, crafts, her flower gardens and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Eagles Club.
Preceding Lee in death were her parents, husband Jack V. Allumbaugh, Sr. and sister Patricia Ann Carlson.

John Franklin Bayless was born in Northboro, Iowa on December 15, 1924, to Floyd and Zelma (Cain) Bayless. John entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in Shenandoah, Iowa, at the blessed age of 87 years.
As a child, John made his own games. They used to use a stick to throw mud balls at the big church door. Of course, they always had to clean them off. They made arrows, sling shots and rubber guns. A favorite was push the hoop, using a small metal hoop and stick. He also enjoyed sleigh riding. They never bought toys. A rubber car cost five cents, but they never had money to buy one.
When John got older he trapped to make spending money and also delivered newspapers. He attended all twelve years of school in Northboro. After graduation, he went to San Diego, CA where he worked at the Consolidated Vultee Bomber Plant to assist with the war effort When he came back, he worked at General Mills in Omaha, he helped his dad as a carpenter (until his dad took a job as a school janitor) and worked at Browns Shoe Fit. After his father had a stroke, John took over as school janitor.
On December 31, 1947 John was united in marriage to Dorothy Rosenbohm in Kolona, Iowa. The couple made their home in Northboro, until moving to Shenandoah in 2009. The couple was blessed with the birth of three sons, Daron was killed while attending college. The couple enjoyed 65 years of marriage.
Following his marriage to Dorothy, John began working full time as a carpenter, working with his brothers; Rex and Dee. He later worked with his sons Dale and Dennis until his retirement in 1989, at the age of 65 years. He built many homes around Southwest Iowa and completed numerous remodeling projects. Dale and Dennis continue the family tradition of Bayless Construction.
John enjoyed collecting things; coins, guns, political buttons, marbles, ect. He said "I'm like the city dump, I collect everything!" His love of nature began at an early age when he hunted ground squirrels along the railroad tracks and trapped animals and sold their fur for spending money. Through out his years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to auctions. He and Dorothy would have a booth at a couple of antique shops. 015Daniel Lee Good was born in Shenandoah, Iowa on September 11, 1956, to George Lee and Anna Belle (Richardson) Good. Daniel entered into eternal peace on Monday, October 8, 2012 in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Daniel was born and raised in Shenandoah and attended Shenandoah High and Elementary School's. On September 1, 1977 he was united in marriage to Colleen Elizabeth Greene in Rock Port, Missouri. Through the years they had lived in rural Riverton, Imogene and Shenandoah.
Daniel had worked for Eaton's Corporation for the past 11years. Before that he had worked for Henry Fields for a number of years.
Daniel was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shenandoah, he was a soldier and servant of the Lord. He enjoyed camping, boating, and being with family and friends.
Daniel was preceded in death by his; father George Good, grandparents Ray and Iva Mae Richardson and Bill and Azure Good, and brother, David Good. Those left to honor his memory include his wife Colleen Elizabeth Good of Shenandoah; sons David Terry, Matthew Lee Good, Aaron Wayne Good; grandchildren Dustin Lee Terry, Gabriel Daniel Terry, Noell Elizabeth Terry, and Jacob Samuel Terry, great-grandson, Logan Jack Terry, and mother Anna Belle Good. 017Delma Florence Russell was born August 12, 1923 in Estherville, Iowa, the daughter of Scott and Nellie (Camile) Marr. She passed away on Saturday evening, October 13, 2012 at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 1 day.
Delma grew up in the Superior, Iowa area and graduated from Superior High School. She later attended Iowa Lakes Community College and received her LPN training. She was married to George Howard Russell and the union was blessed with four children, James, Steve, Scott and Carolyn.
Delma worked as an LPN for over 40 years at the Hand Hospital in Shenandoah and Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, Iowa. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting, painting pictures, making jewelry and playing cards. Her true love was her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter Carolyn.

018Georgia Noladean Waldron was born March 31, 1935 near Essex, Iowa, the daughter of George Murrell and Virginia Geraldine (Wooden) Waldron. She passed away on Monday morning, October 15, 2012 at her home near Coin, Iowa following a lengthy illness at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 15 days.
Nodie grew up in southwest Iowa and was a homemaker all of her life. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Shenandoah and enjoyed cooking, baking and canning. Nodie also loved crafts and jigsaw puzzles. Her true love was her family, especially taking care of all her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Tommy Waldron, Robert Waldron, Gary Waldron, Phillip Waldron; and a nephew, Kevin Thomas.

019Robert Darwin McComb was born May 9, 1943 in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Art and Geraldine (Gillespie) McComb. He passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 69 years, 4 months and 25 days.
Bob grew up in Page County and graduated from Essex High School in 1961. On September 30, 1961 he was united in marriage to Berna Franks in Essex, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Melissa and Thomas. On April 22, 2000, Bob was married to Nancy Cosand at McComb Park in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Growing in the Essex area Bob enjoyed playing football with the guys. Following high school he farmed with his dad and brother, Dee. He operated the Legion in Essex, Iowa for over 25 years and did seasonal work with Farragut Ag. He enjoyed socializing with his patrons at the Legion and playing cards. He also enjoyed watching golf on tv. Bob’s true loved was his family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine McComb.

020Ronald Gene Nelson was born February 8, 1954 in Fairfax, Missouri, the son of Keith Eugene and Beatrice May (Stover) Nelson. He passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012 near Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 58 years, 7 months and 23 days.
Ron grew up attended school in Shenandoah. He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1972. He later attended C.E. School of Commerce in Omaha, Nebraska. On June 17, 1995, Ron was united in marriage to Cindy Lou Riley at the Baptist Church in Tarkio, Missouri. This union was blessed with two children; R’Donya and Torrey.
Ron worked for John Deere in Clarinda and later for Athen Implement in Hamburg, Iowa. For the past 14 years he worked for Pella Corporation in Shenandoah. He was a member of the Coin Fire & Rescue for many years and later joined the Shenandoah Rescue where he worked as an EMT. He loved to video tape church and school activities. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, welding and gardening. His true love was his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers-in-law, Darrin Riley and Donald L. Riley, II.

021Dale Steinhoefel was born January 18, 1926 in Humphrey, Nebraska, the son of George and Sylvia M. (Siphley) Steinhoefel. He passed away on Friday evening, September 21, 2012 at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 3 days.
Dale grew up in Nebraska and graduated from the Sheldon Academy in 1942. Following high school he served in the United States Navy. On October 18, 1986 he was united in marriage to Nora Williams in Emerson, Iowa.
Dale worked for the United States Postal Service for 25 years. He was a member of the American Legion and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. His true love was his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lois Days; and his step daughter, Kathy Blank.

Funeral services for R.D. "Dwain" Boyer, age 92, of Lenox, who died Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Vintage Park will be held Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lenox Christian Church. Ronald Dwain Boyer was born October 13, 1920, southwest of Lenox, Iowa the son of Chester A. Boyer and Edith (Preston) Boyer. He grew up attending country school at Grove No. 6, graduating from Lenox High School with the Class of 1938. R.D. then went on to attend AIB in Des Moines. He was a life-long Taylor County resident, living on the family farm where he was born, except the 43 months he served during World War II in the United States Coast Guard. When he was young he enjoyed showing cattle with his father.
On August 12, 1950, R.D. was united in marriage to Selma Liechti in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Two daughters were born to bless their lives, Nancy Eileen and Kay Susan. R.D. farmed, fed cattle and also worked for the Taylor County ASCS office for 22 years. After his retirement from the ASCS office, Dwain faithfully worked for the Ritchie Funeral Home for 15 years. Alan and Kristi were honored to serve the families of Lenox with R.D. by their side.
R.D. was an 85 year member of the Lenox Christian Church where he faithfully served in numerous capacities. He was a member of the Parkinson American Legion Post No. 258; and was a member of the Tremont Masonic Lodge #343. R.D. had been an active Mason for over 65 years. He had also been active in the Shrine and Eastern Star. R.D. truly enjoyed people and took great pride in his work. He enjoyed driving and traveling around the United States. He and Selma were able to visit all 50 states. They also enjoyed camping and taking bus trips. R.D.'s pride and joy was always his family.
In 1988, when R.D. and Selma moved into Lenox, he acquired two more daughters, Kelly Freshour and husband Kyle, and Paula Borland and husband Tom and their children, Kylie, Ben and Samantha. It was due to the efforts of these two families that R.D. was able to remain in his home for as many years as he did. In May of this year, R.D. moved to Vintage Park where he was lovingly cared for until his death.
Left to cherish the memories of a wonderful father, grandfather and friend are his two daughters, Nancy Allenbrand and husband Jay of Bolivar, Missouri; and Kay Ambrose and husband Allen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; one grandson, Jeff Allenbrand; two granddaughters, Courtney Kossow and husband Jon and Allison Berkland and husband Matt. He was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Ella and Tyler Kossow who brought so much joy into his life. A niece, Linda Heyne and husband Terry of Conway, South Carolina also survive along with many other relatives and a whole community of friends.

Tina Marie (Dunn) Donaldson, daughter of Jim and Janet Dunn was born July 19, 1964 in Kansa City, Missouri. Tina grew up in Clarinda, Iowa where she graduated from the Clarinda High School in 1982. Tina furthered her education at Northwest Missouri State University graduating in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in accounting. Tina was baptized in April 1976 at the First Christian Church in Clarinda where she also attended Sunday school, church, and Chi Rho youth group. Tina was blessed with two children, Andrew James and Eric Wayne. Tina raised her family in Farragut, Iowa where they moved to in 1995.
Tina was employed at the Shenandoah Medical Center as a billing clerk for the last 15 years; as well as worked for the Admiral Inn, Farragut, Iowa for her dear friend, Janet Burkhiser on Saturdays. Tina enjoyed her job and co-workers, with whom she developed many friendships. She also loved visiting with the dialysis patients. This is where many found Tina to be a very caring and open-hearted person. She always had a bright beautiful smile and would continue to offer her love and support to others even if she did not have much to give herself. Tina enjoyed all genres of music and especially dancing. She attended several concerts with family members and friends. She also enjoyed working on crafts; which she would give to others. She most importantly found the most joy playing with her two granddaughters, Abigaille Souix and Tannia Destiny.
Tina was preceded in death by Grandmothers, Lois Boardman, Mildred Dunn and Uncle Barry Boardman.

Harvey Chappel Karg, son of Robert J. Karg and Blanche Belle (Chappell) Karg was born July 8, 1925 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. He was from a large family with five brothers and four sisters. The family lived in Missouri and South Dakota before moving to the New Market/Gravity area in the early 1930's. He attended Frog Valley School and New Market High School. Harvey served in the United States Army during World War II. He was stationed at Lete and Mindino Phillipians and Iwo Jima Japan.
Harvey returned to Clarinda following his discharge and managed the DX Gas Station. On October 22, 1947, he was united in marriage to Geneva Wright at Lincoln, Nebraska. They were blessed with two children, Richard and Barbara Jean. In 1951, they rented a farm in the Bedford area and returned to Clarinda in 1969. Harvey worked at Wilson's Meat Packing Plant as a meat process until his retirement in 1987.
Harvey was a member of the Methodist Church, Bedford, Iowa. He was also a member of the V.F. W. Harvey enjoyed gardening and had a green thumb when it came to his flowers. He also enjoyed woodworking and traveling; especially the trips that he and Geneva and their family had. His family was his passion and his greatest joy was to be with them.
Preceding Harvey in death were his parents; wife, Geneva (3/24/2008); brothers, Alvin, Homer, Clifford Karg; sisters, Lolabelle Hughes, Juanita Weaver and Thelma Snow.

Celebration of Life Services for Merl Stockwell age 85 will be Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at 3:00 PM at the Ritchie Funeral Home in Bedford. Merl Dean Stockwell was one of two children born to Frank and Edna (Champlin) Stockwell on November 11, 1926, in the small town of Thedford, in Central Nebraska.
The family moved to the Council Bluffs area and Merl met and Married Virgie M. Gilbert on February 19, 1952, in Logan, Iowa. Together they raised three children of whom they were very proud – Jimmy Lee, Donna Ann and Steven Allen.
Merl spent his early years working in the roundhouse for the Chicago Northern Rail Road in Council Bluffs. He served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. After returning home he and Virgie purchased 40 acres of farmland outside of Council Bluffs. They moved to the country and enjoyed the out of doors, raising cattle, hogs, chickens and goats. The corn that they raised was picked by hand. Their farm was a busy place with friends and family stopping by and was known as the best place around to make root beer!
While Merl was working two jobs - at the rail road and Standard Oil in Council Bluffs he was transferred to Bethel, Kansas. The family sold their farm and purchased a new split level home. But, the lure of the farm was in his blood, and in 1966, they purchased a farm in Conway, Iowa and he was once again a farmer. Knowing not a single person in Taylor County, Merl and Virgie soon made friends with neighbors and the community.
Merl and Virgie retired from farming in 1987, and moved to Bedford. They spent time traveling in their motor home, wintering in Arizona, fishing, helping Steve on the farm, enjoying grandkids and the great grandkids and making friends far and wide. Merl was known as a prankster and enjoyed laughter and a good visit. He was always ready to go when Dennis would stop by and want to go mushroom hunting.
Virgie died in 1999 after a lengthy illness. Merl was blessed with a second special friend, Betty Kissel who shared his hobbies of fishing, camping, country music shows and picking up and harvesting black walnuts. He was a kind man who left this earth on a sunny day doing what he enjoyed – helping at the farm.
Left to cherish his memory are his special friend, Betty Kissel, a son, Jim Thomas and wife Gayle of Warner Robins, Georgia; a daughter, Donna Kernen of Bedford; daughter-in-law Glenda Stockwell of Bedford; Grandchildren Johnny Thomas, Ricky Thomas, Danny Kernen, Justin Kernen, Tina McMillin and Mikel Stockwell; six great-grandsons and three great granddaughters along with many other family and friends.

Lillie Ellen (Million) Longfellow was born August 25, 1930, in Troy, Iowa the daughter of Clifford Allen Million and Barbara Ellen (Padget) Million. Lilly grew up in Taylor County, graduating from Sharpsburg High School with the Class of 1948. She then attended Teacher's College in Maryville, teaching country school for one year in Taylor County. She went on to teach in Ringgold County at the Athens Country School, then on to Kellerton teaching 5th and 6th grades for several years. Later she taught in Elleston for a year before moving to Gladbrook to teach, then Marshalltown, Jefferson and then moved to Lenox in 1968 where she taught Remedial Reading for the elementary and high school, retiring her teaching career in 1989.
On August 16, 1968, Lillie was united in marriage to Howard Blake in Maryville, Missouri. Lillie and Howard enjoyed living on the farm. Howard passed away in June of 1997. On July 23, 1997, she was united in marriage to Marvin Longfellow in Burlington, Iowa. Together they enjoyed traveling around the United States. Lillie especially enjoyed wintering with Marvin in Alamo, Texas. While wintering in Texas, Marvin started painting and Lillie developed a great appreciation for art.
Lillie was a member of the Sharpsburg Untied Methodist Church, she was also a member of the N.E.A. and L.E.A. She was nominated by N.E.A. as an outstanding teacher for the Title One Reading Program in 1985. She enjoyed traveling around Iowa presenting her teaching methods to various groups. Lillie was a wonderful seamstress and loving anything that could be sewn! She created many beautiful quilts over the years. After she and Marvin were married, she thoroughly enjoyed learning to play the bass and looked forward to playing bluegrass and old country music together. Lillie always had a large vegetable garden and was a hard worker. Whether it was teaching, gardening or sewing, she possessed an ability to make even the hardest job seem simple.

Lewis (Mike) Rice was born June 17, 1919, in rural Mount Ayr, Iowa the son of Douglas Rice and Minnie (Minnick) Rice. He grew up attending several country schools, graduating from Diagonal High School with the Class of 1938. Mike played on the 1938 Diagonal State Champion Basketball team. He proudly served in World War II in the United States Army Air Corps as a medic. He was a farmer all of his life and spent the last 64 years on his farm 4.5 miles south of Lenox. Mike was united in marriage to Daisy Huntsman on November 24, 1946, and they raised three children. Eighteen years after Daisy passed away, he married Leola (Peg) Huntsman Kountz on October 29, 1995.
Mike loved children and took great pride in keeping his great-grandchildren. His favorite time was with family on Sunday mornings with his coffee, homemade bread and jelly and cookies and he was never in short supply!

Roberta Maxine (Chandler) Rusco was born in Eagleville Missouri on January 6, 1919 the daughter of Vernon Chandler and Viola (Booher) Chandler.
On August 11, 1938, Maxine was united in marriage to Leonard Rusco. They farmed all their lives living mostly in Taylor County. To this union three children were born Marilyn, Lowell and Patricia. Maxine loved being a housewife, she enjoyed working with her husband on the farm and she liked to garden and crochet.

Virginia Belle (Knoy) Newby was born November 22, 1918, in Eminence, Indiana, the daughter of Everett Knoy and Malanta (Murphy) Knoy. She grew up in Eminence, graduating from Eminence High School with the Class of 1937. She met Murray Fred Newby, a young man who lived down the street, and the couple were united in marriage on October 3, 1943. They were blessed with two sons, Donald and Steve and a daughter who died at infancy.
Virginia and Murray farmed while living in the Indianapolis area for many years. Virginia retired in the fall of 1989. Their son Steve purchased a farm in the Gravity, Iowa area and the couple decided to move to the Gravity area to be near their family. Virginia enjoyed flowers, baking cakes and always looked forward to attending the Indiana State Fair. She loved getting together with her girlfriends and going out to eat. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were always her pride and joy! Virginia also enjoyed playing the piano.

Elma Agatha Beemer died September 29, 2012, at the Bedford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bedford, Iowa, at the age of 100.
Agatha was born in Mitchell, South Dakota, on March 25, 1912, to Russell and Adah (Casteel) Farrens, the third of six children. Their family lived in various places throughout the Midwest, settling in southwest Iowa. Agatha attended most of her elementary school years in Hawleyville, Iowa; she attended Clarinda High School for three years then attended New Market High School her last year to earn her Normal degree in 1929 so she could become a teacher. She had many stories of 'Old Captain,' the ornery horse she and her siblings rode to school.
She taught in one-room country school houses until 1934 when she married Horace H. Beemer on April 21, 1934.
Horace and Agatha made their home in Gravity and later Bedford, Iowa, and had five children: Jack Stanley, Judith Kay, Janet Eileen, James Robert, and Jo Ellyn. Agatha was a full time homemaker until 1957 when she started teaching elementary school in Bedford, Iowa. She loved teaching kindergarten and decorated Christmas cookies for her students every year. Those years from 1957 to 1965, Agatha also attended college classes and earned her B.S. degree.
Retiring in 1970, Horace and Agatha started an antique business. They enjoyed attending auctions and refinishing old pieces of furniture. They also became 'snowbirds' spending winters in Harlingen, Texas, for 20 years, where they made many friends.
Family was the center of her life and she always had enough food for 'one more' when her children brought friends home from school. She could whip up a great meal for a crowd in record time! She was an excellent cook, seamstress, and could beat most anybody in a game of cards. Agatha was blessed with the gift of graciousness that made her home a welcoming place for all who entered.
Agatha was a member of Fortnightly Club, BPW (Business and Professional Women), Eastern Star, Rainbow mother advisor, United Methodist Church, and numerous bridge clubs.
Preceding Agatha in death are her parents; siblings Lee (Hazel), Don, (Ethyl) Faith (Paul Stephens), Kenneth; Horace, son Jack, son-in-law Jim Mathew, and grandson Joseph Adams.

Steven Allen Stockwell was born July 9, 1956 to Merl and Virgie (Gilbert) Stockwell, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. His family moved to a farm in Conway, Iowa and he graduated from Bedford Community School with the Class of 1974. After High School, Steve spent several years working as mechanic and shop foreman at Tri-Tractor in Clarinda, Iowa. This began his love for all things blue, especially tractors and clothing! It's also when he developed the habit of always carrying a pen in his pocket T-shirt.
Steve married Glenda Cassavaugh in July of 1976 and together they began the farming operation that Steve was so very proud of. They were blessed with two children; Tina Marie in 1977 and Mikel Allen in 1979. Steve loved working on the farm with his family, and they all participated in chores, tractor work, machinery repairs and the simple joys of both labor and fun. Steve enjoyed trying new techniques on the farm, he was intrigued by GPS and most recently experimented with planting cover on row crop acres under the guidance of his neighbor, Paul Ackley.
Steve loved the muscle cars of the late 60's and 70's, owning both an Olds 442 and a Hurst Olds. He was proud to have helped both of his children restore their first cars before they finished high school -- Tina a 1971 Mustang and Mikel a 1973 Mustang.
Steve enjoyed people. It didn't matter so much where you came from or what your social standing was, if you were honest with him he in turn respected you and counted you as a friend. He believed that being a friend means it's a lifelong commitment and that true friends are precious.
Steve was a board member and then president of the Taylor County Fair Association. He spent several years working along the side other volunteers to bring improvements to the livestock barns and other areas of the fair.
Steve enjoyed family first, then farming and life in the slow lane in Taylor County. Steve and Glenda were truly blessed when Jason and Kim joined the family. Their presence made our family whole! Yet, he was always up for an adventure or challenge whether it was a trip to the Rose Bowl Parade, a Sunday morning drive through Manhattan, NY without a map, jumping in to undertake the building of Glenda's office and the Hardin Clinic, driving support for the RAGBRAI riders, a quiet drive for a crop check or to look at the new baby calves, searching Omaha for a place to dance or taking a lesson on the aerodynamics of flying coasters. He faced life with a smile, and often times a 'cold one' with friends to share life stories.
Steve was originally diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in 1994. He struggled through many challenging medical issues since that time, most related to the autoimmune system and a recurring malignant thymoma. He developed the characteristics of Paraneoplastic Syndrome in the Spring of 2012, and soon lost this final battle. He received excellent medical care over the years from Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and St. Francis Hardin Clinic in Bedford. He developed close personal relationships with many of his doctors and nurses and credits his good life to their diligent care and compassion.

Naomi was born on April 3, 1927 in Taylor County Iowa, to Dallas and Ethel Howes. Some of Naomi's fondest memories were of growing up with her eleven brothers and sisters. Naomi attended country school and graduated from Bedford High School in 1945. On June 3, 1945 she married Kenneth L. Moore in Kansas City, Kansas. Kenny and Naomi made their home in Bedford and Naomi worked at the Galey Grocery Store. In 1957 Naomi became a mother when their son Kelly was born.
In 1961 Kenny and Naomi purchased the Western Auto Associate Store and they worked side-by-side for the next 22 years running the business. Both Naomi and Kenny enjoyed making their float for the annual July 4th parade and decorating the store for the Christmas season.
After retiring from their business, Naomi and Kenny enjoyed spending time traveling and taking care of their yard and home. In 1995 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with friends and family.
After Kenny's death in 1996 Naomi continued to live at her home in Bedford. In February 2006 Naomi moved into an assisted living facility in Cedar Rapids.
Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny; her parents, Dallas and Ethel; brothers Dallas Jr. and Benjamin; and sisters Crystal Ames, Marilyn Bradley, Anita Hall and Linda Hull. She is survived by her son Kelly, daughter-in-law Janice, her grandchildren Kristin and Kevin, brothers David and Richard, and sisters Lois Young, Ruth Marsh and Jeanne Kirk.
Naomi's last years were affected by Alzheimer's Disease, a devastating disease that robs it victims of their memories, identity, and dignity. Roy Robert Beck was born in rural Lenox on March 20, 1921; he was the son of Charles and Mildred (Herbst) Beck. He was raised and attended country school in rural Sharpsburg. On October 13, 1943, he was united in marriage to Darlene Sparks. Four children were born into this union; Judy, Rick, Terry, and, Robert. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1944-1946. After living on the farm west of Sharpsburg, IA for most of their lives, Roy and Darlene moved to Vintage Park in Lenox and then Roy moved to Clearview Home for a short time in Mount Ayr, IA where he passed.
Roy and Darlene wintered for twenty-two winters in Texas where he enjoyed playing shuffle board and visiting with friends. Roy also enjoyed collecting antiques, shooting guns, and hunting. He enjoyed hunting so much that the first day of pheasant season for Roy could have been a national holiday. Roy was a member of the Sharpsburg Methodist Church, American Legion, Eastern Star, and Masons.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Darlene Beck of Lenox; his children: Judy (Richard) Lucht of West Des Moines, IA, Rick (Bertie) Beck of rural Sharpsburg, IA, Terry (Julie) Beck of rural Sharpsburg, IA; his grandchildren: Amanda Weakland, Michael Lucht, Brian Beck, Jason Inman, Chris Inman, Carrie Wood, Keisha Crombaugh, Clayton Beck, and Blythe Beck; his seven great-grandchildren; and many remaining family and friends.

Esther Runyan, 88, passed away Sept 13, 2012, at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda, Iowa.
She was born February 25, 1924, to George and Jennie (Wylie) Farquhar in their farm home between Coin and College Springs, Iowa. After graduating from Amity High School in 1941, she attended Tarkio College for two years to obtain a teacher's certificate. She taught 40 pupils in three grades for one year in Clearfield, Iowa, and then taught three years in Atlantic, Iowa. On June 14, 1947, she married Ivan Runyan. They purchased the farm where Esther was born and lived there for the next 59 years and raised their children Dan, Carolyn, Martha, and Randy. During this time she served many roles in the College Springs Presbyterian Church and was a substitute teacher in the South Page schools. Other activities included the neighborhood Sunshine Club and the Page County 4-H Council. For her family, she managed a large vegetable garden, fruit trees, a flock of 200 chickens, and flowers around the home. She also sewed for the family and herself, including the beautiful dress in her picture.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents George Farquhar and Jennie Wylie Farquhar, brother Richard Farquhar, sister Beth Cooper and husband Ben Cooper, sisters Marian Farquhar and Virginia Burch, brother in law Glen Runyan, son in law Claude Dawkins, and infant daughter Martha Jean.
She is survived by sister in law Grace Farquhar of Loveland, Colorado, brother in law John Burch of Norridge, Illinois, brother in law Walter and Rosemary Runyan of Elgin, Illinois, brother in law Don and Bessie Runyan of Gravette, Arkansas, brother in law Wayne and Vena Runyan of Westminster, Colorado, sister in law Thelma and Steve Young of Plano, Iowa. Also surviving are her children and their families Dan Runyan and Chris Lohry of Lincoln, Nebraska, Carolyn Dawkins of Shenandoah, Iowa, Martha and Randy Towne of Lafayette, Colorado, and Randy Runyan and Peng Xi Ping of Beijing, China. Marie Helen Spillman Curtis, age 92, of Corning, Iowa died on Thursday, September 13, 2012. She was the daughter of Earl Spillman and Helen Cady Johnson Spillman, born on December 25, 1919 at Gordon, Nebraska.
Marie was united in marriage to James Charles Curtis on October 20, 1934 in Shenandoah, Iowa. The couple first started farming in Nodaway, Iowa where James Garry was born in 1937. Shirley Elizabeth was born in 1940 and Dianne Lee in 1942. Charlie and Marie moved to Ellston, Iowa in 1944 where Luanne was born in 1946. The family then moved to the family farm at Guss, Iowa and Brian was born in 1950, where the family lived until 1956. From 1956 to 1960 they lived in Tucumcari, New Mexico where Marie was a waitress at the Ramada Inn and the Holiday Inn. In 1960 the family returned to their farm at Guss where they lived until their return to Tucumcari in 1971 after Charlie became disabled. Charlie passed away in 1975.
When Marie retired she helped as many as seventeen "shut-ins". Marie would take them homemade cookies and would run errands for them. She was very active in her church and made a two-week mission trip to Brazil in 1981 through her church. Every year Marie enjoyed spending time with her sister Jean and husband Poly tracing genealogy.
In April of 2007, Marie moved to Massena, Iowa and resided with her daughter Luanne and son-in-law Larry Johannes.
Marie was known for her love of family and friends, pies and especially her love for her Lord and Savior. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Corning, Iowa. She always had a large garden in Iowa to feed her family and did a great deal of canning of vegetables and fruits in Iowa and New Mexico.
Marie is survived by her son, Jim and Carolyn Curtis of Corning, Iowa; daughters: Shirley and Ron Metzger of Holiday Island, Arkansas, Dianne Meeks of Tucumcari, New Mexico, Luanne and Larry Johannes of Massena, Iowa; son, Brian Curtis of Harvard, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Myrtle Johnson and Ruth Spillman; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
