First Speed
Regulations
The younger
generation imagines we had no speed regulations in Monroe county
until the advent of automobiles. When the covered bridges were
built in 1857-58 this warning was posted on each of them:
“Twenty-five
dollars fine for driving through this bridge at faster than a
walk.”
