LOCATION

This institution is located at Middle Grove, Monroe County, Missouri. Middle Grove is a quiet little country town of about 200 inhabitants. It is situated about 10 miles East of Moberly, and five miles from Evansville, which is on the M., K. & T. Railroad. A hack runs daily (except Sundays) to the latter place, thus giving us a daily mail and a daily transportation. The College is one-half mile from the Harris Springs. These Springs are second to none in the State for medical properties and the famous cures they have effected. The people of the town and surrounding country are moral and religious. They are awake to the demands of a higher education and are willing to lend their influence and means to secure a better and purer civilization. This is demonstrated from the fact that they contributed no less than four thousand dollars to the establishment of this College, besides lending their aid and influence in many other ways.

For health and attractive surroundings, Middle Grove cannot well be surpassed.

THE BUILDING

The building is a large two-story frame structure, consisting of eighteen rooms and four large halls. It is so constructed as to be well lighted and ventilated. The rooms are large and neatly finished, and all are supplied with new furniture.

THE GROUNDS

Consisting of twelve acres of land, are beautifully covered with grass and forest trees. We know of no place that affords a more healthful and attractive location.

PRACTICAL EDUCATION

We desire to emphasize this phase of our work. No young man or woman is prepared to enter any profession who has not some knowledge of a business education.

This is an age of push and electricity. The young people of today must keep abreast of the times or else get left behind.

What we want is more reality and not so much theory.

Hence we are prepared the coming year to give thorough instructions in a complete business education, type writing and shorthand, besides the regular college course.

A literary society has been organized in the school, from which untold benefits are derived. All students of the college course are expected to participate in the society work, and they are expected to pay 5 cents each per month as society dues.

We know of no better way for persons to learn to make a practical use of their education than to be an active worker in a literary society.

NORMAL TRAINING

A number of pupils are expected, who desire to become teachers. For the benefit of these, a scientific and comprehensive course of study will be given: embracing the latest and best methods of our modern educators, as well as the best thoughts upon the subject of education in former times.

While we are putting before our pupils the thoughts of others, we shall, at all times, endeavor to develop in them originality of thought.

LIBRARY DEPARTMENT

A splendid library has been established at the college, and a library association organized which will be a perpetual means of supplying new books. Students have free access to all books of the library while in attendance at school, and during the summer vacation, subject to the rules of the association. They are thus brought into communication with the best authors and made conversant with the best and the purest literature.

MUSICAL DEPARTMENT

We are prepared to give an excellent course in music, both vocal and instrumental. Vocal music will be taught in the regular course of study. Instrumental music will be extra. Pupils can also secure a thorough drill in voice culture, if desired.

BUSINESS COURSE

We have been induced by the urgent demands to add a Business Department.

A complete course in this will include

Book-Keeping          Business Practice

          Business Penmanship        Letter Writing

                    Practical Grammar          Commercial Law

                             Business Forms             Business Arithmetic

                                       And Customs               Practical Spelling

Students can enter at any time, and can take any or all of the above branches in connection with the regular college course; or, if they desire, they may take strictly a business course, which can be completed in from five to eight months, depending altogether upon the advancement of the pupil when he enters.

We can give a course as thorough as any business college, besides the pupils have the advantage of taking this in connection with the regular college course, the two costing but little more than simply a business education from a commercial college. Tuition in this course, five dollars per month, or thirty dollars if completed in seven months or less.

SHORT-HAND AND TYPE-WRITING

We have also added to our college department a course in shorthand and type-writing.

There is now a growing demand in the business circles in our cities for stenographers and those who are good operators upon a type-writing machine, or a caligraph. The tuition is $2.50 each per month, or $5.00 for both.

Students who graduate in any of these departments will receive a nice diploma.

Students should take notice to the fact that any or all the studies in the business department, as well as short-hand and type-writing, can be worked up at odd times and at spare moments, while they are taking a regular college course, so that upon leaving school they will be fitted to enter the most lucrative positions in business.
