Kirtley School News

“The Kirtley school completed their first months work Friday, Sept. 15^th. Those who have not missed a day of school are as follows: Anna Mae and Ruby Fay Gwyn, Mary Katherine Farrell, Virginia Ann, Henry, and Brameul Johnston. 

The little White twins and Ruby Fay Gwyn are our beginners this year. We are having a hard time telling the twins apart.

We are having a tooth brushing contest. Nearly everyone is very careful to brush their teeth before coming to school.

We are also having a “Better English” contest. Brameul Johnston and Lawerence Hamblin are our captains. Brameul’s team are: Mary Katherine Farrell, Anna Nell Hendren, Anna Mae and Ruby Fay Gwyn, James Lawrence, and Norene White. Lawerence’s team: Henry and Virginia Ann Johnston, Lucille and Lorene White, Mattie Lee Palmer and Miss Isabelle.

Before school started, Mrs. Hattie Farrell, Mary Katherine Farrell, Mrs. Pearl Gwyn, Ruby Fay and Anna Mae Gwyn cleaned our school house for us. We surely appreciated their hard work.

The school district is furnishing free text books for the school this year. 

All of the pupils are proud of their notebooks. The little folks are making notebooks about animals. The fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh grades are making health notebooks.

The seventh grade boys have memorized the very interesting poem, “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer to a perfection. Lucille White has memorized the 23^rd psalm of the Bible.

The fourth grade girls are finding it quite amusing to draw maps for their Geography class.

Because of rainy weather we did not have our ice cream supper last Thursday night. We are planning to have it this Thursday night. We assure you, you will have a good time and plenty of good ice cream and cake for a dime.

We are planning to have music for your entertainment. Everyone is cordially invited to come.
