Black School at Granville According to an interview with Mr. Hayes King there was also a colored school located beyond the old mill across the creek in front of Charlie King’s home. It was in operation during the early days of the community. It was a small building with one room. IT was maintained by the Blacks of the community. It was often affected by high water of Otter Creek which would float the building around. After the high water receded, the men would gather and turn it around and clean it up so school could continue as usual. The school closed when the Black population declined. |
