The Hardwick-Cumley Family
Photo Album |
Sanford Edmond Cumley and Pleasant Ann Hardwick were
first generation born Monroe Countians. Most of their respective
families had migrated from Madison County, KY in the early 1830s;
Sanford was the son of Hiram and Nancy Jane (Mattox) Comly and Pleasant
was the daughter of Edmond and Elizabeth (Gentry) Mattox. Sanford
and Pleasant were married in Monroe County on Christmas Day in 1883. They
resided in the Stoutsville area of Monroe County until 1899, when they
moved to Colorado; family members later recalled that some of the trek
west was made in a type of covered wagon. This Cumley family
eventually settled in Yuma County, Colorado where descendants live
today.
