Civil War Veterans of Monroe County

There is no known record that identifies all the Monroe Countians who served in the Civil War. The following list attempts to identify Union soldiers, Civilians and those participating individuals whose specific affiliation is not known. It was compiled using both official and unofficial sources, including Sons of Confederate Veterans rosters, various cemetery listings and web postings.

The 1884 History of Monroe and Shelby Counties stated "up to December 31, 1863, Monroe County had furnished 41 men for the regular United States service; in the Missouri State Militia, 38. Under calls previous to December 19, 1864, Monroe County furnished 474, being 7 more than her quota. Under call of December 19, 1864, the county furnished 134. There was no deficiency under the draft."

Although every effort has been made to identify these veterans, the compiled information may be duplicative or inaccurate; corrections, additions and related contributions are welcomed.
