We are looking for information on James Yowell family and their connection to
other Yowells in your area. The two year old son,Charley, in the 1880 census is
the grandfather of a couple of researchers. I don't think the family is
any near connection to my Yowells down in Phelps Co. (Do you know how rare
that name is in the rest of the country - except for KS, MO, NE, and VA?)
The family would be happy to provide information on the history of Charley's
life and family. They (& I) are among the rat race crowd so they don't
have much time for research. Thank you for your time.

I recently discovered that my Powers ancestors left Greenup Co., Ky for Monroe
Co., Mo. I think the earliest ancester was Richard Dean Powers abt. 1831
with his wife Harriet, along with his sister Polly married to Thomas Poage,
Elizabeth married to Edmund Damrell.
I found a sale for indebtedness in Greenup by James Powers and his wife Sally
and I believe Richard Dean Powers was his son. There are too many Powers
in Monroe and I'm having troubles sorting them out! Is anyone else
researching this family? I would love to exchange information.
Thank you.

My wife is a descendant of the Enochs and Swindell lines in Monroe County.
Also, Davenport, Gritton, Riley, and perhaps others. I have collected some
interesting information recently, including a "History of Madison"
written in 1920, author unknown, and a partial? listing (100 tombstones) of the
Swindell Cemetery. I have a few puzzles in my Enochs line and I would like
to exchange info with others working on these lines.

Would like to have family origin of Buell/Bealle as listed in cemetery records,
relating to family ancestors. Would also like to know if a Joseph Martin
Roby is listed in cemetery records. Have reason to believe he is buried in
St. Stephens Cemetery. Would have been buried approximate year 1859. Rest
of ancestors buried at Clinton Cemetery. Would like any information you
may have regarding these two matters.
Have done extensive Robey/Roby family research. Have heard rumor of some
earlier graves located in St Stephens Cemetery to have been lost due to
extensive flooding back in the late 1800's. Thank you very much for you
time and effort.

I am originally from Moberly, MO but currently reside in Riverdale, GA. My
cousin and I have been in the process for sometime trying to trace our
grandfather's family. We learned from Rev. L. B. Troy before his death that he
and our grandfather, Elmer Hinton, Jr. and his brothers and sisters had
apparently grew up and attended the black school in, I believe, Paris,MO.
This would have been the early 1900's. Rev.Troy had provided a picture taken at
the school which I beleive is now hanging in the Monroe County Historical. I had
a copy of this picture but it was destroyed with other materials collected when
my car was stolen some months ago. So now I am back to square one. I
would appreciate any assistance that you might be able to provide on my family.
We know almost nothing about my grandfather's family. Grandfather died in
Kansas City when my father was five years old, he is now 72. My dad is just as
anxious as we are in putting together these puzzle pieces of our family.
I thank you in advance for any assistance that you might be able to provide.
Thanks again.

I am looking for information on Dan and Hannah Quarles, Qurrells, Qualls, an
African American who lived in Monore/Ralls County, from as late as 1842 (maybe
earlier) through 1870. The Quarles were attatched to the John A. Quarles family
of Florida, Mo. Their son, James Harvey Quarles left Florida with Benjamin L.
Quarles when he moved to Henry County. Ben sold James Harvey to a Charley Guinot
or Guniot who took James to Madison County, Texas about 1861. In 1870 Dan and
Hannah and their younger children, Frank, George, Margaret and Mary lived in
Clay Township of Ralls, County. However by 1880 none of the Quarles can be found
on Missouri Census Records. James Harve Quarles lived in Madison County, Texas
until his death in 1842 and has grandchildren here in the Houston area. We would
like to find any information on the African American Quarles, and know if there
are any resources available specifically for African Americans. Our Quarles were
born in Virginia, so we are of course, interested in knowing if they came with
the white Quarles from Virginia via Tenn.
Are will, probate and settlement records available from the 1850's?
Are slave sale records available?
Were early African American Marriage Records maintained separate from
those of whites?
Were there many free blacks in the area prior to Civil War?
Are there manumission or freedom papers available at Court House?
Are there Quarles, black or white in area? Thanks.
(County Coordinator's note--If you can answer these questions, I too would be
interested for a new African-American webpage.)

I have a photo album which contains photos of the QUISENBERRY and BIGGS families
(possibly others) which lived in the Santa Fe area. Most of these photos
are from the period 1870-1920 and unidentified; but if someone was interested, I
would work with them to identify. My connection here is this: My great
grandmother's twin sister, Luella CHAPEL married Fred QUISENBERRY in Monroe Co.,
MO. abt. 1893. Fred and Luella had no children, so the album was passed
down on my line. Fred was the son of Phillip QUISENBERRY and
LucindaGeorgia Ann TANNER. Phillip was born in Clark Co., KY. 8 Dec 1835;
Lucinda was born 2 Oct 1839 in Santa Fe.
