Richard Larimore GREENSTREET, Buried in GAR section of Crown Hill Cemetery at Sedalia, MO. Private in Company I of the 29th Missouri Volunteer Infantry.Submitted by: Trueman Farris.

Jacob D. Helman: McGee Cemetery, Green Ridge MO b. 31 Jan 1834 Perry Twp.,OH; Recruited by future President James A. Garfield in Rowsburg, Ashland Co.,OH, served in the 42 Ohio Company D along with brother John R. and cousins John B. Helman and Elmer Helman; d. 29 Jan 1928 Green Ridge, Pettis Co.,MO    Robin Helman

Jordan Huff, enlisted in Co. K, 8th Regiment, Missouri Infantry Vol. served from fall or summer 1861 to spring 1863. His wife Angeline (Christian) filed for her pension after he died in Coweta, Oklahoma Indian Territory April 23,1903. They had married in 1858 in Morgan Co. Mo. He was on special 1890 census in Pettis Co. near Sedalia. He also was enlisted in Co. E 50th Illinois Infantry Vol from March 4,1865 to July 3,1865 when he was honorably discharged at Louisville, Kentucky. This last time he entered under an alias as William Bradshaw on his Soldiers Certificate from The National Archives #774078 he is listed under both names. Still haven't figuered out why. There is possibility he went in for cousin who also was William Bradshaw and he had 5 children at the time where Jordan only had 1. Jordan and Angeline's only daughter Sarah Jane (Huff) Carver is buried near Mounds, Oklahoma. Hopefully Jordan and Angeline are buried at Coweta, Oklahoma. He was my gr-gr-grandfather.    Sam Barrett

Peter Mueller was born at Lake Creek, SE Pettis Co, Mo in 1845.   His father, older brother, uncles, and cousins were all participants in the nearby Battle of Cole Camp in June 1861.  Perhaps feeling left out, Peter enlisted in Co K, 30th Mo Infantry at St Louis on 15 Aug 1862, at age 17.   Nine months later, his right arm was shattered by a musket ball at the Battle of Vicksburg, and amputated the same day.  He was discharged as an invalid 27 Feb 1864 at St Louis.  He farmed in NW Morgan Co, Mo after the war, retiring to Sedalia, Mo in 1884, where he died 1914; buried Crown Hill Cemetery.  (bro of my GGM)  H. R. Ficken

Alcorn, James Madison b. Howard Co., Mo. 12 June 1823. d. Sedalia, Pettis Co.,      Mo. 16 June 1895. Military Record: Mustered in as a Private at Clinton, Mo., 1 Sep 1862. Reenlisted in Co. M of the 1st Regiment of Iowa Cavalry Veteran Volunteers by Capt. Reynolds, at Little Rock, Arkansas on 5 Jan 1864. Became Corporal. Spent July & August of 1864 in the hospital at Benton Barracks, St. Louis, Mo. On sick leave to 31 Oct 1865. Received Medical Discharge at Benton Barracks, St. Louis, Mo. on 1 Nov 1865. Decendant

Richard T. Westbrook Farris; buried Union Cemetery, Heath's Creek Twp, Pettis County, Missouri.  Born April or May 24, 1833 in Cooper (Cole) County, Mo.  Married June 3 (or July 30) 1853 to Agnes Ann Elizabeth Walker in Moniteau County, Mo.  Richard died before 1890 in Pettis County.  He was a Confederate Soldier, serving in the Confederate Trans-Mississippi Army.  He enlisted 29 Aug, 1862 at Gromasiville, Mo., as a Private in Co. "A," Pindall's Battalion Sharpshooters (also known as the 9th Battalion Missouri Sharpshooters).  He was capture by the Union Army at Little Rock, Arkansas and became a prisoner of war September 10, 1863.  Richard was a prisoner until his release on March 4, 1865 and served out the rest of the war, which didn't last much longer.  He was a Private at his discharge.  He was my great great grandfather.  Paul Peoples.

Diedrich Keltner, is buried in High Point Cemetery at Hughesville. April 17, 1836-June 30, 1914.  He was attached to Company C, 5th Regiment, Missouri State Militia Cavalry, (AND "Captain Nolting's Co. (C), German Regiment, Missouri Home Guards," according to the "Index to Service Records of Volunteer Union Soldiers from Missouri [JOM-KEM]) For more information please check my web site  http://members.aol.com/ftnkid/henry.htm  . Thanks. Joe Gentile

Theodore Bloess and William Bloess from Sedalia, Missouri, Pettis County were brothers who were with the German division of the Union Army.  William was buried in Pettis County and Theodore was buried in Weisbaden, Germany.  Theodore was a captain who led the German division. Mary Wellendorff

Watson McDaniel was born June 4, 1840 in Pettis County, MO.  In 1861 he enlisted in the Missouri State Guard (McGuffin) and served for 13 months. He later joined Elliott's Battalion, Shelby's Brigade as a private in "E" Co. and served the Confederacy until Shreveport.  He fought in the Battles of Lexington, West Port, Mine Creek and Newtonia. He later lived in the Higginsville Confederate Home, where he died in 1925. Julie McDaniel

Alphonzo Hollenbeck.  He lived near Green Ridge, Pettis Co. during the Civil War.  His diary covers very well the gold rush, however, he seems to have lost his literary inspiration by 1861.  There are however, a few references in it that lead me to believe that he was involved in some sort of a militia or home guard.  In it, he recorded a list of the names of 68 men', along with their ages (see attached document). Though not dated, I have thought until now that this entry was made in late 1861 or early 1862.
Homer Ficken replied that:
1.  George McKinley (#4-main list) was born in 1834.
2.  Thomas Mason was born in 1820.
3.  Solomon Sandridge was a "pioneer" of LaMonte township.
4.  Willis P. King's parents were married in 1835.  He was their third child.
>From this I conclude that:
1.  For George McKinley to be 31 as reported, the list would have been written in approx. 1865.
2.  Thomas Mason was reported to be 44 at the time the list was written.  If born in1820, the date of the list would be approx. 1864.
3.  Solomon Sandridge is of little help as his age was indicated as "about 40".
4.  Willis P. King: 25 years plus 1835 = 1860, plus 1 year per child (3) = 1863 or  later.
The History of Pettis Co. published in 1882 (where Homer presumably found info on the four individuals cited) indicates that  "In October, 1861, he (Alphonzo) went into the army as wagon-master, serving in that capacity until 1863.
Perhaps by posting this list of names in pools that will be seen by their descendants, someone else may have info that will increase our understanding of the state of military affairs in Pettis Co.

p.s. For the record, I think that the History of Pettis Co. pub. 1882 is in error in reporting that Alphonzo Hollenbeck died in South America.  It is possible that he did die in Nicaragua, however, I strongly believe that he is buried in Los Angeles in Evergreen Cemetery. Respectfully, Rick Easter
