James A. FRANKLIN.  buried at Linden Cemetery (Mc Cracken Township), Christian Co., MO Born at Athens, Limestone Co., AL 22 Feb. 1828. He died 25 May 1911 in Christian Co., MO Served as a Private in Co. H. Phelps Regiment of the E.M.M. from November 1861 to May 1862. Also served with the 73 Regiment of E.M.M. under Capt. Fenex from Sept. 1864 to Mar. 1865. He lived in Taney Co., MO from abt 1853-1879 when he and family moved to Neosho Co., KS. my 2nd great-grandfather: Randy L. Franklin
John T Yates enlisted May 1 1861 in Stearns Division Winsons Regulars (Chrisman Co?.)  Missouri for a period of 6 months service.  He reenlisted in Springfield Missouri in the First Mississippi Confederate Cavalry in the Sir Gordon Regiment commanded by Eliza Gates. Martin Thompson
JEREMIAH CUTBIRTH:  Was a distant cousin of my ggg grandfather, Willis Ernin Cutbirath.  Jeremiah, along with his brother, Joseph, enlisted in Christian County as privates in Captain Nelson's Company E, Greene County Regiment, Missouri Home Guards, U.S. Army.  Jeremiah is also listed on the 1866 Special Greene County MO Militia, two different times...possibly due to changing units.  Nothing is known of his death as of yet. (Christian County MO) Civil War story of Jeremiah's mother Mary Ann, and a son or nephew, named Rad, or Padrick: from Lela M. Hall, Oldfield, MO, written on July 28, 1980, she relates: "I live in Christian County on Hiway T, east of Oldfield near Swan Creek on a farm that has been in my family since pioneering days.  Back before, and during the Civil War, a family of Cutbirths, consisting of an elderly lady, Mamma always spoke of her as Granny Cutbirth, and two daughters, Rose Ann, and a grandson called Rad.  There may have been more, but those four are all I know about.  Their home was located about four miles down Swan, south of where I live and is now owned by a family named Pierce."         "About the second or third year of the wars duration, Rad was suffering from an attack of the measles.  At that time the Springfield/Yellville Road followed a route leading south from my place down Swan via the Cutbirths, on to Forsyth thence to Yellville.  On this particular morning, cloudy, damp and foggy, I was told, a Company of the 2nd Arkansas Battalion was marching up this way, heading, I suppose, for Springfield or some point north.  As they passed Cutbirths, Rad got out of his bed and stood in front of the open door of their home for just a few minutes watching them go by.  This act threw him into an immediate relapse and by the following morning he was a corpse.  At the same time, Granny was ill with some malady.  If I ever knew what, I have forgotten, maybe old age.  Anyway during the same short interval she too passed on and they were buried on the same day in a little family graveyard on the farm."         "The little spot still remains, to an extent unmolested, by humans at least.  The ravages of time and wild animals have somewhat burrowed into the graves, but a few markers can still be found.  I've been told that originally there were twelve graves, but I've only been able to find three or four.  They were marked with polished cotton rock stones, but I wasn't able to see any writing or dates."      "I live on Hiway T, 3 miles east of Oldfield at the first bridge, Elkhorn Creek.  Take Hiway 125 to T.  To reach the Pierce place follow 125 to Chadwick then turn east on a country road." Same story, another source, taken from local research writings of Ralph and Lena Wills, local genealogists/historians, extraordinare.....Cutbirth Cemetery:  5 miles South, and still on Swan Creek, then about 3 miles East of Chadwick, across Swan Creek from Don Lawrence farm.  At one time it contained 9 graves.  The plots here are all marked with cotton rocks and if ever lettered, the lettering has washed away with time.  Two graves were placed here during the Civil War, and according to the descendants, are those of  Old Lady Cutbirth, and her grandson Rad. Both were buried the same day, and it was a day or two following the march of the 2nd Ark troops from Yellville Ark to Springfield M.  Nothing is known of the other graves.Jim Cochran, Camden Co MOGenWeb CC
