A brief history of the Shelmadine family. The first Shelmadine we know of now was Richard Shelmandine later Shelmadine. There are still Shelmandine's living in the same area where Richard lived.
There were various other spellings of the name, partly due to the census takers who often spelled names as they sounded to them, instead of proper spelling.
Nothing was known of Richard S. orhis family until the record of his marreage to Catherina Kiskern in 1774 at St. Paul's Evangelical Luthern Church, Schoharie, NY, Feb. 15.
This reecord states that:
Richard was born in England, May 1753
Catherina, his wife, born in Schoharie, NY, June 18, 1748.
Later, Richard was a sergeant in the Revolutionary War.!(Possible parents, not proven, of Richard were: William Shelmerdine, of Kennedy, died 1768 at age 60.
Ludia Shelmerdine, died 1769 at age 53. Both buried in Northenden Church, England.
