I am seeking information on the family of Elizabeth TRUITT,
believed to be the daughter of Tyre TRUITT and Sarah BURNS of Macon County.
Elizabeth was born 19 Nov 1856, she died 22 Nov 1885 and is buried in the White Cemetery at Ethel, Missouri.
She married Lewis J. LYLE on 17 Oct 1875 in Macon County. I have no further information on Lewis.
According to the 1880 census of Macon Co. Elizabeth and Lewis had two children:
1. William
2. Tyre
Lewis is not listed in the census and Elizabeth is listed as Lizzie LILE, her son Tyre is listed as "Pet."
I would welcome any information on either family.

I am also looking for information on the Morris STRAUSS family.
He married Clara MELHASE on Nov 17, 1869.

2. Agnes, b. 8-21-1875 in Macon Co.
3. Clara, b. 3-21-1878 in Macon Co.

Morris donated land for a schoolhouse in the New Cambria area.
In 1870, Morris was helping a neighbor build a barn in a bad storm and caught a cold. He died the following year, December 1880 from tuberculous.
Has anyone heard of a cemetery named Antioc or Antioch Cemetery?
I am trying to locate an old cemetery (Antioc Cemetery?) where Morris was buried.
Any information would be appreciated.

My great-grandfather, Marcus (later changed to John William) McCORMICK, was born in Macon Co. in 1859, probably in the area of College Mound.
By 1920-30, my great-grandfather had began to tell the story that he was either born in or moved to Floretta MO when he was a child.
Does anyone know of a village or an area of Macon/Randolph Counties known as Floretta in the 1860s?
Marcus had a geat-uncle, James FLORE, who owned land in the area. I suppose Floretta could derive from Flore.

I am looking for information on the descendants and ancestors of William HARRISON.
William was the son of John HARRISON and Elizabeth (?).
William was born January 23, 1806, Jones Co., North Carolina and died March 07, 1863, Atlanta, Macon Co., Missouri. He married Mary McDANIEL August 12, 1832.
My records indicate that they had thirteen children.

The only information I have on William's parents is that his father's name was John HARRISON and his mother's name was Elizabeth (Lastname Unknown). Elizabeth was born April 01, 1775, (Location unknown) and died April 02, 1866, Atlanta, Macon Co., Missouri.

Elizabeth came to Macon County, Missouri with her son William and his family.
There is no record of her husband John being in Missouri.
This was a very long and difficult trip for an elderly woman to make in wagons and oxcarts. She is buried at the Mount Tabor Cemetery near Atlanta, Macon County, Missouri.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am trying to find information on the Eben EDWARDS family.
In 1830 NY census, Eben was listed.
Eben was born, according to a family Bible, June 12, 1764 in Connecticut. He married a Sarah ? (last name unknown) she was born 10 Feb 1778. Eben died 16 Jan 1827 and Sarah died 17 Nov 1866.
The above Eben and Sarah were the parents of William Ogden EDWARDS, born July 23, 1805; he died 1881 in Illinois. There were other children of Eben and Sarah listed as John born 16 Sep 1807, died 19 Dec 1814; Sally born 24 Oct 1813, no date of death or marriage listed.
William Ogden was my GGGreatfather; my Grandmother HUFFMAN-ROBERTS was granddaughter of William's and often spoke of the wealth of the EDWARDS or miswealth never realized.
I found an Eben EDWARDS on the LDS listings as born 9 Jul 1774, Kent Twp, Litchfield, Connecticut. His father was Benjamin EDWARDS, mother Mary ?
Appreciate any help with my far away but so near genealogy search.
Thanks to you.

I am looking for the GEE family who had some connections to northern Ohio and the surname MADDOCK.
The MADDOCK would be my ggrandfather who went to Missouri because of relatives out there.
Family tradition says the relatives had a furniture business of some sort to employ ggrandfather. This would have been around 1890.
My line of MADDOCK and GEE came from Northamptonshire, England many years before.
Ggrandpa MADDOCK later married a Grundy Co. girl and later on returned to Ohio.
Does this fit anyone's family?

I have acquired several photographs of a MOSLEY family. The information on the back says; Father's sister the MOSLEY'S. The daughter's name was Laura and the son (unknown name) was an 18 year old preacher. This and 2-3 other photographs were made by J.H. Nichols & Bro. Photographic Studio, 31 Rollins Street, Macon, MO.

I am pretty sure this is my g-g-g-grandfathers (George F. HADEN) sisters (Bathilda HADEN) family although I do not know the MOSLEY gentleman that she married nor the names of the other 2 children (one boy, one girl) photographed.

The HADEN family lived in Macon for about 20 years. Apparently the MOSLEY family lived there as most of the photos of them are made from this Macon County photographer.

I would appreciate any help in identifying this family.

Captain POWELL was a sailor for 30 years, an Atlantic clipper ship captain for 10 years. He became a farmer in Macon County, Mo. in 1868. He was also a Justice of the Peace and one of the founders of the County.

He married Marijane A. GAMBLING on December 12, 1843. I have no other in- formation about her or her family.

They had 8 sons, but only 3 lived beyond childhood:

1. Robert H. POWELL, born June 16, 1858 and died May 1, 1945. He married Eleanor (Nell) CROSSING in Macon County on March 5, 1890.

2. Franklin Edwin POWELL, born March 12, 1862 and died November 25, 1951. He married Margrete CROSSING on October 10, 1900. They were my great-grandpar- ents. They also lived in St. Louis, Missouri and Birmingham, Alabama.

3. Thomas Horner POWELL born April 29, 1865 and married Mabel AUSTIN on Oc- tober 20, 1899 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

James POWELL died on November 26, 1894. His funeral took place at the Bethel Christian Church in Tenmile Township and he is buried in the "Sue City Cemetery" north of Anabel, Missouri. I have not been able to locate the church or the cemetery.

I am searching for information about my Grandfather, John BELLMIRE,
born in 1805, and his family in the 1860's living in Macon Co.
He md. Hannah _____ and they lived in Ohio where 7 children were born.
1. David
2. Barbara
3. Theadore
4. Mary
5. Lydia
6. Sarah
7. Henrietta.
I did find them in the 1850 census of Adams Co, Ill.
Shortly before 1850 they moved to Adams County Illinois.

Then Hannah died and the 1860 census showed John married to Emiline, but failed to mention some of the first set of children. It also showed Emiline had 4 children of her own, one of which was also a Sarah. George and Barbara were mentioned by then and from later records we know Daniel was born in 1861 in IL, then the family moved to Macon county, MO where Grand Father was drafted into the Union army.
There Sarah, Charlie, Jennie, Maggie (Margaret Melinda) and my Father, Henry, were born.
I need to know where in Ohio were the children born,?
Where was John Naturalized? Where in Germany was he born?
I know that David, Sarah and Barbara followed on to MO but where and what happened to the other children?

I have been to my Grandfather's grave site in the Bell cemetery in Macon Co.
Grandmother Emiline went to visit her folks in IL, and died there.
Their half sister Barbara raised Henry and his sister Maggie after the parents died.
Any information will surely be appreciated.

I would like to find records about Dad's half sister Barbara.
If we could find her married name, then perhaps we could find the ship record of her trip to Germany in the 1880,s.

Dad, Henry BELLMIRE, said he and the other brothers and sisters paid her way to go so she went to Germany and visited with others of the family still living there.
I did see a 1870 census of Macon Co. where the records had been put together from other records using the German spelling, BEUHLMEYER J.J. - wife Emeline and some of the children which I think is correct.

Thank you for any help with this.

Clarence R. SHIREY Mon Oct 11, 1999
Seeking information on the descendants of a brother to my Great Grandfater, Simon SHIRY, who would be my G. G. Uncle, namely: Solomon M. SHIREY, b. 13 Jan. or Feb. 1834, near Mayport - North Freedom area of PA. (Redbank Twp., Armstrong Co., PA.) He died 30 Nov. 1925, in the Soldiers Home, in Los Angeles, Calif. He married first on 1 April 1857, to Mary M. ALSBACH, b. ca. 1840 in Ohio. They were in Michigan, where he enlisted in the Civil War, and they have the first child buried at Centerpark E. U. B. Cemetery, located along Moorepark Rd., Michigan. She died 2 Sept. 1886, probably in the area of LaPlata, MO. and possibly the reason for his move, with discouragement of the land, losing another son, and if he lost his wife, I can certainly see how he'd desire new area to live! Where in the world is she buried?? The LaPlata Cemetery is huge, (I've been there years ago!)

Their children were as follows:

1. Anson Casey, b. 2 Nov. 1858, Park Twp., St. Joseph Co. Michigan. He died 17 Sept. 1861, per Gravestone, but per his Civil War papers he said 16 Nov. 1861. Anson is buried next to the Adam BLOOM Plot at E. U. B. Cemetery, Centerpark, MI. (The BLOOM'S son, Peter, md. Solomon's sister, Margaret Ann (SHIREY) is the reason here!)

2. Sarah Ellen, b. 17 Aug. 1861, who did she marry??

3. Otis D. b. 26 June 1865, and died 25 Sept. 1882, near LaPlata, MO. Where in the world is he buried?? (the family letter clearly says that he died here!)

4. Julia R. b. 2 Oct. 1867, who did she marry?

5. James E. b. 23 Sept. 1869, I'm told he never married and he lived in Los Angeles when his father died.

6. Lillie M. b. 20 Sept. 1871, who did she marry??

7. Hiram O. b. 10 May 1873, I'm told he too never married, where did he die and where is he buried??

8. Blanch O. b. 17 July 1875, apparently in LaPlata, Mo. per her mother's letters, who did she marry??

Solomon SHIREY, remarried 1 June 1888, (per his Military Records - Co. E, 11th Mich. Inf. Vol.) to Emma G. GRUBBER, possibly when he removed to Montana. What happened to her, he does not say!! He later married 21 Dec. 1909, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, to Hannah L. (HAVEN) NETTLETON, a widow, whom he met while living in the Soldier's Home in Orting, Washington.

He states that he lived 1865 -1880 in Michigan; 1880-1886 in Missouri; 1886-1899 in Montana, what town?? I found him listed in Mont. Military listings, but where?? ; 1899-1906 in Idaho, and 1906-1912 in Washington.

In an old letter (spelling as they wrote it!) dated 7 Apr 1883, LaPlata, Mo. from Solomon & Mary (ALSBACH) SHIREY, To his nephew, John J. BLOOM & Caroline (FOX) BLOOM, in Michigan, in part they state, He states "his health is not good, and I am getting old fast..." (trying to get his Military pension) "he has kidney deceise and diabetes, of wich I suferd from the time I was sent to the Hospitle in 1862, at Nashville Tenn." I am looking for a burial and death record for Emma HUBERT MILLER RIGLER.

She died between 1902-1903 in Monroe or Macon Counties in Missouri.
I found a partial obit written by Rev. M.L. HEIFNER in a journal of his that is in the Macon library.
Emma & Samuel RIGLER lived in the Woodlawn township of Monroe county, but I have reason to believe they attended the Baptist Church in Woodville.
Does anyone know if there are records of the church and cemetery?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am researching the family of Robert T. ELLIS and his wife Virginia Mary FORD,
md. 18 Sept 1838, in Barren Co., KY.
Virginia Mary was the daughter of Frances GRUBBS and John F. FORD, Sr. (1784-1838).

Robert ELLIS and Mary FORD had two children:

John E. (b.1840, KY) and Frances J. (b.1846, MO).

Mary FORD ELLIS died in Oct 1848 and is buried in Macon Co.(?)

Robert T. ELLIS and his new wife, Nancy Jane DALE of Randolph Co., MO, are listed in the 1850 Macon Co., MO census.
They lived in District 52, dwelling 29, family 31:
Robert ELLIS, age 32,
Nancy ELLIS, age 23,
John E. ELLIS, age 10,
Frances J. ELLIS, age 4,
and a new baby, William H. ELLIS, age 6 months.

In January of 1853, Frances FORD, the grandmother of John E. ELLIS and Frances J. ELLIS, died in Barren Co., KY.

Garland Hopkins FORD, the brother of Mary Ford ELLIS, was appointed guardian to John E. and Frances J. ELLIS, the children of Mary ELLIS, deceased. This action by the court left the impression that John E. and Frances J. ELLIS were orphans. I now know this is not true, since their father Robert T. ELLIS moved to Vernon Co., MO in Nov. 1866.

1. What happened to John E. and Frances J. ELLIS?
2. Are they on the 1860 Macon Co., MO census with their father?
3. Are they on the Vernon Co., MO census with their father in 1870?

I have not found them living with the FORDs in Barren Co., KY.
There are many ELLIS in Barren Co., KY, but I do not know if they are the kinsmen of Robert T. ELLIS.
Someone suggested his parents were Eleazer and Jane ELLIS.
Did this family come to Missouri also?

Your help would be appreciated.

Can anyone steer me to some help with the following?

My Great grandfather Joseph YETTER was a member of the G.A.R. Evans Post No. 341 of Macon Co. Mo. for an unknown period between 1866 & 1920. In April 1920, at the time of Joseph's Burial in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Macon Co., MO., the Post Commander was John McDANIEL.

Joseph was also a member of the G.A.R. (unknown Post No.) in Alva, Woods Co., Ok around 1910 to 1920.

Can anyone tell me if there are still GAR records? If so how can one obtain information about members?

Thank You.
