Obituary for Lewis C. Wright (1825-1905)

LEWIS C. WRIGHT died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ella TURNER, in St. Louis on the morning of August 28, 1905, after an illness of less than two days. He was visiting his daughter and intended to come home with his grandson, Fred HAVERKAMP, Saturday evening. When Fred called for him he was told that his grandfather had a chill and was then sleeping, and they thought it best not to disturb him. Sunday night a message was received here that he was quite sick. Mrs. HAVERKAMP started to go to him Monday morning, but on reaching Gilmore, she received a telegram that her father was dead. The body was shipped here Tuesday evening, and after services Wednesday morning at the residence of Henry HAVERKAMP, conducted by Rev. B. D. Kennedy, it was taken in charge by the Odd Fellows and laid to rest by them in the city cemetery.
Mr. WRIGHT was a native of Lincoln County, was born in Clark township, October 27, 1825. He was one of eight children of the late Jefferson WRIGHT, a noted Baptist minister in this county fifty years ago. His father died in September, 1867, and of all the children there is but one left, Mrs.Catherine MARTIN of Louisiana, who was a half sister of Mr. WRIGHT.
He left five children, Charlie WRIGHT, a leading druggist and citizen of Webb City, Mrs. H. E. HAVERKAMP, of this city, Mrs. Ella TURNER of St.Louis, and Will WRIGHT of Webb City. He also left a large number of grand-children and neices and nephews. Mr. WRIGHT was a man of much intelligence and kept well posted in current events. He had a remarkable memory and was a most interesting narrator of events in the early history of Lincoln Co.....(.much is missing j.g.)
