Obituary
Joseph L. WOODSON
The above much respected citizen of Troy, passed away at his home on Monday morning at 1 o'clock, calmly and peacefully like a child in slumber. He had been for several years failing in his health, this being much marked since the death of his wife three years ago. Mr. WOODSON was born in Lee Co., Virginia, June 11, 1818. He came to Lincoln Co. 60 years ago from eastern Tennessee, 50 of them being spent at Chain of Rocks, where he engaged in farming and also in the mercantile business. He removed from there ten years ago to Troy, where he resided up to his death, watched over and cared for by his faithful daughter, Lola, who was his constant nurse and companion since the death of his wife.
Of a family of 13 chldren eleven survive him, five sons and six daughters. Seven years ago he was converted to Jesus Christ under the preaching of H. C. Davis, an evangelist from Iowa, and united with the Christian Church of this town. Funeral services were conducted at the house and in the Christian Church by Elder G. F. Assiter. Thus has passed away an old and respected citizen and a good Christian, a man who enjoyed the respect and esteem of all who knew him, and, better still, the favor and love of God in whm he had a good hope through Jesus Christ. The following of the sons and daughters were present at the funeral W. A., H. J., ROBT. L., and J. E., Mrs. John SIMPSON, Mrs. Thos. CREECH, Mrs. Nellie SEALS, and Miss Lola, Mrs. W. G. MERSHON, of St. Louis and Mrs. M. C. BLANKS, of Moberly, were unable to attend.....(some is missing) G.F.
[Transcriber's Note: I take it to be G. F. ASSITER as he was well known in the Christian Church-Disciple arena -j.g.]
