From the papers of Mary Omahundro Hutt Walker
Fred WOODSON was born Jan, 14, 1888, died July 3, 1916, in St. Louis, Mo. of nephritis.
When about 12 years of age, he united with the Christian Church in Troy. The last few
years of his life, he was away from home. He took his last sickness in Los Angeles,
Cal., was in a hospital for about 8 weeks; his cousin, James WOODSON visited him and when
the doctors thought he was able to travel he started him home, but the trip was too long
for one in his condition and he lived only 10 days. ...He realized his condition and asked
his family members to pray for him and said, "Please Lord, forgive me for my sins; I
truly repent." The end was easy; he just fell asleep Monday afternoon at 5:30
o'clock.
The remains were brought back to Troy, Wednesday morning, accompanied by Rev. Luthur B.
Todd, pastor of Wagoner Memorial Church, his father, C. T. WOODSON, brothers BURT, ADLAI,
and DONALD and sister Miss MAUDE, Mrs. Fannie NELSON, Hugh SIMPSON, all of St. Louis and
John SIMPSON, of Potosi, Mo.
The funeral was preached at the home of P. A. KHUNE at 2 o'clock by Dr. Todd assisted by
Rev. I. T. Nash pastor of Troy M. E. church.
He leaves to mourn the loss of a loved one, his father, brothers, ROY, BURT, HILARY,
ADLAI, DONALD and two sisters, Miss MAUDE and Mrs. P. A. KHUNE and a great number of other
relatives and friends. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Troy cemetery after a
prayer at the grave by Dr. Todd and a song by the choir.
