IN MEMORIAM

Mrs. Celia Ann, wife of Jordan R.WITT, departed this life at her residence in Troy, about one o'clock P.M., Wednesday March 2, 1892. The deceased was born near Nashville, Tenn., April 1, 1830. With her parents she emigrated to Lincoln county in the year 1843. Scarcely had seventeen summers scattered their garlands of flowers along her youthful pathway, until she had plighted her faith, hope and love, to Jordon R.WITT, with whom she was united in marriage, August 19, 1847.

During the autumn of 1853, she confessed her faith in Christ, was baptized by Eld. Thos. Armstrong and united with the Christian church near Hawk Point. During all her married life she was heroicly in earnest, often undergoing great privations and hardships in raising her large family and trying to mould and develop her sons into men of honor, industry and religious learning. Nine sons and one daughter were born to them. The daughter died in infancy. Eight sons survive her, to mourn the loss of a tender, loving mother and mingle their tears of sorrow with their lonely and desolate father. Six of her sons are members of the Christian church, only two of whom could be present at the funeral service.

Sister WITT was a noble woman, whose life was busy toiling for the welfare and happiness of others, as well as her own large family. Her chairs at home and in the church of the living God are vacant now, and how sadly we shall miss her familiar face and voicing of her friendly soul. May the loving Father who comforted her in all of her eventual pilgrimage also comfort her sad and disconsolate husband and weeping sons; and may they cherish Him whose image she so devoutly worshipped during almost two score years . Peace, eternal to her mouldering ashes! After a brief funeral service at the family residence at 8 A.M., the 3rd, conducted by D.M.Grandfield, the body was buried in the famly burying ground near Hawk Point.

Located west of Troy, Mo. highway (47) west to Hurley Creech Farm at Hawk Point, Mo. Dirt road on farm to the cemetery. (evidently a family by the name of Nichols owned ths property after Witts). Names other than Witt buried in the cemetery are; Claggett, Hunter, Nichols, Owen, Sen, Upson and Wilson. 3 Witts buried here so will list all of them. Not sure who Bettie would be .j.g.
