Obituary for Lucy May (Parsons) Wilson (1887-1919)
Uncited clippings from the "Mattie Davis Martin Collection" of Doris Martin Jablonski, 1998.

Mrs. Willie Wilson - Lucy May PARSONS, daughter of Benjamin and Susie PARSONS, was born Feb. 12, 1887, and departed this life Jan. 12, 1919, at the age of 21 years, 11 months. She was married to Willie WILSON Nov 28, 1917. A little daughter, Beulah Francis, came to gladden their hearts just eight weeks before the mother was taken away.  Mrs. WILSON was smitten with influenza which developed pneumonia. Her illness was of short duration but her sufferings were intense and all that loving hearts and willing hands could do could not stay the approach of the grim reaper. Human life at its best length is represented by the Psalmist as a morning and an evening, but when one’s life is terminated in its morning the pity of it seems the greater to us. But to Him who knows all and does right there is nothing but wisdom and ultimate glory in that which is so sad to us. She united with New Salem church in July 1917 and has been since a consistent and faithful member. It is such a consolation to feel that, although what gave promise of a happy and useful career here cannot be realized, that she was prepared to enter upon a more glorious life the world eternal.

Funeral services were conducted at New Salem Tuesday Jan 14, at 1:00 PM. Rarely have we seem so many in attendance there or witnessed such universal sorrow as was expressed by the audience. Six young men bore the casket proceeded by six young women who carried a beautiful floral offering. She leaves a husband, little babe, father, mother, two brothers, Lester and Franklin, grandmother and a host of friends to mourn her absence. May the Good Shepherd of the Sheep watch over His flock until they all enter into the one field. - O. A. GORDON
