An Unfortunate Accident

A sad accident at Troy Tuesday morning resulted in the death of Miss Elsie WILLIAMS, 13 year old daughter of Dan WILLIAMS, of St. Louis, and almost cost the life of Mrs. Wallace WILSON. ELSIE had been here some time on a visit and was at the home of Mr. WILSON whose wife was her first cousin. They were ironing when Elsie complained of having a headache. Mrs. WILSON suggested taking a dose of asprin, saying she too, needed some. It was taken by both and Mrs. WILSON noticed an unusual bitter taste and spoke about it. In a short time both became sick and a neighbor was called and shortly thereafter, Drs. C. D. and Sam AVERY were telephoned for. When they arrived at the house, ELSIE had been having convulsions and was on the verge of another and Mrs WILSON was also in a serious condition.

Remedies were promptly given to both, but the young woman died in about 18 minutes after the doctors reached her, in spite of all they could do to relieve her. For several hours the life of Mrs. WILSON was despaired, but she was fnally relieved and is now out of danger. A part of the contents of the box of asprin was analyzed Wednesday morning by Dr. Sam AVERY and his analysis showed the presence of strychnine. How it accidently got into the box of asprin is a mystery and may always remain so. The medicine, so we are informed, had been ordered from a St. Louis drug store sometime ago and Dr. AVERY informed us that about 1/3 of the box had been used. Dr. E. A. HICKS, county coroner, assisted by Dr.W. P. SMITH held a postmortem and removed the young woman's stomach. It was taken to St. Louis, as well as a portion of the medicine, for analysis, but the result will not be known for several days. The coroner empaneled a jury Tuesday afternoon to hold an inquest, which will be concluded at a future date.

The funeral of Miss Elsie WILLIAMS was conducted at the Baptist Church Thursday afternoon by Rev. O. A.Gordon in the presence of a large audience of sorrowing relatives and friends. ELSIE was born the 26th of Janary, 1901, and was the only daughter of D. A. WILLIAMS. Her mother - former Miss Laura JENKINS - has been dead several years . The deceased left, besides her father, four brothers, Pearl, Allie, Shap and Guy to mourne her sad death. Following the funeral, her body was borne to the city cemetery and buried in the family lot.

The sincere sympathy of our community goes out to the sorrowing relatives in this sad hour. Among those who attended the funeral from St. Louis, were Dan WILLIAMS, father of the young lady, and Alli, Pearl and Guy WILLIAMS, brothers; Mrs. Margaret HALEY and daughter, Miss Grace, Mrs. Nat CLARK, Mrs. Dona REYNOLDS and Misses Estelle ANDERSON and Claude WILLIAMS.
