Laura Sopia WEITKAMP was born December 11, 1893, the daughter of John Henry and Kate SMITH WEITKAMP. She passed away in the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital, Troy, Saturday, December 24, 1983 at the age of 90 years and 13 days.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Oscar WEITKAMP and five sisters, Mary ECKSTEIN, Gus WEITKAMP, Carrie WITT, Amanda WEITKAMP and an infant girl. She is survived by two brothers, Fred WEITKAMP of Wentzville and John WEITKAMP and his wife, Ada, of Troy. His brother Oscars wife, Thelma of Hermann, fifteen nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Miss WEITKAMP was baptized in the Friedens United Church of Christ, Moscow Mills, Mo. as a baby and was later confirmed in that church. She maintained her membership in that church her entire lifetime.
After completing her education in the Lincoln County schools, Miss WEITKAMP moved to Clayton, where she became employed as a traveling companion. She continued in this line of work until her retirement. In her work she was priviedged to travel extensively and visited many interesting places.
Miss WEITKAMP became ill about a year ago, and during the past year was either a patient at the Troy Medicalodge or at the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital. During her illness, she had the care and attention of her family, all of whom will greatly miss her.
Funeral services for Miss WEITKAMP were held at 2 oclock Tuesday, December 17, 1983, from the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home in Troy. The Rev. Al Minor, pastor of the Friedens United Church of Christ, was the minister. Mrs. Briggs Cragen was the organist and Mrs. Lowell Lampley was soloist.
Interment was in the Friedens Cemetery, Moscow Mills. Casket bearers were Fred GERDIMAN, Ed STRASSEMEIER, Woody HARDESTY, Leland WITT, Kenneth ECKSTEIN, Jr. and Leonard OHANLON.
