WARD
- At his home of this city, Feb. 3, 1894, after an illness of fifteen days of pneumonia Chrisman H.WARD, aged 41 years, 5 months and 28 days. Mr. WARD was born in Troy, Mo., August 5, 1852 and lived here all his life, except about a year and a half when his father's family resided in Chillicothe, Mo. At the age of sixteen he entered the Lincoln County Herald office, then owned by Theo. D. FISHER, to learn the printer's trade. He was from that time, connected with that office almost continuously until he purchased an interest in the TROY FREE PRESS, which he disposed of it in the fall 1882.
He afterwards connected himself again with the HERALD, remaining with it until a few months prior to it's suspension in December 1890. In March, 1891, he purchased the material of that office and began the publication of the LINCOLN COUNTY TIMES, which he continued until stricken with the illness which resulted in his death.
On the 28th day of November, 1876, he was united in marriage to Miss Hattie F. NICHOLS of Troy, who, with five daughters survive him. Besides these, he left his father, one brother and one sister, Mrs. R. H. NORTON and many other relatives in this city and county. Mr. WARD was a thorough printer and a writer of more than ordinary ability.-------
Funeral services were held at the Christian Church of which he was a member, Monday afternoon by Elder Wm. Frazier, assisted by Revs. J. S. Allen and C. W. Latham; after which the mortal remains were borne to the city cemetery and laid to rest------------- attached..Pall bearers were E. B. WOOLFOLK, R. L. SUTTON, L. H. MORH, W. R. YOUNG, W. K. WITHROW and F. W. SIMONDS. ----- Mrs. A. C. WOOLFOLK played the organ and the choir opened up the services the hymns "Rock of Ages" and "Nearer My God To Thee". Mr. Frazier then read the scripture lesson, which was followed by a most eloquent prayer by Mr. Allen. Mr. Frazier delivered a tribute to the Christian character of the deceased and testified to his many qualities of mind and heart. Mr. Latham offered another touching and impressive prayer, after which a last view of the corpse was afforded the many friends who came to pay him respect.
The crowd that gathered to pay the last sad tribute to the memory of the dead was in consonance with the popularity of Mr. Ward. The remains were reposed in a handsome black casket filled with the sweetest roses and were followed to the Troy cemetery by a long procession of sad friends. As the final prayer and benediction by Mr. Morton was wafted heavenward, I could paint in imagination the ministering angels around the throne of God, as they knelt in solemn heavenly reverance and paid homage to his labors and virtues as his soul passed the portals of eternity.
