OBITUARY
Louis Henry WALTON was born in Lincoln County, Missouri, Feb. 6, 1887, the son of Charles and Mary CREECH WALTON. He passed away in Lincoln County Memorial Hospital, Troy, Mo., early Sunday morning, June 29, 1975 at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 23 days.
September 12, 1907, he was united in marriage to the former Miss Georgia Ann HAMILTON. They became the parents of four children, three daughters and one son.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, two brothers, Richard and Ira WALTON, and one sister, Mrs. Ruth BLAIR. He is survived by his devoted wife, Georgia Ann, of their residence, three daughters: Leora and her husband, Leslie DAVIS, of St. Louis; Mary and her husband, John ADAMS, of East Moline, IL., and Bettie, and her husband, Jack MARTIN, of Jennings, Mo., his son, Louis H. WALTON Jr., and his wife, Mable of Troy; 12 grandchildren, 19 great- grandchildren, and one great-great- grandson; his sister, Rhoda , and her husband, Frank BERRY, of Troy, Cora and her husband, Coolie NOAH, of St. Charles, and Viola FAIRCHILD, of Eureka, Mo.,and one brother, Roy WALTON and his wife, Ada, of St. Louis County, Mo., his wife's sister, Mrs. Viola SORRELL, of Frankfort, Mo., several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and many, many friends.
Mr. WALTON lived a very full and useful life. He was a machinest of rare ability. He was Troy's first automobile mechanic and was considered one of the finest mechanics that ever worked in Troy. He was a steam engine enthusiast from the time he was a small boy and started working with them when he was 15 years old. In later years he enjoyed attending the Old Thashers' picnics and steam engine exhibits. Often his advice was sought at these affairs, as he had a vast knowledge of steam engines. Just a few years ago he drove a steam engine in an exhibit.
The first airplane to fly in Troy was brought in by box car. It was to fly at the Old Lincoln County Fair. Mr. WALTON was selected to help the pilot assemble the plane. The story is told that Mr. WALTON warned the pilot that certain adjustments should be made or there would be engine trouble. The pilot ignored Mr. WALTON's warnings, and soon after the first take-off , the plane came down. The pilot got out of the wreckage and just started walking south without even looking back.
When Mr. WALTON first came to Troy, he opened a clock and watch repair business in the Hechler Hardware Store. When the first car came to Troy, owned by Mr. TUPHOME, Mr. WALTON was the mechanic for the car. He later worked for the Foster Bus Lines. After the bus company was sold, he devoted full time to his machine shop where he worked on small engines and designed and made machine parts on order. About four years ago, Mr. WALTON sold his machine shop to his son.
Mr. WALTON was priviledged to live during the years that America made its most progressive changes. With talent that could be considered those of a genius, Mr. WALTON moved along with changes and made many contributions.
Funeral services for Mr. WALTON were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday, July 1, 1975 from the Kemper Marsh Funeral Home by the Rev. J. Bickle, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Troy. Mrs. David Rayfield was the organist.
Interment was in the Thornhill Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Danny Walton, Kenneth Adams, R.E.Elliett, Paul Nuekirk, John Aubuchon and Cameron Blair.
