Died , in Lincoln county, Mo., on the 6^th of April, 1871, Miss Julia B. Wallace, in the 24^th year of her age.

Miss Wallace was of Shelby county, Ky., where she was raised and educated, and from whence she went in December last, to spend the winter with a married sister in Missouri. After sojourning there for some time she was taken sick, and notwithstanding her friends were encouraged by her physicians with accounts that proved delusive, she continued to languish until she had no more power to combat with her malady, and she succumbed to her fate. She had been well trained and educated by pious parents, and some years before her death she made a profession of religion under the ministry of her late beloved pastor, Rev. N. M. Gordon, who preceded her to the celestial world only about two weeks. From the onset of her sickness she seemed to anticipate death, and often spoke of it as the probable issue, and expressed entire resignation to the will of her heavenly Father. The first notice of her death which her friends at home received was the arrival of her remains in charge of her brother-in-law. The widowed mother, in company with her son, had started to see her, but on arriving at St. Louis ascertained that her remains had passed through on their way to Kentucky but a few hours before her arrival. Turning about immediately she hoped to arrive at her home in time to be present at the funeral services. But before she arrived the funeral was over, and the grave had closed forever upon the beloved form of her lovely and accomplished daughter. It is but seldom, even in this sad world, that such a scene of sorrow and heartrending anguish is witnessed, as was witnessed at the funeral of Julia Wallace. Never did the preacher feel more powerless to give comfort than when he stood and spoke from the words, "I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as those which have no hope."

How blessed the expectation that there is a day coming when all these dark cloudy dispensations shall be cleared up to the entire satisfaction of God's people. Our Proper attitude is that of looking--"Looking for that blessed hope, the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Contributor's note:  Julia Bracken Wallace was born in Shelby County, Kentucky, on November 20, 1846 to Arnon Wallace and Martha Agnes Roberts. Her visit to Lincoln County described in this obituary was to her sister Sarah E. Wallace Reid, the first wife of Thomas Robinson Reid. Soon after the May 4, 1889 death of Sarah, Thomas married Marietta Wallace, the youngest sister of Sarah and Julia Wallace.
