Mr. Richard Douglas TWELLMAN passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001 at 7:42 p.m. at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy. He had attained the age of 69 years, 10 months and 26 days old.
"Dick", as he was affectionately known, was born on Sept. 26, 1931 in Moscow Mills to Edward and Mary (SCHIEFFER) TWELLMAN. He was the second oldest of five children. The TWELLMAN family lived and worked in Moscow Mills, and this is where Dick attended the local schools. He graduated from Buchanan High School in Troy. Following his graduation, Dick served as City Marshal of Moscow Mills for almost three years.
Dick met his beloved wife Emma (Jean) EDWARDS in Moscow Mills, and they were married on Aug. 19, 1950 in Troy. To this union were born six children: Fred, Jeff, Steve, Connie, Terry and Gail.
To support his family, he worked as a tenant farmer when he was first married and also worked for the railroad for a couple of years before going to work at McDonnell-Douglas Corp. as a tool and die maker. He made the trip each day to St. Louis back and forth for 31 years, usually with passengers in his nine-passenger station wagon.
In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family hunting, fishing, gardening and going to "the land" in Bowling Green. Dick was noted for his beautiful garden and enjoyed sharing it with family and friends. Not only did they share vegetables with friends, they also shared their home and hearts with foster children in the 1980s. He loved his mules and hunting dogs and liked riding the mules. Dick liked working with his hands, and you could find him working on bikes, lawn mowers and motors of any kind.
Church was very important to Dick and his family. He had been a member of the First Christian Church in Moscow Mills for more than 50 years and had served as a deacon. Dick was also an amateur boxer and had played hard-road league baseball for many years.
Spending time with his grandchildren and making funny faces for them was a pleasure for him. They fondly called him "Pa Pa." You could always find him telling stories and jokes. He never knew a stranger and could find good in anyone. Many lives were changed for the better by him.
Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Emma (Jean) TWELLMAN of Moscow Mills; two sons: Jeff TWELLMAN and his wife, Janice, of Troy and Steve TWELLMAN of Moscow Mills; three daughters: Connie WALTON-CARSON of Old Monroe, Terry DILLON and husband, Kenny, of Moscow Mills and Gail GIBISON and husband, Rodney, of Troy; two brothers: Herman TWELLMAN and wife, Sue, of Lawton, Okla. and Harold (Shorty) TWELLMAN and wife, Veronica, of Hawk Point; two sisters: Marilyn MENNE and husband, Bernard, of Troy and Marie FINGER and husband, Jim, of Troy; 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Fred TWELLMAN in May 1999 and one granddaughter, Melissa DILLON-GNADE on Sept. 8, 1988.
Richard "Dick" TWELLMAN will be sadly missed and long remembered by those who knew and loved him.
Visitation was Friday, Aug. 24 from 3 to 9 p.m. and also Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the McCoy & Blossom Funeral Home, Troy.

Delor Beaulieu and his wife, Sonja, as they sang, "Amazing Grace," "I Wont Have to Cross Jordan Alone" and "The Longer I Serve Him, The Sweeter He Grows."
