Obituary for Mary Cottle Turnbull (1899-1987)

Mrs. Mary COTTLE TURNBULL, Lincoln County educator, passed away in the Lincoln County Memorial Hospital, Troy, early Saturday morning, June 6, 1987 at the age of 88 years.
Funeral services for Mrs. TURNBULL were held at 2 oclock Monday afternoon, June 8, 1987 from the Troy Chapel, Kemper Marsh Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Bill Combs, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Troy, and the Rev. Richard TURNBULL, Mrs. TURNBULLS nephew. Mike Woods was the vocalist and Mrs. Arthur Schemmer was the organist.
Interment was in the Troy City Cemetery. Casket bearers were Martin SENTMAN, Pete WALLACE, Marvin HENRY, Dulin HARRELL, Darrell HARVEY and Melvin BRAUNGARDT. Dodson BLACKMORE was the honorary casket bearer.
A memorial service for Mrs. TURNBULL was held at 7:30 Sunday evening at the funeral home by members of the Troy Chapter, 405, Order of Eastern Star.
Mary COTTLE TURNBULL was born in the Moscow Mills area of Lincoln County, Mo., April 13, 1899, the daughter of William Martial and Sarah Elizabeth BROWN COTTLE. On July 14, 1957, she was united in marriage to Omer H. TURNBULL. Mr. TURNBULL passed away in 1975.
She is survived by one step-son, Harold TURNBULL of Troy, two nephews, Monte COTTLE of Troy and Eddie COTTLE of Wentzville, one niece, Mrs. Margaret Ann LITTRELL of San Dimas, California, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Lucy COTTLE of Troy, and one brother-in-law, Archie TURNBULL of Winfield, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mrs. TURNBULL was a member of the First Baptist Church of Troy where she had served as Church Clerk for many years, and was also a member of the music department. She was a member of the Troy Chapter, No.405, Order of the Eastern Star and had received her 50 year pin from that organization. She was on the board of the Lincoln County Manor, and served on other boards of the area. She was a member of the Builders Federated Club, the Lincoln County Historical and Archeological Society, and a member of the Lincoln County Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. TURNBULL spent her entire working career in education. The last 22 ½ years were spent in the Troy Elementary School.
Memorials are being made to the First Baptist Church of Troy and to Hannibal (torn) College.
