Obituary for Arthur Thompson (1890-1904)
Uncited clipping.
From the papers of Mary Omahundro Hutt Walker
Again the grim reaper called "death" has claimed for it's own our darling
Arthur, (hand written- THOMPSON) beloved son of Mr. & Mrs. R. ? LOGAN; born May 30th,
1890 and died June 15, 1904. Medicines, physicians and a loving mother's ministrations
couldn't stay the had of death; Jesus saw fit to call him home. God knows best; he has
taken the tender bud and transplanted it in the garden of Paradise where it will unfold
its tender petals in the sunlight of His glory forever---------- Loving hands tenderly
laid him to rest in the THOMPSON family graveyard.

Arthur, only child of Gentry THOMPSON and wife was born May 29, 1890 at the home of his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs Mort THOMPSON, Bryant's Creek Lincoln County, Mo. When Arthur was only 10 months old his father died, and he was tenderly cared for by his mother and grandparents. The result of the habit of loving and being loved was shown to his gentle disposition.-----Although only 14 years of age when he died he had been a member of the Presbyterian Church for several years.
Whenever he would do wrong as all children do, tears of remorse would spring up to his eyes and he would quickly ask for forgiveness. One time when his grandmother, after the manner of Timothy's grandmother, was giving him counsel he replied, "Grandma, I never go to bed without saying my prayers."........The devotion between his youngest uncle, David THOMPSON and himself was more like the devotion between brothers than that of Uncle and nephew. For his step-father, Mr. R. I. LOGAN, he had the greatest admiration and always expressed much appreciation for his fatherly care and generousity.
......About 3 weeks ago, after a prolonged visit to his grandparents, he returned to
the home of his parents at Okete, Mo. and was taken sick with a complication of pneumonia
and measles. During his intense suffering his mother said, "I would gladly bear all
of this for you." With a sweet smile he looked into her eyes and replied "Momma,
I am trusting it all to the Lord." Often during his sickness he would ask for his
playmates Dawson and Chas. LAHR, and it was exceedingly sorrowful that they learned of his
death the morning of June 15, 1904. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. PRESLEY and
Arthur was laid to rest by the side of his father in the family's burying grounds on the
top of a hill near the rippling waters of Bryant's Creek. The many beautiful flowers which
covered his grave were tributes of love from his boy comrades. A large concourse of
friends who followed him to his last resting place. We loved him and we shall miss him.
