Obituary for Jacob Taylor (1864-?)

Elsberry relatives were advised by telegram Tues. a.m. of the death of Jacob TAYLOR, a
native of the vicinity, who left19 years ago for the state of Oregon, where he had since
lived. He died in Portland, Oregon in a hospital, where he had been taken for an
operation for ulcers of the stomach.
His home was in Newberg & he was taken there for burial. He is survived by a
son, Leslie TAYLOR of Troy, & a dau. Grace,who is md. & resides in Portland,
Oregon. Jacob TAYLOR was a son of James & Elizabeth REID TAYLOR and was born in
Jan.1864. He was md. (1) Miss Jennie MILLER,who lived a few years after their
marriage. She was the m/o Leslie TAYLOR. His 2nd wife was Miss Lens MCKAY, who
died several years ago in Or. & buried there. The dau., Grace ,was her
child.
Mr. TAYLOR was born on the old TAYLOR homestead in the Okete vicinity & was one of a
large family of children, 7 of whom survive him, as follows: Mrs. Sallie FINLEY and
Arch TAYLOR of this city [Elsberry j.g.], Mrs. Nettie FISHER & Cyrus TAYLOR
of Troy & vicinity and Alex TAYLOR, of the state of Cal. [that's only 5 j.g.]
He united with the Soule's Chapel many years ago & upon his removal to
the west transferred his membership to M.E.Church in Newberg. He visited his
old home & Lin. Co a year or so ago. It is understood he died under the
operation for which he had been taken to the hospital.
Burial took place Weds. [no date June--from Mary HUTT WALKER'S papers]
