Obituary for Mrs. Frances R. Smith (1805-1906)
Uncited newspaper.
From the collection of June Groshong.
Mrs. Frances R. SMITH was born in Albermarie County Virginia, about 1806. Her maiden name was Frances SIMMONS. When she was a young girl, she came to Missouri with her father, brother and sisters, her mother having died in Virginia. She had four sisters and one brother. They have long since passed away.
Mrs. SMITH had been married three times, her first husband was John B. MORRIS and her second was Richard. The first two husbands died at the place known as the Elias Hinds farm. The third husband died at Baxter Springs, Kansas, at the age of 91. After the death of her last husband she moved to Slater, Missouri, where she lived for five years, then to the home of her nephew, J. R. HALL, five miles northeast of Troy.
When Mr. HALL came to Troy to live she came with him and lived with them up to the time of her death. At the time of her death she was one hundred and one years old. She had a clear mind and reasonably good health and seldom ever missed a meal until about four weeks before she died. She bore her losses and afflictions heroically. She was not a woman to complain and lose courage.
No children were born to any of her marriages. This being true, how fortunate for her that she could come into such a home as the one in which she died.
For eight years her nephew and his good, faithful wife left nothing undone that could add to her comfort. How close to home Mrs. HALL had to keep through all these days and years. If the good woman had been her mother better attention and more tender care could not have been taken than that offered by Mrs. HALL.
Mrs. SMITH was a Christian woman having been a consistent member of the Baptist church for many years. Peace to her ashes.
