Obituary of Ethyl Riffle
Ethyl Davis (Dameron) Riffle was born on April 29, 1897, near Elsberry, Missouri. She was one of ten children born to James Dawson and Ida Ellen (Davis) Dameron. She passed away Thursday evening, August 11, 1988, at Lincoln County Memorial Hospital in Troy, Missouri. She had reached the age of 91 years, 3 months and 12 days.
Ethyl was united in marriage on June 28, 1917, in Elsberry, Missouri, to Allie Thurmon Riffle. This union was blessed with seven children: Rodney T., Delmar "Irvin", Homer A., John R., Fae Anna, Patricia Jane, and Stephen L. After 48 years of marriage, Ethyl lost her loving husband, Allie, who died on April 23, 1966. Since 1972, she made her home with daughter, Fae. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, and was a lifelong resident of the Elsberry area. Ethyl has been a loving sister, always ready with a helping hand. She has loving concern for all her nieces and nephews, but for 70 years her major concern in life was her family. She was a MOTHER in the greatest sense of the word. Each of her children and their families had her daily prayers. She worried with them and for them, and helped in any way possible.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one child who died in infancy; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters: Bertha Rogers, Myrtle Graves, and Irene Rose; four brothers: Owen, Otis, Paul, and Wesley Dameron; and her husband, Allie Riffle.
Ethyl is survived by their children: Rodney Riffle and his wife, Virginia, of Elsberry, Irvin Riffle and his wife, Bernita, of Elsberry, Homer Riffle and his wife, Gertrude of Bowling Green, John Riffle and his wife, Eunice, of Cottleville, Missouri, Fae Anna Cox and her husband, Woodrow, of Elsberry, Patricia Jane Stewart and her husband, Eugene of Elsberry, and Stephen Riffle and his wife. Brenda, of Foley; thirty-three grandchildren, sixty great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves two sisters: Pauline Barnes of Elsberry and Dorothy Triplett and her husband Orval, of Elsberry; nieces, nephews, and several other relatives.
Ethyls sons would like to commend their sisters for taking such good care of their mother. They did a wonderful job right up to the end. Ethyl will be greatly missed by her family and a host of friends.
