Velma Grace Quade, 92, of Silex, died Saturday, July l, 2006, at

Silex Community Care Center

 

Funeral services were held at l0 am Monday July 3, 2006 at the

Silex Presbyterian Church.  Rev. George Major officiated.  Burial

was in the Auburn Cemetery near Silex.

 

 

Visitation for Mrs. Quade was held from 6 to 8 pm Sunday

July 2, 2006 at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Silex.

 

She was born July 16, 1913, in Eureka, the daughter

 of Willie Franklin and Sophie Ida Leder Adams.   She was

married Oct l 1932, in Clayton to Herman F. Quade.  He

preceded her in death in August, 1978.

 

Surviving are one son Lloy William Quade and wife, Jane

of Silex; one daughter, Selma Mae Williams and husband

Jim, of Silex; four grandchildren Hannah L. Purcell and

husband, Jeff of Silex; Emma G. Henry and husband Michael

of Silex; Cynthia A. Williams, of O’Fallon and John F.

Williams of O’Fallon; four great grandchildren Bryce

Hoffmann, Brooke Hoffmann, Jake Henry and Kyle Purcell

all of Silex.

 

Preceding her in death were granddaughter Sarah J. Quade;

brother Alvin Adams and sister Viola Wilder.

 

She moved from St Louis to Whiteside in 1943.   Then in 1945

she moved to the Silex area.  She was a graduate of Sanford

Brown Business College in St. Louis.  She was a 4-H Leader,

50+ year member of Order of Eastern Star – Silex Chapter #80

where she had served as Worthy Matron and she also had

served as the District Deputy Grand Matron of the 29th District. 

She was a 50+ year member of the Homemaker Extension Club

in Silex and was a past board member for TACOA.   In 1956

she served on a committee that helped establish the first Lincoln

County hospital.  She was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary

holding many offices including president.  She was a member

of the Silex Presbyterian Church.

 

Memorials may be made to the Silex Presbyterian Church or

to the donor’s choice.
