BILLY GENE PORTWOOD

WINFIELD - Billy Gene PORTWOOD, 72, of Foley, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at the Troy home of his daughter, Pamela CHARLTON.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Carter Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield. A graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. PORTWOOD was born Nov. 12, 1931, in Winfield to John Rodger and Veva Melinda LARUE PORTWOOD.

He married Mabel Lois McCLAY on April 29, 1954, in Winfield. She died Feb. 17, 2002.

Survivors include three daughters, Anita L. KITSON and Pamela S. CHARLTON, both of Troy, and Sherrill TILLMAN of Chesapeake, Va.; five grandchildren; five brothers, Lawrence, Carl, Harry, Larry and Dennis PORTWOOD; and three sisters, his twin Betty June TENNISON, and Norma FLEMING and Margaret KIELTY.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Garvin and George PORTWOOD.

Mr. PORTWOOD was a 20-year U.S. military veteran.
