Obituary for John Ernest "Mike" Meyer (1931-1991)

Funeral services were held for John Ernest "Mike" MEYER, July 15, 1991, from the Troy Chapel of Kemper-Marsh Funeral Home in Troy, MO. Father Eugene BENDEL, assisted by Rev. William WINTER, officiated at the ceremony, with special guitar music and songs by Avery CAHILL. A favorite patriotic song, "Play the Star Spangled Banner Over Me", sung by Box Car Willie, was played at the cemetery. Interment was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Troy.

Mr. MEYER died July 12, 1991, at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, Wentzville.

Born Nov. 16, 1931, he was the son of the late Henry Leonard and Lora Emelia BECK MEYER. He was united in marriage, June 11, 1955, to Margaret HUNN at Hawk Point. He served his country in the Korean War and was discharged June 10, 1954. For many years, he worked at the Moscow Elevator and then managed the Troy Elevator. In 1965, he began working for L.E. Myers and joined Capitol Electric in 1978, where he was employed until he became ill in August of 1989.

In 1972, he and his family moved to Union, Mo., where he was residing at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; four sons, John Leonard and his wife, Kateri; Roger LeRoy; Robert Vernette and Thomas Dean; four daughters, Ramona Ann; Nancy Jean and her husband, Bruce WELLER; Joan Lois; Vera Ruth and her husband, Rocky CAHILL; four grandchildren, Shane and Anna MEYER, Samantha WELLER, and Jamie CAHILL.

He also leaves three sisters, Lorraine and her husband, Fredrick GERDIMAN; Leona and her husband, Rev. William WINTER and Dolores (TWELLMAN) WEITKAMP. He is also survived by his wife’s mother, Vera HUNN and numerous nieces and nephews to whom their "Uncle John" was very special.

His health began to fail two years ago and he was lovingly cared for by his family during that time. He cared about the squirrels and birds and fed and enjoyed watching them at the many feeders in his backyard.

Pallbearers were Stanley GERDIMAN, Douglas GERDIMAN, Christopher GERDIMAN, Ronald TWELLMAN, James TWELLMAN, and Leonard HUNN.

Memorials may be made to any organization of the donors choice.
