Luvina w/o David Allen died Nov. 19, 1901 aged 79 years and 16 days
There is a picture of Miss Susie, her grandmother Luvina Riffle, Allen and Aunt Dice Hilton who was a former slave and stayed with the Allens many times. In the Foley Centennial Book 1981. Aunt Dice was a slave of Wm. Overall, my gr-gr-grand father who brought her up here from Ky. She was to marry another former slave, Mr. Henry Hilton. They jumped over the broom stick and were to wait for the circuit riding preacher to make their marriage offical, but Henry decided to marry someone else when the circuit riding preacher came. She never did marry. (This was told to me by Mrs. Susie Meadows) Aunt Dice died of a fever after she had eaten fish and drank milk for supper. I remember as a small child being at my Grandfather Hilton's and we had fresh fish for supper that had been caught in the afternoon. We were told we could not drink milk with fish in the same meal , and then story unfolded about Aunt Dice's death. I helped with the history and gathered material for the 3 day Centennial at Foley 1981. My ties to Foley were through my dad, Steve Hilton's side of the house so I thought at the time. Later, I was to learn I am a Foley descendant . My g-gr-grand mother, Mary Elizabeth "Molly" Massie McKay was a niece of Addison Foley, for whom the town was named. j.g..
