Obituary for Lizzie McCulloch (d1900)
Uncited clippings from the "Mattie Davis Martin Collection" of Doris Martin
Jablonski, 1998.
Died - Miss Lizzie McCULLOCH, at her mothers home Oct. 22, at early dawn. She had been suffering for about a month with consumption. She was 22 years old the day she was buried, the 23 of October. She was a young lady who lived in this vicinity during her girlhood, when then moved to Prairie township, where she died. There were many friends and relatives assembled at the graveyard to pay the last sad respects to dear Lizzie. After bidding adieu to her folks she closed her eyes on this world to awaken in the brighter and happy land above. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved.
Contributor Notes: Elizabeth McCulloch's date of birth is known to be 23 October 1878. Thus, 22 years later, she died on 22 October 1900 and was buried one day later on her 22nd birthday.
On the reverse side of the side of this clipping is part of an article on the appointment of personal attendants being appointed to Queen Victoria, sovereign of England and queen of Scotland. It names John Brown as one of her favorites and the fact that he received $1500 a year for his services.
