Obituary for George W. McCoy (1853-1926)
Uncited clipping.
From the clippings of Ramona Meyer
The Chantilly
neighborhood was saddened last Friday by the passing of one of its oldest and
most highly respected citizen, in the person of George W. McCoy. He was
the son of John and Ellen McCoy, and was born in St. Charles county, Missouri,
May 31st , 1853, and died at his home Friday, June 18th, 1926, at the age of
73 years and 17 days.
On June 26,
1888 he was married to Mattie E. Pollard. One son, Sydney L. was the fruit
of this union. Mrs. McCoy died July 21, 1893. On December 31, 1895,
he married Katie E. Pollard, who survives him.
He was converted
and joined the New Galillee Christian church in 1913. He was, all the time,
one of its prompt, faithful and dependable members until he was called home.
In his social
relations he was one among the best and most useful citizens of the neighborhood. He
was very fond of his little grandson, Marvin. This little fellow was unconscious
of the fact that he was making a valuable contribution to the real pleasure of
his grandfather’s life. The neighbors all held Brother McCoy in
high regard and he will be very much missed from among them.
In his going,
he not only leaves his immediate family, but he also leaves to mourn his departure,
three sisters and three brothers and all the rest of us who knew him.
Brother McCoy
was a member of the lodge of Modern Woodmen of America and also of the Masonic
Lodge of Moscow Mills. This lodge conducted the burial service, which was
beautiful and impressive, at the grave in Highland Prairie Cemetery.
The funeral
services were conducted by the undersigned, at the Highland Prairie church near
Ethlyn. A large and sympathetic audience of relatives and friends attended.
Our sincere
sympathy is due and hereby tendered to the sorrowing ones. – M.D. Dudley,
His pastor.
