Obituary for Matilda Ann (Linn) McCain (1840-1922)
Uncited clippings from the "Mattie Davis Martin Collection" of Doris Martin Jablonski, 1998.

Matilda Ann McCAIN was born near Linn’s Mill, Lincoln county, February 4, 1840. For several years her son JOE, had been living on Mrs.McCANE’s home place near Linn’s Mill, and she had lived in his home, where she died March 3, 1922.

When Matilda Ann LINN was a little girl of three years, her parents moved to a farm, near Sand Run Church. There she grew to womanhood. She attended the country schools and later took two years work in Troy Academy.

In her twentieth year she married P. L. DAVIS. After eight years, Mr. DAVIS died leaving his widow and three children. Two of these children are with us yet -- Theo L. DAVIS of Troy and Mrs. Ida W. MORSEY, of California. In 1872 Mrs. DAVIS married Mr. S. A. McCAIN. There were five children born to this union. Five of them are with us, two daughters, Mrs. Frank B. CROUCH and MRS. Guy WOMBLES, of Troy and J. S. McCAIN, who lives in Fresno Cal. Mrs. McCAIN joined the Methodist church at Wright City in 1867. June 9, 1907, she transferred her membership to Slavens" Chapel, and in October of 1921, moved with the Slavens’ Chapel congregation to the Methodist church in Troy.

Her funeral service was held in this church March 7, 1922, and she was buried in the Troy cemetery. Truly sister McCAIN leaves a rich heritage to Troy and vicinity in the person of her seven children and eight grandchildren. We mourn with them in the loss of their mother and of our friend and neighbor. As her life bore much fruit, we expect much of them and trust that in a little measure our sympathy will help them in their loss. - F. P. HANE
